This is the first upgraded warrior pike quest. Drill Master Vygan may be found at -456, 26.

You say, 'Hail, Drill Master Vygan'

Drill Master Vygan says 'I am a Drill Master of the Legion of Cabilis. I have no time for idle chitchat. Be off if you were not summoned to this fortress! Find that guild which was chosen for you as an egg.'

    You say, 'What militia pike?'

Drill Master Vygan says 'The pike is the prime weapon of Cabilis warriors. It can be upgraded, too, such as from the partisan pike to the militia pike and beyond. All these pikes may be slung on one's back when your hands are needed for other pursuits. To upgrade a pike is something that is learned, but it can never be performed without a [geozite tool]. Do you [desire to upgrade the partisan pike]?'

You say, 'I desire to upgrade the partisan pike'

Drill Master Vygan says 'It seems as though a traitor is among our people. Someone has smuggled shackle keys to the slaves. The froglok slaves have been escaping into the swamplands and there we can hear the whistle of their contact who escorts them to freedom. We must put a stop to this! I desire three things. Your partisan pike, the head of the Iksar traitor and the whistle of the escort. Bring these to me and I shall give you the militia pike.'

Drill Master Vygan wants you to find the traitor who is helping the froglok slaves escape, along with his froglok accomplice. You'll need to head to the Swamp of No Hope first, and look for "a froglok escort" or "Froglok Escort" and kill it. They can be found near the newbie area, usually on the first island South of the city along the road.

a froglok escort says 'Grripp.. Must not interfere with my mission!! Ribbit.'
You have slain a froglok escort!
a froglok escort's corpse says 'Gcroooakk.. I have failed.. Unghhh.'
--You have looted a Bixie Berry Pie.--
--You have looted a Froglok Escort Fife.--

You now have the whistle that the Drill Master speaks of, and a new clue: a Bixie Berry Pie. If you go to the bakers near the bank in East Cabilis, you'll find a Klok that mentions pies. Talk to him about it.

Klok Unlar wipes flour from his hands and turns to greet you. 'Welcome! Please look over my many treats. Do not think of the coin you shall spend. Heavy coin buys the finest and sweetest of treats. Feel free to ask me about any of the rare pies you see as I can tell you exactly how I make them.'

You say, 'What bixie berry pie?'

Klok Unlar says 'Bixie berry pie?!! It is no treat and is poisonous to the Iksar. We use it to keep our froglok slaves nourished. My apprentice baker, Bugrin, bakes them and delivers them to the slaves. Only he has access to the bixie berry pie recipe. All the pies are eaten by the slaves. If you think you have one, you must be mistaken. Let me see it if you believe you have one.'

Klok Unlar breaks open the crust of the pie. 'Wait! What is this? A device of some kind? It looks kind of like some sort of lockpick. BUGRIN!! Get in here and answer some questions at once!!'

Just outside the Klok's shop Bugrin the Gatherer will spawn. You must get outside and kill him fast, as he will try to run away (very quickly).

Bugrin the Gatherer says 'You will never take me alive!!'
You have slain Bugrin the Gatherer!
Bugrin the Gatherer's corpse says 'hisss.. You will never stop the.. Radiant.. Green..'
--You have looted a An Iksar Head.--

Now that you've looted his head, you have what the Drill Master wants. Take the "An Iksar Head", "Froglok Escort Fife", and your Partisan Pike to Drill Master Vygan and turn them in.

Drill Master Vygan says 'You shall wield no militia pike until I have the head of the traitor, the fife of the escort and the partisan pike.'
Drill Master Vygan says 'You shall wield no militia pike until I have the head of the traitor, the fife of the escort and the partisan pike.'
Drill Master Vygan says 'You have perfomed just as expected. I bestow upon you the rank of militiaman. Here is your new pike. Past this, you shall require the [geozite tool] to upgrade your future pikes and mancatchers. We see much promise in you, militiaman. Go forth to serve the realm.'

I Multi Quested this today. After I got the fife and head. I made a new character, handed over the partisan pike, logged mine back in and gave him the head and fife. Bingo - Got the Militia pike.

Then Vygan gave me the dialogue for the geozite tool quest.

As of this post and relating to the currently Kunark Era Fippy Darkpaw and Vulak progression servers, an iksar warrior can skip straight the Warlord Mancatcher quest (https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=4876) without doing any of the prior steps.

My warrior at the time of doing it is 58 and allied faction with Legion of Calibis. Faction and level may matter, maybe not.

You also still need the Geozite Tool/do the quest to make the Mancatcher.

Listed what I did to complete the quest there.

Doh, sorry. I posted this on the wrong page. This was supposed to be posted on Drill Master Vygan's page lol. It is a seperate quest from the militia pikes.

    Here's the turn in dialogue:

Drill Master Vygan says 'I see they have begun to draft younger broodlings? Hmmph!! No matter. We Drill Masters shall make a warrior of you. Here is your partisan's pike and some coin as your wages. Be sure that you begin your training in blacksmithing and report to the other Drill Masters for any tasks they may have for you. Let them know you are [a partisan of Cabilis]. Perhaps soon you shall be rewarded the [militia pike].'

Ever wonder what Bugrin is talking about when he talks about the "Radiant Green"? Sounds like Greenmist, but what's that doing in the Iksar Warrior quests?

Something that y'all might want to look into.

    Can i forage the pie?
    # Aug 17 2006 at 10:42 PM Rating: Decent
its geting tough finding the bixie bery pie and i goted 3 that was foraged in mines of gloomdeep. But to prove Bugrin did it i have to kill the escort for the evidence perhaps... But its worth a try without geting the fife and using a fake bixe bery pie so i can get militia pike and upgrade up to footmans pike. Partisan's Pike, Militia Pike, Footman's Pike, Trooper's Pike, Soldier's Pike and the final Legionairre's Mancatcher.

    # Feb 17 2002 at 7:58 AM Rating: Default

This can be a pretty tough one until your like lvl 7, using the old pike that is, anything around 7/28 dmg/dly ratio and this is a frickin cinch, first off I just level up in swamp of no hope(the second island out) from 5 until I get the fife and pie, once I get those I'm usually around lvl 7 so it works out pretty well (I've done this quest 3 times) then once I get all that I keep the pie in my cursor to make sure I dont eat it hehehe, I'm paranoid as hell though and usually eat any food I have in my inventory to make sure I'm full and wont eat the pie, then I go to the merchant(I forget his name, hes near the bank in one of the three houses right next to eachother, hes a male Klok, just start hailing all of em till you get that "Dusts flour from his hands" or something like that, and give him the pie, IMMEDIATLY[and I mean fast] run outside, the traitor will be right there, if your too late he runs to the FoB zone and gets beat down by the Froglok slaves, and hes above average speed, so kill the slaves before hand if your paranoid like me)once you give the merchant the pie, you gotta kill the traitor, he is TOUGH if your a poor newbie, he regens very fast thats the only real problem. But once hes dead, voila, your done, go give the head the froggy fife and your old Pike to the drill master way up in the top of the Warrior guild and you gots your new pike!!

What level is Bugrin? I might want to make an Iks warrior, seeing as warriors are awesome, and Iks are awesome, I thought I might make one, but if I'm going to kill Bugrin, I have to know the level of him, otherwise I might die in battle, perhaps underwater (I had a halfling that was killed by a piranah or sumthing in town, and I nearly drowned getting my corpse back).

I'm Xasshaaz, btw, level 5 monk, king of ALL Iksar (yeah, right)

In this quest, you are not killing Klok Unlar, you are giving him a pie, and then Bugrin the gatherer will spawn right near him. YOU KILL BUGRIN, and get his head.

    # May 16 2001 at 5:36 PM Rating: Default
I killed my iksar monk in the swamp and couldn't find my corpse and so lost my shackle of dust. I talked to master Rask (the female iksar master, pretty sure of the name) and followed the talk unitl I told here I lost my shackle of dust. I had to do a mini quest involving the mortician and the toilmaster, she tells you what to do, not hard just long. I then got a putrid mortor and pestle, a bag, and a hammer of pennance (25lbs, 4 dmg, 60 dly, procs bone shatter) You smash things with it and it procs and summons a bone shard, grind 2 (maybe 4) bone shards, get powder, put in bag, fill bag with 8 powders and turn in for shackle of dust. AND what does this have to do with the pike you ask? The hammer is equipable by Sk's warriors, shman, and monks (no drop all iksar) So I believe if it can get a shackle back it can get the pike, the cudgel or that weird starting sk kiry thing back. Just a thought, ask your guild leaders and tell them you lost your partisans pike or something along those lines. Any, just a thought and good luck.
RE: How to get back your newbie gear.
    # Aug 04 2001 at 4:24 AM Rating: Default
Look, easy quest (just not fow lowbies). Person in guild will say "you do have your (insert newbie item name), right?". say you don't have it, give the book to the toilmaster, then do what the book says. If you can't read, say to the T. man "i need the hammer of exoneration" and "i need the bag". Hail the mortitian near the necro guild and say... I forget exactly, but the book tells you. Long story short, follow the book's instructions and make the stupid hammer proc 56 times (that's right, 56. fill up the mortar and pestle with 8 bone shards * 7 dusts you need = 56 freaking procs). Best if done above level 10, so the newbie stuff won't do so much damage (I did this with my monk, and 25 weight almost kills you). Blah blah blah... I'm tired and it's late, why can't I shut up? *yawn* I'm hungry... So... how's the family?

    I'll be quiet now.
RE: How to get back your newbie gear.
    # Jul 18 2001 at 2:04 AM Rating: Decent
Not to be an ***, but you have 7 bone dusts and blood water in the bag. for more detale look at

    http://eqdb.allakhazam.com/quest.html?quest=1259
That is the pentencee quest to get you Newbie item, and for warriors you have to serch around for someone you hail and say somthing like "....... bahhh bahhh .......... you do have your partisans pike, don't you?" and that is the person you turn the bag and the book into to get you items....... best to do when the newbie things con green, then you can just sit there and beat on them and they will not do too much dmg, good luck.

Where in the swamp are the froglok escorts
    RE: where?
    # Apr 11 2002 at 11:27 AM Rating: Decent
Enter zone from Cabilis and head down road to edge of swamp. Turn left and follow edge of swamp till you come to a road. The Escorts spawn along this road and in the hills above it. Safe-ish for level 6 or so. Seen them pop all over this area so kill what you can to increase spawn rate. Just have to watch for occasional higher level frog. They always seem to drop the two items you need.

I was doing the Curscale buckler quest and looking for giant leeches in the Swamp when out of nowhere comes the froglock escort. I remember seeing the name as part of a quest and being that he conned green, I went ahead and took him out and got the fife and the pie. At least that part of it's over. Trouble is, when I finished the quest and got all the components for the buckler, somewhere in the excitement I got my Iksar warriors head stuck up his tailpipe and for some reason handed in my pike along with the pack. After getting the buckler, I saw a message of "What is this?! Bribery of some sort?!...." along those lines. Therefore I knew I had ultimately screwed myself and I'm now going to have to go for the alternate way of this quest and make the newbie warrior and hand in his pike and hope they haven't fixed it, if it was actually broken at all. Wish me luck.

    # Apr 05 2001 at 9:40 AM Rating: Default
I completed this quest by giving everything to Drill master Vygan (or whatever his name is). He told me something to the effect of "I knew you could do it... now your a militaman, and here's your new pike... after this you'll need the geozite tool... blah blah blah" I KNOW that I did everything properly, yet I did not receive a new pike. Lost the old one just fine, but didn't get a new one. I didn't have any open inventory slots. Had slots in backpacks open, had my melee weapon slot open, had my back slot open, but still received no pike. I think it tried to "drop" the new pike due to no slots being open in the inventory itself, and when it did, it bugged out and just destroyed the weapon. Not sure about this, but can't figure out anything else. For this to be true, the weapon would have to be too large to fit into a rhinohide backpack. I petitioned about it, and of course was told by a guide that they couldn't do anything about it, and that I would have to talk to a real GM between 3 and 11pm pst. Are they not making enough money to have a "real GM" on each server 24 hours a day? Anyhow, just a word to the wise, when turning in quest items, make sure that you have an open inventory slot.

Just a note to add to my previous message "Quest bug"...

In the quest description a way to get a new militia pike is described. THIS DOES WORK! After losing the militia pike to a bug, I went and tried the trick outlined in the quest description. I created a new character, gave the note to Drill master Vygan, gave the pratisan pike to him, sat and camped. I then immediately logged my 7th lvl warrior back on, and immediately gave Vygan the other 2 quest items. I received a militia pike. Yay! =)

Anyhow, I imagine this will work with any of the "progressive" quests.

Also, I made sure to have an open inventory slot this time. I believe that was the problem the first time. Although I'm surprised that it didn't just attach the pike to the cursor.... who knows?
