Note: You can zone into Plane of Torment for experience only at level 55. This quest lets you get in for experience only before that.

You say, 'Hail, Iramai Sacredsoul'

Iramai Sacredsoul says 'Oh, hello. I am sorry, I did not see you approach. I have been giving all of my attention to poor [Phanti] here.'

You say, 'What is wrong with Phanti?

Iramai Sacredsoul says 'A few days ago Phanti started to get very ill, while she was preparing herself for another trip into [Saryrn's domain]. We are not sure exactly was caused her to fall into this malaise, although we do have our [suspicions].'

You say, 'what about Saryrn's domain?'

Iramai Sacredsoul says 'Torment, the Plane of Pain. She was doing some research on the denizens there, should you [help] us, I could grant you and your companions entry. The key will not do Phanti any good for quite some time.'

You say, 'i will help you' (or `what suspicions?')

Iramai Sacredsoul says 'Recently, the portal from the Plane of Disease has been unusually active. People have been reporting strange sounds from around the portal at night, and a few of our trackers have seen strange, almost rodent like, footprints. Our best guess is that one of the denizens of the Plane of Disease managed to make its way into our plane. If this is true, it may explain the unnaturally quick manifestation of the disease. Perhaps, the bile from one of the rodents will help us learn of the cause, and hopefully a cure.'

The Bubonian Bile you need drops off of a named rodent in the caves in Plane of Disease named Rythrak. He does not drop it every time. He is located in the spider/rat cave. Enter the cave, at the first big room hook a left, and he's the first rat spawn on the left as you exit the small tunnel.

It can also drop off Resnak. He has a PH of another a bubonian relak in the tunnel just south of the room Rythrak spawns.

Loot the bile and turn it into Iramai Sacredsoul in the Plane of Tranquility.

Iramai Sacredsoul pours the bile into a small flask, there is a puff of green smoke, which turns white as it floats into the sky. 'This is good news. It appears that this is the cause for her disease, but I have neither the tools, nor the knowledge to create a cure. There is rumor of an indigo orc who may prove useful to us in this area, but he is imprisoned in the Plane of Justice. Ask him about rare diseases. He was known to have cured many, prior to his imprisonment.'

You receive Purified Bubonian Bile from her.

The indigo orc she speaks of is named Brugga, and is indeed imprisoned in the Plane of Justice at /way -710,-110. You need amiable or higher faction standing with Creatures of Justice, and must speak to him with a high proficiency (possibly 100%) in Orcish.

You say, 'Hail, Brugga'

Brugga says, in Orcish, 'Ragh!' His eyes you with pure hatred. 'Indigo, my dark bowels. . . treachery it is, treachery against the clan. Gharol paid! Paid for it!' He shows you his hands and grins maliciously. 'Paid, he did!'

You say, 'What rare disease?'

Brugga snorts. 'You have someone that needs killing, or someone that needs saving? It not matter to Brugga, but you smell of a hero, so Brugga think there someone need saving. Well Brugga have time, so you give Brugga the disease and Brugga see.'

Give him the Purified Bubonian Bile.

Brugga dips his finger into the flask and tastes the liquid, 'Hmm, someone start work on this already and it still vile. This nothing that Brugga have trouble to cure, we just need stronger toxins to drive this one back. Brugga need a gnome made crawlerpoison, a venom sack from the Terror Matriarch, and the stinger from a Nettling Wraith, Brugga make you a cure.'

The "gnomemade crawlerpoison" is Mechanical Clockwork Venom, which drops from the mechanical spiders in the Plane of Innovation. The venom sack drops off of the Terror Matriarch at the spider camp (spawns in between the two consorts) in the Plane of Nightmare. She is a 3-day spawn, hits in the mid 600's, unslowable, spawns a baby spider about every 30 seconds, or at 66% and 33% life. The stinger from a Nettling Wraith is a fairly common drop in the Plane of Nightmare off of Nettling Wraiths. Give all three to Brugga.

Brugga says, in Orcish, 'Yes, Brugga work with this.' Brugga chants and makes strange gestures while mixing the objects in his mortar and pestle. 'Ok, Brugga finished now. You have your cure, give cure with the bile and that will heal. You go now, Brugga done talking.'

You receive a Vial of Opaque Fluid. Return to the Plane of Tranquility and give Iramai the two vials, bile and opaque fluid.

Iramai Sacredsoul says 'Hmm, it looks like I will need both the cure and the purified bile in order to heal Phanti.'

Symbol of Torment has been added to your key ring.

Your group has had keys added to their keyrings!

Iramai Sacredsoul says 'You've done it! Praise the Tranquil! I can already see Phanti's condition improving. Take these, Phanti is not going to be doing any planar exploration any time soon. She was planning on using them to bring her research party into Torment, make good use of them, and stay safe. Thank you again for your help.'

You gain party experience!!

Phanti Sacredsoul stops sweating and a little color returns to her cheeks as Iramai pours the liquid into her mouth.

You get an entry on your /keyring that says, "Phanti's medallion allows passage into Torment, the Plane of Pain."

Bruuga

Where is Bruuga located?

Actually he isn't a prisoner, he is a creature of.. Its a difrence of faction, you have to kill prisoners on the trial side of the zone to get your faction up. There may be a quest or two that will help you get faction but I haven't heard of it.

He is one of the Prisoners in PoJ, just look for the room with the two Orcs in it
Rat Bile

Does anyone know what the rat bile drops off of? Does it drop off the normal rats near the zone? or does it only drop off the minor rare rat mentioned in an earlier post (Reslak)?

I've been hunting rats in PoD by the ZI and by the castle for a few days now and no bile :-(.

Any help would be appreciated.

The named Rat Resnak can be found up almost all the time in the POD caves (at the cave opening, go in and in teh first room go left then you will be in a big area..resnak is farther down).

This quest results in a key to the Plane of Torment. I'll reveal the necessary bits and requirements, and maybe someone can supply the NPC text since I was too lazy to log it :P

First thing ... you must get your faction to indifferent to Brugga. I didn't know it at the time, but the other post seems to say that dubious is not enough ... guess he will talk at dubious, but not give you the bile back or tell you about what he needs for the cure. This can be raised by killing prisoners in the other wing, the prisoners on the way to the trials. Charming him may work, I didn't try it.

EDIT: Yine on Rodcet Nife with me, has verified that just being indifferent is not enough, it requires HIGH indifferent. I managed to get it at indifferent, at her indifferent, it ate her bile. So ... for safety's sake ... I would try at AMIABLE. This should be a definite.

EDIT: Charming seems to not work ... he seems to eat the bile. Not good. I'd assume the other items too. Guess you gotta slog out the faction like I did :(

You will also need to have the Orcish down pat, but just to find out which bits you need. It may be possible to hand him the bile with no orcish and get the right results, and henceforth give him the items he needs. (I had to learn orcish to learn what they were, of course)

OK ... you give him the bile, and he returns it unchanged, and tells you he needs 3 things to make the cure:

Mechanical Clockwork Venom (off defective clockworks in PoI)
Nettling Wraith Stinger (from Nettling Wraiths in PoN)
Terror Matriarch Venom Sac (from Terror Matriarch in PoN, she drops 4 at a time)

Give these to him, and you will get the cure. Give the cure and the bile to Iramai and she will give you the Symbol of Torment (looks like a skull trinket of some such). This is a key, not a flag, and if you click it with U (similar to the elevator rock to Paineel) on the spinning cube between the houses near the zone in, you will zone into the Plane of Torment, and have the symbol added to your keyring.

Thanks to Yine for helping me with some of the faction issues and testing charming.

Saminga Amaranth, 61st necromancer of Theft of Life, Rodcet Nife.

Charming him works, but you have to be the one to charm him to make him amiable. If someone else charms him, he is only indifferent to you. I used the 70 Evil Eye Psion shroud (Aberration rank 2 enchanter) to charm him and did the turn-ins successfully.

Ok, so i have the purified bile now. And i was looking for the orc in PoJ. I found two orcs that were blue, one looked like a crushbone orc, and didn't appear to understand me, the other looked like a snow orc and just wouldn't talk to me. Both were kos except when i was sneaking from behind. The crushbone one was named Brugga, and the snow guy was named Oracle something. Anyone know which orc is the correct one, and how you can get them to speak to you? Or will the hand-in work when sneaking?

2 factions
# Nov 04 2002 at 12:35 PM Rating: Decent
I have found 2 factions in justice one is with creatures and the other prisoners, although not all prisoners change faction. Killing the ghost spectra looking crits in lower levels will incress your faction with the prisoners but I would be leary of the guards wacking you then after that.

----[BEGIN EDIT]----

Something must have changed since the early days of PoP's release because nothing that I have killed in PoJ gives negative "guard" faction any more. The only faction hits you take now are "creatures of justice" and "prisoners of justice".

Faction is split geographically, so killing mobs from one side will grant faction in the other side.

-----[END EDIT]-----

I have found three factions in PoJ:

"Creatures" - anything non humanoid
"Prisoners" - humanoids
"Guard" - guards?

I have only found two mobs that give negative guard faction. By some strange twist of fate, killing sentries, galoers, or guardians doesn't give negative guard faction.

Conveniently, all the "creature" mobs are on one side of the zone (the side closest to the basement), while all the "prisoner" mobs are on the other side (closed to trials).

My dorf pally started indifferent to "prisoners" and KOS to the creatures. It is not hard to work on faction here - just stick to one side and slaughter everything.

Faction fixing spells/songs alone won't bring you from scowling to above kos. Illusion + faction song/spell might do it. Normally folks just charm.

I turned in the bile to this lady, it dropped from the minor named rat in the tunnel Reslak or something like that (not the big one that summons the nasty spiders...~shudder~) but she gave me back a vial of purified bile or something like that and told me to give it to an orc imprisoned in the plane of justice. Went and found him....eventually...and he scowled at me. Was able to charm him, but when i turned it in he just glared at me...by that time the guard had come by and started beating on me so we had to leave. No idea what happens if you turn it when you've worked on the faction a bit.

Faction not issue in this case. You cant turn in quest items to NPCs in most cases. Also have heard that most hostile prisoners in Justice will only attack if you talk to them so might be able to turn in purified bile as is. Otherwise need enchanter/bard faction raising spells or maybe sneak.

I've never had an NPC at dubious/threatening/scowls take an item successfully from me. Usually get the "I'll do nothing to aid the likes of you!" message and it eats the item. :(
