When you hail the Hermit next to the zone to the Lake of Ill Omen he says he is looking for a great sorcerer. If you say you are a great sorcerer he usually responds something like You have many more deeds to accomplish. However, if your faction, is high amiable he will hand you a flaxen hilt, which has 4 round slots on one end. He tells you to put within what once was there and return it.

    The Requirements

A Flaxen Lock of Hair: Identifies as "Lock of Flaxen Cord." Drops from Chief Rokgus in Droga as one of his more uncommon drops, about 1 in 15.

A Yellow Whip: Identifies as "A Whip of Flaxen Cord." Drops off a wandering named Drolvarg called A Wulfware Lonewolf (he wanders near the Firiona Vie zoneline from the Dreadlands).

Large Tassel Bookmark: Identifies as "Tassel of Flaxen Cord." Results from the Tome Raider Quest.

Combine all of these in the new Flaxen Hilt that the Iksar Hermit is now handing out and you will get the Barbed Scaled Whip. When you hand him the Whip and your Sorcerer's Cap from the previous part of this quest you get the following text:

An Iksar hermit says 'All is not complete. A cap and the rest, which was asked for, is required.'

An Iksar hermit takes the flail and vanishes with a brilliant flash!! Within your hands appears a skullcap. You hear a voice echo through the cave. 'Well done. You are a formidable necromancer. We thank you.'

    ...and you receive:

    Necromancer Skullcap:
    magic lore
    8 ac 3 dex 5 int 15 mana 8 sv magic
    heart flutter (instant) 3 charges
    useable from inventory

Need all dialogues, faction hits, /loc of quest mobs.

    The Gems
    # Nov 25 2001 at 4:36 PM Rating: Decent
I remember that one time someone posted all 4 gems you need to complete the quest. The one i remember the Most is "The Gem of Yet to come" droped of a sarnak in the fort in LOIO. Other gem names is a blur to me atm. But if A Emerald & A saphire that drop from fingered skele are part of this guess i have another thing to look for While getting my bone chip supplies up.

WTF do you do to get the skull cap thing?
    Dont give it back

Gave me the hilt at lvl 30, destroyed it somewhere within 10 lvls, got another one at lvl 40. Handed it back to him, and he told me it was a worthless trinkit to him, but assured me I would never hold it again. Tried to get another from him and started giving me the same message it had at 29. Not great enough just a lil info.

not sure if it will help but with so many peeps looking for different gems for this quest i have found 2 gems in kurns that are lore nodrop

one is A Sapphire. Identifies as The Pools of Sebilis

the other is A Emerald. Identifies as The Gardens of Sebilis.

not sure if they have anything to do with this quest but they both drop off the Thick Boned skelleton and the Fingered skelleton.

there is also a Thick Iskar Skull that drops off from thick bone skelleton that identifies with a message like.. "a Crimson Gem is stuck inside" havent figured out what its for yet.

hope this helps you guys and gals on your quests. =)

The gems from the thick boned skeletons are for the Iksar warrior soldier's pike quest. I won't bother with the details here since it's all documented elsewhere on the site. :)

Along time ago when i was a poor newbie, noone knew that there was a thing called the sporestrand sheild, then a halfling druid came up to me and gave me a sporestrand sheild for helping him find the qeynos bank. That made me about the 3rd person in the game to have a sprestrand sheild. Now everyone is running around with them.
I am pretty sure this is the same thing, as soon as someone figures it out EVERYONE will have them everywhere. Just my thoughts on this.

Oh, so now this is a trend thing, right? What the heck does it matter? So lots of people will have it once it is found out, so what. Sorda like once the Sleeper is killed, everyone and their mother will be trying to get his loot. Big deal.

On Druzzil Ro, I was idly playing my little Iksar monk in the middle of the AM hours. A high level necromancer (dark elf) came waltzing through Swamp of No Hope. He apologized for the intrusion in OOC (only 2 others were in zone besides me) and said he was just doing part of his epic. I said hello, and asked that he not spawn any horrible nasty things without warning. =) He was looking for the Hermit in a tower near the zone not too far from Cabilis. I, being helpful no matter what city I'm in, snagged a map on my second computer and helped him navagate there. He gave me a velium rose quartz ring (+5 int) and a platinum sapphire necklace (+7 int +7 str), and a star ruby to sell for cash. Needless to say, my untwinked monk was quite grateful for the toys. =)

Funny me, but I believe this guy may be part of the Necromancer Particle Weapon quest ;)

someone up at the top mentioned this:

"...Dag begin his Study of the forbidden circles, Wizardry, Enchantry and Magic. It was soon that he took a liking to the ways of Wizardry. His studies were kept to himself as he ignored the laws of Kotiz. He became the Blasphemere of the Brood. Most of his studies were held in private, only his Sarnak slave named Kly was allowed to assist in his blasphemous studies. His secret was soon to be revealed to all. "

could this mean that what you need to fill the hilt is dropped in Dalnir? that is where the kly spawns correct? i know that somewhere in dalnir these broken orb things drop or something...(it's been awhile since i've been there). it's just an idea, if anybody follows up on it, i'd like to know. =)
    So,

    # Aug 01 2001 at 3:05 PM Rating: Default
Everytime I leveled I went and told this guy that I was a great sorcerer and everytime he said no I wasn't. UNTIL I hit level 12 when he finally gave me some props and the flaxen hilt. My character is still a level 12 necro. I realize this doesn't help much in the way of solving the quest, but you newbies have something to strive for when you hit 12.

Um, ever stop to consider that this quest is only available to Necromancers and not to Monks who have their own quests to do?? Hmm??

it can't be your lvl then cause i have a 49 iksar monk and i still get that rejection msg so it must be faction based maybe

This is your "Sorcerer's" Skullcap... obviously, the faction hit AGAINST the Brood of Kotiz (for getting the flaxen hilt) shows that you're dealing with magic other than Necromancy.... Reading one of the books from the forbidden scribe gave me an idea:

"...Dag begin his Study of the forbidden circles, Wizardry, Enchantry and Magic. It was soon that he took a liking to the ways of Wizardry. His studies were kept to himself as he ignored the laws of Kotiz. He became the Blasphemere of the Brood. Most of his studies were held in private, only his Sarnak slave named Kly was allowed to assist in his blasphemous studies. His secret was soon to be revealed to all. "

We are looking too close to Necromancy and not enough into "Wizardry"... the power of the Elements...

There are 4 foraged globes in the Skyfire Mountains... Earth,Wind,Fire, and Water... perhaps...

I just went thru and got flaxen hilt as a 23 necro and took a faction hit. I was thinking is that some of the new stones that you can forage might fit in it, things like a plains pebble.

I think i know what u need for the quest.

I were today in Kurns Tower to camp Thick Bone Skeleton ... new things are now that there drop "a sapphire" and "a emerald" both magic and lore ... maybe that are 2 of the 4 items u need for the quest

    Couple thoughts....
    # Jun 17 2001 at 1:52 PM Rating: Default
I am currently in Lake of Ill Omen, and I this find this quest very intriguing. A couple thoughts:

First of all, perhaps the quest is primarily for non-Iskar and classes such as Wiz , Mage or Enchanter. Enchanters are the natural jewellers of the game, and maybe the hilt has to be combined in a Jeweller's kit with gems one at a time (unless hilt is classed as "container" when you right click on it). i am not sure what the gems could be, but found some sort of Lore item Gem off of an Ice Skeleton called Heart of Ice. Maybe there are more lore item type gems like this one found of the various creatures in Kunark.

Secondly, maybe it has something to do with the new Shaman Imbue spell. Shaman can now imbue different stones and items like ivory with magical energy much like the enchanter's can enchant metal.

I'll try to go see the sorcerer and hopefully my faction will be high enough to get the quest. I'll try the heart of Ice, and if the hilt isn't a container then I will try combining it in my Jeweller's Kit.
