You can only do this quest with a single group. Completing this quest (or any of the other trials) will give you access to the Plane of Storms and the Plane of Valor.

Talk to Mavuin in the basement cellblock.

You say, 'Hail, Mavuin'

Mavuin strains his eyes to look up at you in disbelief, then reaches down into a rusted vent and pulls out a journal. 'Please I implore you, take word to the Tribunal. I have done nothing wrong, yet I have been sentenced to eternity in this cell. I wish to present all of the [information] about my case to them. They must listen to my plea if they are truly the gods of justice.'

You say, 'What information?'

Mavuin tells you, 'I know it has been said for years before me, and will be said for years after me, but I was truly framed for my crime. You see the gods feared the knowledge that I carry with me. So to prevent me passing this knowledge to others, it was set up to show that I had plotted to murder one of the other elders. Please go before the tribunal and plead my case. If you do this I will share what I know with you, I apologize for holding it against you, but I am desperate to be released.'

You have received a character flag!

Head to the area with The Tribunal, and ask them about Mavuin. Following the dialog, saying "I am prepared" to each Tribunal will give you description of the six trials.

You say, 'Hail, The Tribunal'

The Tribunal fixes you with a dark, piercing gaze. 'What do you want, mortal?'

You say, 'I am prepared.'

The Tribunal nods slightly. 'Very well. When you are ready, you may begin the trial of execution. The victim will perish should the hooded executioner reach him. Its life will end only when all of the nemeses which accompany it also perish. We shall judge the mark of your success.'

When you are ready:

You say, 'I am ready to begin the trial of execution.'

The Tribunal says 'Then begin.'

Your group will be teleported to the event area where you will only get a few seconds before things start.

This trial goes in four waves. When you start the trial, an executioner will spawn at the far end of the room. Your job is to protect the prisoners from being executed. Four waves of Mobs will spawn. Kill them as fast as you can because the Executioner moves toward the prisoners as you attempt to kill the mobs and if you are not fast enough he will kill the prisoner and your trial will have failed. Each wave goes faster than the one before it, so try to conserve mana on the early ones so that you can do some serious nuking by the last one.

After you have killed off the fourth wave, you need to then kill the executioner. Killing him wins the trial and wins you the Mark of Execution.

Now go talk to the Tribunal.

You say, 'What evidence of Mavuin?'

You have received a character flag!

The Tribunal tells you, 'You have completed a trial - impressive for mortals. You can tell Mavuin that we will hear his plea. We will seek him out as time befits us.'

Head back down and hail him.

Mavuin tells you, 'So you have pleaded my case to the Tribunal, I am most thankful. I hope that they will listen to my case soon and release me. The knowledge that I promised you is this. The followers in the Plane of Tranquility are trying to find information on what has happened to Zebuxoruk. What I know is that he has been captured for a second time. If you want to find out more information I believe you should seek an audience with Karana and Mithaniel Marr. I can only assume that they were present at the time of his capture and know why this has taken place. Also seek from Marr a way to translate the divine language. Only with it can you understand the writing of the gods. There is no more that I can tell you, but thank you once again for your attempt in returning my freedom.'

You have received a character flag!

You are now flagged to be able to enter the Plane of Storms and Plane of Valor.

This trial is popular, and may have a wait time associated with it, as it is the easiest of the trials, and it can only be run once every 30 minutes per server on success. On failure, it can be re-run as soon as all the players from the failed trial clear out of the room.

I four-boxed this on Agnarr with level 65 sk dru enc and cle. It was close to trivial. Gear is partial planar/group. The sk dropped to about 70% at the worst and the other 3 toons were essentially never touched.

No, I'm not bragging at all here, so no reason for giving me flack, please. But I remember back "in the day" doing this over and over with a full group of level 60 toons, all played by individual players, because we just didn't have the dps to clear the four waves in time. It was so frustrating at the time. I think it required over 20 attempts before my friends and I won. I wonder if they nerfed this encounter over the years?

The "mission" requires 6 players to obtain but some can be out of zone and any level. Even camped out. I had two level 1's filling in the group, one of them my trader in the Bazaar and the other was off-line.

As a boxer it does help to have buttons designed to instantly assist the tank and nuke. The time is limited for each kill so can't dilly-dally. I also didn't find banishment worked on any of the rock guys. I didn't succeed in banishing any of them; in fact the attempt pissed them off big time so I gave up and just went back to good old fire and magic nukes.

Might try the other trials and post results here. Would be nice to visit Mr. Seventh Hammer.

Update:

Ran this again 3/29/22 with new toons who needed the flag. Even trivialer (if that's a word) with six 65's. This time I ran the expedition version so new repops. Makes it a little easier, or at least quicker, to go back to Mavuin. (It's NOT Mauvin, as appears in EQProgression's walkthru, unless he's fixed this since I printed out his incredibly useful PoP Progression Flagging Guide.)

Definitely want to visit Seventh Hammer now will post my experiences with the other trials. I think they're all easy to box except one. Check out EQProgression's excellent short videos about each trial on Youtube, very well done.

The reason why this sometimes appears to flag a character and sometimes not is that you MUST loot the 'Mark of ' ... or else when you go back and tell the Tribunal, they will not know you have succeeded in the trial.

My husband informed me he wanted the executioner's veil for his alt.
I am confident I can easily solo this.
I go through the dialogue as required.
Tribunal says "then begin" and nothing happens.
If I hail him again and tell him once more "I want to begin the trial of execution" he proceeds to inform that the trial has already begun.
Kinda bummed about being unable to revisit this.
Please let me know if it has been working for anyone else or if I have forgotten something important causing it to not work properly.

Just tried this today and it is still bugged. Event starts and the executioner just walks straight up and chops head off of the prisoner with no waiting at all. Had first mob to half health only and event was failed.

How is it five year old content doesnt work perfectly sony? I know it is a stupid quest and not even needed anymore but this is very discouraging and make me wonder if i want to waste my time on a game that has bugs on content that should be flawless by now. I can only imagine what current content is like.

Seems to be bugged lately?

[All goes fine (Mauvin, I am prepared, I am ready...and it starts the event) but it won't teleport solo to the event site, or if with another transports who says the phrase, but leaves the other standing there.]

(Or is it bugged the other way? In that you have to have a min of 3 in the group for everyone to get transported in, even tho, it is possible to get transported in solo with two in the group.)

1. There is enough time between waves to get through the 30 sec rest timer, and regain roughly 4k mana.
2. The max hit to someone with no shielding/mitiation from the waves will be roughly 250.
3. The max hit to someone with no shielding/mitiation from Prime Executioner Vathoch will be roughly 700.
4. Prime Executioner Vathoch casts Armor Break, which is an unresistable AE that drops AC by 270.
5. You lose if Prime Executioner Vathoch walks to the prisoner.
6. Prime Executioner Vathoch begins his walk from the start after each kill (so put all DPS on one at a time!).
Too easy

I'll answer my own question. No. The Executioner spawned right away with 4 DB mobs. He didn't wait, he didn't emote at the prisoner, he did not even wait. Walked right to him and slaughtered him. Was over before we could get 10% off the FIRST mob.

70 mage, 475ish aa's, time/god/qvic gear.

took me 3 tries... seemed to get unlucky with resists at the most unfortunate times.

got it on the 3rd try :)

I boted this trial last night. Myself (70 enc, 150 AA, 8k hp with self/bot buffs) and my 47 cleric bot. Was one of the most fun things I've ever done. Very challenging. Gratz my cleric on PoS access. I got 3 named drops while I was learning the strat. 2 shoulders and a mask.

I went to PoStorms and boted one of the signet named to 75% 1st attenpt. I couldn't keep the storm adds off my cleric. I think it's doable.

# Jul 17 2005 at 12:07 PM Rating: Default
ok i just did this and i wanted to make it clearer for those who go after me.
1) you need to hail mavuin 3 x's to complete
- fight way back to him (clearly marked on mapfiend downloaded maps)
- hail him and he asks you to plead his case
2) go to plane of trials (still in same zone and also clearly marked)
3) anyone in group can say it
- hail
- i am prepared
- i am ready to begin trial of ..............
>> the other posts will tell you how to fight refer to them <<
4) loot mark
5) upon sucessful comepletion [return] to plane of trials and hail tribunal (any of them) and say what evidence of mavuin {make sure you spell his name correctly -- i wasted 10 mins trying to figure out why i got no response}
6) head back to mavuin (yes fighting again)
7) hail im and he says something like i need you to plead my case ............ and you get a flag (which is not the final part)
8) head back to trials and say i will plead mavuin's case (again check spelling if no response)
9) fight back to mavuin again and hail him (he will then say something about mith. marr)
10) head to dorf in ber trainer building behind a closed door and say tell me stories (you will then receive free AA) -- although if you have done this in the late 50's you will know that it is far from free.
RE: simpler walkthru for the impatient

This may be one way to do it, but not the shortest by far. We have done this so many times.. Using Trial of Execution as the example...

1) Fight to basement - Hail Mavuin /say What information? -- receive character flag

2) Head to trial area, target each tribunal and /say I am prepared (this is just to find the one you want) Gather group at the foot of the Tribunal you want to do and /say I am prepared to begin the Trial of Execution (group gets ported in)

3) After successful trial target any tribunal guy /say What evidence of Mavuin? (poster is correct on making sure you have the spelling right.. we waste so much time with people spelling it Mauvin)-- receive character flag

4) Head back to Basement and Hail Mavuin.. his text will read at the end, something about him thanking you for returning his freedom -- receieve character flag

5) Head to PoK dwarf as noted and /say I will tell you stories (or I have stories or whatever your favorite variation of that is) -- receieve free AA and all done.

Question: Is there a minimium lvl for any of the trials?

I see lvl 60 listed but normally thats a suggested lvl requirment.
RE: Trials
# May 14 2005 at 2:49 PM Rating: Default
there is no min lvl its much easier if your above 60 though, at 46 you can do it but very few people do.
RE: Trials

sure its not 51 min? I have no evidence to back me up, its just planar progression don't start till 51 for idol.

I finished this trial with my 46 mage, so yes you can do it before level 51. He actually dinged 47 during the trial, lol, it is awseome experience =).
Timer

If u fail say return and try again. If u win and then want to flag more people u cannot go again. there is a timer that will not let you back in. It gives faulse message "trial underway" wait. Timer is approx 30 min. Can u fool it by using a diff leader ??

I managed to pass this on the 3rd try tonight while 6 boxing. Not all that tough anymore.
Used the following (all are pre-elemental with some OOW):
70 war (friend's)
70 clr
68 ench
66 rog (friend's)
66 dru
65 bard
Did not slow a single mob the entire time. All the enchanter did was throw a nuke once on each mob and mezzed maybe twice at most the entire trial.
The hard thing about boxing of course is moving all of them about if needed. So try to minimize your possible movement. Put the casters and the bard in the back left corner by the stage on their mounts (all the bard did the entire trial was play mana song). Have the tank in front of them to grab quick proximity agro and the rogue hidden behind where the tank will be fighting the mobs.
The cleric cast his elixir type spells to reduce agro (one of my losses was because I cast a pious light on the rogue and pulled most of the mobs off the warrior- reducing DPS of course). Other then that the cleric did nothing. Rogue used BS about 50% of the time since I was busy doing stuff with the other characters. Used the druid for nuking only (I tried banishment the frist round and it worked- right before the druid went LD causing me to lose the trial). Banishment would have been more useful had I had a bunch of the rock mobs but I only got 2-3 at most the entire time (the only other time I used it I got a resist). So I just stuck with what was working instead.
Keep it simple if you are planning on boxing and expect a few failures. Got the cleric, druid, and bard flagged for this at least.
Good luck out there.
