You say, 'Hail, Jimlok Keylifter'

Jimlok Keylifter says 'Well met, traveler. Can I be of assistance to you? Can't say as I got much to do at the moment. I'm just attending to a little fishing while I wait on my friend to get back to me. Hopefully he doesn't keep me waiting for too much longer. I can only stand so much of this place.'

You say, 'What friend?'

Jimlok Keylifter says 'This is the situation. My friend Gilor Swiftfoot and I were going to try our hand at breaking into the Plane of Justice. Yeah, yeah, I'm sure you're thinking that's silly and all, but how many people do you know of that can say they've broken out of the Eternal Prison, let alone in? 'None', right? So, we were all ready to go in when I got word that something else needed re-appropriating all quick like. I told Gilor to wait until I got back, but no. He had to run off, eager as always and as patient as a gust of wind. Now, I think he's in trouble.'

You say, 'What trouble?'

Jimlok Keylifter says 'People here seem to think that he tried to make the prison break by himself. They've found another way in, so maybe he took that route. I'd like to check on him, but if he isn't in there, I'm liable to get myself in trouble. I think I'd be much better off staying here and waiting for him. If you want to go look for him, I'd be quite grateful. I doubt you have the skills to get far in there. You don't look like the burglarizing type, but I'd even be willing to give you the document that I picked up on my last job if you look for him.'

You say, 'What document?'

Jimlok Keylifter says 'Don't you worry about that unless you bring me some word of Gilor's condition. Trust me, it's a strange and mysterious document. Just the sort of thing you adventuring types love. Find Gilor and it's all yours, I give you my word.'

You say, 'I will look for him.'

Jimlok Keylifter says 'Alright, friend, you need to be on the lookout for a gnome about my height, with one bad leg. He's got a bit of a limp, but he's still a hard one to chase down. If you can't find him, be on the lookout for anything that resembles a small bottle. He's got a way with rodents; so if you see some little pest carrying a bottle of some sort, grab him! It will most likely be a message for me. Bring it back immediately. It won't be of any use to you anyway, since you can't read our code. Be quick and good luck!'

Kill A Festering Rat in the Plane of Justice to obtain a Tiny Bottle with Note. Give this to Jimlok Keylifter.

Jimlok Keylifter sighs deeply as he hands you an intricate schematic of some device. The notation on the document is written in a strange language that is completely foreign to you. 'This doesn't bode well for Gilor. He says he's found a secret tunnel and he's going to go in deeper. I guess I'll go in and find him if he doesn't return soon. Well, a deal is a deal. Here is the document that I mentioned.'

Jimlok Keylifter says 'The person that I was supposed to lift it for was a jeweler of sorts, but he mainly dealt in mechanical devices. I wasn't able to track him down to get my coin, so I don't know what you'll do with it. Maybe my cousin Tabben will give you something for it. He's got himself a little tinker's shop in the Jeral section of New Tanaan. Show him the map thingy and see what he says.'

You receive a Strange Jeweler's Schematic. Go to Tabben Bromal in the Plane of Knowledge.

You say, 'Hail, Tabben Bromal'

Tabben Bromal says 'What is it? What do you wan. . . Oh bloody underfoot, do forgive me, traveler. I'm not used to all this bickering and flittering about -- you know, the bustle of the 'living' city. The racket, the noise, and the wails of the children. Bah! I came here to escape it, not to relive it. But if I survived it once, I sure as Brell's holy bottom will do it again! In hopes of getting you all out of here as soon as possible and the peace and quiet being resurrected out of your blessed absence, I've agreed to lend some of my knowledge of the more inferior levels of tinkering to those who have an interest in this art. If you don't intend on purchasing any materials, then be off with you and leave me in peace. However, if you have coin in your pocket and you plan on spending, then do so quickly. I have more pressing things to do with my time than wait while you leisurely browse my wares.'

Give him the schematic.

Tabben Bromal takes the document from you and looks at it for a moment. 'Well, this is a beautiful looking schematic. I wonder what they are trying to make with it? Where did you get this? No wait; don't tell me. I'd rather not know. I can make some of this writing out but just barely. What I can read leads me to believe that I'd be better off not knowing.'

Tabben Bromal falls victim to his curiosity and grabs a small kit from the table behind him. 'Take this kit and look for the following parts,' he says as he scrunches his nose at the schematic again. 'We'll need a Tri-coated Metal Casing, one Size C spring, some Creeping silk strands -- whatever those are -- and some Congealed Bile-based Ooze. I'm not sure if this thing is wanting us to make a device or some sort of nasty cocktail, but that's what it's asking for... ewww!'

You receive a Small Parts Kit.

Tabben Bromal says 'Seal those things up in the container that I just gave you and bring it straight back to me. I'll wait here for you and see if I can decipher anymore of this schematic.'

Tri-Coated Metal Casing - random from spiders in PoI,
Size C Spring - random from models in PoI,
Creeping Silk Strands - from a virulent arachnid in PoN
Congealed Bile-Based Ooze - from a pile of bile in PoD
[The loot tables for the bile and arachnids used to be switched, but should now be fixed.]

Combine the four parts in the Small Parts Kit to craft a Sealed Parts Box. Give this to Tabben.

Tabben Bromal says 'Oh, you've returned! Very good, ______! Saria and I have made some real progress on the document that you brought us. Watch this and you'll see what I mean!'

Tabben Bromal quickly opens the small case and removes the parts. He takes a tiny spanner, several small bolts, and a long wire and quickly pieces together what appears to be a small clockwork talisman. He pulls a leather string through the top of it and offers it to you.

You receive a Small Clockwork Talisman.
You receive a Small Parts Container.

Tabben Bromal says 'That should work for you, but from what we gathered, there's another layer of mechanics that works to shield and envelope the existing talisman. It's going to require more parts. So take this container and let me know when you're ready to write down the names of the next set of parts.'

Problems with the Kit

Bromal gave me the Kit, but when I try to combine the items in it nothing happens, not even the red error message indicating I use the wrong items.
- Congealed bile-based ooze from PoD
- Creeping Silk Strands from PoD
- Size C Spring from PoI
- Tri-coated Metal Casing from PoI

Note that when I remove one of the item or put any other item in it, I do get the error message.

So it seems I am using the good items but the container "trigger" is broken.

I /bugged the issue.

This is a known bug as of today; people have been reporting similar problems with other special/quest containers. Expect this to be fixed in the near future, but hang onto those items for now.

Problem with Bromal
# Feb 02 2004 at 11:31 PM Rating: Decent
I am a 63rd lvl Ranger and I have been trying to complete this part of the Talisman series for almost 7 months now.

I can get the schematic easlily however every time I give it to Bromal he tells me that he is giving me the kit but does not do so.

Yes I have an open inventory slot for a container. I have posted numerous bug reports on this and gotten no where. There for I am assuming that I am doing something wrong and probably stupid can anyone tell me what it is?

Thanks

Spiders in PoN still drop the ooze so the loot tables are still backwards, despite the claim at the top of the page that they are fixed. I confirmed this by killing lots of spiders in PoN and all they had was ooze.

finished this quest tonight, by getting the ooze to drop in PoN from a spider. 4 oozes dropped in about 20min period, so my friends and i were happy to see a nice drop rate, but yes...ooze still drops from spiders.

Many EQ'rs refer to the Small Clockwork Talisman (granted by this quest), the Powered Clockwork Talisman (granted by the next quest), and The Binden Concerrentia (from the final quest in this chain) as "gate necks"... an inaccurate nickname as the items all actually cast a port to Plane of Knowledge.

The talismans from the first two quests have limited port charges, while the Binden Concerrentia does not.

In addition to using a charge, each cast of this port also requires a Quintessence of Knowledge. Each costs about 105pp minimum to make, trivials at alchemy 21, is stackable, and currently sells for 150pp each in The Bazaar on my server, so get a shaman buddy.

In my experience the most painful drops for this quest are far and away the Tri-coated Metal Casing in PoI and the Creeping Silk Strands in PoD. The rest come quickly by comparison. If you value inventory space get the Tiny Bottle and Note last... it's the easiest to get and will only take up space if you get it early. This quest can take many days or even weeks to complete if you dont get lucky on the harder drops.

On a brighter note... levels 2 and 3 in this chain of quests are very easy to complete by comparison, as the drops for each of them are nearly common. Note that you'll need drops from all four elemental planes before you finish the third quest, so it's not for everyone. The Binden has very decent saves on it, so even if you are a port class the quests are worth looking into.

If you need the port and have the luxury of planning for such things, then take note that at level 62 mages with the spell Talisman of Return can summon a 'norent' neck item that will cast the same port (also requires the same, pricey reagent).

If you have more time than money and can potter okay, this quest can earn you a 1-shot item that peforms a similar function into Thurgadin which many consider useful.

Enjoy.

When did the Quintessence of knowledge thing become required? I have used 2 charges of my necklace and had no such component. It has been quite a while though.
No Recharge
# Aug 30 2003 at 10:44 PM Rating: Decent
Concerning recharge - theres no known way to recharge these short of redoing the quest. Ive combined Neck with quintessence in both toolbox and in small parts kit with no success. Some pally in my group last night got upset when i told him there was no way to recharge it. He swore his friend had done it but all his friend could do was tell him to use quintessence. Um - no. Neither Class 5 nor Class 6 batteries work either. Good Luck! If you find a way then post it.

Tri-Metal coatings are a ***** to get while grouped, best thing to do is just get a PoI dragon raid and ask if one drops if you could loot, chances are they will say yes. There will prolly be 2-4 that drop during the whole push forward to the dragon. Good luck hope you get one its how i got mine.

What you need.
1) Tri-Coated Metal Casing (spiders in PoI)
2) Tiny Bottle and Note(first 4 rats in PoJ)
3) Size C Spring (erratic, obsolete etc models PoI)
4) Congealed Bile-based Ooze (PoN Virulent Arachnids)
5) Creeping silk strands (PoD goo mobs)

Hand the Tiny Bottle and Note to Jimlok Keylifter in Plane of Tranquility and he will give you a note to give to tabban in Plane of Knowledge. Tabban is in the room above the forges.

Make room for a container, you will have it till you finish the 2nd talisman. Hand tabban the note. Combine Size-C Spring, Congealed Bile-Based Ooze, Creeping Silk Strands, and Tri-Coated Metal Casing in the container. Will combine to a sealed box. Hand that back to tabban and you get your small clockwork talisman and another container.

That's it, bank yer new container.
Combine?

got my creeping strands last night, and I only need the tri coted casing. when i get all of the parts do i hit the combine button and then hand it in? or do i hand it in without combining? dont want to ***** it up :)
RE: Combine?
# Jul 17 2003 at 11:15 AM Rating: Decent
If a quest container has a combine button, you ALWAYS combine it before handing it in.

All quest containers have combine buttons.

You ALWAYS combine before handing them in.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 08 2003 at 6:03 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well Doh, every quest that gives you a box to fill requires you to hit combine before turning it in. Guess what this is going to be?

Got it today
# Apr 22 2003 at 4:20 PM Rating: Default
I got my last item today, the silk strands, some kind soul called me to POD near the castle entrance and let me loot it. It seems the bile near the castle drop it more often, I have been farming on the ridge for days, no luck.
summary
# Apr 21 2003 at 11:26 AM Rating: Decent
Finished this up last night. The bile drop in POD was the toughest for me (didn't help that some folks were /ooc'ing 4k plat for loot rights), but at 60 was getting good AA exp so no real loss.

Quest Items:
Congealed Bile-Based Ooze - Spiders in PON (pulled near ugly tree not too far from graveyard)
Creeping Silk Strands - Bile in POD (camped in front of Castle and pulled along the river)
Size C Spring - POI (sorry do not recall the name of MOB, was killed on way to factory one day and this dropped)
Tiny Bottle and Note - POJ (seems like a common drop off rats)
Tri-Coated Metal Casing - POI (spiders near entrance, saw a couple in a four hour session)

The first turn in Jimlok, is standing on the stairs which you go by to get to PON entrance. The second turn in Tabben, was in POK, second floor of building, negative 390, 575.

After you do the turn in you are left with the toolbox for combine. IF you intend to go on to number 2 do not destroy this container, it will be needed from what I read.

Good luck.

This drops off the spider type dealies in the PoI. I think it ONLY drops off of them. I hear it is uncommon but we killed 2 spiders lastnight and one dropped the casing. That was on Cazic Thule so it doesnt appear to be so bad of a rare drop.

Ok, from what I've read here, I'm getting the impression that the charges can ONLY be used IF you have the reagent. Then, once the charges are gone, regardless of a reagent, then it cannot be recharged?

The "Congealed-Bile Based Ooze" is supposed to drop from Virulent Arachnids, however we killed these for 2 1/2 hours south of the graveyard in PoN and it didn't drop. Is this now a RARE drop?
