You say, 'Hail, Trep Thilcan'

Trep Thilcan says 'Hi! You wouldn't be able to do a favor for a poor gnome would you?'

You say, 'I will do you a favor.'

Trep Thilcan says 'Well I am trying to setup a shop here, it is such a choice location! I am afraid if I leave though that nasty Halfling over there may steal my spot! She has been watching me keenly all day. I know she is just waiting for me to walk away. If you would go purchase some supplies for me from various locations around the world I would be able to reward you for your time spent. If you are ready to begin?'

You say, 'I am ready to begin.'

Trep Thilcan says 'Great! Here is a special crate. It needs to be filled with:

A purification tablet from Freeport
A keg of beer from Qeynos
A ball of twine from Shadeweaver
A bundle of weapons from Firiona
An armor assortment from Thurgadin
And a case of meat from the Bazaar

That should give me quite a stock of items to sell to travelers out here.'

Purification Tablet: Krystin Charcoal (good) in West Freeport or Toxdil (evil) in East Freeport.

Keg of Beer: Crow or Tanlyn Galliway in North Qeynos (good) or Darien Felton in Neriak (evil).

Large Ball of Twine: Saren Kaja in Shadeweaver's Thicket or Fugla in the Feerrott.

Bundle of Weapons: Dom Pathfinder in Firiona Vie at +465, -3350 (good) OR Ootok in Grobb (evil).

Armor Assortment: Terman Underbelly in Thurgadin

Case of Meat: Gaelsori Heriseron in The Bazaar or Gellanna Zon in The Barter Hall.

Trep Thilcan says 'Fantastic! You got me everything I need to set up shop. Here is some money for your troubles. I hoped you learned something as well. I am sorry I have nothing more to give you except this advice, if you combine:

A clockwork carapace
A metal rod
Gnomish bolts
Firewater
And Grease

..in a Toolbox you should get something nice!'

You gain experience!!

When can you start this quest
# Jan 22 2003 at 6:49 PM Rating: Default
Anyone know the lowest lvl to start this quest ? My chanter is currently lvl 31.

Also is this quest worth doing past 51 ?

To answer a few questions, you can't start this quest until lvl 35+, as for if it's worth doing past 51, can't answer that one, but I'm doing it AT 51 and I'm getting 1% AA xp per turn in (my xp is set for 100% AA atm) Hope this helps out, GL to all

The item from Saren is actually called a "Large Ball of Twine," but it does really look like a rolled ball to me. It is on the right side of her inventory, about 5-6 slots down. With a charisma of 117, it costs me about 5 PP, 2 GP. Good luck.

Trep wont give up the combine box
# Jan 18 2003 at 7:26 PM Rating: Decent
hmmm Trep will not give me the box, he says that I need to go kill a few more large rats and other stuff about me not being able to handle the quest. Funny I have all the materiels to give him if he would only give me the combine box. I am a level 21 Druid. Is my level the problem or do I need to do Willemina's quest first ??
RE: Trep wont give up the combine box
# Jan 19 2003 at 5:34 AM Rating: Decent
You need to be a certain level before he'll give you the box. 34 works. Not sure how low you can go but I've heard 33.

Exp for a level 51 rogue was 2% per quest run. (ran this four times and finished off the last 7% of 51)
Exp for a 39 druid was 8% per quest run.

Don't recall what it was for my 34 enchanter. I'll check when I get the time.

Ok ive seen several people ask this question. Iskar Necros, Sk's ect.. im a Eurdite Necro and I am having the same trouble I need to know how to get the bundle of weapons FV is KoS to evil races no matter how high you get the faction my friends say cannot get any higher and they still kill him hes an iskar. And i cant seem to find anyone to kill to raise Da bashers faction needed to get into Grobb besides 1 guy that has like a 12 hour spawn timer named bubblegup or something in Steamfont. Theres plenty of Quest in Grobb that raise faction but you cant do them if your KoS lol So if anyone knows or can help Research this for me I would greatly appreciate it. I've already died several times trying to Sneak into FV Pilgrims, Exlporers, And drixies can all sell invis..... Someone also said u can invis by the guards and the merchant will be indiff but hes on the same faction as the guards according to this site so can anyone verify this? Thanks ahead of time for the help. Someone please assist us :)

"FV is KoS to evil races no matter how high you get the faction my friends say cannot get any higher and they still kill him hes an iskar"

Your friend is wrong. All factions can be fixed, it just might take more work than he's done.

My DE Mage is ally to FV, and over the years I've become somewhat of a faction master, able to alter my factions at will for whatever reason I need. I don't even worry about faction, because I can change it whenever I want.

Ally to giants yesterday, ally to dragons today, ally to giants again tomorrow. I change factions just to do whatever quests I wanna do, so trust me when I say faction is so meaninless that they shouldn't have even bothered with it.

Anyway, not trying to sound arrogant or anything, I'm just trying to get the point across (especially for all the evil people right now crying about the trolls not being home) that faction is quite easy to change.

- Just do it.

Did they miss adding that to the descriptions? All I see is that the crate is NO DROP and 5 of the 6 items are LORE.
Let me know, I have a Good/Evil team with my wife and it would be easier just to hand off some of the items.

The crate and the 5 items are no drop, however, you both can do the quest, you just need to go to a few different vendors.

Downfall
# Jan 09 2003 at 10:50 PM Rating: Decent
I made the mistake of running this quest from 39 up until about 50, and I regret it now. I was getting more exp and certainly more pp from running the quest than grouping, so I chose the quest most of the time.
Now I'm level 52 and I feel like I missed out on a lot of learning experiences through those missed levels. I don't have experience from a lot of my spells and this is my first EQ char, I could have learned a lot grouping with more experienced players instead of running Trep's quest over and over again. Now, at 52 I feel like a dope when I still have to ask others questions about my spells that I should have known by now, had I used them.
That's just my mistake though.
RE: Downfall
# Mar 13 2003 at 10:32 AM Rating: Decent
Yeah Malicia, that can be a problem.

My advice to you would be to first go to eq.crgaming.com and read up on your spells and the strategies behind them. Then, if you are not on a PVP server, you can cast these spells on a friend to gain spell lvls - For example, if you abjuration is low, find a spell that takes little mana and cast it over and over again on a friend. Once you have your skills up where they should be, start grouping more often, try to group with another person in your class and see their strategies with those spells.

I know a shammy can shrink.. if I zone I loose my shrunk state.

I know I can buy a shrink potion.. Cost.. crazy like.

Team up with a shammy maybe? Anyone know of a way?

Thanks!

buy a shrinking device from one of your local tinkers. They run about 1500-2k on Seventh Hammer. 20 charges. Rechargable with a class 1 mana battery which will run ya about 20pp.

Just to add a little something different: For those Wizards out there that are doing this quest, bind in Thurg and Lesser Evac from FV book. That takes you to the bridge.

Also, try not to gate back to PoK unless you have some form of clarity running. It is faster to run to the book because you are then in the right part of PoK. Saves time!

Good luck!
Better way of doing quest
# Dec 24 2002 at 5:22 PM Rating: Good
Ok if you are going to do this quest you want to do it as fast as possible because it is very boring. I know I have made over 3000p doing this quest which is at least 90 times.

First turn all of the character models off. You want to do the quest quickly and by zoning quickly the quest can be done quicker.

Secondly if you are a gating class bind in the PoK it will make the entire trip much faster if you won't have to run back to the books just gate. C3 will be helpful here I have run out of mana without C3 on.

Thirdly (is that a word) all classes should end the trip in Thurg or FV. When at these vendors open the container and hit the combine button and buy the armor assortment (Thurg) or the weapons bundle (FV) again. That way the two longest trips only have to be done once per cycle. Make sure that the item has actually been purchased sometimes the database doesn't get updated as quickly as you can hit buttons and you may get the 'you allready have this item message', give it a second or 2 and everything should be good.

If you can't SOW buy a 10 dose potion in the bazaar you will make all of the money you spent on this potion in about 2 trips.

You can get information on the vendor names else where in this board so I won't get into those details here.

I will end it with this I can complete the cycle in 12-14 minutes with SOW on and gating back up to PoK. As I stated this is a very boring quest and just like a trip to the dentist the less time you spend there the better! :)

Saren Kaja is busy.
# Dec 18 2002 at 5:35 PM Rating: Decent
Yesterday, I found Saren Kaja outside the building she's usually in. She was probably attacked, but at any rate, she told me that she was too busy to sell at that time. On a hunch, I ported to Feerott and was able to buy a large ball of twine from Fulga (Fugla?) and continue the quest. I'm a halfling druid and she still conned green/indifferent to me. Hope this helps.

Here is how I do it with my Druid at level 42 and enchanter hydra (I play both at once). There is an important note at end.

0) Port into PoK turn around run to 2nd tree. Trip is there.
1) tell Trip; I am ready to begin. Drop box into FIRST top left inventory slot so all items you buy will now go in it.
2) while facing trip turn to the right and run out the first exit on the right
3) turn left after going thru archway and run to next archway and turn go in to your left
4) turn right after going thru archway and run 2nd protal which is freeport
5) facing book turn right and run down tunnel and thru secret wall
6) run to freeport and enter stay on left wall until you reach Krystin.
7) Buy purifiier pill
8) run back thru portal and when in PoK move FV portal which is the next stone over.
9) Run down tunnel to first intersection
10) turn right and head to FV. Invis and run gauntlet of spiders. Turn right slightly and head to water.
11) run along water a short way and look back towards mountains til you see a bunch of rocks above beach.
12) This is secret tunnel to FV. Enter and go all way thru.
13) Leaving the tunnel buildiing turn hard left and go to building near water.
14) enter building and buy Wepaon asortment form Dom Pathfinder
15) Bind HERE. This is the longest part of the run and will be much easier to simply gate back. Port back to PoK.
16) In future you will SKIP the FV portal entirely now go directly to..
17) Qeynos Portal. Enter Qeynos and hang a right as you go in to the Priest of discord. The first door he is looking at has Tanlyn Galliway with the keg of beer.
18) Now either go back to PoK and take the next stone over to Shar Vahl
19) Turn around form book and run straight thru tents to the second building on the far side of the clearing. It is next to the bank which is the first building.
20) Find Saren Kaja and buy ball of yarn.
21) Run back to PoK book and then go to next portal which is great divide.
22) face book turn left and follow wall around to river. Behind waterfall is secret entrance to thurgardin.
23) Once all the way in thurgardini past all gates turn right and go to first building and find Terman Underbelly and Armor Asortment. If you are not a druid then go back to book and PoK and then take nexus portal. If you are druid port directly to Nexus.
24) Go South to Bazaar.
25) Go to second flor of middle building and find Gaelsori Heriseron and buy case of meat.
26) If druid port to PoK otherwise take book and find Trip again.
27) IMPORTANT NOTE: Hit combine on the box now. If you do NOT hit combine and give Trip the box he says no thank you and gives it back EMPTY. What a waste of time.
28) Note you can do this in a group. All group members will recieve aporx 1 and half blue bubbles of Xp and about 35pp profit.

Note once your bind is in FV you can skip that step and not go there until after you do Thurgardin.

Assuming you have a druid in your group you can do this quest in aprox 18 minutes with SoW. Also if you have a chanter get your cha above 125 to get best prices for items.

Before you begin, get the container from Trep. When you have bought the final item, fill the container, click combine while you're still at the final vendor. Now you have an object (no longer the individual items). Purchase that last item again. Yes, the vendor will tell you you already have that lore item. Close the vendor window and open it again. The vendor will sell it this time. Pick up the other 5 items. When you get back to Trep, hand him the "crate of supplies", or whatever it's now called. You'll get your 60pp. Then say "I am ready to begin". He'll give you another container. Fill it with those 6 loose items and combine again. Turn it in for another 60pp. It does save a little time.

Whenever possible, I make the FV purchase last because those drachnids still creep me out! If I can avoid an additional run through them I will.

Running all these errands is not exciting, but I am still getting just over a blue bubble of exp. at lvl 42. Besides, now that you have PoP, you're travelling all over anyway, aren't you? Just pick up the items when you happen to be in these cities.
KoS
# Dec 16 2002 at 4:49 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, I noticed someone else said they were KoS in both FV and Grobb. It was mentioned that they could try some invis tricks to get the items necessary. Well, I'm indiff to the merchant in Grobb, but KoS to the guards, all of whom seem to be standing around the merchant waiting for me to drop invis so they can keel me. I'm thinking my best bet will be to just raise Basher faction so I can buy without the hassle. Anyone know how difficult or easy it is to raise Bashers?

For once a quest with a decent reward, but it's basically a test of zoning speed; on my slow PC I take 25 minutes to do the quest, most of which is spent zoning. With a fast PC it must be pretty handy, and I still managed to make over a yellow of XP in the five or six runs I made through the quest at 35 before I got too bored to continue.

Gotta mention this about zonig. My experience with it from two totally different computers.
Zonig is based on Connection to internet I believe. Why becuase i played EQ with a crappy 350mhz pentium with 256ram and a 16mb graphics card But i had a cable modem and was zipping through the zones like hot knife through well you get the idea... Now im on a pimped out Computer.. P4 2.4ghz with 1024mb ram Nvidia 4 ti4600 with 265mb BUT im on a dial up until i get a cable modem and i Zone so damn slow its pathetic. with old computer i couldnt turn on any graphics but with new computer i can turn them all on. But tried zoning both wways with fast comp Basic EQ no thrills and zone same long zone as with all the bells and whistles.
Just my opinion
RE: Zone speed
# Jan 05 2003 at 1:55 AM Rating: Decent
Internet connection speed is not relevant AT ALL to zoning times.

Try turning off ALL Luclin models. Then zone. Zone back. Fast eh? It'll also get you to character select screen faster...

Basically, the BIGGEST part of zoning is loading the new zone into memory - and if Luclin models are taking up memory, there's less to put the zone into memory... in theory, anyway.

# Jan 30 2003 at 1:38 PM Rating: Decent
Actually, internet connection speed DOES affect zoning times. I used to use a 56k dialup. On the same computer, when I switched to DSL (no other changes) I went from an average of just over a minute per zone, to under 30 seconds.

The reason it will affect zone times is that your PC needs to load all the current zone information that's obtained from the server during the load time. Thing like mob locations, PC locations, etc.

How did you do that?!?

WEll anyhoo, go kill in the Black Burrow for a while. After you kill for an hour or so, go check your faction. There still might be some people that are KOS so be careful. Also, before you start all this, look up some quests that might help you with your faction as quests generally give more faction hits and ther are a lot of things you can loot in BB to get faction up.

I am having problems getting Crow to even talk to me. being a dwarf I do not have the best CHA but should be able to do this.
My druid can do this easiely I found the FV book is the hardest to get to and from. here is some help with that

The book is at loc -455,+4673=> proceed to the turn at loc -108,+4084=> the tunell entrace is at loc -199,+3599 and the bridge to get to the dock area is at loc -2276, +1969.
I have found that if you are a druid you can use lessor succor to put you right outside the city gates it is easy from there.
If anyone can help me get over that fation problem I would appreciate it. I thought about killing some gnolls in black burrow but would perfer not to do that.
My cost as a druid halfling is about 32-33 PP and i get about 1 blue for each quest.

Other post here is right on the Keg of Beer. I got mine from Talyn Gallaway also. (I'm HIE Cleric, BTW)
I also had problem with the ball of twine. Saren would buy/sell with me but not that item. There are two varieties of palm trees in the zone. about 10% have blue leaves and blue marks on trunk. at the base of these there are little blue mushroom ground spawns, Paya or something like that. run around and collect a stack of these and turn in to Saren 4 at a time. You get the needed faction to buy the ball of twine.
would have been a quick cycle were it not for the time spent figuring out how to get faction in Shadeweaver's. will probably do it again now that that is fixed. Oh and they fixed the thing about grabbing a second item after you do the combine in the last zone. you get teh nodrop message now even though the box is closed. so much for shaving a stop off the next round. Good luck all.

Just close the trade window after the "You already have that Lore Item on your person or in the bank." message, and then reopen it. You can then buy the item.

She will sell to my Halfing when Crow will not.

The information above i think is incoorect. I did the good version of this quest found out that all 6 items are Lore items. It must be the same for the evil version. This means that no muliplies are allowed, which is not surprising given the level of the quest. In addtion, save for the tablet, everything is No Drop. I am not quite sure how you can have multiplies but i know all Lore items are only singles.

The recipe given by Trep is for a wok, made with the tinkering skill and is reported as trivial > 250.

The wok is in turn used in the baking recipe for tormentor stir fry:
bloody tormentor parts
wok
fish oil
(foraged) vegetables
rice
trivial >250
yield 3
with the following stats:
miraculous meal
DEX 8, AGI 8, STA 8, HP 50; wt 2.0, large.

EqTraders also reports the wok is returned on success or failure.
Evil races doing this quest

As I ran this quest as a necro, I found all the places to go, so to assist all the evil races (need faction enough to interact with merchants in Grobb, Neriak and Thurgadin).

In Grobb, just past the river on the left, there is a vendor named Ootok (loc 224, n34) sells a bundle of weapons.

In Neriak, As you enter the city go left to the bar where the guard stands and you will find Darien Felton (loc 137, n99) there that sells beer kegs.

In Thurgadin, make a right into the main thoroughfare, and it's the first building on the right. See Terman Underbelly (loc n416, n118) for the armor assortment.

In Shadeweaver Thickets (Shar Val portal puts you in this zone and all races start indiff to the cats), go to the building past the bank to get a ball of twine from Saren Kaja (loc n1421, n2791).

In the Bazaar, go upstairs to Gaelsori Heriseron (loc n670, n13) for the case of meat. Head to Fungus Grove to save an extra trip to freeport.

In Fungus Grove, It's the first building on the right as you enter town. Only 1 merchant in there, Samfort Ruggen (loc n1669, n917) sells Purification Tablets.

I am a DE Necro and Trep told me to get the ball of twine in Feerot. I found a large ball of twine from a vendor named Fugla. From the PoK book, head to the bridge over the river. Take a right before crossing the bridge and Fugla can be found in front of the left one of the two stone huts along the river.
