Trooper Shestar can be found inside the gates to the Field of Bone.

You say, 'Hail, Trooper Shestar'

Trooper Shestar says 'My father was a great blacksmith. He taught me how to make great items such as the [Shestar scaled coif]. Alas, smithing was not my rebirth, but rather the life of a warrior.'

You say, 'What is the Shestar scaled coif?'

Trooper Shestar says 'The Shestar scaled coif was a light coif my father would fashion out of loose scales from the scaled wolves. I have some scales on me, and if you bring me three loose scales I will have enough to create the coif for you, but I require you to also pay a fee of five gold.'

For this quest, you will need 3x Loose Scales (dropped by scaled wolves in the Field of Bone). In particular, they are a very common drop off a scaled wolf stalker in the central pit.

Once you have three of them, return to Trooper Shestar and hand in 3x Loose Scales + five gold pieces:

Trooper Shestar quickly inserts the scales into a half finished coif and hands you the coif. 'I am afraid that is not enough and I cannot possibly complete the task while on duty. You must go and find an additional three scaled wold scales and take them, along with the unfinished coif, to the nearest forge and complete the smithing yourself. I hope you are a blacksmith.'

You receive Shestar's Unfinished Coif.

Ypu have completed Achievement: Cabilis Quests - Shestar's Scaled Coif

Go to any forge and combine 1x "Shestar's Unfinished Coif" + 3x "Loose Scales" to create Shestar's Scaled Coif. This completes the quest.

You actually only need 3 Loose Scale, When you hand those in with 5 gold, the quest ends and you get Shestar's Unfinished Coif.

You can finish it, if you want, but that is not a Quest requirement.

No faction hits, just a message about gaining XP.

When you hand in the scales and gold, make sure the scales are split with one in each square.

This is a nice quest to do. I just buy the scales I need off the merchants in FoB. I just make this coifs for fun and give them to the newbs.

I have done this quest with a Smithing skill lower than 7 , and the success of this skill depends on your INT or WIS stat. Sometimes you get it the first time and sometimes it takes forever. I use the forge between the two merchant tents near the enterance of SoNH.

The Shestar's Coif had one nasty looking icon once. It was a shiny black and a crest similar to the throne hidden in a crypt in FoB newb area. After Luclin, the coif has no updated icon as of yet. I have sent in e-mails through the "Bug" in socials, but nothing has been done yet.

The Rhino Hide Skullcap has the same AC as the coif but is heavier. Looks like a giant skull too. I miss the old coif 'icon' though. =(

Not exactly true... smithing success depends on your current skill and your strength. Wisdom or intelligence (whichever is higher) effects your chance of raising your skill when attempting to make a non-trivial item; it has nothing to do with your chance of successfully creating it.

Actually, you are not exactly correct, either. All tradeskills have a secondary attribute which is used if it is higher than your WIS/INT. STR is the secondary attribute for levelling up in smithing. WIS/INT (along with your current skill level) still determines how fast you level up and how successful your combines are if they are higher than your STR.

I went and did this quest with my shiny new Iskar..

I have already gone through 30 loose scales trying to combine this item, it hands me back the coif, so I know its the right way to do it, just get a message saying my skill is not high enough...

I put 8 point into smithing and still no luck, arrgh, so fustrating...
10 minute quest
# Feb 25 2002 at 10:39 PM Rating: Default
This quest really only takes about 10 minutes with a lvl 6 necro. Get a group, (this takes from 10 seconds to an hour) kill some scaled wolves, get some loose scales, give it to the guy,(with the money) he gives you unfinished one, then you have loose scales left, go to the forge, and make it. Ussually you can buy a bunch of loose scales off a merchant if your lucky.

I did this quest with my monk at level 5 in a group of three other lvl 5 iksars-- easy peasy! and fun..The forge is the black oven like thing behind haggle barrons by the court of pain to use left click the forge and it should open showing you inventory slots-- place unfinished coif inside and loos scales hit combine and the new coif drops in your invnetory:P I also must add what a kewl quest for newbies-- this was funand you get something kewl looking and useful inthe end! I also belive you can do the quest repeatedly-- but only to get smithing skills up cheap(as the coif is lore)

where to forge
# Jul 27 2001 at 1:44 PM Rating: Decent
what do i need to forge this thing?
BS skill
# Jul 01 2001 at 8:19 AM Rating: Default
Basically, you would need a BS skill of 7 to smith this Coif, but you can also do it with BS skill of 0 too. Anywho, it has the same AC as a Rhino Hide skullcap, but it doesnt cost any Platt to gain it!

Someone on The Nameless, which has way too many Chars

Maybe I got lucky, but I stumbled upon this quest, with no smithing talent, and forged them on the first try. I love the look = )
What trivial?
# Jun 18 2001 at 5:07 AM Rating: Default
What trivial level do you need to be to smith the second part of this quest? a friend of mine did it with NO SKILL in smithing whatsoever, was this a fluke or is it that easy?

Look
# May 01 2001 at 1:21 AM Rating: Default
Dark, charred iron mask, with wings on each side, a spike on the top, and cool-looking eye holes.

Probably just the chain-look, but... I'm new to this iksar thing. :)
What does it look like?

What does this look liek when equiped? I'm wearing a Rhino Hide cap right now, which looks like a horned skull.

trivial level?

does anyone know what the exact trivial level is?
oh yeah you put the loose scales and the unfinished coif in the forge then hit combine ;p
end of quest
# Apr 11 2001 at 7:53 PM Rating: Default
what you do with the unfinished coif

you take 3 more LOOSE SCALES put them in the forge with the unfinished coif and thats it.
Why?
# Apr 07 2001 at 11:54 PM Rating: Default
Why is this quest in the Cleric, Druid, Rogue, Bard and Ranger quest lists? If you're not an Iksar and are able to get this item Shestar must be green to you so you don't want it.
RE: Why?
# Jul 28 2001 at 10:41 AM Rating: Decent
why not? that's my question. maybe someone just gave you something nicer, and you have a rogue or ranger buddy or something that needs a helm? the item isn't nodrop. maybe they wanna encourage trading between low levels...
RE: Why?

I actually did this quest with my druid (yes DRUID) just for kicks, I currently have ally faction with the guards and necros and dubious to merchants, getting close to threatening with the rest of the factions in Cabilis, I love tripping the iksar noobs out when I walk in and I don't get kos'd in this zone, hehe.
