You say, 'Hail, Lohie Cantare'

Lohie Cantare says 'Greetings, Gwyndalyn. Have you come to see my exhibit? I am honored but also sad to say it is incomplete. Mine will be the finest presentation of musical history you will find, once I finish assembling my display. If you have some free time, perhaps you could help me collect some still missing [pieces]?'

You say, 'What pieces?'

Lohie Cantare says 'I need you to bring me a Minotaur Horn, Tambourine of Rituals, Orcish Lute of Singing, and a Stretched Skin Drum. If you could find these for me, I would be most overjoyed. You will need to get a Collector's Box from [Merri] to keep them in. Close the box up tightly and return it to me once you have placed the instruments inside. Hurry back and we shall have a grand festival!'

You say, 'Who is Merri?'

Lohie Cantare says 'Curator Merri is the founder of the museum in the Selia district of New Tanaan. She is a true visionary and a wonderful person as well. It is her dream to turn life's love into something truly grand. She also carries with her the Collector's Boxes. If you need one, be sure to ask her for it.'

Just did this today

with my level 22 mage - managed to get all the quest givers for this line of PoK quests to talk with me, so it seems you can do these quests at 22, which is good since the effects pretty much end at 44.

So minimum level is for sure 22, possibly lower.

And yes, I bought everything.

Actually the effects end with level 44 spells. Most people won't stop using thier level 44 spells until they get the next circle of spells, and then they may still use some of those spells into thier 50's if they don't get upgrades to lower level spells.
Tambourine?
# Jan 21 2003 at 3:31 PM Rating: Decent
I see where everything drops but the tambourine. Kunark, obviously, but where?

I got the tambourine from a goblin dirtcaller in the Frontier Mountains near the Dreadlands tunnel.

got one of these today from a guildie who was camping the gobbies in the gobbie fort in war woods.

Yes this tambo drops off of the gobbies (soothsayers) in WW at gobbie fort--if ya go there someone is almost always camping Grachnist and you can just hang out there and one will eventually drop, Guildy was killing Grach and I was soloing Brutes in the caves by Dalnir--one dropped I ran over looted it and now it is an alternate percussion piece for my bard--till now think I will use it for turn in to get this cape for my bard. BTW they drop pretty frequent not a "rare" drop.
Stretched Skin Drum
# Nov 15 2002 at 2:46 PM Rating: Default
Anyone else find that the stretched skin drum doesn't fit the characteristics of the other items or of the quest results?

It is a RARE drop of a RARE spawn.
It is worth more as an instrument to a bard then the end result is worth to anyone.

This makes me think one of two things. Stretched skin will be nerfed of it's effects and made a rare drop of common grimlings, or they will replace the item required in the quest with some other drum like the combine or they could add a new one that fits with the quest. I would hate to see them nerf the drum for bards as it's a good drum and I would hate for anyone to waste a good drum like this on a kinda crappy quest with the results it has now.

VI should replace it with a different drum.

I've actually looted at least 3 Stretched Skin Drums off Grum no Eyes in Hollowshade more. I was going for the Fang Shaped Stone Earring he drops, which is his real treasure. The drum didn't seem particularly rare, you just have to make sure the grimlings have control of the sonic wolf cave. He spawns where the sonic wolf packleader normally spawns. Can't sell these drums to save my life. They're actually better then MM Drum, but people just don't know what they are.

I have to agree with KBombadil. It didn't seem to be that rare. It also dropped for me twice in two nights for a total of 4 Kept one for quest and sold the other 3 on Bazaar for 1K each sold within an hour. What I think is rare is when the gobs take over the sonic cave (cave on east wall. There dosen't seem to be a way to trigger the take over so than it becomes luck to see if the grims are in the cave. Once they are in it seems that the hold the area for a couple of days and than lose to one of the other groups. Just my observation.

Actually, thats the Hollowshade War. Its an always on event. Every once in a while, one of the 3 factions attacks the other. If the attackers get past the defenders into the main camp (usually with players' help), then the attackers gain control of the area.

Word on EQDiva is that they have nerfed the Lute and it is now no better than the combine lute.

This is dropped by Gnurn No Eyes, a rare grimling in Hollowshade Moor. You have to manipulate the War so that the grimlings take over the sonic wolf cave. Then you must kill the grimling tribal leader until Gnurn No Eyes spawns in his place. This guy's loot table isn't small, I know of at least 4 items he may drop. Least you might be able to get the nice 5 wis earring while you wait for drum.
Lute
# Oct 23 2002 at 12:29 PM Rating: Decent
Actually, the Orcish Lute of Singing comes of a named orc in CB too, thats where I got mine from.
Not sure if its supposed to or not since these quests require a drop from each expansion, but I did get the Lute in the old world. /shrug

I've only seen Sarialyn's lute (for the final part of the wood elf bard noobie quests) drop from the Scoutsman.

Aye, the drop tables were screwed up a bit in the first few weeks of PoP.
Reward

Posting on eqDiva (bard site) has it that this is the reward:

Fine Antique Amice
MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM NO DROP
Slot: SHOULDERS
AC: 7
DEX: +5 CHA: +5
Focus Effect: Enhancement Haste II
Weight: 3.0 Size: SMALL
Class: ALL
Race: ALL

# Nov 03 2002 at 6:25 PM Rating: Decent
Fine Antique Amice is confirmed.

Just done this quest out of pure boredom and curiousity to see if it would actually give a different item. But alas, it gave me this cloak once again. No use to me.

Bummer.
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 23 2002 at 3:25 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Gawd, I hope that's not the reward for all 4 of those items. The SS Drums aren't really that bad alone, and having to hand in those drums plus 3 other items for that POS? No thanks...
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 23 2002 at 2:28 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Gee... a bard quest where the reward has a focus effect. Oh wait, focus effects don't help bards. Nice work, thanks.

i have to aggree with cmosh. In no way whatsoever is this a bard quest. The point to this quest is that it is NOT a bard quest, and as cmosh already said, it is a way for casters to make use of useless instruments. Personally, from the stats, I would say this one is geared more toward enchanters, who need the charisma, and have lots of buffs, for which the haste is nice.
RE: Reward
# Oct 31 2002 at 1:55 AM Rating: Decent
Actually, Flowing Thought Focus items DO work for bards. In fact, FT is the only way bards can increase their pathetic med abilities!

Hard to get or just plain expensive, but worth it if you find yourself sitting for an hour to med to full.
RE: Reward
# Dec 27 2002 at 4:22 AM Rating: Decent
erm, flowing thought will work for bards, but flowing thought is an effect, not a focus effect. And this item doesn't have flowing thought... ??

I'm wondering what faction adjustments one gets for killing the Meeda Hune Clan.
RE: Reward
# Oct 24 2002 at 12:33 AM Rating: Good
Just wanted to make a comment about this, no where does it say this is a bard quest, nor does it say you will be rewarded with a bard item, it's just a normal quest, if you really think about it why would a bard do this quest when it is three decent instruments, but for another class that has no use for the instruments and can use the focus effect it would be good.

If you are a bard thinking about doing this quest. Let me just mention that Lute of the Howler is a 2.1 mod to string songs, Kelin's seven string from PoH is a 2.4 mod, and then there's this lute which is a 2.5 mod to strings. I'm expecting a nerf on this, But I almost think they would've nerfed it by now.

Yep. It's nerfed now.
