The whole point to this quest for me was to pass some time, and get a nice reward. However, finding Lego Marais seems to be a bit of a daunting task. Now I am hearing he is killable by Zelniaks? That is a very poor idea for a quest. As a Paladin for me to do the quest I must go from Katta - Tenebrous - Grimling - Hollowshade - Shar Vahl - Shadeweaver - Plane of Knowledge - Nexus - Netherbain - Marus Seru. If Marais is KoS to mobs, and is incapable of defending himself, I can imagine he would be dead before I reached Hollowshade Moor.
For me part of the fun of questing is allowing yourself to be immersed in the story line, and to allow it to develop as such. Kinda defeats the purpose when you have a friend standing by in another zone waiting for him to pop.
Can anyone confirm that he only pops when someone talks to the Corporal? Or is he purely random?

That reminds me, I will have to check in with Corporal Donfeld and see how his new project is going.' You say, 'What about Corporal Donfeld?' Erikal Wolfeye says 'Corporal Donfeld has a very important job to do for me- reaching out and trying to make new allies is crucial to our future here on Luclin.' You say, 'Hail, Corporal Donfeld' Corporal Donfeld says 'Oh yes, hello there. I am sorry to be so short, but Governor Erikal had asked me to investigate the Recuso and... well, the going has been slow as of yet.' You say, 'What about the Recuso?' Corporal Donfeld says 'The Recuso are a delitescent people that wander the lands outside Sanctus Seru. They do not have the most open society, so gathering information on them has been tricky. We have reason to believe that they are quite hostile towards Seru and therefore our potential allies- the enemy of my enemy is my friend and all of that. To learn more about them, it was decided we send someone in to try to blend into their society, but he is more than a week past due checking in and we can spare no one to go after him.' You say, 'I will go after him.' If your faction standing with Validus Custodus is "high aimiable" or better: Corporal Donfeld says 'It is quite the journey, are you sure that you are up for it? Your best bet would be to start the search in Marus Seru where the Recuso can be found. Legionnaire Marais had a lead in Shadowhaven as well, but I do not believe it had gotten him anywhere yet. You will need to give him this, he has the other half and will recognize it as a signal that you were sent directly by me. Oh, and let me give you a file to hold your evidence in, do you have room for it, my friend?' He hands you a Torn Half of a Note. The text is fragmentary and refers to Katta and contains no names. You say, 'I have room for the file.' Corporal Donfeld says 'Here, this should do, there may be some extra space in there when you are done. Just put all the evidence you find in it and get it back to me as soon as you can. Best of luck to you, and my thanks as well.' He hands you a Recuso Case File container. You say, 'What about Seru?' Corporal Donfeld says 'I know that to most it seems as though we do not even pay attention to each other anymore, but the silent war between Seru and Katta has never really subsided.' Find Legionnaire Marais in Marus Seru around 200, 300. You say, 'Hail, Legionnaire Marais' Legionnaire Marais looks up at you wearily, 'Corporal Donfeld?' Give him the Torn Half of a Note. Legionnaire Marais shows relief in his eyes, 'I knew someone would come if I... just held out... long enough... Take these... be careful... ' And with that, Marais allows himself to finally die. You are given 2 Marais' Notes ~ upon reading them they talk of killing Regan Ellar for Rifkin. Find Regan Ellar in Sanctus Seru. She spawns in the tavern to the left of the zone and then wanders. You say, 'Hail, Regan Ellar' Regan Ellar says 'Greetings, ______,' as she fiddles absently with the ring on her finger as though it were a gift from someone who meant a great deal to her... You say, 'Do you miss Rifkin?' Regan Ellar spills her drink as you speak, 'Umm, who? I do not know anyone by that...' she trails off, unable to find the words. 'He... he failed the question. I didn't have anything to do with it, why would you ask me? On second thought, never mind, I would really rather not talk about it thank you very much. Good day to you ______.' After you kill her, loot a Promise Ring (identifies as "for those truly in love."). Find Rifkin in Shadow Haven, directly straight of the bazaar zone. You say, 'Hail, Rifkin' Rifkin glowers at you dubiously as though wondering what it is your tombstone might say. You say, 'Marais sent me.' Rifkin's head snaps in your direction, 'Do you have my ring? No? Then quit your yammering!' Hand him the Promise Ring. Rifkin says 'Aye, this is it, did you kill her? Well anyway, here, I really didn't want this anymore- I was hoping some fool would give me something of value for it. Thanks.' You are given Rifkin's Diary - sealed (identifies as "magically sealed closed"). Combine Rifkin's Diary and both of Marais' Notes in the Recuso Case File to craft Recuso File - Closed. Hand Corporal Donfeld the Recuso File - Closed. Corporal Donfeld says 'Outstanding work, ______ - Marais' sacrifice will not be in vain. It seems the Recuso are not the potential allies we had hoped for, but once I get someone from the Magus Conlegium to open this book it should prove educational indeed. In a silent war, learning the secrets of your adversary is paramount. This belt honors one of our finest heroes, wear it proudly for the service you have done the Validus Custodus.' WOW!! Thanks so much to Lobelia for her help. I had druid and BL in zone. BL pet up ready to protect him, Druid tracking from known loc. He popped "WAY" aways from the loc. He was at n1470, p366 where she was camping. I talked her into guarding him for me till I got there, and she assisted like any kind citizen of Norrath would :).
Seems he has random spawn locs at each Recuso camp. Not sure on timer, probably around 1hr, but the Zelniaks will make short order of him without someone around to protect him. Well, off to get my belt now :) Thanks again Lobelia.

Can a lvl 37 wizard easily do this quest? Also what are the faction hits and how bad are the hits?

Regan is near the entrance to SSeru from Mons Letalis, she can be pulled from inside the bar with snare. You take the ring she drops and give it to Rifkin in Shadowhaven and he gives you his sealed diary. You put it in the file with the two pages of notes, and combine, ending with a sealed file. You give that to Corporal Donfeld and he gives you a Belt of Galion, Magic/Lore, All/All. AC:8, Str:4, Dex:3 Agi:3, Sv fire cold and Magic, 5, Wt 3.0
Any idea what level and class Regan is?

Tenia, Leg Marais is in MSeru, not Katta. He was laying on the ground, at about 993, 156. I tracked him.. was very close to Reothe's camp. I handed him the note from Donfeld, and he gave me hs Notes before he died.
So, what is next? hehe

Found Regan near the bar closest to Dawnshroud entrance, she was easy enough for a 56 Druid but when I pulled her i got a guard as an add, so be careful.
As for that fool in MSeru, if I get my hands on him I am going to kill him myself.

I went to the spot indicated in MSeru with a tracker... he wasnt there... waited for 4 hours... went back to Katta and re-did the Donfeld bit, in the hope that this would spawn Marais... zipped back to MSeru... waited another 2 hours... nothing... even got tracker to run around a bit, ooc'd etc :/
Also I can't find Regan in SS, anyone have a loc for him?

Having same problem, I stationed myself at said loc near Reothe camp, while partner did dialouge with Corporal Donfeld and never saw Legionnaire spawn or on track, and thought this would be easy. <smacks himself on the forehead>
He's KOS to all the monsters in the zone, so if you aren't quick he will die by a wandering mob unfortunatly.

Before Legonnaire Marais "dies" he handed me two notes. It mentions Rifkin in SH and Regan in SS. Need to kill Regan for a ring that he had stole from Rifkin. Will update more as I move on this quest :)

Waited 5 hours for Legionnaire Marais to pop in Katta, with no sign. Is he there or in Shadowhaven, that part of the text seems a bit ambigous.
