This quest starts in Jaggedpine Forest, and is given by Annous Pineshadow, a white robed human near one of the camp fires, once you've attained Ally faction with the Jaggedpine Folk.

    You say, 'Hail, Annous Pineshadow'

Annous Pineshadow closes his eyes and gives a deep bow of his head in formal greetings, 'Good day to you, Orolmy. I am Annous Pineshadow, high priest of The Rainkeeper and ambassador of Qeynos. It has been a [long] time since I last set foot within the Jaggedpine, and although not surprised, I am amazed and awestruck at the untouched purity of these sacred grounds. It is very much a relief to know that the forest has been sparred the taint of the venomous world that has become Norrath.'

You say, 'How long has it been?'

Annous Pineshadow gives a gentle chuckle as he conjures his most fond of memories, 'Sixty years -- give or take. This is the place of my birth and my home. When I had come of age, I ventured to Qeynos to learn the ways of the priest, finding myself lost in the ways of the druid. I adore the nature that Karana sustains, but I had always felt myself more suited for the path of preservation and servitude of the faith. When his majesty, Antonious III sealed the Jaggedpine, I was among those who were asked to remain behind in Qeynos. Only the druids and rangers of Karana remained in the Jaggedpine -- it was important to preserve only the bare minimum and we understood the need. We also did not wish to have our culture be entirely cut off and those who remained outside of the forest's confines were there to continue the faith and [sacred ways] of The Rainkeeper.'

You say, 'What sacred ways do you speak of?'

Annous Pineshadow says 'There are hundreds of different rites, ceremonies, prayers, and rituals that are performed in one's devotion to The Rainkeeper. Many of these can be as simple as the performance of a duty, as a druid would protect their forest, while some may be as complex and consuming as a several day ceremony to usher in the changing seasons. Aaaah. . . but there is truly so much that in the time that's left for me here could not give proper justice for in my explanations -- nor do I believe that you would truly understand them by simply listening. You must [have the faith in your heart] and you must truly wish to uphold the ways of the Rainkeeper and do so to truly understand.''

You say, 'I have faith in my heart.'

Annous Pineshadow says 'I would not dare challenge that, my friend, but is your faith strong enough to withstand the greatest of consequences -- even the sacrifice of your own life in remaining true to that faith? Aaaah. . . but such is a question that cannot be merely asked and simply answered in words. One truly does not discover one's self until they are faces with the reality of such tests of faith. Perhaps, if [you are willing], I might guide you on a path that may lead to the discovery of such answers.''

You say, 'I am willing to test my faith.'

Annous Pineshadow says 'Excellent, child. I am pleased to know that you are willing to go so far as to test your faith -- but do so not to me, or to anyone other than yourself and The Rainkeeper, else you shall find only a hollow shadow of the answers you seek, and a great void of disappointment. If you prove successful in your own eyes by completing this task, then you shall be among The Rainkeeper's sacred order of priests -- The Gale Weavers. Druids and Clerics alike make up this order, for our dedication is mutual in strength and our ultimate duties to The Rainkeeper are parallel. The first journey that you must embark on will result in the acquisition of the [Azure Idol of Karana] -- an ancient item that each of The Gale Weavers possess.''

You say, 'What is an Azure Idol of Karana?'

Annous Pineshadow says 'When the order was first founded by the Hierophant known as Tanirun Galeweaver, he bestowed upon all of his brethren a sacred idol carved by his own hands. It is said that when Tanirun blessed the Shrine of Karana with his gift of the storm, that the remaining essence of Karana's witness was divided among the idols. In the passing times, the idols were handed down when an old member passed beyond into the Eye of Karana's Storm and a new member was inducted in their predecessor's memory and honor. You will seek one of these idols -- one that at present has no owner and was stolen by the bandit raiders and return it to me. The man who possesses the idol is one known as Drayen Blackguard -- a member of the dreaded Blackguard family that has taken recent residence in the forest. You shall find him in the mountains of Rathe if our scouts are correct.''

Find and kill Drayen Blackguard at the bandit camp in Rathe Mountains and loot (immune to changes in run speed): Azure Idol of Karana.

Give the Azure Idol of Karana to Annous Pineshadow.

Annous Pineshadow says 'Marvelously done, my friend. The idol's return by your hand bodes well indeed toward the success of your quest. Now, it shall remain without a hand to possess it -- but in time, perhaps, it may find a suitable possessor in you. If [you wish to prove yourself worthy] of the idol and further prove your faith as notable enough to belong to the sacred order of The Gale Weavers, then speak your pledge and your test shall continue.''

You say, 'I wish to prove myself worthy'

Annous Pineshadow says 'Then your endeavor shall continue, my child. Take this scroll -- to you now it holds no meaning but in due time you shall understand. Keep the scroll close to you until you have sought and successfully acquired the [Dormant Crystal Sphere] and [The Rainkeeper's Writ].'

    You receive: Ancient White Scroll.

You say, 'What is a dormant crystal sphere?'

Annous Pineshadow says 'There are several magical spheres throughout Norrath but this sphere is [unique to The Rainkeeper]. It is said that when Karana blessed this area with his first storm in acceptance of the nomadic tribe that would settle here, that the droplets of rain left upon the pines and blades of grass was gathered by one of these nomads and stored in a plain clay jar that was then buried as a symbol of their own gratitude toward the storm. Nearly a century later when Karana's Shrine and the Throne of Karana's Thunder were near completion, one known as Tanirun Galeweaver found the jar. The water was still inside, preserved by means unexplainable through simple reason. It is said that Tanirun poured the water into his own hands and wove a spell, sealing the wind within the orb of this ancient rain that was now crystallized by Tanirun's spell.''

You say, 'How is it unique to the Rainkeeper?'

Annous Pineshadow says 'Tanirun's orb was used to make the first symbol that to this day is wielded by the members of the sacred order. His effects were duplicated by the first order and each bore an orb identical to Tanirun's. These orbs, as the idols, were passed down from member to member. As with the idol, we held an orb that had no bearer. However, before the Jaggedpine was sealed, the orb disappeared. We are not certain as to how or why, but we do know that if it lies within the hands of one who is not of Karana's faithful priests, it shall become dormant until awoken. I have heard rumors, distant whispers upon the wind and storm that the orb lies within the depths of Solusek's Eye -- nestled in the hands of a giant known as Neiroth the Tyrant. Find this ancient giant and retrieve the orb from him.''

Find and kill Neiroth, a named Fire Giant in the room people describe as the Lord Nagafen 'prep' room and loot: Dormant Crystal Sphere.

You say, 'What can you tell me of the Rainkeeper's Writ?'

Annous Pineshadow says ''When the order of The Gale Weavers was established, Tanirun and his brethren of the order constructed a sacred writ similar to a spell, but it cannot be invoked at the priest's whim. Like the storm, it is chaos. When the words are spoken, the elements of the storm will come as they wish, when they wish. This writ was used to conjure the essence of the storm into the orbs, creating the mirror of a sky where a storm rages eternally. The writ was lost to us sometime before the Jaggedpine was sealed. One known as Naundruar, a former high priest of our order, took the writ. He was furious, enraged that the order had been asked to divide and leave our sacred homeland. None are ultimately certain what horrible fate befell him, for his hatred toward Qeynos had infected his being like an incurable disease. In the southern plain of Karana you will find the remnants of this once great priest and with him, you shall find the writ.'''

Find and kill Sir Nandruar, a Giant Skeleton in South Karana and loot: The Rainkeeper's Writ.

You hand The Rainkeeper's Writ to Annous Pineshadow
You hand Dormant Crystal Sphere to Annous Pineshadow
You hand Ancient White Scroll to Annous Pineshadow

Annous Pineshadow says 'You have done well, my child. The ancient scroll has impressed upon it a small mirror of your faith. As it was with you through your travels, the runes have changed to reflect your own heart and what lies within it. I have woven for you the Orb of the Gale -- your Orb of the Gale, but do not think that your journey ends here. It is still hollow -- the winds are dormant and the clouds lie in wait. Their lifeblood is missing, and you must seek it. To do this, you must venture to the realm where the Gale thrives -- the Plane of Sky. There are ethereal creatures known as Gale Weavers that dwell there. You must extinguish their temporary tangible form and from that, take the essence of the Gale that they have woven. Do not feel remorse for destroying these planar creatures, for you do not truly destroy them. Once you have obtained the Essence of the Gale, place it into the orb and seal it, creating the Orb of the Gale that must be returned to me.''

Combine the Essence of the Gale in the Dormant Gale Stone (no other items required):

You have fashioned the items together to create something new! [ Orb of the Gale ]

You give Orb of the Gale to Annous Pineshadow.

Annous Pineshadow says 'You astound me, my child. Well done indeed, and I am very pleased to know that you have been successful in these endeavors. It is an honor to bestow upon you this, our sacred symbol, and welcome you into the order of The Gale Weavers. Bear it proudly, but do not flaunt pride. Keep your sacred duties to The Rainkeeper first and foremost in your thoughts and actions -- the Gale Weaver shall guide you when you need guidance most, and it shall protect you when your time for failure has not yet come. The idol shall remain with me, where I shall bury it at the Shrine of Karana in honor of your coming into our ranks. When the time comes for you to pass beyond, it shall be unearthed by another who has taken my place as high priest of our order, for I will likely have passed into the Eye of Karana's Storm before your final day.''

I finished this quest last night. My Halfling druid now proudly sports this item.

The 1st piece I picked up was the Essence of the Gale, because I was in PoSky and we the Gale Caller. Since there were no Druids on the raid, I looted it (My Mage looted it anyway).

The next 2 items were easy: the Rainkeepers Writ and the Azure Idol can be soloed by a lvl 61+ mage.

The last piece, the Dormant Crystal Sphere was a bit harder, as you have to clear all the fire giants up to Naggy (Including King Tranix) to get to the named giant. While this is possible for a lvl 65 mage to solo playing pet cleric, It's better to take a few people with you. I took the studly route and soloed it anyway; I have the pet focus augment (DPoC) from North Ro.

I had to do a lot of faction work before the turn in, but killing the Gnolls and Poachers was easy and the Gnoll Cainine quest really sped things up.

My Druid carries this in his clickie bag of tricks. There is a casting time for this effect (not an instant-click) which is about 5 seconds.

    Quest walkthrough
    # Apr 06 2003 at 3:42 AM Rating: Excellent
I just completed this quest today at lvl 55. The walkthrough is as follows.

Ally faction is needed in jaggedpine for this quest to be given. Kill poachers and you will get that quick.

I suggest getting all the quest drops first then go and talk to Annous and do turn ins.

Azure idol drops in Rathe mountains off blackguard at bandit camp. Camp is towards middle of zone. Head straight from feerott and then left, you will see him on track. He can be single pulled but is immune to snare/root. I pulled him with WD and had my lvl 55 druid pet tank him. His aggro will change to you instantly, simple move to the bottom of the hill and run inbetween the hill and another bandit camp nearby. You wont get bandit aggro and the space gives you enough time to keep doting the mob. After about 5 WDs and various other dots he dropped with no prob.

Dormant spear is another story. I got this on a naggy raid. Follow the strategy of a naggy raid through the fire giants and you can easily get this drop off neiroth.

The named skele in south karana is a bit tricky, believe it or not he is soloable. Dont bother getting a pet, he will die in one hit. Sir Nandruar's pet is a huge overcon (dark blue to 55). Two WDs and a nuke and he was toast. Neither mobs can be snared nor rooted. You need to keep your distance from Sir Nandruar, he has some nasty dots and will take u down fast. Pull his pet and run like mad. Kite pet around till it dies. Most likely Nandruar will not chase you as closely as pet will. Nandruar likes to stop for some stupid reason very frequently. This gave me time to med up and to keep doting him from a distance without being doted by him. If you see him beginning to cast, run like mad and you will probably become oor before his spell sticks. He has TONS of hps, I'd say at around 15k maybe 20 but I dont think so. I got him down to 35% and then got help from a guildy, but at the rate I was going this mob can be soloed if distance is kept. I strongly recommend that if you are a druid, buff up like mad and get c3/Aego before you try to solo this mob.

Next is A Gale Caller in plane of sky. He spawns on 4th island and is one of the easiest mobs in the game to kill. Most likely you will be on a POA raid when you encounter this mob, and if your force got to the 4th island they can easily take down this mob.

Now that you have all the drops go do turn in. Effect is a decent regen but has limited use. If you attack or get hit with it on it will disappear. It also does not stack with other regens. Its got great potential for Ressurection situations or situations involving low mana.

There arent too many Karana druid quests in the game and I have to say unless you just happen to get one of these drops on a raid I wouldnt just embark on this quest. I myself got the Neiroth drop at lvl 46 and didnt get rest of the drops until 55 so this is a long involved quest unless you have peeps who can help.

Hope I helped, if so RATE MY POSTS!!

Neiroth is a Fire Giant in Solusek B - aka Lord Nagafen's Lair, he spawns on the right hand side in the room primarily used to prep for Naggy raids.

Access to Plane of Sky (not Plane of Air - even though /who reports there are x people in airplane) is gained by grouping with a lvl 46+ wizard who uses the Alter Plane: Sky spell which uses a reagent called Cloudy Stone of Veeshan

Just solo'd Drayden as a 56 drood. Dont use breath of Karana. I wasted a lot of mana b4 I realized it doesn't work. Switched to scorae and the old run and nuke. Ran out of mana when he was down to 5% health. Took a good 3 min to finish him with my scimi. PS Im inpressed with the drood that solo'd Sir Nandruar. I plan on bringing help for him.

Well, the only two parts I didn't solo was the pegasus in Plane of Sky, and the Fire Giant in SolB, I didn't know anything about the mobs when I did the quest, but honestly didn't think there was anything difficult about any of the other mobs to be done other than solo.

anyone have any specific info on the re-spawn times of the skelly in SK and bandit in RM? we(3 druids 54,53,51) killed Sir Nandruar lastnight (2 of us went down ) and then after rezzes went and got Drayen Blackguard who was fairly easy compared to Nandruar. is the named firegiant there every time in SolB

The spawn seems to be 24hrs, that is how long it took for Sir Nandruar to come back after a mage friend and I killed him. And the above part is wrong ***Gale Caller Gives No Apparent Faction Hits**. Killed him last night and we had no problem continuing through the Plane. I also don't see how you could MQ the Essence of the Gale since you must combine in a container. Thanks to Evolutia Draconis for letting me attend their raid of PoA, lucky for me there are not too many Karana dru/clr about.

    plane of air part
    # Sep 02 2002 at 3:17 PM Rating: Decent
All of this seems doable....not easy, but doable....by just using my 60 ranger and hydra 60 druid..except maybe the plane of air portion...I don't have a guild at the moment...can anyone think of a way to do that part with just the the 2 chars? Please remember that these chars are hydraed...and of course can't be used to full potential.....my major concern is how to get to the Gale Caller in the first place.

Best to hold off on this part of quest until after you finish epic. not sure how this affects clerics but if you do the Poa part you can probably kiss epic goodbye because faction will be $#^%!.
If it wasnt for the effect I would ignore this quest and go straight for shield of bane but this makes for an excellent substitute and not all that hard.

What does the Plane of Air have to do with the Cleric Epic? There are no Planar parts of of the Epic Quest unless the quest has been changed. The Cleric epic is part of a struggle between the Tyrant of Fire and the Triumverate of the Waters.

I read somwhere that Druids and Jaggedpine Treefolk are on the same faction. This is not true, me being a 45 druid with "warmly" faction in druid guilds I am only "amiable" with the Jaggedpine Treefolk. I have been searching desperatly on how to improve factions to do this quest maybe someone can help me out here. Drixsoar Menosow, 45, Karana Druid

Kill Gnolls, Gnolls and more Gnolls.

Throw in a few poachers for good measure,

Based on my experience it is JaggedPine Residents faction that the quest giver is on. I had killed many, many gnolls and gotten to warmly getting all the possible JP faction pluses. While killing poachers last night I was only getting Jaggedpine Residents pluses and Pirates of JaggedPine minus and this morning I was Ally to the quest giver.

As I already have the items from SK, RM and SolB it will only be a short time until I can get to PoA to complete this.

Kill Gnolls in Jaggedpine for faction, turn in the canines to Segreant C at the village for more faction. 8-10hours of killing should be enought to get ally.

Does anyone have any info on the NPC? Level and class or tactics to use. I see hes immund to snare type spells. Maybe since hes in a bandit camp hes just a melee type.

Just got ally faction so really looking foreward to starting this quest.

Will keep you updated on the mobs as i kill them.

We killed Drayen today, he went down easy to a group of 7 mid 50s.

I couldnt land any spells (stuns or dmg shields) but our 58 wizard had no trouble landing his DD.

Drayen in purely Melee and had no tricks or surprises for us.

Just finished soloing this guy in south karanas..have to say this has been one of the tougher solos i have run across. Was a 25 to 30 minute kite back and forth across the plains as this guy cannot be rooted and/or snared...at least i got the movement message when i tried rooting him and he resisted my snares.

I be glad that the movement penalty for dots are gone.

This guy is a lvl 51 52 necro who has a low level sow and a lot of hit points, and can cast quite a number of spells...and it does cast them. I am only a lvl 57 halfling drood but i have 252 wis plus around 400 additional mana. I had no clarity on but i do have the earring of xanthe and form of the howler on.

This was not the first time i had tried to battle him so my strategy was to just dot, run ahead and sit. I did have aego on which helped considerably but i also put on all resists (fire, cold, magic, disease, and poison) plus regrowth plus bladecoat and strength.

I do not have my epic nor am i sure it would work on this mob as he resists snare but i do have winged death and an es vambrace so making sure i had memmed egress i tracked him down and the battle began. I casted winged death on it and the battle began. I found a nice flat span of ground to kite this one back and forth. This skeletor wannabe is pretty fast but form of the howler is faster and will allow you to outrun him...but you dont want to run too far ahead as he will lose interest in you and drift off, in the meantime regenning his health. This happened to me once during the battle and he regenned 1 red bub of health rather quickly.

He hits for around 140 a pop (at least to me he did) and will stop to cast a number of spells such as ignite blood, boil blood, insidious retrogression, some dd for 550 hp, paralyzing earth and god only knows what other ones he tried on me. My resists were in the 80's and probably blocked 90 percent of it's spells.

I would run ahead and sit and medd while having my overhead view zoomed all the way back. you dont want to let this guy get too close so be prepared to start running as soon as you see him stop to start casting. I kept using this routine while casting my dots..you will have to get to max casting distance (or greater) so that you have time to cast your dots, he is almost fast enough to get to you before you are done casting (or you might want to pick up some focus items to increase casting speed).

The mob does have a small regen, which drove me nuts as i had down to less than 20% health for a long while...i was down to less than 10% mana and this mob will keep coming till he is about 2% health. Thank god for ES vambrace dots.

I did also cast scoriea a couple of times and they both landed for my max of 688 so i dont think the mob is fire resistant. I did not try frost on it so i cant tell you about cold resist.

I must say this was one of the more enjoyable kites (and not too scarey as i could outrun him if need be or cast egress) I have had in quite some time...it seems the preparation, spellwise, was ok but if i had gotten KEI beforehand i prob would have taken him down sooner.

I can vouch for this strategy. I just killed Sir Nandruar by myself a little while ago, and I'm just barely into level 58. Yes, he is immune to changes in movement speed, so no snare and no root. This makes for a pretty long and tricky kite.

With about 185 unbuffed wisdom, I kited him around this way using only Winged Death... got his health down far enough for him to think about running away... but it was just a trick, he stopped and hit me with Cascading Darkness (which killed Form of the Howler) and proceeded to beat me down fast.

So, after I died, I gated to the Nexus, got Koadic's Endless Intellect, and ran back out to South Karana to kill this guy for good. Same basic strategy, only this time I actually put on some resistance buffs before hand... but surprisingly, they didn't really do anything for me. The reason is because Sir Nandruar is a level 51-52ish necromancer... so all of his most powerful spells that he tries to cast on you take a very long time to cast, generally around 6 seconds. Because it took him so long to cast any of his powerful spells, I had time to cast Winged Death and run out of his spell range before he could finish casting. He didn't even get a spell to land on me until he was almost dead, and I was moving in to finish him off. I resisted Envenomed Bolt (which is a good thing, because I would have probably died if that spell had hit me), but he managed to get Ignite Blood on me before I could bring him down. I started off the kite using Winged Death and Breath of Ro, to burn him down faster, but after mana started getting low and he resisted the fire dot a couple times, I just decided to take my time and use the spell that wouldn't bounce off. At the end, I did cast Frost on him a couple times, and it hit for full damage both times.

Yes, it is possible to solo him, pretty much the same way I killed Drayen Blackguard, but if you have a few friends that will come to help you, it's probably much safer just to kill these quest mobs with a group.

This ******* roots....i repeat...this ******* roots. Tried him out with myself(55druid) and a 53monk friend of mine. No clue who this guy was, but boredom made us go try and kill em :) Being resistant to movement spells and a necro no less immediately turned this fight into a 30min epic "chase the treehugger" kite. Had him down to 20percent and after countless resists, the ******* finally rooted me and proceeded to kill me real quick like, leaving the monk to feign and tell me how that sucked, LOL.
