Oracle Jaarl judges you amiably -- it appears to be quite formidable.

    You say, 'Hail, Oracle Jaarl'

Oracle Jaarl shakes his body and his countless necklaces cause a loud rattle to echo off the stone walls. 'Hello Frostpipes. Have you come to [worship] or have you just come for a visit to view our wonderful architecture and to [pay your respects].'

You say, 'I will pay your respects'

Oracle Jaarl says 'You have, well then! You can pay your respects by bringing me a [present].'

    You say, 'what present'

Oracle Jaarl says 'I like necklaces. I wear necklaces made from every kind of beast. The power of the beast is contained within each necklace. The more necklaces I wear, the greater my power! Bring me a Bear Fang Necklace, a Wolf Fang Necklace and a Panther Fang Necklace. This will show your devotion to the temple. Then perhaps I can do you a [favor].'

    You say, 'what favor'

Oracle Jaarl says 'I see that you truly respect our temple and more importantly, myself. Since I have great power and you have given me many gifts, I am willing to give you a gift if you are skilled in the ways of the [mystic] or the [heretic].'

You say, 'i am skilled in the ways of the heretic'

Oracle Jaarl says 'I can make a weapon for you, one that you may use to curse your enemies with terrible illness. I require several items. The shaft of the weapon will be made from a Treant Finger. I shall cover the shaft in Griffon Down and affix a Griffon Skull to the top. Finally, I shall need a Diseased Bear Liver with which to imbue the staff with its terrible magic.'

You say, 'where do I get a diseased bear liver'

Oracle Jaarl says, 'The best person to talk to about that would be that human. I believe he calls himself Farkus Grime. He passes through here now and then and he seems to be fascinated with disease. Perhaps he could help you with that.'

You say, 'where do I get griffon down'

Oracle Jaarl says, 'I imagine you could find one of those from a Griffon.'

    You say, 'what griffon skull'

Oracle Jaarl says, 'I imagine you could find one of those from a Griffon.'

    You say, 'Treant Finger'

Oracle Jaarl says, 'I doubt a treant would willingly hand over his finger. Remember, the older the treant the stronger the shaft of the weapon will be.'

Farkus Grime can be found at the zone in of Jaggedpine.

    You say, 'Diseased bear liver'

Farkus Grime clenches his teeth and speaks in a quiet but deadly tone, 'Keep your voice down you fool, mention of such a thing around here is dangerous! I'm always willing to help someone who shares the same... philosophy... as myself though. Are you [truly serious] about this?

    You say, 'truly serious'

Farkus Grime says, 'Very well, follow me and we'll have a little chat then.'

Farkus will lead you east of his spawn through some trees before beginning more dialogue.

Farkus Grime says, 'You nearly blew my cover back there you idiot. Still, I shall overlook your transgression.'

Farkus Grime says, 'I had not pegged you as one allied with the Plaguebringer, may his blessing once again spread across the land.'

Farkus Grime says, 'So you wish for me to defile one of these so-called 'sacred' bears for you? I'm not sure what vile ritual you would need this liver for but I'd be delighted to assist you.'

Farkus Grime says, 'However, before I do this thing for you there's something I need for you to do for me to show your loyalty. And to help me to settle an outstanding score of course.'

Farkus Grime says, 'I want you to assassinate a Qeynos guard by the name of Nash. He has been a thorn in our side for some time. Bring me his head and I shall defile one of these bears for you.'

  • Guard Nash roams through Qeynos Hills, kill him and loot his head then return it to Farkus Grime.

(Note: this turnin seems to be quite buggy, I was only able to get it to work once and attempting to do it again resulted in the bear not spawning or spawning but not dropping the bear liver)

Farkus Grime says, 'You've done well, I see we are of a like mind. I'll lure the bear outside so you can do your work.'

Farkus will spawn "a docile bear" then lead it and you north of the zonein for a bit, follow him.

Farkus Grime holds a bit of food out to the bear cub, 'Want it?'

Farkus Grime says, 'Follow me then little bear'

Farkus Grime gives the bear the tainted food.

Farkus Grime says, 'The disease within this food acts very quickly. The bear should be maddened by the illness shortly and his liver suitable for harvest.'

  • At this point the bear should attack you and drop the Diseased Bear Liver, if you kill it prior to this I had it not drop the liver.

  • Hand Oracle Jaarl the three necklaces you got from Snarla from finishing the Snarla's Friendship quest.

Oracle Jaarl puts the necklaces around his neck as his body shakes, causing the various bits and pieces of bone and tooth to clatter loudly. 'Ah yes! I feel the power flowing through me, I am ever closer to the spirit world! I thank you for your devotion to the temple!'

Your faction standing with Anchorites of Brell Serilis has been adjusted by 100.

Amiably (100) is not enough faction for him to discuss the "favor".

The second part of this should be a separate quest. Oracle Jaarl's Favor. This part of the quest text should be moved up to where the questor would say 'What favor' and get no response if they didn't have enough faction for the next quest.

Had to add an edit for the part to be moved up...

As previously posted, the necklaces 'present' for Oracle Jaarl should probably be a separate quest from the 'favor' for Oracle Jaarl.

For the 'favor', you need approximately 200 faction (mid amiably) with Anchorites of Brell Serilis. Telling him that you are a 'skilled mystic' (shaman) or a 'skilled heretic' (necro) gets you the same response.

    Faction:
-50 (mid apprehensively) = your starting faction with Anchorites of Brell Serilis.
+20 Dryad Pate quest with Snarla
+10 Bear Necklace quest #1 with Snarla

Is the turn in for the Diseased Bear Liver related to Oracle Jaarl and the 3 necklaces? It seems like these are separate quests.

I didn't even notice the necklace subsection of this quest. Upon examining, that part appears to be a repeatable faction increaser step where turning in the necklaces will give you enough faction to then proceed with the "favor" dialogue which I bypassed using a bard faction song.

The final text when he gives you the Rod of Ulceration is as such:

Oracle Jaarl says, 'Very well. These will do just fine. Here, it is finished. Take this and smite your enemies with terrible disease.'

There is no faction hit on the final turnin.

The docile bear will start making feinting attacks at Farkus Grime before Farkus walks off and the bear will take a step or two after him. It will de spawn at this point and a 'a defiled bear' will spawn. It conned level 40.

I forgive you Bobby for not completing your observations.

    Hello everyone

I play over on eqmac server and I got curious about this quest. So i did the regular version. same reward as listed here.

Thiers the part were he say the list of components he will need to make the rod. when you ask him what treant finger he says"I doubt a treant would willingly hand over his finger. Remember , the older the treant the stronger the shaft of the weapon will be.

The last segment made me think that maybe he is referring to the Ancient treant branch. So i started grinding away jagged till one day boom i got the ancient treant.

I had all the other component banked except the griffon down so went on griffon killing rampage 126 griffon later finaly get down.

Run over to oracle hand in al 4 item HE GAVE THE ANCIENT TREANT BRANCH back to me said "he didnt need it"

The Treant Finger dropped off a regular Treant (a Treant) in JPF for me last night. I was able to finally finish this quest.

It's not the best staff in the game, but it is decent, and it has a different graphic that I had not yet seen.

    Rod of Ulceration

The reward for this quest is indeed a necro/shaman 1HB weapon called the Rod of Ulceration.

    Rod of Ulceration
    Slot: Primary
    Skill: 1H Blunt
    DMG: 12 DLY: 32
    Disease DMG: +4 Mana: +35
    SvDisease: +10 SvPoison: +10
    recommended level 35.

I believe I am the first to take the time to complete it on Mith Marr.

I began by killing dryads for their parts, in the area close to the cave with the BB exit. No animals wander close to the wall there, and the dryads are easy to spot and pull. Dryads are trap spawns... they spawn when you walk close to a tree they are "in". Turn on dynamic lighting and you can see a glow around the dryad trees. Fairly good loot from these, and dark blue to me at 55. Collect a bunch of dryad parts (not stackable) and have your favorite baker make pate for you. Benorf gave the correct recipie.

I skipped the necklaces (not wanting bad faction with the Fort) and just gained faction by handing in Dryad Pate to Snarla the Fang. The faction necessary seems to be High amiable, as I was amiable after 12 pates but Jaarl wouldn't give me the quest. At 14 pates he gave me the quest but ate my items (grr). After recollecting the items and turning in 19 total pates I was given the staff.

When you have high enough faction for Jaarl to give you the quest, you can ask him "What (item)?" to get hints on where to find the specific items. He mentions when you ask him "What Treant Finger?" that the power of the staff is dependent on the age of the treant the finger came from... perhaps the Ancient Treants drop another finger resulting in a different staff?

I really enjoyed the part of the quest involving Farkus Grime as well... a good break from the turn in items a b c and d to get item e quests. Rate this one 10/10 in my book.

In order to make the necklaces, you first need to hand Snarla the Fang a Dryad Pate. Handing this to him you will recieve a token of ********** (looks like a bone). Now, everytime you hand this token back to Snarla, you will recieve a 4 slot bag to put necklace peices in.

**Dryad Pate recipe is. Brandy, Dryad Part, foraged Plant Shoot, and Spice combined in a spit (trivial at 190 or so I think)**

Each necklace requires 3 fangs and 1 anaconda skin. Combine then in the bag and hand into Snarla to receive the necklace. Each necklace is no drop and without stats and has 5 charges or either spirit of bear, wolf, or cat (depending on the necklace you make obviously).

Now you can hand 3 the necklaces into the oracle you want. Don't be excited, cause all you get is a faction increase for Brell Gnolls. (so ghey)

now you can try asking for "what favor" from him. Probably won't have enough faction so you can either repeat necklace quest (took me like 9 hours) or you can keep handing in Dryad Pates into Snarla the Fang till you have enough faction (probably just need to hand in 4 times)

now for the sux ending to all this wasted time: ahh, the weapon he will make you. Well, it sux. All items but the infected bear liver drop off respective mobs there in JP. And for the bear liver, you have to travel to Queynos Hills and kill Guard Nash (he's right at zone line to Queynos walking around path, 40ish guard with insane MR) loot his head and return to JP. Now you hand in Nash's head into Farkus (the NPC right at IZ there, and he leads you around back and will coax the bear back there into following him out away from fort. Once bear is away, Farkus will feed him something to make him sick, bear respawns aggro and you kill him to get your infected liver.

after all this you can now receive your sham/necro weapon of sux stats (guessing from memory) NO DROP 1hb 12/32 +35mana, +10sv Disease/Poison.

not worth the effort imho, but the staff at least has a cool graphic. resembles the caster staffs from ToV that have a small dragon head on them.

...i can't remember the name of the Gnoll, but one of them aks you to get him a Dryad Meal.

Kill dryads, until you get dryad meat, then find someone or do it yourself, forage for plant shoot.

combine meat, shoot, spices, brandy in a spit, not trivial at 124 baking and you recieve some +4 wis meal.

give this to the gnoll and you recieve "a token of friendship". give tis right back to him and you get a container, and again the token.

he tells you to get 3 teeth of the same animal, wolf, bear, panther, and 3 anaconda hides.

i dont have those teeth yet, they drop very rare on the animals, and i only saw once an anaconda but only got meat on her.

then you should combine 3 wolf teeth and 1 anaconda hide in the container and giv the container back to the quest gnoll, here i asume you get the necklaces which you then can give to the gnoll oracle

They also uncommonly drop from the poachers - you don't have to kill any of the friendly animals (and ***** up your fort faction) to get the fangs.

these necklaces are obviously made from the no drop teeth...

anyone see what you add to this to make the necklace?

    # Jul 30 2002 at 4:50 PM Rating: Decent
apparently, you give a potameid/dryad pate to the gnoll who wants it, who gives you a bone in return. that bone goes to the oracle, who hands you a bag to make the necklaces in. in the bag, you need 3 teeth of the same animal, and an anaconda skin
