You say, 'Hail, Faratain'

Faratain says 'Salutations Darulius. If you are here to make use of the forges then feel free to pursue your crafts within this chamber. If you are a new Fell Blade in need of a suit of armor and weapon then I will assist you in crafting [armaments] fitting of a young Shadow Knight.'

You say, 'What armaments?'

Faratain says 'You will require this specially prepared Mail Assembly Kit in order to construct a suit of Fell Blade Armor. The materials required vary depending on the piece of armor you desire to craft. Once you have been outfitted in the Fell Blade Armor, return to me and I will present you with a somewhat important [task]. Do you desire to craft a [fell blade helm], a [fell blade bracer], [fell blade gauntlets], [fell blade boots], [fell blade vambraces], [fell blade greaves], or a [fell blade breastplate]?'

You say, 'What fell blade breastplate?'

Faratain says 'To assemble a Fell blade Breastplate you will need to obtain four bricks of crude bronze and smelt them in a forge with a Water Flask and this Crude Breastplate Mold. Once that is done combine the Crude Bronze Breastplate with a Pristine Kobold Pelt, a calcified sternum, and a calcified ribcage in the Mail Assembly Kit.'

Working on this quest now for the second time. Ribcage & sternum are fairly rare drops from the skeletons, mostly it's ulnas, tibias, etc. While there is occasionally "A Skeleton" or two on the south side of the river, they are a really rare spawn. Best bet is to go north of the river, and roam around, hitting the hill in the centre and going down the west coast (Kerran side). There can be as many as five of the needed skeletons roaming at one time, and one in particular spawns up in a tree in the little knob of land in the SW where there's a merchant. When you go past the tree he'll aggro and come after you. Kobold runts are the easiest way to get the pelts, they drop them all, and there is an awful lot of them on the north (Erudin) side of the river. I outfitted my Paineel cleric in only two nights, and after four I have everything but the ribcage for my SK.

Just got ribcage
# Jul 15 2004 at 6:55 PM Rating: Decent
Well I'm a lvl 7 sk and i've been hunting in this zone all day. I just killed my third or fourth skeleton in a couple of hourse and he droped the ribcage. It was during the day to. The other skeletons dropped nothing. This is my first calcified piece btw. Still hunting for the others since this is my first character and have no way of twinking. Hope I get lucky with the other pieces.

It is hard

I've just finished collecting the bones, and it is quite difficult. The only skeletons that drop the bones spawn on the north side of the zone. Generally they will spawn somewhere around the monolith that is east of the Erudin zoneline, on a hill. The main challenge, on Innoruuk anyway, is that there are two of the "an Erudin Emissary" guys running around. These mobs target only the "a skeleton" and some of the kobolds, and they run at SoW speed. So it's very hard to find and kill one of these skeletons before the emissary does.

They always spawn as a pair, sit still for a minute and then start walking away, with about a 30 degree angle between their paths. Quite often, as soon as you kill them both, they will instantly respawn somewhere else. Not always, but very frequently.

Calcified drops fairly often, almost every one in fact, but I'd say the ribcage is farely rare. Usually it's ulnas, legs or skulls.

Good luck if you try this quest. Me, I'm off to the Warrens to see about the pelts. No kobold in Toxx drops them.
FIX THIS !

Nektulos has calcified skellies but, the droprate is so low i'd rather run around toxx using sense dead. Seems that skellies only appear at night in toxx. Nektulos is very hard to get the stuff, lot of competition, and droprate is way too low, Verant should wake friggin up and fix this, damn asses. I dont think they realize how discouraging it is to kill the same mobs for weeks.

whats up?
# Jan 02 2003 at 8:31 PM Rating: Decent
Why in gods name did they make these quests so much harder than the others? Did they feel they needed to discourage people all the more from playing Erudites? After all Erudites already get a bad name. Comon Verant... get a grip.

The Human shadowknights that start in Qeynos have just as hard of a quest as this one. They actually need just as many components for each piece of armor, just wolf pelts instead of kobold, and decaying bones instead of calcified. The drop rate on those bones are just as infrequent as these.

The Heretic Pets do not drop the calcified Bones. The 2 skellies at the entrance to Paineel do not drop the bones. Deacying Skellies do not drop the bones. Elial Brooks' Pet does not drop the Bones. Only A Skeleton. Yes, they are killed by other NPCs. Kobolds, Wandering Erudians. I am getting a port to Nek tomorrw to see if i can get them by the undead monolith there. And Sense the Dead is only partially helpful, since it will target Heretic Pets and The 2 skellies by Paineel Entrance. BTW the Fading Spectre Needed for the petrified Eyeball (for the final Task) can often be found at the kobold camp near the spires, and is NOT detected by Sense the Dead
Bones and Pelts

The calcified bones DO drop off the Skells in Toxx, but the Skells themselves are rare. And they are killed by NPC's and the Kobolds. It's really a bad deal for SK's! Many times a skell has been killed right from under my sword by that roving NPC.

The pelts are off Warren Kobolds and are rare. Most I got were off the Protectors, but have gotten them off others.

Pelts are a rare drop is what im thinking, I have farmed inside the warrens and have found 1, have gotten others from friends that happen to be in there killing for faction. As for the bones, go to Tox and use sense the dead and you will target the closest skele. I have gotten more bones then pelts. I have done the BP and Helm so far. This quest is able to be done, GL my fellow SK's

Kobold Pelts

I haven't seen any hides drop for these quests, after spending hours and hours in the Warrens...just plain Kobold Hides that have always dropped. Not in Toxx either. This is as of Aug 1, 2002. Hopefully next patch will have them.
Calcified Bones?
# Jul 30 2002 at 1:46 AM Rating: Default
I'm wondering if anyone knows what carries the calcified bones? At first I thought it was the bones you collected off of the kobolds in the warrens (for Paineel), but when you use the kobold bones you get the Cleric armour, not the Shadow Knight armour. I've verified this twice to be sure.

Any infor would be extremely helpful. If you feel really friendly, e-mail me at agnostos_idios@yahoo.com

I picked up a Calcified Ribcage today of a skellie(just the plain old 'a Skeleton') that was probably lvl6, in Toxx he was fairly close to the erudin gate though so beware...I cant use the ribcage unfortunatly, im an erudite pally on sullon zek

I know that Calcified bones drop off Calcified Skellies and other skeletal mobs in Nektulos. They are also used for DE SK quests there. Perhaps they do drop somewhere closer to Paineel, but I am not personally aware of that place. Good luck.

On a side note, I think it could be a mistake in the quests? To use Kobold bones makes 100% more sense than Calcified Bones IMO.
Where to get components
# Jul 29 2002 at 9:08 PM Rating: Good
Regular skeletons (not decaying skellies though) drop the bones in Toxx. Unfortunately there's only maybe 3 or 4 skeletons in Toxx at any given moment. I haven't tried killing any of the Abandoned Heretic Pets yet...they're still yellow to my sk hehe. Assuming you can get to Nek Forest at a level when this armor would be useful, it would be a better source for the calcified bones.

FYI the crude bronze bricks you need for these quests is the same crude bronze dropping in Crushbone. It is much much much easier to get from CB, than it is from the Warrens.
Nektulos?
# Jul 29 2002 at 8:50 PM Rating: Default
I know that Calcified Skellies are all over the place in Nektulos Forest, but that would be abit extreme for the Paineel folks to go there. Have you checked the Paineel newbie grounds on the way to the Warrens, or in the Warrens. Maybe VI added them there.
Good luck on the sternum, they hardly ever drop in Nektulos.

I have been all around Toxx with my lvl 25 druid using track and I have never found any kind of skeleton that might drop the bones. Anyone have any info on what creature drops the bones?
