    You say, 'Hail, Brenthalion Aleslammer'

Brenthalion Aleslammer says 'Lo dere Polunk! I be Brenthalion Aleslammer Holy Defender of Brell! I can see that ye found my temple of Brell that I have resided over for many years. I have been appointed by da King Kazon himself to make sure dat all our young paladins get da [training] dey need before dey go out to explore da world. Aye.'

    You say, 'What training?'

Brenthalion Aleslammer says 'Ye see Polunk, learning all the correct fighting tactics along with learning your way around your homeland can be no easy task for a young one new to Kaladim. That is why I have developed a series of training exercises that help me monitor our young ones as they progress through the ranks of the Paladin on their path to true enlightenment! If you are a [young paladin of Brell] I would be happy to explain to you how the exercises work and I would also recommend that you take part in them!'

You say, 'I am a young paladin of Brell.'

Brenthalion Aleslammer says 'Well I would be lyin if`n hearing dose words didn't bring a smile to me face every time that I hear dem. First thing you will need a Magical Mail Assembly Kit that you will use to combine different magical items in that will create an armor material. Once you have created a armor material you can then take it to a forge along with a armor mold to fashion an armor piece. If you are able to collect all the items for them you will have the potential to make a full set of Underfoot Defenders Platemail! If`n ye are [ready to begin] collecting yer items I will be happy to give you your Magical Mail Assembly Kit and git you started!'

You say, 'I am ready to begin.'

Brenthalion Aleslammer says 'Excellent Polunk! Here is your Magical Mail Assembly Kit. Once you are ready to collect the items for a specific armor piece simply tell me what piece of Underfoot Defenders Platemail that you [want] to craft. I can provide you with the material recipe and enchanted armor molds for Underfoot Platemail [Helms], [Bracers], [Armguards], [Boots], [Greaves], [Gauntlets], and [Breastplates].'

You say, 'I want to craft breastplates.'

Brenthalion Aleslammer says 'To create yer breastplate material you will need to combine 5 Bricks of Crude Bronze, 1 Scarab Carapace, 1 Golden Bandit Tooth, 1 Pristine Forest Drakeling Scale, 1 Skunk Tail and 1 Enraged Goblin Beads in yer assembly kit. Once you have created the proper material take it to a forge along with this mold to fashion yer very own Underfoot Defenders Breastplate. When you have finished completing your armor set I would like you to return to me for I have one [final task] for you to complete. Aye.'

    You say, 'What final task?'

Brenthalion Aleslammer says 'Da final task is simply dere young Polunk. I myself likes to collect many trophies as well as beer steins ye see. Well sense my days have been occupied by trainin da newest up and coming lads and lasses I haven't gotten a chance to go prize hunting like I once did. So if`n yer up for da task I would like ye to collect me some [valuable trophies] fer my collection.'

    You say, 'What valuable trophies?'

Brenthalion Aleslammer says 'There are 3 signifigant trophies I would love to have fer me trophy room. If ye can collect and bring me 1 Enraged Goblin Beads, 1 Green Goblin Head and 1 Aqua Goblin Head I will surely reward ye with a blade worthy of the finest defenders Brell has to offer. Aye'

    Turn in the items.

Brenthalion Aleslammer says 'Dese will surely be a great addition to me trophy room ______! I knew I could count on you to not have a problem collecting these things for me. As I promised, I have prepared you a fine blade that will surely guide you to victory wherever your travels may take you. Gud luck to ye ______, hammers high!'

I just got through with this quest on my Dwarf Pally. The Faction hits are as followed for turning in the quest items to get the Claymore:

    Clerics of Underfoot + 20
    Kazon Stormhammer + 20
    Miners Guild 249 +15

I guess the Miners Guild was slightly less impressed :)

    Newbie armour quests

Im a lvl 5 newbie dwarf paladin and in 5 days ive manged to collect all parts of the underfoot defenders aromur. Its taken a long time and ive had to have a lot of help but it is achieveable. The only thing I was lucky on was someone selling the pristine forest drakeling scale early on in the quests. I managed to collect all items in kaladim north/south, butcherblock mountains and greater faydark. Just ask other players most people ive met on eq are great towards newbies and ive learnt alot.
    Dont give up!
My little Pally Dwarf got lucky

Fortunately for my little dwarf I got him a Ghoulbane at 7th so everyone loves this little guy in this full set of armor running around with this ghoulbane and yes it's NO DROP too so it rocks. Wish I had a pic to upload hehe

    Underfoot Defenders Quest in Review
    # Sep 26 2002 at 1:07 PM Rating: Good
Here's a quick rundown with the Newbie Dwarven Paladin quest: Underfoot Defenders armour and weapon. Conditions and mob drops will vary from server to server so don't get set to make adjustments. FYI, I started my new Paladin on a PvP server before the newbie quests started, played him for a bit and dropped him when I started getting PK'ed. I was lvl 7 when I started the quests and I've only to find two Rockling Spider Legs to finish the complete armour set.

Generally, each piece requires a couple of mob drops from the local zones or purchases from merchants *and* bricks of crude bronze. Before you start going hog wild breaking Goblin camps and hunting mobs waaay out of your league, here's some advice:

Most of what you need for the quests are at the merchants and not expensive! I didn't keep track of purchasing costs, but the only really expensive things I bought from the merchants involving these quests were the Greenblood Ogre Insigia (which I later got off every wandering Greenblood Ogre) and the Goblin heads. Remember that not everybody's a Dwarven Paladin looking for newbie armour drops. Another thing to consider is to look in as many merchants as you can (especially near the mobs themselves) and other zones. Just for fun I hoofed it over to Greater Fay, Steamfont and Ak'Anon and found some important drops being sold at the local merchants. I'd heard that the Crude Bronze also drops off the Crushbone Orcs and one (busy) night found several bricks just rotting on the corpses by the zone edge.

Be nice (and sociable) to the higher levels! I've more than once been fighting some tough mob when a lvl 20-ish peep heals my wounded body and gives me enough buffs to clear camps and get the drops I needed. I met a perfectly nice fellow who was hunting Enraged Goblins "just because they beat him up when he was my level" and he let me get the two beads I needed.

You may have to buy stuff off other peeps! Sadly, the Pristine Drake Scale is a rare drop that some peeps feel has to be paid for with your blood. Either start hunting for the scale early or start saving money 'cause it's borderline overpriced.

The Pristine Scale IS overpriced, just get a Pristine Scarab Carapace (off of giant scarabs or Death Beetles in Unrest) and some gold (think it's 27) and give that to Vacto Molunel at Stormhammer Hold. He'll give you a BP with 14 AC, 1 Str and Sta, neg 1 Dex (yer a dwarf, got enough of that already), 1 sv disease, AND 10 HP. Course, it's tradeable, so this isn't quite as good for PvP, but otherwise it's better than the Underfoot Defender's BP.
    Cool! NO DROP!

The fact that these pieces (and the whole library of quests) are NO DROP help us peeps on the PvP servers since I can't seem to zone more than once without getting Rooted and Nuked by some pimply faced Gnome Wizard.

    The final task reward is:
    2HS 40dly Dmg 11
    Weight 10.0
    Bane Damage Undead +2
    Wis +2
    HP +10

Graphic is the standard sword - unfortunately very boring. Armour looks nice though

    goblin skulls
    # Jul 30 2002 at 10:49 AM Rating: Decent
i have seen 1 goblin skull. it came off a goblin (or it might have been a shaman, can't remember for sure) in the camp to the east of the entrance to kaladim... it may be on the same rare table as the pristine forest drakeling scales. =(

Actually, on Fenin Ro, they are fairly common. The camp you're talking about was one of my favorite spots to get the stuff, and the skulls would drop off of about 1 out of every 4 or 5 gobbies (not including whelps).

    Hope this helps.

I finished everything but the helmet, since no one has ever seen a goblin skull drop. You should be able to get everything you need in a group by level 12, or solo by 15 or 16. I solo'd everything at 16. Only tough part was enraged gobbies...had to lull and then drag 2 to guards and go back to kill the lulled one.
    Quest, easy
    # Jul 26 2002 at 7:48 PM Rating: Decent
I got mine in about 1 hour, the heads were easy to find, and the beads can be gotten easily as well.

Then maybe you can tell the rest of us if goblin skulls exist? And what lvl are you cause most pieces don't seem to be doable by lvl 5 paladins.

You can get gobbie skulls very easy at any of the gobbie camps near the crossroads they drop there very commonly.
