This quest begins with Yuin Starchaser at location 455, -600 in Southern Felwithe.

You say, 'Hail, Yuin Starchaser'

Yuin Starchaser says 'Welcome to the Keepers of the Art friend Inzilbeth. I am Yuin Starchaser and it is my pleasure to assist new scholars wishing to study the arts of Enchantment, Wizardry, and Magery. Although much can be learned within these halls there is no substitute for experiences gained in the world outside Felwithe. The Koada'Dal have many enemies however, and it is wise to be prepared to face them. If you are new to the Keepers of the Art I will assist you in obtaining a [robe and clothing] suitable for study in the wilds.'

You say, 'Do you have another task?'

Yuin Starchaser says 'One of the responsibilities of the Keepers of the Art is to weave and maintain powerful magic wards that help protect Felwithe from enemy magic. An understanding of the magic wielded by Felwithes many foes is vital to the success of our protective wards. With the help of the paladins of the Koada'Vie we have discovered many of the secrets of the orcish shaman that reside in the citadel of Clan Crushbone to the north of the Faydarks but there is still much to learn. The task I have to present you will take you into the [Crushbone Citadel] itself.'

You say, 'I will go to Crushbone Citadel.'

Yuin Starchaser says 'The entrance to the Citadel can be found on the northern edge of the Greater Faydark. Once within the citadel seek out the Orc Thaumaturgist and obtain his book of spells. Once you are in possession of the Orc Thaumaturgists Spell Book return it to me so that the masters of the Keepers of the Art may study its contents.'

Head to Crushbone and find "an orc thaumaturgist" at location 330, 360 (inside a tent/hut north and west of the castle). He usually drops an Orc Thaumaturgists Spell Book.

Head back to Felwithe and give the book to Yuin Starchaser:

Yuin Starchaser says 'Well done young Art Keeper. Take this Rough Art Keepers Initiate Staff and go forth and gather a Pristine Forest Drakeling Scales and an Arborean Amber. When you have acquired those two items return them to me with the Rough Art Keepers Initiate Staff and I will put the final touches on the staff.'

Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Faydarks Champions has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with The Dead has been adjusted by -1.

You receive a Rough Art Keepers Initiate Staff.

Go to the Greater Faydark and kill forest drakelings until you get Pristine Forest Drakeling Scales. Kill "a mature arborean" until you get Arborean Amber. (Mature arboreans can spawn from any treants including the saplings and sprouts.)

Return to Yuin Starchaser in Southern Felwithe and hand in the Rough Art Keepers Initiate Staff, the Arborean Amber, and the Pristine Forest Drakeling Scales:

Yuin Starchaser fashions a grip for the staff from the pristine forest drakeling scales, places the arborean amber into a mithril fixture and attaches the fixture to one end of the staff. 'Here is your new staff young Art Keeper may it serve you well in the pursuit of your studies.'

Your faction standing with Keepers of the Art has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Faydarks Champions has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with The Dead has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience!

You receive Art Keepers Initiate Staff.

Quest is active on Vulak'Aerr.

Just received the item. Amber a pain to find; killed about 50 arboreans.

Sigh, no +INT on a mage questable item. But every little bit helps on new server.

Confirmed as of today. A note on an orc thaumaturgist. He has no PH and may be on some sort of spawn timer. He is also level 13 on Vulak and I assume Fippy as well.

Amber?

Can anyone tell me if the amber is still dropping. I have been killing every Arborean I find and still have not seen amber ever drop. Lots of bark, and twigs, but no amber. Could someone please shed some light on this?

The amber is still dropping. I would call it very rare, however. Must have kill around 30 of the arborials to get mine.

Don't even think of killing the Thaumaturgist at a lvl beneath 15 (or even higher) if you are soloing. You just won't make it out alive. His spells are nasty, he hits fairly hard when meleeing... Just take care out there!

Complete Item List

Alright, I've seen this done on other threads and it has helped when getting everything together, so here it is for the High Elf Int Caster noob armor.

Armor Items:
15 Silk Threads (30 Spiderling Silks)
8 Giant Wasp Worker Pollens
11 Woven Spider Silks
5 Ruined Forest Drakeling Scales
1 Forest Drakeling Scale
1 Pristine Forest Drakeling Scale

Weapon Items:
Orc Thaumaturgists Spell Book
Pristine Forest Drakeling Scale (this is the second one, if you're keeping count)
Arborean Amber

Full Stats of ALL items when equiped:
CHA: 8
INT: 16
AGI: 6
DEX: 7
Mana: 10
AC: 21
2HB 8dmg 34dly

Clearly not one of the best noob armor sets around there, and they only redeeming value on the weapon is that it is magic, so you can use it against willowisps, but as for the weapon, that's about it. Get a different weapon as soon as possible. It does feel good to actually finish the complete quest, though, so for those of you who have, give yourselves a pat on the back, since you clearly have more heart than the 12 year olds who only want the shiniest weapons. Besides, when you're a caster, what are you going to do with a weapon anyways? Rooting and nuking, staying in groups, and letting your pets die while you get distance between a red mob is the way of a caster, and if you can't enjoy the social aspects of EverQuest, why aren't you off playing Dungeon Siege instead? Besides, people who complete the noob quests are much more likely to get an epic later on, since they are the people who will stick with a quest and complete it, no matter what. These are the types of people I would want in a group and in a guild.

You're missing some, for the wristbands, there are two drone pollens. For the robe, it's a warrior. Not even sure if you have the stats right, then.

Also, not all of us twink. These quests are fairly easy to do by level 8 and the best int I can get for that money.

And no, I never buy Pristine scales. I find them easily enough as it is

Careful with this guy, he's nasty. He seems to spawn pretty regulary at the head of the table in the hut. During our fight with him he cast Clinging Darkness, Lifespike, Poison Bolt, Disease Cloud, and Heat Blood...thank god no heals :). He also doesn't seem to be able to see through invis/camo. The other mobs in the camp make getting him a good study in tactics.

The amber is so hard to get! I have been trying forever and still haven't gotten one. What excatly does it drop off of? the Mature ones or Sapling. Also, where do they spawn and how can you get them to spawn? Please help, thanks.

As a response to my own post, the amber is found on MATURE Arboreans. It is a relatively uncommon drop and the Mature Arboreans are pretty rare themselves.

The staff is +2 int plus the amber drops off the Aborean SAPLINGS not the mature ones. Plus i think it is good for a newbie/ =) i did all the quests and it feels good to have it ALL not just the good items. Play Everquest not Getgear

all the newby quests are race restricted as well as class and/or deity. a human necro from qeynos cant do human necro quests in freeport.

Yes, they are race and class restricted...but I think that a half elf druid from Qeynos could still do the quests for half elf druid from kelethin. There doesn't seem to be any indication otherwise...however, most (if not all) of the items obtained from the Surefall (Qeynos) quests are better than the ones from Kelethin.

:)
RE: race restricted

I agree. I play a half-elf warrior, did the steel warriros quest in freeport, saw that the battlemaster quest in qeynos yields better armor and I've now done the qeynos newb warrior quest.
agree it's a waste

You can buy a stein of moggok for 100pp if you wait for a good price. Even a non twinked player should be able to afford that by saving up their pennies (+10 int, only takes up one hand, plus other stats).

Well are the final tasks Race restricted or just class? I'd check it out. I highly doubt it would be race restricted. Class yes but race no. *shrug*
RE: Comment
# Jul 29 2002 at 4:42 AM Rating: Decent
These are race restricted - these are *newbie* quests for the newbies of that city. No other newbie town lacks them (at least, none of the ench/mag/wiz cities). These aren't meant to be used in twinking, instead they give newbies virtually free armor with actual stat bonuses.

Gnome Enchanter/Magician/Wizard final newbie bit is extremely nice, about the same as the Dark Elven Necro book. Both give +5 int books, with other nifty stats. I just wish the Dark Elven other caster classes got something similar - no, not a +1 or 2 int dagger, thankyouverymuch... but they *are* the Spurned for a reason, I guess.

Class restrictions are for other gear that you can get everywhere else. If you want twink gear...newbie quest stuff won't interest you.
2hb!????
# Jul 25 2002 at 9:45 PM Rating: Default
This is completely a WASTE OF TIME if you ask me.
With 2hb you won't be able to hold a stein or anything else, plus the stats are not that great. Why do the gnomes get a +5 int, +5 cha, 20 mana spellbook that can go in either slot and we get this piece of !@$%? I just don't understand.
RE: 2hb!????
# Jul 26 2002 at 9:13 AM Rating: Decent
This is not a waste of time for non--twink low levels. You have to keep things in perspective. It is an easy quest, and the reward is that of an easy quest.
RE: 2hb!????
# Aug 23 2002 at 9:09 AM Rating: Decent
ok After looking at these they (all the High elf newbie caster quest) are not very good. Yes on some of the newer servers a non twink may find uses. As I said a newer as I am on one of the orginal servers and If you don't twink yourself you will get twinked by folks that see you. I mean How many green silk drapes can the game support.

The result is very difficult, by the time you are likely to be able to kill a Mature Arborean, let alone actually find one you will have two items in your hands (both hands) than a 1 INT item that takes both hands. This is very poor - particularly if you compare it to the Gnome INT caster item book.
RE: 2hb!????
# Jul 26 2002 at 2:17 PM Rating: Default
I would think that even a non-twinked player could get lucky enough to get a much better piercing weapon and therefore free up the other hand to hold a stein or something else. I will say that at least the weight doesn't suck on this
item as it is 2hb and most are extremely heavy.

I found the Orc Thaumaturgist in the huts by the slaver caves. Once you turn in the book, the guildmaster hands you back a staff and tells you to get a Pristine Forest Drake scale and Arborean Amber, then turn all three in to him.
