You say, 'Hail, Yuin Starchaser'

Yuin Starchaser says 'Welcome to the Keepers of the Art friend Allakhazam. I am Yuin Starchaser and it is my pleasure to assist new scholars wishing to study the arts of Enchantment, Wizardry, and Magery. Although much can be learned within these halls there is no substitute for experiences gained in the world outside Felwithe. The Koada'Dal have many enemies however, and it is wise to be prepared to face them. If you are new to the Keepers of the Art I will assist you in obtaining a [robe and clothing] suitable for study in the wilds.'

You say, 'what robe and clothing'

Yuin Starchaser says 'You will need this specially prepared Curing Kit to craft the Art Keepers clothing. The materials required vary depending on the piece of clothing you desire to craft. Once you have been outfitted in the garments return to me and you may be assistance with [another task]. Do you desire to craft a [art keepers cap], [art keepers wristband], [art keepers gloves], [art keepers boots], [art keepers sleeves], [art keepers pantaloons], or [art keepers robe]?'

You say, 'I desire an art keepers robe'

Yuin Starchaser says 'To craft an Art Keepers Robe you will require three [silk thread], giant wasp warrior pollen, two woven spider silks, and a pristine forest drakeling scales. Once you have the necessary components combine them in your Curing Kit with this Tattered Robe Pattern.'

Within the last 10 minutes of hunting Forest Draklings around the area outside of Felwithe... I've gotten 2 Pristine Drakling Scales, 2 Ruined Drakling Scales, and 2 Forest Drakling Scales. Everyone that I've killed has dropped something.

Armor Cost: 90-150pp
# Jan 16 2004 at 2:19 PM Rating: Decent
All told a full suit of this armor will indirectly cost you about 90-150pp depending on the server. On Stromm spiderling silks go for about 3pp per silk. They go for more on most other servers. Since this quest requires 30 silks total you are giving away 90-150pp you could have sold them for in Bazaar. I still think it's worth it tho, just thought I'd throw that stat out there.

I don't care what anyone says, VI is incredibly bad at design and coding, this quest is just another nail.

PERIOD!
Warrior pollens!!!
# Feb 13 2003 at 10:27 PM Rating: Decent
I spent more than 2 weeks searching for those three stupid warrior pollens. I was offering people plats just to send my a tell when they found one to let me loot it. 2 weeks! then, in one nite, i found all three i needed for the armor... weird...

Well I don't know if something has been changed but several merchants have Pristine (and 'ruined' and 'normal') Drakeling Scales in stacks of up to 20 and sell them cheap. I cannot remember the exactprice but we are talking somewhere between 5 silver and a couple of gold. I am still searching for Warrior pollen though :)
RE: Warrior pollens!!!

I got most of the quest items quickly as I leveled from 1 to ~8 with my chanter. Then when it came time to do the warriors is when I got snagged. Over ~2 days I killed every warrior I could find (not many) and got only one pollen. Then, late last night I logged on, started hunting, ooc'd that I was looking for warrior pollens, and *boom* two warriors in a row flew by and both dropped the pollen.

Then I went on to find the pristine drakeling scale. Started near the abandoned druid ring, killed everything in sight (level 9 by now) for a couple of hours and had little luck. After awhile a wiz came by looking for the same items so I moved along over toward the Felwithe gate, ooc'ing on the way that I was looking for the pristine. Second drakeling I killed had it.

I thought it was a weird coincidence that both times it happened right after I ooc'd saying what I was looking for. Anyhow, that was my experience, and from what I read here it sounds rare.

I agree that the newbie quests should be doable by level 10, in the course of normal hunting, with perhaps some camping/extra trouble involved for the final piece. These should not be mythical achievements.
Complete Item List
# Dec 13 2002 at 8:57 PM Rating: Excellent
Alright, I've seen this done on other threads and it has helped when getting everything together, so here it is for the High Elf Int Caster noob armor.

Armor Items:
15 Silk Threads (30 Spiderling Silks)
8 Giant Wasp Worker Pollens
11 Woven Spider Silks
5 Ruined Forest Drakeling Scales
1 Forest Drakeling Scale
1 Pristine Forest Drakeling Scale

Weapon Items:
Orc Thaumaturgists Spell Book
Pristine Forest Drakeling Scale (this is the second one, if you're keeping count)
Arborean Amber

Full Stats of ALL items when equiped:
CHA: 8
INT: 16
AGI: 6
DEX: 7
Mana: 10
AC: 21
2HB 8dmg 34dly

Clearly not one of the best noob armor sets around there, and they only redeeming value on the weapon is that it is magic, so you can use it against willowisps, but as for the weapon, that's about it. Get a different weapon as soon as possible. It does feel good to actually finish the complete quest, though, so for those of you who have, give yourselves a pat on the back, since you clearly have more heart than the 12 year olds who only want the shiniest weapons. Besides, when you're a caster, what are you going to do with a weapon anyways? Rooting and nuking, staying in groups, and letting your pets die while you get distance between a red mob is the way of a caster, and if you can't enjoy the social aspects of EverQuest, why aren't you off playing Dungeon Siege instead? Besides, people who complete the noob quests are much more likely to get an epic later on, since they are the people who will stick with a quest and complete it, no matter what. These are the types of people I would want in a group and in a guild.

Yes, the warrior pollen is no drop. And a rare drop. Off a fairly rare mob (I once saw two up at the same time, but only once). An enchanter and my ranger spent around two hours hunting wasps and only got one pollen for her.
Pristine Forest Drakeling Scale

Either VI has increased the drop rate or I was extremely lucky but I got 2 pristine scale in less than 3 hours last night.

I think they increased the drop rate, both of my alts got one pretty quickly. Good luck to anyone who might not be so lucky hehe )

In several postings in all the new low-lvl quests people have come close to the answer, but haven't quite hit the nail on the head.

I helped a halfling paladin, high elf chanter, and wood elf druid all obtain the hard-to-get pieces for thier quests (pristine scales, warrior pollen, giant yellow jacket parts, etc.). All three took about 3-4 hours each, took some patience, and wasn't extremely difficult.

The key is...ready? Make friends with and group with a ranger <gasp!>. The tracking variations a ranger can do (if they've been learning) makes these quests well within the "doable" range. If the ranger is high lvl you won't get xp's, but you'll get your pieces.

warrior pollen?
# Sep 15 2002 at 7:53 AM Rating: Decent
Warrior pollen is not a common drop. Funny I found three right away and Haven't seen another in about 50 kills. I think i can buy a better robe in the Bazaar for under 50pp but wanted to complete the set. The staff seems totally worthless and a waste of time.
Don't want to twink, but...
# Aug 26 2002 at 1:52 PM Rating: Default
I'm at the point where I'm so frustrated with trying to get that ultra rare pristine drakeling scale i think I'll take my lvl 45 bard to Gfay and just farm draklings all day long, until that thing drops.

I really really didn't want to twink my newbie chanter. I was hoping to play him "honostly." But, the sheer rarity of these quest items has gotten me to the point where I'm just going to twink a blackened crystaline robe to the chanter and forget about it. Thank you VI for driving me to the point of twinking. I tried to be honost, but ***** it.

# Sep 16 2002 at 5:40 AM Rating: Decent
I don't blame you. I tried to do the same with a newbie wizard. I spent 6 hours looking for draklings and not getting any scales. So I finally gave in and brought my 53 druid to GFay to track and kill them. 3 more hours of that and STILL no pristine drakling scale! Verant is obviously not too bright. In the time it takes the average person to get the pristine drakeling scale, they could have levelled to the point of getting a better robe and more easily!

Where can the wasp warriors be found? I've searched the entire zone, and managed to find 1. I have all the items I need to complete my outfit, but I can't find the warriors for the pollen. Any info, tips, or suggestions greatly appreciated.

After searching for almost a month and killing countless wasp warriors, I FINALLY found a wasp warrior pollen!!! Talk about rare... sheesh.

They're most often found around Orc Hill and Crushbone, and occasionally West/Northwest of Kelethin, halfway to the zone wall. Try to partner with a ranger and take advantage of that tracking skill. I lucked out on the Pristine Drakeling Scale, and found it fairly quickly, but have yet to see another one.

The warriors are indeed found at orc hill. They sometimes spawn like crazy, sometimes aren't there at all, and sometimes are just uncommon. The pollen itself is a relatively rare drop, so you may have to kill several for 1 pollen.

I saw a few between the orc Lift and Orc Hill. My newbie 'Chanter didn't go past Orc Hill. They weren't common though.

My level 14 rogue finally gave up onthe tunic part of this quest (which also uses a pristine drakeling scale) after 56 drakeling kills with no scale...and they are going for 50pp now each in GFay. Perhaps making them a tiny bit more common and nodrop might have been a better solution...LOL
Verant's quest team needs to be smacked upside the head...ba

Sigh. Here we have another example of what passes for a *cough* quest *cough* in EQ… No story, no plot line, nothing…just another scavenger hunt that involves hunting for an ultra rare drop on a rare spawn (wasp warrior pollen), and a mythical drop on a common mob (pristine drakeling scale.)

If anyone from Verant’s quest team is reading this, WTF are you thinking, man? Come on! Why don’t you put a little effort into your work and come up with something interesting. You people have managed to create some wonderful quests before. Heck, just go and do the wood elf rogue’s “Scout’s Cape” and “Scout’s Blade” quests to see a couple newbie/low level quests done right. Above all, stop writing dreck like this. :(

Ultra Rare? This (and the rest of this line) were completed in less then 3 hours of play by a lvl 11, now 12 chanter. Considering the alternative, this isnt that horrible. Your post is a bit misleading perhaps for truly new players.

Though I dont aruge that little effort appears to be places into the 'story line' of these quests. I can not truly fault them for spending minimal time on quests that you will outgrow fairly quickly, even for those who do not have alot time to play. My hope would be that more of the effort be put into quests for players where the level process takes a considerable amount of time.

If you like to play several characters and never get past the middle 30s, then I feel for you. Indeed for these folks, there isnt alot of content or story in most of the quests. Though they do get somewhat better. In my opninion through the expansions and even some before they have added much improved storyline and quests. In fact in a alot of cases the newer quests are not so much scavenger hunts as they are tour guides for players learning new zones.

These low level quests get the players new to the game familar with the terrain, and let people get away from 'bat smashing' to level 10 or so where you can more safely journey into one of the local dungeons. (Yes I realize bats are green well before level 10.)

My impression is you are being a bit shallow on your perspective, or at the very least a little ungrateful. Given the amount of players who are well above these quests vs. the amount of new comers to the game, the fact they added anything new for this level of play is in itself a humble gesture. Yet, I am merely one voice. You as a consumer (or your parents) can at anytime venture to greener pastures. I hear Neverwintern Nights allows you to design your own style of play. Good luck, and safe journeys.

Your attack is seriously unwarranted, and I do believe you owe him an apology. Just because *YOU* lucked out in finishing the quest in 3 hours, does not make it a viable quest. The rest of us have spent days to weeks on this quest to yet see a SINGLE warrior pollen or pristine drakeling scale drop. I've learned the terrain better than my own RL neighborhood from the time spent running around, and my character is probably a dozen levels behind others who started around my time and ignored this quest.
This quest NEEDS to be tweaked if it's going to be a level 5 quest. Spending more than 3 hours on a quest this low is horrible. Spending WEEKS on it is just plain wrong.
RE: Lack of perspective!
# Aug 07 2002 at 8:01 PM Rating: Decent
I think he had it right, i have spent 2 weeks, killed literally hundreds of forest drakelings, and have never seen a 'pristine' scale. I don't think there is such a thing, and u need two of them, one for the robe and one for the staff.
RE: Lack of perspective!
# Sep 09 2002 at 2:35 PM Rating: Decent
I haven't seen one myself and every time I'm on I hear someone asking for one for as much as 10pp (never heard anyone selling it though). They must exists. There is a picture of the robe itself. Unles someone just made that up <grin>
Woven Spider Silks?
# Aug 02 2002 at 9:46 AM Rating: Decent
Where do you get woven spider silks from? I know that tailoring is used to combine two spiderling silks into silk thread. Are woven spider silks dropped or tailored from something?
RE: Woven Spider Silks?
# Aug 03 2002 at 5:32 PM Rating: Decent
The woven spider silks are a common drop on widow hatchlings and large widows.
lvl and difficulty
# Jul 31 2002 at 2:17 PM Rating: Decent
I did this quest and If the level is based on the player actually killing all of the creatures, not getting someone else to kill a mob then paying to loot the corpse, then this should be maybe lvl 11 to attain. The Giant Wasp Warriors were dark blue to my lvl 12 wizard. Maybe A MAG or ENC could do it at lvl 5 because of the pet?
The pollen is a rare drop. These giant warrior wasps spawn right around orc hill, the spawn is infrequent and out of 100 kills I got TWO pollens. The pristine Forest Drakeling Scale; I killed around sixty of these forest drakelings and got plenty of ruined or normal scales. I never got the pristine scale. I ended up buying it for 30pp. I seemed like most people that were hunting for this item could not get it, while most druids or rangers could get them and then sell them for descent cash. I guess I was unlucky.
RE: lvl and difficulty
# Aug 15 2002 at 7:32 AM Rating: Decent
I think your right about the level required for the latter part's of the quest being higher than 5, (those that require the warrior pollen). I actually started the quest at level 3, it wasn't to hard with a pet, and full Mana.
