    You say, 'Hail, Randel Stormwind'

Randel Stormwind says 'Well met, ______. This has been a very stressful time for many of us and some of us have been kind of edgy lately. We've lived here for generations and in relative seclusion and we enjoyed a simple life for the most part. Unfortunately, this was not to last and the sudden [change] has left many on edge.'

    You say, 'what change'

Randel Stormwind says 'There are a lot of people that resent the outsiders and view their presence as corrupting our way of life. It's more then just the new guards and the sudden influx of people though. This is sort of a long story that begins when my grandfather was just a lad. It was during the rule of Antonius III that public [access] to the Jaggedpine Forest [was restricted].'

You say, 'why was access restricted' (Player Note: You cannot click on "access" or "was restricted" you must type the combo out.)

Randel Stormwind says 'The Protectors of the Pine became concerned when adventurers began wandering through Jaggedpine Forest and into the Unkempt Wood. Most that did were never heard from ever again. The residents of Surefall feared retaliation from the Unkempt for those trespassing into their territory and Antonius smartly reasoned that if Surefall Glade were to be taken, Qeynos would surely be next. So he declared Jaggedpine Forest and all points eastward off limits. So it was just our ancestors that dwelled on the [Throne of Karana's Fury].'

You say, 'what throne of karanas fury'

(Player Note: [poacher] skips most of the quest dialog and moves to the "poaching" step below.)

Randel Stormwind says 'Yes, that was what this place was called until recently but I'll get to that part in a minute. We who acted as stewards were allowed to come and go as we pleased through Surefall Glade. For the longest time things were peaceful. Sure, we had problems with the odd [poacher] here or there but for the most part it was peaceful. However, trouble began when an [outsider] snuck through Surefall Glade and entered the Unkempt Wood.'

    You say, 'outsider'

Randel Stormwind says, 'She was a Koada`Dal Enchantress that frequently visited the libraries of Erudin. She heard about the strange Tunare worshipers and sought to investigate them. She barely escaped with her life and was found half dead by a kind ranger by the name of Jorgan Leafrunner. He took her back here and nursed her back to health. As a matter of course, they fell in love with each other. [Love is blind] they say.'

    You say, 'Love is blind'

Randel Stormwind says, 'She was a woman of the world, very agnostic in her beliefs and much different at the core from Jorgan who was a devout follower of Tunare. She began to corrupt him with her worldly beliefs and to turn him away from Tunare. She thought our name for what we call home was silly and began a campaign to convince other to change the name to [Fort Jaggedpine]. Whether it was by magic or diplomacy, she was successful in her campaign and the name was changed.'

    You say, 'Fort Jaggedpine'

Randel Stormwind says, 'Well, as you can well see, this is not much of a fortress. It is more of a collection of cabins really. Many were angry with the change and feared that Karana would punish them for changing the name and failing to honor the [gift] he had bestowed upon us.'

    You say, 'gift'

Randel Stormwind says, 'Ages ago, around the time that Qeynos was first being built, a terrifying storm swept the land. A massive lightning strike caused a fire and then a tempest descended from the sky and all but cleared this land we stand upon today. A group looking for a place to settle took this as a sign from Karana and built their homes here and named this place the Throne of Karana's Fury. This is a story we've all heard as children. Many are starting to become [superstitious] and feel that the gnolls moving in is our punishment for removing Karana's name from our settlement.'

    You say, 'superstitious'

Randel Stormwind says, 'Well it was quite a while ago that this happened. And Jorgan Leafrunner passed away a long time ago. However, his grandson Jeremy Leafrunner still lives, as does his grandmother Elishia who moved back to Felwithe after her husband's death. Many blame them for the trouble we are having now and for the sudden changes to our way of life. Already I have noticed an increase in [poaching].'

    You say, 'what poaching'

Randel Stormwind says 'Yes poachers often sneak in and mindlessly kill our sacred bears for their skins. Often they'll kill a mother bear and leave their cubs for dead. If I am able, I'll take the cub and raise it. If I do my job well, I'm able to release the bear back into the wild once it is old enough to fend for itself. There is one [group] of poachers I'm particularly worried about though.'

    You say, 'what group'

Randel Stormwind says 'They are a pair of ne'er-do-well couples that have been terrorizing the animals recently, killing and maiming every creature they happen across. It's their sick idea of sport. They need to be stopped. They call themselves the [Pirates of the Pine].'

You say, 'what pirates of the pine'

Randel Stormwind says 'They are a bunch of good for nothing lowlives! I would stop them myself but sadly, I lack skill with a weapon. You on the other hand, look like you can handle yourself pretty well. If you are able to bring these four to justice, return to me with proof. You will be justly compensated for your efforts.'

  • Hand him 4 heads from Poacher camp at -700 -1300... they drop off rare spawned named respectively.

    Head of Elishia Blackguard
    Head of Reynold Blackguard
    Head of Vaurien Sticklebush
    Head of Zed Sticklebush

Randel Stormwind says 'Great Karana's blessing!! I see justice by your hand is both swift and eternal. I would never have had the skill nor the heart to carry out these miscreant's punishment the way you have. I'm glad to call you a friend and not an enemy. Well, I did promise just compensation for your efforts and I'm true to my word. Please take this ring as a token of my gratitude.'

I was looking for quests to do and decided to play in Jagged Pine today. When I approached the poacher camp all 4 named were up. A short time later they were headless and I trotted over to Randel to see if this was still doable as a 104 monk. I am now the proud owner of Sigil Ring of the Jaggedpine. No shrouding used, just ran the text and did the turn in. Faction adjustments are still the same.

A few hopefully useful notes, some may be repeats:

    1) The "named spawn" at the campfire is on a consistent 2 hour 35 minute spawn timer. It will always pop one of the four head-droppers, never Yranik. This pop, like the others at campfire, will eventually wander off into the woods. Though not as prone to getting killed as the others, they can still die easily enough from this.

    2) The head-droppers can spawn at the campfire, or in any of the tents, though they seem to have favorite locations within them. In my weeks out here I have repeatedly seen Zed pop in the 5 man tent in the front left location as you face it, and in the six man tent in the front left location as you face in the door near the 5-man. I've seen Vaurien and Elishia both pop consistently in the back left point in the 5 man, Vaurien only in the far door spot on the 6 man, and Elishia only in the back left of the 4 man tent. Reynold I've seen pop several times in the front right location of the 5-man.

    3) Yranik pops in all three main campfire spawns, and in the front three spawns in 5 man tent. Have not seen him in the 4 or 6 man locations, nor will he pop in the 2:35 named spot. His pantherskin is for a druid quest.

I cannot say for certain that those locations I meantioned are exclusive, but those specific tent locations and the named spawns are the only points I have seen the head-droppers spawn in the last couple weeks.

I have done the head quest four times, and have let many other heads rot as repeats. Despite starting as a ranger, doing this quest 4 times, and leveling from 51-54+ on Poachers and Gnolls, my JPResidents faction still isn't maxed, they're a tenative bunch.

You animal! You must have done some really disgusting things in your EQ-life for her weapon proc to have any effect on you!

*chuckle* But seriously now. Her weapon proc indeed fears players, pets of _any_ kind, and normal animals. A slip-up of the spell team at Sony I think.

I founf that if I cleared the largest tent ( the large one with two openings ) each time I was finished a named popped by the fire if there was a place open.. named also popped inside the tents.

Yranik blackguard ( not one of the head droppers ) was the hardest to kill, he was very resistant to snare / root and be warned - they all backstab and move quickly even when snared.

I've been camping this spot for a few days now and have all the heads except Zed's. Never seen him pop. I know the campfire is about a two hour spawn for the named, and I once saw one in a tent too. Just wondering if there's some trick to getting them to spawn faster or getting specific ones to spawn. I've had little problems soloing Ynarik Blackguard. Just snare him, kite and DOT him a few times and he goes down easy. Occasionally I find some stat armor on the named, but nothing all that exciting. And it's lore so you can only have one of each item.

While it's possible that Zed might be on a two hour timer, the others most definately are not, we got two spawns of Yranick Blackguard (sp) at the same time at the campfire. We pulled one and while killing him another one spawned on the other side of the campfire. We pulled him too and killed him right next to the previous corpse.

Not long afterwards Zed spawned and dropped the burnose, sap stained boots, a research component and a flayed panther hide. Oddly enough he didn't drop his head, so they must not drop their heads every time.

Well, for me, i just happened to be killing poachers because with one healer and me at 51, i can wipe this camp out and make mad exp with only splitting and not grouping. while i wait for the pop cycle while working the med size tent next to the huge tent i also single pull potameids from the river and again make mad exp. well along the way i just happened to get these heads so i figure like this i'll keep it and if i get desperate for money, i'll sell my 8sv all rings and keep this one. plus the potential for a bigger quest in the future isnt one to look down at. just my opinion. that and $1.99 +tax, will get you a cup of coffee.

I have gotten all the heads but Vaurien at the campfire. Have yet to see Vaurien pop. I have also seen the Blackguards pop back to back. The one that dual wields and doesnt drop a head cannot be snared or rooted, best bet is to play pong or wait till an animal aggros him then ks the animal.

Ynarik Blackguard is the one named that doesn't drop a head. He CAN be snared AND rooted. However, root almost never holds or is resisted. Snare was NEVER resisted, I kept dotting him up and simply reapplying snare. He is not worth the kill after once collecting the random items on his corpse. I looted a flayed panther skin (no drop) I assume this may be for a quest we have yet to figure out. Any info is appreciated.

    Spawn figured out!
    # Aug 02 2002 at 10:40 PM Rating: Good
OK, named mobs can spawn one of TWO ways. Randomly anywhere in the camp OR at the 4th spawn around the camp fire. The 4th spot on the camp fire is a 2 hour spawn (approx) that is GARUNTEED to put up a named paocher. For me this has ALMOST always been Zed. But other people have told me they always got the male Blackguard there. So it is of course random also. I have had as many as 3 named spawn back to back to back. In all actuallity, it was really a back to back spawn from random poachers and the 2 hours timing poping at the same time.

Here is a link to a nice shot of us killing the Blackguard family, http://www.ralloszek.net/uploads/18049-family.JPG
The Guy was on the 2 hour spot, and the Woman came from the tent closest to the water.

We killed their pain in the *** son later.

On a side note, not really related to the spawns, when I turned in the 4 heads, Randel Stormwind took 3 heads, handed me the ring AND Elishia's head back to me. Don't know if this was a glitch? or what, but just thought I would pass it along.

Somebody had probably turned in that head, so it was an xtra. Kind of like doing a MQ.

Make sure you guys are paying attention to whom you are killing...there are 5 named poachers, you need 4 specific heads. Yarnik does not drop his head (i dont think, I have killed him 5 times now without a head drop) The other 4 (male/female Sticklebush and male/female Blackguard) The first time I saw Yarnik I got happy because I noticed I did not have his head, and thought I was done with the quest....unfortunately it is Zed's Head Im missing.

    Reginold Blackguard - central fire
    Vaurien Sticklebush - northeast tent
    Elishia Blackguard - northwest tent
    Zed Sticklebush - southeast tent

apparently random spots within the given tent

    # Jul 29 2002 at 6:07 PM Rating: Decent
I have gotten 3 heads, all of which spawned at the fire. there are 3 poacher spots around the fire, and the 3 (all but Zed so far) have spawned in the 4th (empty spot) on the fire closest to the zone wall.

Seems as if they might be random if you kill poachers, or if all poachers are up, he/she popps in that 4th empty spot.

I've had the exact OPPOSITE happen to me. Zed has spawned THREE times for me in the spot you mentioned. But I have never seen a normal poacher spawn in the named place. Also, I ONLY clear out the north most tent, the one with one outside and 3 inside. I quad them. But I was thinking maybe, the named pop depending on which part of the camp you are cleaning out. I only clean out the one tent, and so far I have only gotten Zed. Any speculation on this?
    faction

Is the faction gain a significant one? I found myself KoS to the Qeynos Guards (am not evil) and killing endless bandits hasn't fixed it. Twould be lovely if this would noticeably help.

I know where you are coming from ... I was once KoS to the Qeynos guards and it took me many weeks of killing gnolls and bandits and raiders to get to non-KoS with them ... but if the faction moved fasted once I got pasted KoS.

Which qeynos guards are you kos to? There are 2 factions: qeynos guards and corrupt qeynos guards. The 2 at the gates to town are on the qeynos guards faction. There are a few around town that are on the corrupt guard faction. Killing bandits does not raise the corrupt faction.

Camped the Poacher camp yesterday morn, was a group of us 55 shammy, 51 shammy,(both w/ pets) 53 cleric, and myself a 53 shadow knight. The 55 shammy pulled single with no problem, the poacher would get slowed as I attacked, the Shammy maybe got 2 JBB blast in and they were runnin. Was toss up on cons 50/50 on dark blue and light blue to me at 53, they hit for 60 - 90 at the most double attacks somtimes. we kept the camp clean for the most part with prob 15- 20 mobs in camp. Loot consisted of alot of pelts change and we got 3 outta the 4 heads for the quest. Hope yall find this helpfull.

Conned blue to 54, pretty easy root/dot and the one hit she did wasn't too hard (like 60). I'm a bit skeptical, though, is this quest really "Excellent 5.0" like it says above? The ring doesn't strike me as that great (you can put some pretty nice pieces on your fingers.) Or are they just saying that because of the good faction?

A lot of NPCs in JP will only talk to you after you prove yourself. I'm on aimable and they're still not responding, so I think this quest needs to be done first. Just a thought.

Some mobs are dark to 55, so I would guess that many are dark blue to 45.
    Got one!
    # Jul 26 2002 at 8:19 PM Rating: Decent
If they were dark blue to 55, you would think they would be red to a 45. Anyway, I killed Zed today, solo'd. Not any tougher than the rest of them that I noticed. Well he DID hit about twice as hard than the normal poachers. But HP seemed relatively the same. And kiting them is SO easy now that they got rid of the moving mob dot reduction penalty. When the named pop, harmony and pull. Not a problem at all.

This is the new best quadding exp I can find in game now. So if you quad and are in your mid 40's I highly suggest it.

Yup, and did you notice your heals doing better also? Clerics still heal for more using same spell, but not as much more now. My Greater heal used to heal for 283, now does 300. Not much, but better.

Yeah, DoT penalty is gone, so once it lands you get full DoT damage. Now you only have to root/rot if you are crunched for space.

And they got rid of the Non-cleric healing penalty. Example, Greating healing, Heals 300 HP. For Non Clerics there was a 10% penalty, i.e. 30 points, so you should have been healing for 270. Thats what I always healed for and all my druid friends. Clerics get like a 5%, maybe even a 10% BONUS, so they should be healing for at least 315 on greater healing.

Anyway, they got rid of it for us, and left the bonus for clerics in place, so they still heal better than us, but us non clerics heal a bit more than before.
