You say, 'Hail, Errin Pinewhisper'

Errin Pinewhisper says 'Welcome to Surefall Glade friend. I am Errin Pinewhisper, Ranger of Karana the Storm Lord. You will find worshipers of both Karana and Tunare residing here in harmony. I train young rangers of both faiths and assist them in getting prepared for work in the often dangerous lands beyond the glade. If you are in need of a [sturdy outfit] suitable for work as a young ranger then I will gladly instruct you on the means to obtain one.'

You say, 'sturdy outfit'

Errin Pinewhisper says 'This specially prepared curing kit will allow you to craft an outfit that will protect you in the wilds of Norrath. The materials required for the outfit vary depending on the piece you desire to craft. Do you desire to craft Pine Scout [Gloves], Pine Scout [Boots], a Pine Scout [Bracer], a Pine Scout [Cap], Pine Scout [Leggings], Pine Scout [Sleeves], or a Pine Scout [Tunic]? Once you are properly outfitted there is an [issue] that you may be of assistance in resolving.'

You say, 'I desire to craft pine scout bracer'

Errin Pinewhisper says 'To craft an Pine Scout Bracer you require a [silk thread], a ruined gnoll chain bracer, and a giant field rat whiskers. Once you have the necessary components combine them in your Curing Kit with this Tattered Wristband Pattern.'

These quests are hella hard, i cant seem to get the Giant Field Rat pelts to drop... Any suggestions on how to get them to spawn more?

I found the giant field rat pelts dropped far more than the whiskers. Just keep looking in Queynos Hills using your tracking skill. I'm a lever 11 ranger and have just completed my pine scout armour, sword included.

As far as the sharpening stones go, I found the closest place to buy them is from a vendor in Erudin. You can search for days otherwise. :)

Sharpening stones are also available in Halas.

I sympathize with you I am a L17 ranger on AR the qyuest for the 7 pieces is long and tedious. I can assure you all items are in QH and BB and that the effort is worth it>>>here is a summary of the accumulated total bonuses: HP +21, AC +42, Str +3, Dex +6, Wis +6, and Agi +8. If you thought this is hard just wait to you do the Pine Scout Longsword --which is next. a bit of advice if you come across sharpening stones in your travels ---BUY THEM!!!!!. If you manage to get thru this sword quest you should have acquired the patience necessary to be a ranger and quest for the Cloak of the Jaggedpine. Have fun

sorry forgot you have to go to Qeynos catacombs or aqueducts or to West Karana for the spiderling silk to make silk threads

Of course the fastest and easiest way to get the spiderling silks is to go to the Halas newbie area and kill the tons of spiderlings running around there. You can get all the spiderling silks you need in a very short period of time and with less chance of being killed, avoiding the three (nasty) skellies that roam the same area and are KOS.

I have yet to discover if there is a ph for the giant field rats. I've seen giant rats but they don't drop the "field" pelts or whiskers that we need. I think this is the hardest part of the quest. Besides going into blackburrow and getting the chian drops. Allthough I'm only lvl 7 now and completed most of my armor. I'm just missing the tunic now and the sword of course. However I do seem to encouter the giant field rats mostly in the east section of the zone near blackburrow. Just keep using that track :)
Bracer or wristband?

I have found a ruined gnoll chain bracer for sale off a Qeynos vendor. Will this work, even if quest calls for a "wristband"? Ditto on Cap, I found a ruined Gnoll Chain Coif for sale, but not a cap. anyone know if these work, did they change the name of the items?

The ruined gnoll chain coif is what you want to make the pine scout cap. Once you've made it and put it on, it looks a bit like a green leaf of your head. Looks especially funny if it's the first peice of pine scout armour you've made like I did.
Same goes for the ruined gnoll chain bracer. Once made it the kit, it becomes a braclet, or wristband, whatever you want to call it.

Get all the ingredients in Surefall Glade from Errin Pinewhisper in the hut. If you follow it exactly, it'll work. Like, gian field rat whiskers can't be subsituted for giant rat whiskers.

For ruined gnoll chain items, I've found 3 in Blackburrow so far and seen them being sold by vendors, although they get rather expensive. The first regular gnoll i killed just inside BB dropped a chain coat, which i made into a pine scout tunic on the spot as i had the other ingredients on me.

I've been working on this quset for the past few days and have almost completed the armor. I still have to make the gloves and boots. I have killed what seems like a million giant field rats and I only ever found 1 of the whiskers (they are no drop, which helps keep you from confusing them with the regular whiskers). The 1 that I found I found was on a dead rat I did not even kill. It seems that there are only about 3 giant field rats in the zone at any one time and they spawn rather slowly. I have just been going to Surefall Glades every night before I log off and looking for the rats. I personally respect anyone who has this armor as it is a laborious task and anyone who has the armor has to have done the quest as all the pieces and the components to make them are no drop.

do they exist?

i've killed at least 30 or 40 giant field rats and never got a giant field rat wiskers. ive gotten many giant rat wiskers, though. is that what they mean?

Make sure you're not trying to get them from Giant Rats; only Giant Field Rats drop them. It could be worse - you could be a Qeynosian rogue trying to compete with a zone full of rangers for the Giant Field Rat Whiskers.

The giant field rat whiskers are a hot camp for the lower rangers especially in the qeynos hills zone. They apparently only show up one in perhaps six or seven kills. When these quests appeared with the whiskered bats and field rats during the may or june patch, I found out that the gnoll chain tends to trivial (at least for us suckers on firiona vie) at about 15-17, I suppose depending on which gnolls you ace. Finally something for the human rangers..damn shame I was 25 when it showed up.

very good armor for rangers, i seem to have trouble getting the ruined gnoll chain though, any1 know where it drops?
RE: coolness
# Jun 24 2002 at 5:19 PM Rating: Default
The ruined gnoll chain can be found by killing gnolls in Blackburrow. The various types seem to drop off any type of gnoll from scrawny on up. I never found any on pups. I collected all the ruined chain armor pieces in 2 visits.
The part of the armor quests I am having trouble with is the giant field rat whiskers which seem to drop very infrequently.

You cannot resist the GEC!
