This quest is only for Human Clerics who worship Karana.

You say, 'Hail, Vansted Rohenga'

Vansted Rohenga says 'Pleased to meet you Celestrae, I am Vansted Rohenga High Priest of Karana. I have spent all of my years studying the ways of the Cleric in our wonderful Temple of Thunder. We receive many new recruits every day and it is my duty to place them in my [training program].'

You say, 'what training program'

Vansted Rohenga says 'Well all young clerics of Karana are brought up from their first day of training to know and respect their practice. I have developed a number of exercises that will enable a young cleric to make a set of their own armor by means of collecting certain items and making [enchanted armor materials] out of them.'

You say, 'what enchanted armor materials'

Vansted Rohenga says 'Recently we have discovered that combing certain items in certain quantities using a magical assembly kit can forge together an armor material. These armor materials are used with specific armor molds to create a piece of enchanted Stormhealer Armor. If you would like to [begin forging armor materials] I will present you with your Stormhealers Assembly Kit.'

You say, 'l would like to begin forging armor materials'

Vansted Rohenga says 'Excellent Celestrae, please take this Stormhealers Assembly Kit. It is in this kit that you will combine certain items together into materials necessary for crafting your armor. I can present you with the material recipes and armor molds for Stormhealer [Helms], [Bracers], [Armguards], [Boots], [Greaves], [Gauntlets] and [Breastplates]. When you are ready to gather the items for an armor piece simply tell me what piece you [want] to craft. Once you have created a specific material take it to a forge along with the applicable mold to create your armor piece.'

You say, 'want craft breastplates'

Vansted Rohenga says 'Here is your Stormhealers Breastplate Mold. To create your breastplate material you will need to combine 5 Bricks of Crude Iron, 1 Young Plains Cat Scalp, 1 Low Quality Bear Skin, 1 Water Flask 1 Lock of Scarecrow Straw and 1 Giant Fire Beetle Carapace in your assembly kit. Once you have created the proper material take it to a forge along with this mold to fashion your very own Breastplate of the Stormhealer. Please come back to see me after you have completed your breastplate. I have a [final favor] to ask of you.'

Bad quests

These quest are horrible for ppl with no intimate knowledge of EQ and can be quite frustrating.
The thing with the carapaces for example, how would a 'real' noob know . VI seriously screwed up some of them quest. Having to go to the other end of the world to get them of seemingly the same mobs is imho just a quest programmnign flaw.
For some deity/race combo's the quests are ridiculious hard to get some items , while for other deity/race combo's they are so easy coz you can buy most items of merchants.

Btw i finished most of em

Nice idea by VI
Blown to hell by VI

Who - what - where drops the Scarecrow Straw? Thanks.

I finished the entire quest last night. The lock of scarecrow straw drops from 'Animated Scarecrows' in Western Karana. These critters hit really darn hard (in the 30s) and con'd Lt. Blue and Dk. Blue to my level 19 cleric. You can find them in the Miller family's field.

Reward is:
Breastplate AC 12 STR +2 WIS +3 AGI +5 NO DROP
and is usable only by human clerics of karana, naturally.

Addendum - The lock of scarecrow straw is NOT NO DROP so you can have a higher level adventurer help you acquire it if needed.

Thanks for the info - I'll NOT be taking my Level 5 Cleric over there (quite yet).
Firebeetle Carapace

The Giant Fire Beetle Carapace only seems to drop from the GFBs in E. Commons. I could not get a single one to drop from the species in W. Karana. The GFBs in E. Commons although they have the same exact name seem to be different species. They do not run when low on health, and they hit alot harder than the Karana variety.

I also only found the Giant Fire Beetle Carapaces to drop off of the giant fire beetles in EC. Thankfully, few of the items for these quests (at least for the Qeynos bard armor) are no drop, so I was able to purchase many of them.
