Hand Loremaster Solstrin your Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Mark 1).

Loremaster Solstrin says 'Incredible! Never before has an outlander been skilled and determined enough to craft our sacred rune. You are now worthy of the Dain's most perilous task. You should seek an audience with the Dain immediately. Show him your Runed Prayer Shawl; he will give you the task that has been prepared for you. If the Dain is away show your Shawl to Chamberlain Krystorf and he will call for him.'

  • Receive Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Mark 1) and an Empty Coldain Issue Kit.

    Dain's Chamber - Icewell Keep

(note: This step is not required, if you spawn Dain, you may not respawn him later)

  • Give Chamberlain Krystorf the Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Mark 1) if the Dain is not spawned. This can only be done ONCE.

  • Receive Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Mark 2) - (To prevent respawning of Dain)

Chamberlain Krystorf says 'One moment the Dain has been waiting for you. I will call for him.. oh here he is now, show your shawl to him.'

  • Hand the Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl Shawl to Dain Frostreaver IV.

Dain Frostreaver IV says 'Ah Trewayn. I was hoping to see you. We require your skilled hand. The Armory is overtaxed preparing armor for the war that we are preparing to wage on the Kromzek. We need you to help them by creating some Field Plate for a mission that is near to execution. Go see Loremaster Solstrin in the Hall of Ancestors, give him these orders. He holds the lore recorded on how to make the field plate. Return to me when you have completed a Standard Issue Kit.'

  • Receive Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Mark 2)
Receive set of orders for Solstrin.

Hall of Ancestors - Icewell Keep

  • Give the orders to Loremaster Solstrin.

Loremaster Solstrin says 'So, the Dain needs your assistance with the Field Plate. The Dain must trust you a great deal to impart the wisdom of our armor creation to you. Here are the tomes. The first details how to make the basic armor, the other details how to begin [working with gemstones]. If the Dain is asking you for them you should place them in an [Issue Kit].

May Brell guide your hand friend, good luck to you.'

  • Receive Forge of Icewell Arms and Precious Gem Study.

    You say, 'Working with gemstones?'

Loremaster Solstrin says 'Aye, gems are placed within the armor. Brell is pleased with this fusion of ore and gem. The combination produces a sturdy piece of armor. You will need some Etching Tools to work with the gems. If you ask Meg Tucter for a set, she should have some lying about.'

    You say, 'An Issue Kit?'

Loremaster Solstrin says 'The Standard Issue Kit is what we issue to soldiers at the beginning of their mission. I have this empty one here. Place a complete set of Imbued Royal Velium Armor into it before you give it to the Dain.'

  • Receive Issue Kit, an 8-slot container with a combine button. Holds large items and is LORE MAGIC and NO DROP

    Jewelry Shop - Thurgadin

You say, 'I need a set of Etching Tools'

Meg Tucter says 'Oh, really? There are not many around that work in faceting gems. I am surprised to see your interest. You can have this old set of mine. There is no need to return them, Talem recently made me a new sturdy set. Brell bless him.'

  • Receive "Tools". Make the armor, put in issue kit, hit combine.

  • Dain's Chamber - Icewell Keep

  • Give Chamberlain Krystorf the Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Mark 1) if the Dain is not spawned.

  • Receive Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Mark 2) - (To prevent respawning of Dain)

Chamberlain Krystorf says 'One moment the Dain has been waiting for you. I will call for him.. oh here he is now, show your shawl to him.'

  • Hand the Coldain Standard Issue Kit which you created to Dain Frostreaver IV.

Dain Frostreaver IV says 'Excellent work Adorean. If I didn't know I would assume this was made by our most skilled artisans. You must hurry, General Bragmur has formed camp in Iceclad. Take the kit to the General, he had to drudge forward without any armor. His [mission] must be a success if we hope to successfully defend Thurgadin against the Giants.'

  • Receive two items: Approved Issue Kit and Expedition Orders.

    You say, 'What mission?'

Dain Frostreaver IV says 'After General Bragmur has equipped the armor you have created for him, give him these orders. He is a skilled diplomat and will need to reach the pirate Gnomes. We must enter into a pact with them. We will supply them with the velium that they need to build their silly gadgets, and they will take their ship back to Antonica and call for reinforcements from our ancestors. We hope they will accept this pact, after all Brell has been known to align himself with Bristlebane whom the Gnomes of Iceclad follow. You may be an important [factor] in their success'

    You say, 'What factor?'

Dain Frostreaver IV says 'I fear that spies lurk in every corner. You may need to help the General reach the gnomish camp if the Kromrif has gotten word of our efforts. You should call on any allies that you have to assist in case they ambush you. Brell bless you Adorean, good luck.'

    Iceclad Ocean

  • Find General Bragmur at location -3400, +9000.

    You say, 'Hail, General Bragmur'

General Bragmur says 'Please keep yer voice down I am busy here. If you do not mind I would ask that ya kindly leave.'

  • Hand General Bragmur the Approved Issue Kit.

General Bragmur begins to put the armor, 'Finally the Dain has gotten word of my arrival here. I await his final orders before proceeding.'

  • Hand General Bragmur the Expedition Orders.

General Bragmur says 'The final orders, follow me closely! I pray that the Kromrif have not learned of our plans to allign with the gnomes.'

    You will face 5 Encounters.

    First Encounter: -3550 +7550

Commander Vjorik shouts 'The tracking wolves have found the Coldain! To the South West, Charge him!'

Four Kromrif Tracking Wolves spawn and attack. These cannot be snared or rooted. Unsure about stuns or mezzes. The wolves are not difficult.

The Tracking Wolf Coller drops here.

After the fight the General heads to the north again.

Second Encounter: -2200 +7250 (right next to the stone building)

Four Frost Giant Skirmishers spawn and attack. They hit for a max ~178 and are again easily dispatched.

The Spiked Velium Mallet drops here.

After the fight, the General heads northeast.

Third Encounter: -1100 +5950 (by one of the square dragon pillars)

Commander Kvarid and three Frost Giant Skirmishers spawn and attack. (They spawn on the General.) They cannot be stunned, mezzed, rooted or snared. The Frost Giant Skirmishers are level 55 and Commander Kvarid is 57.

Commander Kvarid's corpse shouts 'Arghhhh! Though you have felled me your plans shall not succeed! Rallos will destroy you all for invading our lands!'

The Ice Forged helmet drops here.

After the fight, the General heads northeast.

Fourth Encounter: +1500, +2250 (near Tower of Frozen Shadow)

Five Kromrif Tracking Wolves spawn and attack.

The Drakkel Wolf Claws drop here.

Fifth Encounter: +3700, +2650 (the lone tree on the hill)

Commander Vjorik and five Frost Giant Skirmishers spawn and attack. (They spawn on the General.)

    The Snowchipper drops here.

After the fight, the General heads to the pirate island.

    Iceclad Dock

General Bragmur says 'Lo there gnomes! Tell me is your camp located nearby?'

Ratop says 'Yar ye scruvy bearded dwarf, just over tha hill there.'

    Ritap says 'Arrrrrrrrrrr!'

    Iceclad Pirate Encampment

Captain Nalot says 'Hrm? Who is scuffin' around out here?'

General Bragmur says 'Greetings Captian Nalot, I have come to you with a proposition to make.'

Captain Nalot says 'Arrrrrr what is it ye want?'

General Bragmur says 'Well ya see sir, we have a surplus of Velium that we would not mind sharing with you for yer tinkerin' but would ask a favor in return for it.'

Captain Nalot says 'Velium eh? Well there matey lets hear what you have got to say!'

General Bragmur says 'I represent the Dain in this matter, we would like for you to use yer Icebreaker there to head to Antonica and bring reinforcements for the war that is preparing to ensue. We are needin' all the help we can get against the Kromrif.'

Adisson Stubblechin says 'Don't be thinkin' I was forgettin' ya, Nilham, ya spotty-faced salt licker. Remember, ya tell us where ya put our rum, an' we let ya out. Otherwise, ya have ta stay here!'

Avatar of Below 's voice echoes through the area. 'The efforts to help the Coldain and bring them together with the gnomes of Iceclad is quite impressive. There will be no doubt that they will continue to increase in power until they can overtake the Giants of Zek. Hey there, what is that on your shoulder?'

You say, 'Its a runed coldain prayer shawl'

Avatar of Below says 'So it is the sacred rune of the Coldain. Let me have a closer look at it.'

  • Hand the Avatar of Below the Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl.

Avatar of Below holds the shawl up close to one eye to look at the rune sewn into it. He smiles to himself and then drops it to the ground and places one hand on it. A bright blue glow starts to emanate in the snow, then there is a sudden flash! The Avatar has dissipated. All that is left behind is the Shawl lying in the snow, shimmering with a new power. Pirotess slowly bends down to pick it up, and is infused with a blessing from Brell.

  • Receive Blessed Coldain Prayer Shawl.

General Bragmur says 'I must go tell the Dain of these events immediately!'

Captain Nalot scratches his head, 'Yar ya do that ya crazy Coldain.'

Need at least a group to do final wave
    # Jun 05 2006 at 5:53 PM Rating: Decent
I just tried to complete the final battle of this quest with a 66 mage and a 67 necro. We wiped during the third wave. The giants summon, which makes kiting impossible. They also conned dark blue and hit in the 100-200 range. The main problem is that the coldain who you're supposed to keep alive is a little frail. During wave 2, he was reduced to 40 percent life during the first five seconds of the battle, before we peeled the skirmishers off him. He cannot be healed by a necro, but he does heal quickly on his walk to the next camp, though was only about 80 percent when the next wave started.

In short, this is probably not a quest two high-level 60-something characters can do alone.
    PLATE HELM MOLD
    # Mar 06 2006 at 9:34 PM Rating: Decent
All the molds needed are plate molds EXCEPT for the breastplate mold which is just "breastplate mold"

they're all sold from the Bazaar merchants which makes all the velium smithing go much easier beacuse of the weight

    Avatar of Below
    # Dec 02 2005 at 11:48 PM Rating: Default
After we finished the 5th battle, he had already started moving, so it took us a little while to find and catch up to him. FYI he stops at the pirate camp and the Avatar of Below spawns in the fire at about 4584,1312. The avatar looks like a giant dwarf.

Be careful not to overwork your armor pieces...

The pieces needed for the combine are the NO TRADE Imbued pieces and not the droppable Engraved pieces you get by combining with the Etching Kit a final time. I, like an idiot, did a final combine and GMs will not turn the pieces back to an Imbued state allowing me to finish the quest.

I wish I had been more careful in my reading of what was needed. I fear I got just a little too overzealous. Ah well... it was only hours and hours and hours of time spent collecting the necessary items.

Good luck and Gratz to all that do finally finish this quest.

I had done it a couple of days ago for myself for the first time and had to wait for General respawn so we could get my friend his Blessed shawl.

Eveything hunky-dory but he didn't say the phrase 'runed coldain prayer shawl' before giving it and the Avatar ate it. No Blessed, no return of Runed.

Allakhazam suggestion: Would this web site please put in bold letters at the top of the quest something similar to:

Before turning in shawl to Avatar, recite the phrase first

I can't believe that mobs still eat stuff. Especially, since I figured they would have fixed it by now on that Avatar for such an important item. My friend petitioned but has serious doubts he'll either get the Blessed or at least the Runed, orders, and issue kit to try again.

We finally got to this today, the box and orders have been in my bank for about a year. Its not realy much compared to alot of the Oow gear and stuff out there, but it was more about the sense of accomplishment. Needless to say, we had 7 people, 70 Necro, 70 Rogue, 70 Mage, 69 Druid, 62 Berserker, 65 Shammy, and a 51 Ranger. Not too hard, just takes him a long time to walk...which is good. We had the casters run up ahead to med, at the next point, and the rogue guarded the General from trash along the way. Not many close calls, the Druid was Main Healer, and he was boxed. Good luck on yer fun!!
    Ready for crawl
    # Aug 13 2005 at 11:30 AM Rating: Default
Ok I finally got everything I need to do the final crawl. Now that toons can go to level 70, does this change the number of groups you need to complete this task? Can this be done with one group of 65-70? Are you best to still use 2? Just wondering if the new changes have changed what you need to complete this successfully.
    RE: Ready for crawl
    # Sep 10 2005 at 8:15 AM Rating: Decent
I did this the other day, with a 70 cleric, 70 bard, and a 60 wiz, and me a 65 chanter. It was realy simple. I don't think you'll need more then one group of 65+ to do this anymore.
    Plate mold
    # Aug 03 2005 at 2:02 PM Rating: Decent
Seems to me that there is no Plate Breastplate mold. What I did find was just a breastplate mold from the same vendor that sold the plate molds. I tried the combine and it failed because I lack the skills required. Anyone know if this is the correct mold? I believe that it is... however.. not sure

I recall there being some kind of fuss over a "ninja looting" of an 8th shawl on my server, Bertox. I believe that in the VERY early days of this quest, the shawl would appear on the ground. This person walked up after a guild had finished the walk and picked up the shawl. There was a post about it on berthall.com which I am trying to find...

Anyways, that answers my question. Thanks. Now...how might one MQ their 7th shawl for someone else? Is that possible?

It is (or should I say was) possible to help another player MQ for the 8th shawl. I did it myself for a guildie back in 2003.

Here's what's required. Both toons need to have the 7th shawl, so that the MQer can get the box for the armor. Once you have made all the No Trade armor and combined it in the box, you go get the orders for the General, and give him the orders and armor. At the end, have the other toon (MQee) hand in their 7th shawl to the avatar and say the trigger phrase. Viola! They get the 8th shawl, and you get to go make another set of armor :) It saves both toons from having to skill up their smithing. But both players must have exactly the 7th shawl.

    Final Orders??
    # Jun 21 2005 at 5:19 PM Rating: Decent
Besides the Approved Issuing Box, I am supposed to give General Bragmur the Final Orders. I have 2 sheets, 1 called Expedition Orders and 1 called Royal Coldain Orders (RCO is not a listed item on Allakhazam's site). Are the Final Orders one of these or did I miss something?

For anyone else confused about this, I have since found out that, as I suspected, the Expedition Orders are used with General Bragmur. The Royal Coldain Orders are used to get the Standard Issue Kit. Why the RCO was still in my possession after I gave it to Loremaster Solstrin, I do not know.

    Be warned...

They have revamped the quest too.
(I have that straight from a GM who was online in IC at the time)

Everything goes as normal until the final fight. Then a new mob spawns, called a doomshadow. It's invisible like shades, has about 4 to 5k hp at first guess... hits for 140's think. there are 4 of them. After they spawn, the commanders spawn at the same point, so you need a touch more fighting power in order to complete this.

They are not particularly tough, but we only had 9 peeps with the only cleric being a 56 cleric, and we wiped on them. They killed the cleric early, and then we were tickets. Up until then we'd been fine.

I dont think it would be that much harder if you knew about them, but try and get a group up to the final spawn point well ahead of the general. They spawn way earlier than the commanders.

I don't think that's entirely correct... The only (two) doomshawdows we faught just now, doing my shawl8, were well before the final encounter, and we cleared them (after monk aggroed the General to slow him up) then memblurred the General and proceded to the final encounter.

*oh, I should mention that you should stay on the general's right for the trip past the tower... you still might aggro something, but it's alesser chance

We just ran the shawl for a member on Feb 20, 2005 and there was no change from when I got mine back in Oct. I think the doomshadows were part of the one time quests dealing with Firona Vie and not related to the shawl at all. Just the normal shawl mobs spawned at each wave point.

Im ready to start the walk in Iceclad..have the approved issue kit and the expedition orders. Question: At the end, I have to hand the avatar my (approved) prayer shawl but it doesnt have the approved tag attached to it. Is this right? Ive given to the Dain and received it back, etc etc..

Finished this tonight (finally...woot !). I followed the advice in the posts (enc babysitting) and the whole thing ran smooth, no warping, no stuck pathing. Had 2 1/2 groups from 46 to 69 (mostly 50something). Never saw any of the doomshadow mobs mentioned above.

And a pleasant side note....even though the text says it extends beneficial spells up tp lvl 65, my 66 and 67 shammy buffs and also extended. /cheer

Have you cast identify on it and it doesn't say "Approved by the dain?" It never says Rune Coldain Prayer Shawl (Approved), it just changes the lore of it.

    the final orders
    # Oct 26 2004 at 1:56 AM Rating: Decent
I'm ready to hand in the kit to Dain and start the Iceclad walk, but i see in the description that i will need to hand the general the approved box and "the final orders". What are these orders and where do I get them?
    OK, who's ready?

    For a 9th shawl quest?

All this Epic 2.0 talk, I hope The shawl quest is next up to be added to. Would be great to see a Vex Thall grade 9th shawl, and a time+ grade 10th.

    Who's with me?

Well I am all for them adding a 9th or ever a 10th shawl to this massive quest. But this quest is mostly based on your tradeskills ! Now some of the tradeskills used did not have to be that high to complete (ie. Baking). But most needed to be around 200 to have a good shot at a good combine. If they go to a 9th or 10th shawl they need to keep the quest on the same path and require a tradeskill for each addistional quest.

I would suggest taking a trade skill that was used on a lower shawl with a lower trivial and jacking the trivial for the 9th or the 10th way up there.

As for effects and stats ? Well a few more Stats would be nice to have or even a FT4 or FT5 would be nice. Or just add another effect all together.

If you look at other quest (mainly the PoP trade skill earing) you would see if they did add on to teh quest with more, the trial on it would be ummm 335 or something high.

I'd love to see an extension of this quest. Whilst it was a pain in the a** to do, I enjoyed the challenge & it gave a real reason to do all the tradeskills.

The new one 10th shawl should require all skill to be around the 250 mark IMHO. I did the 8th shawl & my highest skill was (& still is) 186. The 9th could maybe require 200 skills for those who haven't got the aa's to take higher.

Personally, I'd be happy with +10 to all stats & +100 mana/hps. However, +100 end/atk & +10 str/dex/agi would make it more attractive to hybrids & possibly even pure melee. This would be in line with the original quest upgrades.

The focus definitely needs a lift tho as it only works at full capacity to 65. I agree it should be taken to 25%+ and extended to lvl 70 (or made limitless).

The FT should definitely rise to +5, which would make it worth the effort to work for it.

Maybe for something new they could give it 2 aug slots?

My Paladin and a Druid friend of mine both participated in a Dain kill, which of course means - YEAH YOU GUESSED IT - they are KOS.

I have my cleric ready to trigger the 8th shawl run. I was wondering what faction the Avatar of Below is on. IS it Dain faction, or just coldain?

If they KOS folks are not KOS to the avatar I can just trigger the shawl run several times and let them do the final turn in for the 8th shawl.

Anyone have any info on this ?

I just finished the shawl on my necro. I was trying to start the qeust with the necro and finish with the cleric. Once the crawl is started only the person that turns in the issue kit can give the shawl to the Avatar of Below. when you hand in the shawl without turning in the issue kit he says "Your dedication and hard work to serve the coldain has not gone unnoticed. However, it seems that you have not yet proved your loyalty to the dain. Please seek an audiance with him before coming before me, ( insert name here)

It sounds as though, in your case, you missed a step. The person handing the shawl to the Avatar MUST first have shown the shawl to the Dain, or to Chamberlain Krystorf (who then summons the Dain). That changes the shawl to an "approved" shawl.

    finished the quest, WOOT!

I kept trying to talk to the general at the end, I completly missed the fact there was an Avatar there doing the talking but someone finally told me to hail the avatar and it all worked out.

The general got pretty damaged from a pet on the quest but he heals real fast.

    Good luck to you all!

Ya, damaged by the necro pet no less. hehe.

Almost thought you were about to loose the quest, not knowing the despawn time on the Avatar.

Dub, unless you did something to get a faction hit with him. You should nautraly get the faction needed for the turn in while doing the quest.

If you hand the Dain your Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl with an aug in it the Dain keeps the aug (the shawl he hands back to you is aug-less)! I am thinking the quest is not aug-aware, petition submitted for aug return. Suggest removing any aug you want to keep before seeing Dain. I'm guessing there may also be a problem with final swap for Blessed shawl at end of this quest, so save your augs before you start!

    Either

    1) someone in your raid is KOS in thurgadin, and once aggro was gained by that person, someone else healed, sowed or buffed him.

    2) someone used an AOE spell.

No clue why you could not mezz, we always mez him for aggro control. Usually we have an enchanter keep him targetted and mez him as soon as the giants spawn. Then move the giants away, so if someone makes the mistake of AOEing, they don't break mez.

All the shawl crawls I've done in the last year the General was UNmezzable, but blurrable. I usually just tashed the general when the mobs popped and tanked him for the duration of the fight to keep him out of trouble, then memblurred him till it stuck. You may have to blur him quite a few times for it to stick, but he is blurrable.

I was the General's babysitter on a shawl crawl a month or so back. I can't say I remember ever being able to mezz the general. I have always just done the same as Liat. Well, I didn't use tash normally. But yeah, get him mad at you and walk him away from the battles.
    Complete Issue Kit

8 Slot Kit. Reuested items 7.
    1. Do I need 2 Imbued Bracers, to make it 8 items?
    2. Do I click combine bfore handing the Complete
    Issue Kit to Dain?
    RE: Complete Issue Kit
    # Aug 02 2004 at 1:49 AM Rating: Decent
To answer both questions, yes. You need 2 imbued bracers, and you need to combine the 8 armor pieces in the kit prior to Dain turnin.

Just tried to do the Iceclad crawl. Had 2 full groups lvl 62+ (overkill never hurts). After waiting for General to spawn, we gathered and buffed up. I handed in Kit then orders and General starts walking. He got stuck inside to cliff on his way up, and then poofed off of track. First wave spawned and was dispatched easily enough, but General never came back :( Waiting on a GM response to /petition atm. Really frustrating to come this far and be so close for this well known bug to still be in game. Maybe its just me, but have the collision issues in game gotten worse every patch? Maybe its just a bug with the Generals pathing? Either way this blows. Gonna be a long painful haul if I have to camp those hound furs again if GM won't fix my situation. Hope everyone else has better luck.

<edit> Yes, respawn on General is 4 hours. Clocked it today after a friends crawl.

My guild did this event last night even knowing that many have been having problems with it lately and the cleric just about cried when the general got stuck on the first hill and had a hard time getting over it....it looked like he was not gonna make it over the hill and that she would have to start over with makeing the armor for the turnin, but then, the ranger desided to try something.......and it WORKED!

Ranger put his weapons away so if he reposted, it wouldn't hurt the general, taunted the general to get aggro and pulled the general in a different path up the hill. Once on top, chanter {mind wiped} and the general started his walk - YAY!~!~!

from then on, the general did get stuck a couple of times but was able to get past it on his own.

The battles were easily won, our 63 chanter had the job of babysitting the general durning the fights. He would get aggro of the general before the mobs did by using his lvl 8 nuke 'chaotic feedback' he pulled the general away from the fighting area. Once the fight was over and corpses looted, bam...{MIND WIPE}and the general was on his way again - YAY

We finished the last encounter and the general started heading to the gnomes. All was well until he got to the last hill before the gnome camp and he got stuck again. Chanter got aggro on him and 'helped' him up the hill on a different path. The general got to the top of the hill and {mind whip} then started on his way again.

we got to the gnomes and the captain and general have their conversation and the avatar spawns....cleric gave him her 7th shawl and got the 8th back =D

We got the tracking wolf collar, spiked velium mallet and snowchipper for loot.....the ice forged helmet and Drakkel wolf claws did not drop.

I hope this helps others finish this quest. Good Luck!

Did this again last night.....the general still gets stuck on hills a little, but not as bad after the last patch, and was able to fix it without any help from us.

Didn't have as many this time.....our fighting force consisted of -
    Group 1 :
    65 cleric
    65 pally
    65 ranger
    63 chanter

    Group 2 :
    65 druid
    62 warrior
    62 ranger
    65 bst

Our chanter "babysat" the general as he did the last time. Beastlords pet got virtue as well as all the PCs, everyone but the chanter was DSed. And the encounters we easily dispatched with the general safely away from the action. Cleric used her Healing ward on the last encounter and all the melee, including the beastlords pet. The druid used his healing ward on one of the other encounters.

this seems to be easily done as long as you have a chanter to "babysit" the general (yes you have to have a chanter.....they can erase the memory of the general after each fight so he continues on his way), 6 tanks (tanks can include pets) and 1 healer for each group. Each person should be 60+ tho.

Oh.....we got the same drops as last time.....the chipper, collar and mallet. Me thinks the helmet and claws are not as common a drop.

    Good luck!!

**Cleric used her Healing ward on the last encounter and all the melee, inclucing the bealords pet, had their own giant.
