K, I did this on my bard just for a bit of fun, and really it's easy if you know where to get the items. I did this whole quest in EC, so this will make it easy on the newbies. The bricks of crude iron ore drop off orc pawns commonly, with a nice 15 weight (OUCH) thats an extra 60 weight on ya, I hope you have chant of battle by now. The spiderling eyes drop off of...yep you guessed it, SPIDERLINGS, wow that was a brain buster. Pretty common and easy to get. The lion tail I got by running in circles looting every lion I saw, it's no drop, nobody is gonna loot it. A bottle you can find off a merchant at just about any inn that sells water and food and bandages, cheap stuff, only a silver or three. The grizzly bear skin is going to make you mad, it drops off black bears, and not too often at that, just shout that you'll pay 5gp for one, you can get it fairly fast though. Then take all your components and combine them in the box he gives you for a special sheet of metal looking thing. Go to a forge with the mold he gave you and the sheet of metal thingy majigger and BAM...You have fashion the items together to make something new! It requires no smithing skill and is impossible to fail. Remember, this whole quest can be done in EC, make it easy on yourselves, don't go to long lengths for a little newbie armor. You say, 'What work' Sten Harnak says 'Well I have numerous concerts here that I must prepare for so I always must be sure that I have the best possible support as far as my fellow bards go. I am always seeking new young talent to sing in our concerts. If you are a bard I have made tasks for you to complete to see if you are a worthy songweaver. These tasks will test your determination and battle skills. I would only allow one that has completed all of my [specific tests] to sing in my concert hall.' You say, 'What specific tests?' Each one of these materials will need to be combined in a forge with the appropriate mold to make your armor piece.' When you are ready to craft a specific piece simply tell me what armor piece you [want] to craft. For example if you would wish to craft a helm tell me 'I want to craft a helm'. Also please keep in mind that the components necessary for crafting your breastplate material are the most difficult to collect so you might want to collect them last.' You say, 'I want to craft greaves' Sten Harnak says 'Greaves would be a very wise armor choice should you be able to gather the components necessary for the material. To create your greaves material you will need to combine 4 Bricks of Crude Iron Ore, 2 Spiderling Eyes, 1 Lion Tail, 1 Bottle and 1 Grizzly Bear Skin in your assembly kit. If you really need to get the lion tail go to west karana and kill young plain lions and lionnesses they are very common drops of them.

Ive hunted and hunted and hunted- black bears, young Kodiaks, and cant find a grizzly bear skin.

What is the deal with grizzly skins? I have killed tons of black bears and young kodiaks in EC.. they still dropping off them?????

OK I just looted one off a black bear in EC, the young kodiaks, kodiaks, and grizzlies in NK only seemed to drop thick grizzly skin

i just recently started a bard. and o my goodness - things have changed since i was a newb. noobies actually have something to do besides - DIE now! i think implementing USEFUL newbie quests was the smartest thing VI ever did to hook new customers on the game. woot VI :D

Any one know if Half Elfs that start in Kelethin can do these? I tryed with my level 5 bard that started in Kelethin and I didn't work, am I doing someting wrong?

they also drop of off goblins in misty thicket runnyeye and the gorge. im not sure about anywhere else but i do know that some orcs will drop it. almost half the goblins in misty will drop it tho.

You should be able to get crude iron off almost any orc in EC. If you've got friends, they can get it off Muddite Miners in Gorge of King Xorb, but don't tackle one yourself if you're a lower level.

Used a regular Grizzly bear skin(Do not use a thick grizzly bear skin) looted off a black bear in East commons. I know but dont ask me I just kill em. lol.

Grizly bear skins drop off young kodiaks bears kodiaks just about any bear in East Commonlads or West Commonlands (EC or WC)

I cannot find lion tails listed on any lion in commonlands or karana either - anyone PLEASE have any suggestions? Its the only item left for my armor quests for my Bard.

The Darkweed snake bile can be found on giant rattlesnakes. That's where I found mine, off a giant rattlesnake in EC.

The quest Does Work please read the instructions carefully make sure you have the CORRECT pieces. Many people make the same mistake, thinking they have the right piece, while they may look similar many new items are not the same as the old ones. For example pelts and skins are now two different type items. Many people on my server have done some of these quests and they do work. So before you bug our busy potatoe chip munching coca coal drinking Guides or GM's make sure you have the correct ingredients for the recipe. B'seeinya
Darkweed snake bile is found on rattle snakes(not large or gaint). Why, don't ask me. Look in Northern Ro to find them easily them.

The quest is done with the samll GB skin with the Weight of 0.2 hope this helps

I finally became frustrated enough to petition and found that some of the Grizzly Bear Skins are bugged! If you are having this problem either keep hunting the bears till you get a non-bugged skin or petiton and a GM will trade your bugged skin for a non-bugged skin.

I'm having the same problem myself, I petitioned this evening and the GM said to report the bug (other people were experiencing the same thing). Hopefully this mornings patch will fix this and the Darkweed Snake Bile needed for the greaves quest.

Try using grizzly bear skin, not pelt.

I have gathered the materials, put them into my Songweaver Assembley Kit and hit combine, but I get the "You cannot combine these items in this type of container" message. Anyone else having this problem?
