You need the ingot and icon of Reliant and 1 bar of enchanted platinum. Go to Kithicor Woods, in one of the burnt houses you will find a book (looks like a bag on the floor). The book will reveal that Turgan the Reliant lived here once, and his brother perished in the fire that burnt the house. It also states that one of the items is hidden in Kithicor. This is the Ingot of the Reliant. Look for it on one of the tree stumps in Kithicor Woods (it is among a group of stumps). It is at loc -70, 3275. You need to jump off a fallen tree to get onto the stump, or use levitate. The book also states that Turgan has moved to Lake Rathetear. There, he is situated off to the left of Gnoll Camp at 3626, 112.. Hailing him is useless, as well as asking him about the Icon of the Reliant (he will shout at you and tell you to go away). Give him the book and he will give you the Icon.

Just verified there are no faction hits or experience, and that this can be done at dubious.

2K4 Update

Doesn't look like anyone has posted here in quite some time, but I did the first part of this quest last night (still have to turn the items in) and I'll add my 2cp. (Actually, this is going to be a long post, so figure more like my 2gp)

I had no trouble with the spawning of either the book or the ingot. Both were waiting there for me when I got to them, using the information found elsewhere in this forum.

They were not kidding when they said Kith is dangerous at night. I'm a lvl 25. I invised vs. undead and headed for the burned hut. Saw lots of dark red dead things, but gave them a wide berth and tried to stay out of their line of sight and I made it to the hut with no problems. I picked up the book and headed for the stump. I managed to blunder around for quite a while looking for it, then got whacked. Something hit me HARD. Before I could even get my gate spell clicked, it hit me again and I was down. Since I had a /loc hotbutton bound to my left and right arrows, I was able to scroll up and find the location of my corpse. I was bound at the Rivervale zone line, where I reappeared naked and shivering, only to be attacked by a living Tier Dahl something-or-other who was bright green but almost forced me to zone because he kept hitting me while I was trying to mem a cheesy DD spell to use against him. By the time I got myself sorted out and got back from a fruitless chase for a regular invis spell, it was daylight and I had no trouble finding the ingot and my corpse.

The run to Lake Rathetear is a long one, so follow the advice about binding yourself back by the port spires or in the PoK. As you run through South Karana, you'll probably be fine as long as you steer clear of Splitpaw (I'm not sure about the Aviak village, so I went around it just in case).

One more tip that you may be able to learn from me: There's a gnoll camp right at the edge of Lake Rathetear where you zone in. There were about 10 gnolls, some were green but about half were various shades of blue, and they conned being "likely to attack" me. I managed to sneak up the hill to my right and get past them and into the water without incident. I swam left and started looking for Turgan, but didn't find him. I found Shmendrick Lavawalker and some other camps, but no Turgan, so I figured he must be on the hill immediately to the left of the gnoll camp. I sneaked carefully back past them to the zone line and (after weighing the pros and cons of a long, naked run in the event of my death) I bound myself at the zone line.

I headed in to try to sneak past the gnolls on the left, but there was no way to do it so I braced myself for a fight and walked right into the middle of them. They left me completely alone! Which was a huge relief, because killing them all would have been a dicey proposition at best.

After a little hunting, I found Turgan INSIDE the cabin on the hill next to Shmendrick Lavawalker. I didn't even think about the cabin on my first pass - doh.

Anyway, I would recommend this quest for newbies because of the experience. Not experience points toward leveling your character, experience regarding the game and how it's played. This is my first character, and I learned a lot during this quest.

Happy hunting,

Aephesus

Not worth the effort

Once again we have a quest that is NOT worth the effort. For what you spend on the Platinum bar, you can buy boots as good as this in the bazaar! I finally got the book by waiting till they did a patch. I logged on as soon as the servers came back up and there was the book. Now I run through SK and get gang banged by a group of Tesch Mas Gnolls. This quest is about as worthless as the Jaggedpine Cloak quest is for the druids. Yup, I wasted a week doing THAT quest, because they CLAIMED that you will never know when the enchantment will change. That was what, two years ago? It is STILL only +3 dex.

What you have to understand is, this quest was put in the game several years ago. That was before luclin, before pop, and I beleive, before even velious or kunark.

These were a huge upgrade from the banded or bronze most people were wearing, and a decent upgrade for those rich guys in fine plate.

These were very good armor for their era, and they're still not BAD boots for 105pp, and about 20 minutes to quest.

Also, remember, there was NO BAZAAR, back when this quest came out. If you prefer to buy your gear there, go for it. You're not gonna get a HUGE upgrade from this for your 105pp. I'm sure there are plenty of people who would prefer to quest their gear.

Worthless? I think not. Perhaps not the right quest for you, but far from worthless.

BTW I recently sold a pair of these boots for 200pp in the bazaar.

I did this quest with a lvl 24 character in about 3 hours. The hardest part was scrounging up enough cash to buy the platinum bar and enchant it :-).

One recommendation. . . .be sure to bind somewhere like the North Ro Nexus before going all the way to Lake Rathe. It will save you a TON of time if you just gate all the way back.

These items don't have to be "triggered" do they? I mean does someone have to go to Blaize and talk to him to get the items to spawn first? Then make a mad dash to the zone (sheesh, upper guk).

Has anyone ever tested this?

There is none.

Look up at the top of the page. See where it says:

Starts in: Temple of Solusek Ro
Who: Blaize the Radiant

Go to Temple of Solusek Ro, and give the items to Blaize the Radiant.

Hail her if you want to go thru the quest lore first.

I camped the burnt cabin for 4 hours before i got bored and went for the ingot. The ingot was right where it was supposed to be (Check maps on EQAtlas), shut down the computer, came back on and the book was siting there waiting for me at about 2 am in game time.

I went straight to the stump, it's a very obvious stump, it's huge and has a fallen tree next to that acts like a ramp for you to run and jump onto the stump. The ingot was there. Woot.

Then I went to the burnt house, it's the one near the north wall that you've probably seen if you've run through Kith on your way to HH pass. The book was not there. So I camped. And camped. And camped. When night time camp I would back up the hill, and every hour (EQ time) go down and check. Just like someone said in another post. Even at level 52 (camped the item for an alt cleric), enough of those zombie troopers nuking you will do some damage. Doh.

It took about 4 hours for that dang book to spawn. It was several EQ days and nights. If you're in the house itself, looking north towards the north wall of the zone...the bag spawned in the left corner.

When you get the book you have to go to Lake Rathe and give it back to Turgan. He's in a house up on the shore. I guess he had insurance and got himself a new pad on the lake after he burned his house down in Kith.
New strategy for doing this quest

Now that you no longer lose experience until lvl 11, and you repop with all your gear until lvl 10, I highly recommend all clerics do this quest, or at least pick up the items in kithicor, before they make it to lvl 10. Think about it, if you can manage to pick up the quest piece, and drop it in your inventory before you die, no harm done. Just have to remem your spells. No corpse run needed. The piece you loot, and all your gear repop with you! Makes this the easiest quest in the entire game, but only until lvl 10.

Another strategy would be to create a halfling character, and just run him around kith until you find the pieces, then give him the plat, and get a port to lavastorm, then do an item transfer to get the boots to the cleric.

I wouldn't bother to do this quest ever with a character over lvl 10 now, since the new rules for sub-10 make it so easy.
Undead & Others

ok, I HATE Kithlicor, but as a halfling I have hide and sneak.

am I right in thinking that if I get a hide to work, I'll be invisible to everything, undead or not?

My experience with using hide has suggested to me that it may be level dependent. I have hidden before, and my group could not see me, and yet the mob I was trying to hide from, still managed to find (and squish) me.
ingot spawn time?
# Mar 14 2002 at 5:20 AM Rating: Decent
I got the book - easy as pie - ran in there it was. Have been camped on the log 4 hours and no ingot. I am sitting there when a level 14 cleric runs up and asks if I was looking for the ingot. I say yes and she giggles and says I'm sorry I destroyed it because I didn't know what it was. ARGGG! So I politely ask here when and she says 4 hours ago, right before I got there I am guessing. Any idea on how much longer I should sit on the tree stump?

Spawn time is supposed to be roughly 8 hours. This is what I was told, and the limited attempts I have made to verify it(don't like kith much, myself), have backed that up.

This was the first in game quest I ever did, completed it at lvl 16, and just recently (lvl 44) replaced these boots. Worthwhile quest to do.
Books & Ingots
# Mar 03 2002 at 10:40 AM Rating: Decent
Yes indeed this is a pretty easy quest. I found the book and the ingot first time out just walked up there and found it. I am not sure about spawn time but I have been back there three times since then to check and the bag has been there all three times on Saryrn. I would also suggest waiting till you get the plat bar. Those things are burning a whole in my head knowing I have them and no plat bar available =(

well I found both the book and the igot on first try for each and went thru during the daylight hours. a named orc was the only thing I encountered as a lev 39 cleric. Perhaps waiting till around lvl 40 to do quests as I have would save a lot of dying but thats just my opinion he he. good luck and happy gaming all. Sidine lvl 39 cleric

Level 39 is a little late to be starting this quest, unless it is to twink, or sell. By your mid 40's you'll outgrow these. I'd suggest you save your money, and buy some Golden Efreeti boots instead.

I read all these post about when the book is suppose to pop. Well I camped the house for almost 48hrs. (game time.) Every hour, on the hour I would check to see if the book was there. It finally popped at 11am on the second day. The way I camped it over night was to keep "invis vs. undead" on me at all times. (I know, some could probably see through it, but just incase.) Plus I actually camped high up on the zone wall just behind the house. Then every hour I would sneak down when the coast was clear to check if the book had popped yet. Like I said, it finally popped at 11am on the second day.

By the way, the ingot was easy, just went to the location mentioned above and it was there.

The Book
# Oct 02 2001 at 7:17 PM Rating: Good
Did this quest today, the information found here posted by others all was a great help.

The book DOES spawn at the burnt house at loc 1700,1100. However poster that have said the book spawns at 7am or whatever, are mistaken. I sat at the house from 6am to sun down 2 days in a row, and no book. On the 3rd day, the book did indeed appear, but not until a bit after the /tim said 8am.

Just thought I'd share that info, so that no one takes the word of the 7am advice and doesn't sit long enuf for it.

Take care and happy questing!

I picked up the bits in kithcor tonight. Used the EQatlas map, sow and levitation. Easy as pie.

Tp'd to NK and ran to the lake. Turgan was waiting and took the book. Sweet and easy.

Lined up a chanter for the platinum bar. Went to buy bar. GAK! 150pp for a plat bar?

Needless to say I am doing this later when I can pay a chanter to buy the bar for me.

I can't help but ask, why would a 40th level druid NOT have 140pp just laying around? Your 34 level ports should provide ample revenue let alone your 39 ports.

Buy the plat bar in your home city. you will usually have better faction there. With ally faction, and charisma around 100, I pay about 110pp per plat bar. BTW, I once got a high level chanter to cast a charisma buff on me, and it added something like 100 pts of charisma, so thats an option as well.

Early in my gaming life, I found that purchasing a crude stein, and a pair of +7 cha bracelets was one of the best purchases you can make. Especially since my main is a cleric, and just started needing peridots for spell components (ouch).

Just wondering if anything sees through invis vs undead or are there any mobs that aren't undead that could kill a lvl 32 Cleric at night in Kithicor? I seem to remember a high level wolf or something but memory getting rusty. Thanks.

A level 32 cleric would last, oh, maybe 10 seconds in kith at night. The undead clerics are level 34, and there are higher level undead. Also, I was told that they see through invis to undead. Furthermore, there are several non-undead creatures you need to watch out for. There is a house, with dark elves outside it, that is you walk near it, a Dark reaver starts raining 800+ hp dd spells on you, plus he has a pet, and friends (didn't live long enough to see what they could do). He's around in day too, but you can see farther. There's also another elf called a tier dal reaver, who wiped me at lvl 17. I was with a mage, same level, who had a pet, and he killed the pet, and the mage, faster than I could cast gate, then hit me and interrupted the spell. This happened when we came down off the wall to go around a rock. I have gotten the items for this quest, and found it works best to get a sow, go in day, and follow the trails as much as possible. Go straight to the locs for the items, then gate out. Invis to undead does help against the low level undead stuff around during day, but for a lvl 32, they would be greens anyway. Safest way to do this, would be to start at level 5 or lower, leave everything in the bank, then just keep trying until you get the items. That way no exp. loss. Course you cloud make a mule, and multiquest it, but will need either a druid helping with ports and sow, or a lot of time.
