Introductions

Maesyn Trueshot may be found in the ranger guild in Kelethin at -451.03, 520.32, 116.28.

You say, 'Hail Maesyn Trueshot'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Welcome to Kelethin, ______! I am Maesyn Trueshot, commander of Faydark's Champions. We are the finest marksmen in all of Norrath. With our trusty [Trueshot longbows] we can miss no target regardless of the distance or the conditions.'

You say, 'What Trueshot longbows?'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'The Trueshot Longbow was created by my famed father, Eldin Trueshot. It is quite accurate and takes a ranger's skill to wield. We use our new recruits to [gather materials] needed by my father. We shall soon begin to release the formula to good elves so all may fletch such a bow.'

You say, 'I will gather materials.'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Take this pack. Go to Kaladim, find Trantor Everhot and ask for dwarven wire. Then go to Freeport to meet Jyle Windshot. Search the inns for him and ask him for treant wood. Then, collect some spiderling silk from spiderlings and finally, in Steamfont, we have the permission of the gnomes to use any micro servos we find while destroying rogue spiders. Combine them all and return the pack to me.'

You receive a Material Pack, a 4-slot MEDIUM container.

Dwarven Wire

Trantor Everhot may be found wandering around North Kaladim.

You say, 'Hail, Trantor Everhot'

Trantor Everhot says 'Yes, yes!! I am a very busy man. I've got blueprints to work on, [dwarven wire] to perfect and formulae to calculate. In between those tasks, I have to find time to head down to Irontoe's and down a few Tumpy Tonics.'

You say, 'What dwarven wire?'

Trantor Everhot says 'Oh!! Interested in my dwarven wire, are you? Many are. I have no problem letting you use a spool, but I have to warn you that I have not perfected the strength of it yet. I will make you a trade. A couple of [Tumpy Tonics] for a spool.'

You say, 'What Tumpy Tonics?'

Trantor Everhot says 'Aaah!! I love Tumpy Tonics. They were created by Tumpy Irontoe. He was once a member of the famed Irontoe Brigade. Since they disbanded and left for parts unknown he decided to stay in Kaladim and open Irontoe's, the finest well in Faydwer.'

You can get Tumpy Tonics from Tumpy Irontoe or brew them yourself (1 Kiola Nut + 1 Water Flask in a brew barrel, trivial 135). You'll need four of them for the quest, so make sure you get enough. Give two to Trantor Everhot unstacked.

Trantor Everhot says 'Hey!! Only one?!!'

Trantor Everhot says 'Great!! I did not have the time to get down to Irontoe's today. Here. Like I said. A spool of dwarven wire. Now go away. I ain't sharing these tonics.'

Your faction standing with Kazon Stormhammer has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Miners Guild 249 has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Merchants of Kaladim has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Craknek Warriors has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience!!

You receive Dwarven Wire. Give him another two Tumpy Tonics unstacked for the second piece of Dwarven Wire.

Treant Wood

Jyle Windshot may be found in West Freeport (a different version of him may be found in East Freeport, but that's for a different quest). Make sure he cons amiably or above.

You say, 'Hail, Jyle Windshot'

Jyle Windshot says 'Hello. Might I ask what you are looking for?'

You say, 'I am looking for treant wood.'

Jyle Windshot says 'You are a new courier from the Faydarks. I am sorry I did not stay closer to the docks. I hear that part of Freeport is dangerous and is filled with many rogues. I shall require a new Small Lantern in trade for the Treant Wood.'

You can buy a Small Lantern at many vendors, including Innkeep Palola in North Freeport and Innkeep Harold in East COmmonlands. Give Jyle the lantern.

Jyle Windshot says 'Thanks, friend. I have run a long way to get here in time. Mostly at night. I lost my lantern in a card game in Highkeep.'

Your faction standing with Faydarks Champions has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Clerics of Tunare has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Soldiers of Tunare has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Crushbone Orcs has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience!!

You will probably receive Wooden Shards, which identifies as "Treant Wood Shards." Occasionally you instead receive A Wooden Heart, which identifies as "A Treant Heart." This is used in the subsequent Rain Caller quest.

Other Ingredients

Spiderling silk drops from spiders around the world. Rogue clockworks in Steamfont drop Micro Servos. You'll need at least two Micro Servos, so make sure to collect spares.

The Finale

In the Material Pack, combine 1 Dwarven Wire, 1 Wooden Shards, 1 Spiderling Silk, and 1 Micro Servo to craft a Pack of Materials. Give this to Maesyn Trueshot.

Maesyn Trueshot says 'I shall see that my father gets the materials. I hope this can be of use to you. It will serve as your starting point toward fletching a Trueshot longbow. It is unfortunate that we are unable to enchant the bow to its [next incarnation], but it is still a fine weapon. You do know the [correct components] needed for fletching such a bow, do you not?'

Your faction standing with Faydark's Champions has been adjusted by 25.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Clerics of Tunare has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Soldiers of Tunare has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Crushbone Orcs has been adjusted by -6.
You gain experience!!
You receive 6 gold from Maesyn Trueshot.
You receive 1 platinum from Maesyn Trueshot.

You say, 'What correct components?'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Now that I have crafted the Treant Bow Staff, you shall need one Planing Tool, one Treant Bow Staff, one Micro Servo and one spool of Dwarven Wire. These items will be used with your Fletching Kit as all other bows. Be forewarned, only a Master Fletcher can create such a bow and even a master fails from time to time. Good Luck.'

You receive a Treant Bowstave. Combine this in a fletching kit with a Micro Servo, a piece of Dwarven Wire, and a Planing Tool to craft a Trueshot Longbow (trivial 235).

About the spiderling silk
# Jul 18 2001 at 12:20 AM Rating: Default
I tried to do the Longbow with the silk coming from Widow Hatchling... but it didn`t work... it`s written "Spider Silk" instead of spiderling silk...

So don't do as Lyndar said or it won`t work... (I just change the silk to the SPIDERLING kinda silk and it worked...!)

About the plane...
# Jul 17 2001 at 10:08 PM Rating: Default
Do you have to buy a new plane for every bow-making attempt, or is it one of those reusable tools that gets returned to you in the same manner a file does when making metal studs in blacksmithing? It seems like if you're just using it to plane the wood of the bow, you'd get it back (but then that would make sense, which doesn't always happen in Verant's world). I was wondering because I'm poor, and if it's reusable I can probably afford to do the quest at lvl 8 or 9 several times until I succeed, but if I'm gonna have to buy a new one each time I'll need to wait until I have the extra cash. Thanks!

I got my trueshot at fletch lvl 86 on the 3rd try. after that i gave it to a friend to hold onto while i tried again and again and again. i had collected enough stuff to try 20 times, and failed all but one. my advice is to go ahead and collect 40 micro servos as that is the most aggrovating thing to do. then put them in the bank and compleate the rest. you should get at least one. i don't know why the guy up there didn't, but everyone else i haved talked to has.
happy hunting and May Tunare bless you on your travels.

I went to the guy in EAST Freeport that everyone
says is an imposter. I gave him my tunic and
the 2 gp he asked for. He gave me treant chards
which I used in the pouch to get my bow stave.
Does this mean my bow stave is no good? (I haven't
attempted to make the bow yet, I didn't read here
ahead of time so I have to go get more wire and
micros)

Trueshot Longbow Quest
# Jul 12 2001 at 8:49 AM Rating: Default
I finally made a Trueshot last night, and thought I'd add a data point...

Half elf ranger, wis 65, int 75, dex 88

First four tries were at level 13, fletching 102 - four fizzles

Got fletching up to 152, using the Cheapest Way to Fletch advice and some borrowed wis items (wis up to 107) from my wife's 35 druid. Got treant wood, did the Kiola Nut Dash, hunted clockworks and spiderlings -- wish I'd known that I could have gotten it from those Widow Hatchlings in Greater Faydark. Went back to Maestyn Trueshot to try my luck again Five fizzles; on the last one, at 3 AM, I put EIGHTEEN MICRO SERVOS in the Fletching kit and presses Combine -- poof. OUCH!

Got to 14th level, raised fletching to 162 - now the planing tool is trivial -- hunted lots of clockworks, made the Kiola Nut Dash again and got killed by the rogue on Sister Island. Buffed Wis up to 107 again, but THIS time I had a pair of Cutthroat Insignia rings (+2 dex apiece) that I bought from a merchant, 5 pp a pair, in Freeport when I went to get treant wood.

I'm not sure if it was the fletching increase or the dex increase -- I've been told that Dex is a fail check for fletching - but this time, the sequence went fizzle - fizzle - fizzle - SUCCESS - fizzle - SUCCESS - SUCCESS - SUCCESS, for the same 50% success rate someone else mentioned. I now had a Trueshot of my own, one for a friend, and two to sell.

I had a LOT of fun doing this quest - it also gave me a chance to explore Faydwer, which I might not have done otherwise.

Excellent! I was wondering about where I needed to get my fletching skills to before I tried this. Also good to know I need to get extras of everything even with a fletching skill of 150+

WRONG! Get it right!

* Int & Wis affect skill ups for ALL trade skills.

* Dex is a secondary ability for Fletching.

* NOTHING affects success other than SKILL LEVEL.

Don't believe me? Go to www.eqtraders.com and check the FAQ. You'll find a quote from Yakatizma, the Trade Skill programmer at Verant.

Ranger 37th Season, fletching at 182. Wis 97, Int 87.
First success with trueshot at 158. At 162 making the trueshot is about 50%. 1 success, 1 failure.
Either way, Good luck to all fletchers out there!
Rangers, the bow is worth it and something you can be proud of owning. If you made it yourself, MORE POWER TO YA!!
It would be nice to be able to make an exotic bow with imbued stats as a fletcher, but then VI would probably make it non tradable. :(
All tradeskills take time, money, and patience. If ya don't have all three what are you doing even trying the trade in the first place???

Best of Luck all, and Good Hunting.

You can get a planing tool from the merhant on the other side of the tree on the same platform as the Trueshot Bows hut. It costs between 10pp and 15pp to buy (closer to 15pp, I think)

9th level ranger to complete quest on 3rd try.
never gave up tunic gave small lanterns to guy upstairs of inn in west freeport in forst room to the left of hall the lady shea is at. he gives you shard chips or such that is the wood you need.
went to sister island going back to BB each time i missed getting back on the boat. used hide and stayed on the dock till boat got back. went to make tonics. found the guy to make wire using tracking was 2 times in the ironworks building by bridges, got wires. put all in bank and went hunting clockworks in SF. got enough for 2 trys got tied went and did quest failed 2 times.
no more servos had ot go back to SF next day. got enough of everthing for at least 10 tries. went back did quest got it on 1st try that day which was my 3rd total try. oh dont forget the spiderling silks heheh i did and had to go back not much in the fays hehehe.
anyways, had 0 skills so it all is luck and no skill involved. and my wis and intel is not much either to talk about. so peole just do it and good luck.
this was on Tarew Marr server, if the server makes a difference but i dont think so. luck of the rolls heheh.. that's it!

Some how I managed to complete the bow last night on my third attempt.
I am a Lvl 9 Wood Elf Ranger, my Fletching skill was only 46.

I sat in disbelief reading the text "You have fashioned something new", with the bow hanging from my cursor (slanting the opposite diagonal from other bows).
As my wife and I closed our gaping mouths, I slowly placed the bow in my range slot as if afraid it would mystically fade away.

I now have a stack of 17 wood chips, 9 Microservos, 4 Dwarven Wire, and enough silk to mummify Maesyn Trueshot. Most of which is useless now since the bow is a Lore item.

I hope your quest is as fortunate as mine...

Here is an advice from my personal experience , do NOT ever atempt to complete this quest , it takes an extremely HUGE amount of time since you only have a very small chance of making the bow whatever your skill is. I know what I am talking about since I have been practicing fletching for decades only to complete this quest. after gigantic sums of monney invested for raising my skill over 152 I have atempted to make the famed trushot longbow.Well no more then a week of gathering materials and killing annoying rogue clockworks in steamfont, day after day when I come back from work, I have failed over 40 atempts at making the bow. Consider that each atempt take twice the material needed you end up looking for micro servos for decades. And yet I have never been able to create the bow. Please listen to me, I do not write this message to annoy anybody, If you dont know what you are going trough do NOT atempt to make this bow. It will only waste your precious time I guarantee you.
RE: Trueshot bows
# Jul 12 2001 at 5:39 PM Rating: Decent
The problem is, 150 skill in fletching is about the minimum for any chance of success. I've made at least a dozen of these so far, my fletching skill is 204. The trueshot is not trivial for me yet. Make a ton more arrows. sell em back to the vendor, make a ton more. I know it sucks and costs a ton of money, but if you hate that, try smithing. You can get your skill up to 202 on arrows alone. High wis, int and cha will help. wis decreases your failure rate, int increases your chance on getting a skill up with each attempt, and cha decreases the amount of money you lose buying and selling to vendors.
RE: Trueshot bows
# Jul 03 2001 at 9:07 AM Rating: Decent
How can you discourage anyone from attempting this quest? For a Ranger of Kelethin of levels 8 or so into the teens, this is THE Quest that defines and develops your Rangerhood. This is why it is called a Quest, because the reward is NOT handed to you on a silver platter. Isn't this the point of participating in an online role-playing game? If not, you can just buy your instant gratification with a pre-made character on e-bay.

In the process of pursuing this Quest, we are learning to travel the world, to track and hunt in the wilds, to fletch and create bows which we can sell for our livelihoods, and to appreciate just what a grand weapon the Trueshot Longbow really is. I cannot give enough praise for the experiences I've had upon this Quest and those allies that I've met in the pursuit of it, though it still be far from over for me.

Slowly bringing my fletching from 91 to 150 and collecting materials for as many attempts as I need...

May Tunare keep you, and teach you to be a zen ranger!
I honestly feel sorry for you
# Jun 17 2001 at 4:19 PM Rating: Default
I understand where this guy is coming from. While I have been sucessful 15 times, I never had a sucsess before a skill of 140. I do not agree with him saying not to try it. I just say do not try before 140. The one thing I do think is that this bow should command a much higher price for what it takes to make. 200pp is not worth my time to make one. I only do this to give bows to guild members. Now that my skill is 175 I usually make the bow 2 out of 5 attempts.

If you want this bow it is a war of attrition. He who holds out longest wins!

Sorry about your luck bro.

RE: I honestly feel sorry for you
# Jun 24 2001 at 6:20 PM Rating: Default
/Agree

I spent 700pp raising my Fletching skill to 171 and finally made my Trueshot 2nd attempt at that level... had about 8 failures at various points between skill 120 and 150 so I really WENT for it on the fletching, and I think it's worth the cost.

Where do i get the pouch that you combine the wood chips in with the other stuff to give to maesyn
RE: combine pouch
# Jun 21 2001 at 7:28 AM Rating: Decent
Go to Maesyn and hail him he will tell you about the bow. Then say, "I will gather the materials" and he will give you the bag and tell you what you need.

On a side note keep in mind that nobody really says this on this site but you need 2 Tumpy Tonics per 1 Dwarven Wire and 2 Dwarven Wire per 1 attempt at the bow. This intern means 4 Kiola nuts per 1 attempt. This screwed me up a bit and i wound up with not enough dwarven wire as everything else and I had to go back to Sister Island to get more nuts.

And a side note on Sister Island. Forget that pirate that everyone talks about worry about the seafury cyclops. I went on the Kiola Dash and missed the boat and as I was waiting on the dock he rose right out of the water and hit me 3 times and I was dead, and I was level 20 at that time. Then went back to do a corpse dash and when I got back on the boat and turned around there he was again headed straight for the dock again luckily everyone was back on the boat as it set sail.

# Jun 14 2001 at 7:04 PM Rating: Default
I went up to Jyle Windshot (the one in the Inn with Lady Shae) and talked to him. Rogues took my lantern he says. Get me a new one. So I gave him a small lantern, and instead of Treant wood, he gives me a wooden heart! Do I look like the Tin man orsomething? How do I get the wood?
RE: Wooden Heart?
# Jun 26 2001 at 6:23 PM Rating: Default
You have to keep trying until he gives you Treant Wood. I read on the Rain Caller quest discussion that he gives a Wooden Heart about once for every 4th lantern or so. The Wooden Heart is for the Rain Caller quest, so you might want to hold onto it (of course, you can't do the Rain Caller until you're in the 40+ level range)

Just a couple of tips for this quest...

1. My fletching skill is 107 and I made the bow on my second attempt.
2. Make sure you get multiple components (Dwarven Wire, Micro Servo's, etc..)as you'd be lucky to assemble this in only 1 try.
3. There are many rogue clockworks near the entrance to the mino caves in Steamfont. In my experience they drop a micro servo approx 20% of the time.
