Introductions

Maesyn Trueshot may be found in the ranger guild in Kelethin at -451.03, 520.32, 116.28.

You say, 'Hail Maesyn Trueshot'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Welcome to Kelethin, ______! I am Maesyn Trueshot, commander of Faydark's Champions. We are the finest marksmen in all of Norrath. With our trusty [Trueshot longbows] we can miss no target regardless of the distance or the conditions.'

You say, 'What Trueshot longbows?'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'The Trueshot Longbow was created by my famed father, Eldin Trueshot. It is quite accurate and takes a ranger's skill to wield. We use our new recruits to [gather materials] needed by my father. We shall soon begin to release the formula to good elves so all may fletch such a bow.'

You say, 'I will gather materials.'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Take this pack. Go to Kaladim, find Trantor Everhot and ask for dwarven wire. Then go to Freeport to meet Jyle Windshot. Search the inns for him and ask him for treant wood. Then, collect some spiderling silk from spiderlings and finally, in Steamfont, we have the permission of the gnomes to use any micro servos we find while destroying rogue spiders. Combine them all and return the pack to me.'

You receive a Material Pack, a 4-slot MEDIUM container.

Dwarven Wire

Trantor Everhot may be found wandering around North Kaladim.

You say, 'Hail, Trantor Everhot'

Trantor Everhot says 'Yes, yes!! I am a very busy man. I've got blueprints to work on, [dwarven wire] to perfect and formulae to calculate. In between those tasks, I have to find time to head down to Irontoe's and down a few Tumpy Tonics.'

You say, 'What dwarven wire?'

Trantor Everhot says 'Oh!! Interested in my dwarven wire, are you? Many are. I have no problem letting you use a spool, but I have to warn you that I have not perfected the strength of it yet. I will make you a trade. A couple of [Tumpy Tonics] for a spool.'

You say, 'What Tumpy Tonics?'

Trantor Everhot says 'Aaah!! I love Tumpy Tonics. They were created by Tumpy Irontoe. He was once a member of the famed Irontoe Brigade. Since they disbanded and left for parts unknown he decided to stay in Kaladim and open Irontoe's, the finest well in Faydwer.'

You can get Tumpy Tonics from Tumpy Irontoe or brew them yourself (1 Kiola Nut + 1 Water Flask in a brew barrel, trivial 135). You'll need four of them for the quest, so make sure you get enough. Give two to Trantor Everhot unstacked.

Trantor Everhot says 'Hey!! Only one?!!'

Trantor Everhot says 'Great!! I did not have the time to get down to Irontoe's today. Here. Like I said. A spool of dwarven wire. Now go away. I ain't sharing these tonics.'

Your faction standing with Storm Guard has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Kazon Stormhammer has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Miners Guild 249 has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Merchants of Kaladim has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Craknek Warriors has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience!!

You receive Dwarven Wire. Give him another two Tumpy Tonics unstacked for the second piece of Dwarven Wire.

Treant Wood

Jyle Windshot may be found in West Freeport (a different version of him may be found in East Freeport, but that's for a different quest). Make sure he cons amiably or above.

You say, 'Hail, Jyle Windshot'

Jyle Windshot says 'Hello. Might I ask what you are looking for?'

You say, 'I am looking for treant wood.'

Jyle Windshot says 'You are a new courier from the Faydarks. I am sorry I did not stay closer to the docks. I hear that part of Freeport is dangerous and is filled with many rogues. I shall require a new Small Lantern in trade for the Treant Wood.'

You can buy a Small Lantern at many vendors, including Innkeep Palola in North Freeport and Innkeep Harold in East COmmonlands. Give Jyle the lantern.

Jyle Windshot says 'Thanks, friend. I have run a long way to get here in time. Mostly at night. I lost my lantern in a card game in Highkeep.'

Your faction standing with Faydarks Champions has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Clerics of Tunare has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Soldiers of Tunare has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Crushbone Orcs has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience!!

You will probably receive Wooden Shards, which identifies as "Treant Wood Shards." Occasionally you instead receive A Wooden Heart, which identifies as "A Treant Heart." This is used in the subsequent Rain Caller quest.

Other Ingredients

Spiderling silk drops from spiders around the world. Rogue clockworks in Steamfont drop Micro Servos. You'll need at least two Micro Servos, so make sure to collect spares.

The Finale

In the Material Pack, combine 1 Dwarven Wire, 1 Wooden Shards, 1 Spiderling Silk, and 1 Micro Servo to craft a Pack of Materials. Give this to Maesyn Trueshot.

Maesyn Trueshot says 'I shall see that my father gets the materials. I hope this can be of use to you. It will serve as your starting point toward fletching a Trueshot longbow. It is unfortunate that we are unable to enchant the bow to its [next incarnation], but it is still a fine weapon. You do know the [correct components] needed for fletching such a bow, do you not?'

Your faction standing with Faydark's Champions has been adjusted by 25.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Clerics of Tunare has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Soldiers of Tunare has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Crushbone Orcs has been adjusted by -6.
You gain experience!!
You receive 6 gold from Maesyn Trueshot.
You receive 1 platinum from Maesyn Trueshot.

You say, 'What correct components?'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Now that I have crafted the Treant Bow Staff, you shall need one Planing Tool, one Treant Bow Staff, one Micro Servo and one spool of Dwarven Wire. These items will be used with your Fletching Kit as all other bows. Be forewarned, only a Master Fletcher can create such a bow and even a master fails from time to time. Good Luck.'

You receive a Treant Bowstave. Combine this in a fletching kit with a Micro Servo, a piece of Dwarven Wire, and a Planing Tool to craft a Trueshot Longbow (trivial 235).

After doing this, ahem, quest a few million times I finally decided to actually reasearch it. There is another way to get treat wood shards, but for ranger/druid faction I do suggest that you make friends with some evil characters (or people that don't care about where their faction goes). After dealing with the imposter and not knowing what else to do, I was lucky enough to have a friend over in the Karanas killing treants. Gave me a nice little stack of shards that work just the same and saves you some money from having to buy lots of little lanterns.

Glad I know what to do now however. Now to make something out of my bow staff. ^_^

Just made my trueshot. I had a skill of 162 flecthing and I failed three times and made it on the fourth attempt. Suggestion for fletching, fletch in your hometown and buy a set of CHA gear it will help with money and also will help in the long run whenever you have to sell

I got my Trueshot on my 4th attempt. The most frustrating part of the quest, is finding the rogue clockworks and getting enough Micro Servos. I was down to my last try and lucked out.
Does anyone have any info about the Rainmaker Quest? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

It is a RainCaller Bow, also known as Enchanted Trueshot Longbow. It is listed near TrueShot on the "range" slot list of equipment, which links to the very informative forum on how to do it. Sounds like a seriously tough Quest, needing a full team of prtty decent players. Cheers, Eddwynn the Dwf War and Eddwynd the Elven Ranger.

The Jyle in West Freeport gives out treant wood for Small Lanterns. The Jyle in East Freeport gives out treant wood for Ranger Tunic and 2gp, or at least that's what he claims. I don't have a guild tunic, so can't test it. From conversations with both of them, it seems likely they're the "same" person.

Maybe the Jyle in East Freeport was the "original." Maybe there were enough of us rangers crying that we hadn't had our guild tunics for a long while. So they made the other Jyle in West Freeport...

Just to clarify on the other response you got, the one in East Freepot is a dirty, dirty liar. Give the one in West Freeport lanterns for your treant wood shards.

Rogue or Runaway?
# Jan 22 2002 at 7:26 PM Rating: Decent
I spent an hour hunting Rogue clockworks, without finding anything. All of the sudden, a Runaway Clockwork shows up on tracking. I had never heard of one of these before so i tracked it down and it dropped a micro server. I keep hearing that the rogue clockworks drop them too. Which one of them is more common to drop it?

> I spent an hour hunting Rogue clockworks, without finding anything.

They can be found near the windmills or near the Minbo cave. To go there just follow the path as you zone and take the right way IIRC at the crossroads

> All of the sudden, a Runaway Clockwork shows up on tracking.

hehehe. peeckaboo :)

> I keep hearing that the rogue clockworks drop them too.

Yep, you'd better hunt clockworks, but I noticed at the time I got there for my bow that it was no need to get blues (and lose too many hps), greens have the same drop rate

> Which one of them is more common to drop it?

clockworks i've killed dropped servos quite frequently, but i've never seen a runaway clockwork drop a single one (in my own experience). Also no need to go to close to mino slavers, those pesky elementals (who tend to gang up on you at the worst moment :), or the kobold missionnary. At your level, stay near the windmills there'll be enough of them plus some cats and skellies to get.

Take care

!@#$ Microservers
# Jan 22 2002 at 12:19 PM Rating: Default
My friends and I are working on this quest right now and I must say that the Microservers are extremely frustrating.

First off, on Firiona Vie, the trivial loot code is in effect which means that runaway clockworks and some Rogue Clockworks are of no use to us. (2 14th season Rangers and 1 15th season Druid.) Which is a shame because the runaways are all over the place.

The next frustration may have been bad timing but there were at least 2 other parties hunting the rogue clockworks at the same time as us. We'd all stand around hitting track everytime it came up and suddenly everyone would be off and running. It often came down to luck as to who happened to hit track the second the rogue clockwork spawned or who was standing closest to the spawn pt. Or, who wasn't otherwise engaged, which leads me to the next frustration.

For the higher level rogue clockworks we're camping the area around the minotaur cave. The place is covered with giant plague rats and elementals. Neither are a serious threat but it is annoying as hell because, while you're wasting time killing them, someone else is off killing the latrest clockwork spawn. By using the widest view I can usually see them coming and avoid them but, as the only member of the party with a magic weapon, I must rush to the aid of my companions whenever they are caught offgaurd by one.

Finally, there's the kobold missionary. I was killed 4 times by him in 4 hours of camping the clockworks! You'll be busy fighting a clockwork, rat or elemental and all of a sudden, blam! 54 damage, 46 damage, etc., loading, please wait.

4 hours and 5 deaths worth of camping produced an underwhelming 4 microservers. 1/2 of what we need to each get 2 goes at the longshot.

Generally speaking, I love the trivial loot code as it prevents farming by high level players, but there are some situations in which it is immensley frustrating.

On the bright side, it's been a fun adventure so far, taking us to new lands, full of opportunities for side quests and new creatures to fight. And when I get my Trueshot, the satisfaction will be all the more knowing that I earned it. Those who say it's not worth doing the quest seem to miss the whole point of Everquest.

Regarding your statement about other people finding the quest worthless, and thusly indicating that they don't get the point of Everquest, I just had to say: Hear, hear. I agree whole-heartedly, and had a great time (if abit frustrating at times) doing this quest. Well put, and good luck on any future attempts at this.

I'm a level 7 haf-elf ranger on vazaelle, and I decide to get myself a trueshot longbow.. I read about all these failures here, but I must be the luckiest sob around then..

I went to steamfont and killed 2 rogue and 4 runaway clockworks, got 6 micro-servo's ( they are supposed to be an uncommon drop?)

after I got all the components I got my fletching skill up to 101, and succeeded at my first attempt of making the bow.. at lvl 7 it's sweet :)(

I must be lucky....

I'm a lvl 13 Ranger on Tallon Zek and I have enough Micro Servos, but my questions from getting the Treant Wood from Jyle Windshots in WFP. Does he only spawn occasionally or do I have to kill someone to make him spawn. I've tracked and found Jyle Windshot (imposter) but haven't yet seen Jyle Windshots. I'm gonna try again tonight, but thought you may be able to shed some light, since you already completed the quest. Thanks

I tried about 2 dozen times around lvl 18 or so, with my fletching at 105 skill, and failed each time, but raised my skill a few times. The most tedious part is easily getting micro servos, as they're a semi-rare drop. Now at lvl 26, and fletching at 125, I'm going to try another 20 times tomorrow, wish me luck!

go to www.eqatlas.com and get a map of kelethin, it will tell you of where to buy fletching kits and supplies.

then check out the Ranger links here and one of them will be for IGN(i think it's the last link on the page), there is an excellent fletching guide there. follow the directions and you'll get to a decent fletching the cheapest way.

when you're practicing flething, only make arrows as they are cheaper than making bows.

Hello everyone,
I'm a 11th lvl ranger and I'm trying for the Trueshot bow I have lvl 30 fleeching and was going to try at lvl 40 fleching ... I thank everyone that posted the trys and retrys. Know now what everyone has gone through I think I might colect 20 servos 10 spider silks 40 Nuts and 10 trent chips..

from 11th season ranger Djeep

BTW. at lvl 11 (Rogue Clockworks are green and it's a pain to find them..) I found up to 20 rogue clockworks and zero runaways and been hunting for 2 1/2 hours and got only 2 servos. Good luck to the next person who trys this quest

I Went back to Steamfront mountains to go an colect 20 Microservos and low and be hold to my amazzement I found the Rogue Clockworks all over the place they all coned Blue. (and for the ones that try this quest try the lotto type /random 200 300 and try to role a die close to or to be 300 and your drops would be more fruitfull) I colected 13 servos in about 40 min that way... And about the needing a high fleching well I beleave that to be true... I got 30 fleching skill and going to get it to 70+ b4 attemping the Trueshot Longbow. And if what everyone has said try and get enuff for 10 Atemps people your garontied at least one bow that way..

Oh!, i almost forgot, this is really important
and NO ONE has seemed to picked up on it yet.

I, as a ranger was indiferent or amiable to everything i saw on the island, between the docks and the inn....BUT there is a named pirate in the inn(amiable) he WILL attack you if you drop a kiola nut on the ground, he says somethin like
"a pirate would never drop such precious booty"
then he attacks you

just thought that would be nice to know for you guys, i'd say he's probably around 15(killed me, was hiting in the 30s)

Just thought that might be useful for anyone who's doin the quest

many thanks goto the person who posted the long Nov.19th post

the only error i found in his post is:

"This quest is good for LVL 8 and up"
yeah, that's right, i did the quest, and fletched the bow, at lvl7

I, got lucky too, i fletched it on my 2nd try, with a skill of 102, i don't know what i'll do with the rest of my parts tho

Got my Trueshot
# Dec 19 2001 at 8:30 PM Rating: Default
I got my Trueshot after about 7 attempts with 109 fletching at level 13. a couple of observations and thoughts from this quest.

micro servos: i got some real good spawns of clockworks at about 7am and 7pm. I was hunting all around the windmills. the best place was in the mino caves valley. i stayed away from the cave entrance, had some rats aggro me, but normally found 5-8 clockworks there at the above times. the clockworks conned dark blue to me, so i actually got decent xp while killing them. during other times of the day, i could search the whole zone and find maybe 2 runaways, while only level 4 and below players were on, so they were not killing rogues. took about 5 hours to collect enough micro servos

The "dreaded" island: this was my biggest problem (5 hours of hell). first time on the island, i missed the boat back. got attacked, did the run to the dock thing and died. go back to retreive my corpse, drag it onto the boat and can't loot it for some reason, zoned out and it disappeared. go back to the island and my corpse is there. start grabbing 1/2 my stuff and just miss the boat. die again. third time... grabbed about 1/2 my stuff get back on boat. ride around again and grab the rest. and the pirate dude will aggro you in the inn, i had hide and sneak on and he still found me.
i have a couple suggestions here.
1. if you're low level, put all your armor in backpacks in the bank in kaladim for this run, that way when you miss the boat leaving the island and die, you don't have much to loot. just carry backpacks and plat with you for your purchases.

2. if you're decent level(13 or so) or have some higher level friends, get 1 or 2 people to accompany you to the island as protection. offer 20 plat a person or whatever. 2 level 13+ should be able to easily kill the guy(he conned yellow to me).

and Thanxmoron's guide rocks!

Ok, this time I won't hit "enter" and put up a blank thread.

Thaxmoron's instructions made a very confusing quest rather simple (for us of simple minds). Don't believe the short version description of this adventure when they tell you that it only takes 4 hours. It will take that long just to collect 8 micro servos. However after you've got that part done, the rest (ok ... boat rides take a while) goes fairly quickly. BE SURE TO PRINT A COPY OF THAXMORON'S INSTRUCTIONS and have it there next to you. It will eliminate the dumb mistakes.

I feel that the chance of actually succeeding in assembling the bow is just random chance. My fletching is only level 100 and I'm a dwarf (we tend to be low on the "brain power"). I made the bow on the third try. Pure Luck. A good thing too, I didn't take the time to gather alot of the servos, I only had three left :).

Once again, thanks Thaxmoron for all the work you put into helping the rest of us.

For what it's worth, the Anonymous post below on November 19, 2001... It's very long, but VERY HELPFUL. I found 99.9% of what that person wrote to be true, and in three evenings of adventuring (15 Real Hrs approx) I managed to gather all the materials necessary for 10 attempts at a bow. I'm now merely waiting for my fletching skill to increase to attempt to make one.

The one thing I did find to not be true - you WILL get aggro'ed in the Inn on the Isle of the Sisters. I missed the Boat while buying the Kiola Nuts, so I hung out in the Inn waiting for the next boat. I was attacked by an NPC pirate. He conned yellow, and did kill me, but I took the advise of the previous post and ran back to the dock so when I died it was easy to drag my corpse back onto the boat. So for you lower levels - get the Hell off that Island as fast as you can and DON'T MISS THE BOAT! =)

Hoping soon to have my Trueshot Bow!

I have read several posts about low lvls obtaining thier bows so I thought I would give it a shot. Well, I am here to tell u that I am now a VERY proud owner of a Trueshot Longbow after my 3rd attempt. I am a Lvl 12 Ranger with a fletching skill of "very bad", 22-25 I think.

I do have a question though. Where do we start the quest to enchant the bow? I will check other sites myself and if I come across the answer I will return and post it here.
