Introductions

Maesyn Trueshot may be found in the ranger guild in Kelethin at -451.03, 520.32, 116.28.

You say, 'Hail Maesyn Trueshot'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Welcome to Kelethin, ______! I am Maesyn Trueshot, commander of Faydark's Champions. We are the finest marksmen in all of Norrath. With our trusty [Trueshot longbows] we can miss no target regardless of the distance or the conditions.'

You say, 'What Trueshot longbows?'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'The Trueshot Longbow was created by my famed father, Eldin Trueshot. It is quite accurate and takes a ranger's skill to wield. We use our new recruits to [gather materials] needed by my father. We shall soon begin to release the formula to good elves so all may fletch such a bow.'

You say, 'I will gather materials.'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Take this pack. Go to Kaladim, find Trantor Everhot and ask for dwarven wire. Then go to Freeport to meet Jyle Windshot. Search the inns for him and ask him for treant wood. Then, collect some spiderling silk from spiderlings and finally, in Steamfont, we have the permission of the gnomes to use any micro servos we find while destroying rogue spiders. Combine them all and return the pack to me.'

You receive a Material Pack, a 4-slot MEDIUM container.

Dwarven Wire

Trantor Everhot may be found wandering around North Kaladim.

You say, 'Hail, Trantor Everhot'

Trantor Everhot says 'Yes, yes!! I am a very busy man. I've got blueprints to work on, [dwarven wire] to perfect and formulae to calculate. In between those tasks, I have to find time to head down to Irontoe's and down a few Tumpy Tonics.'

You say, 'What dwarven wire?'

Trantor Everhot says 'Oh!! Interested in my dwarven wire, are you? Many are. I have no problem letting you use a spool, but I have to warn you that I have not perfected the strength of it yet. I will make you a trade. A couple of [Tumpy Tonics] for a spool.'

You say, 'What Tumpy Tonics?'

Trantor Everhot says 'Aaah!! I love Tumpy Tonics. They were created by Tumpy Irontoe. He was once a member of the famed Irontoe Brigade. Since they disbanded and left for parts unknown he decided to stay in Kaladim and open Irontoe's, the finest well in Faydwer.'

You can get Tumpy Tonics from Tumpy Irontoe or brew them yourself (1 Kiola Nut + 1 Water Flask in a brew barrel, trivial 135). You'll need four of them for the quest, so make sure you get enough. Give two to Trantor Everhot unstacked.

Trantor Everhot says 'Hey!! Only one?!!'

Trantor Everhot says 'Great!! I did not have the time to get down to Irontoe's today. Here. Like I said. A spool of dwarven wire. Now go away. I ain't sharing these tonics.'

Your faction standing with Miners Guild 249 has been adjusted by 1.

You gain experience!!

You receive Dwarven Wire. Give him another two Tumpy Tonics unstacked for the second piece of Dwarven Wire.

Treant Wood

Jyle Windshot may be found in West Freeport (a different version of him may be found in East Freeport, but that's for a different quest). Make sure he cons amiably or above.

You say, 'Hail, Jyle Windshot'

Jyle Windshot says 'Hello. Might I ask what you are looking for?'

You say, 'I am looking for treant wood.'

Jyle Windshot says 'You are a new courier from the Faydarks. I am sorry I did not stay closer to the docks. I hear that part of Freeport is dangerous and is filled with many rogues. I shall require a new Small Lantern in trade for the Treant Wood.'

You can buy a Small Lantern at many vendors, including Innkeep Palola in North Freeport and Innkeep Harold in East COmmonlands. Give Jyle the lantern.

Jyle Windshot says 'Thanks, friend. I have run a long way to get here in time. Mostly at night. I lost my lantern in a card game in Highkeep.'

Your faction standing with Faydarks Champions has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Clerics of Tunare has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Soldiers of Tunare has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Crushbone Orcs has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience!!

You will probably receive Wooden Shards, which identifies as "Treant Wood Shards." Occasionally you instead receive A Wooden Heart, which identifies as "A Treant Heart." This is used in the subsequent Rain Caller quest.

Other Ingredients

Spiderling silk drops from spiders around the world. Rogue clockworks in Steamfont drop Micro Servos. You'll need at least two Micro Servos, so make sure to collect spares.

The Finale

In the Material Pack, combine 1 Dwarven Wire, 1 Wooden Shards, 1 Spiderling Silk, and 1 Micro Servo to craft a Pack of Materials. Give this to Maesyn Trueshot.

Maesyn Trueshot says 'I shall see that my father gets the materials. I hope this can be of use to you. It will serve as your starting point toward fletching a Trueshot longbow. It is unfortunate that we are unable to enchant the bow to its [next incarnation], but it is still a fine weapon. You do know the [correct components] needed for fletching such a bow, do you not?'

Your faction standing with Faydark's Champions has been adjusted by 25.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Clerics of Tunare has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Soldiers of Tunare has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Crushbone Orcs has been adjusted by -6.
You gain experience!!
You receive 6 gold from Maesyn Trueshot.
You receive 1 platinum from Maesyn Trueshot.

You say, 'What correct components?'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Now that I have crafted the Treant Bow Staff, you shall need one Planing Tool, one Treant Bow Staff, one Micro Servo and one spool of Dwarven Wire. These items will be used with your Fletching Kit as all other bows. Be forewarned, only a Master Fletcher can create such a bow and even a master fails from time to time. Good Luck.'

You receive a Treant Bowstave. Combine this in a fletching kit with a Micro Servo, a piece of Dwarven Wire, and a Planing Tool to craft a Trueshot Longbow (trivial 235).

Well, How many Micro Servos do I have to get? I just got 2 and gave 1 to Maeysin Trueshot and he gave me back this stab or whatever. Now I am trying to increase my skill in Fletching. But after that....how many Micros do I have to put in the fletching kit? 1 or 20 or 50? I have no idea!
I always tought that 1 is enough!

You need 2 Micro Servos per try at the bow. One to give to Maesyn, one to put in the fletching kit with all the other components. The same goes for Dwarven Wire as well

A couple suggestions
# Mar 18 2002 at 9:04 AM Rating: Default
I am recently in the midst of completing this quest. I am doing it a little late in my career as I am lvl 38. Being that high a level makes my suggestion a bit easier at this point, but I will continue anyway. As you are going to have to go to antonica for portions of this quest anyway I would suggest by beginning in south karana. For a couple reasons actually. 1) There are plenty of spawns to kill, as well as animals to fear kite. 2) You can pay some kind necro that is whacking treants for treant wood shards and to loot a treant heart for the raincaller upgrade. 3) You just have a run in with a couple rare centaur spawns that can drop a thunderhoof quiver (33% dly reduction). Also, as a bonus, you can camp the centaurs and kill them all day and not get an iota of bad faction for it. Once you are satisfied with your collection of treant pieces you take the boat across Lake Rathetear and run across the Rathe Mountains into the feerot. The Hulking Gorillas that you need the clumps of hair from for raincaller are now at the top of the ramp outside cazic thule. They are only about lvl 28 but there are plenty of types of Tae Ew that con blue to me at lvl 38. so you will need a group here, although since there will be a lot of high levels wanting to raid the new CT, you may be able to get some to put a whacking on these guys for you and then you just loot. Once you do that you make the run to freeport. Head to west freeport and find Ping Fuzzlecutter outside the gate in W. Freeport and buy the formula 5000's. Just be careful because they are a drink and you may drink them. You need 10, so buy extra in case you get thirsty. Now take the boat and get off at the first stop which is the isalnd of the sisters of erollisi marr. If you run off the boat with sow to the first hut and just start buying the hell out of the kiola nuts and then run out really quick you shouldnt have to wait for the boat to come back around for you. Once in BB, go to kaladim and get your Tumpy Tonics, then trade em for the dwarven wire. Next head to steamfont and collect your microservos. Before you leave, be sure to head into Akanon and do the Sanfryd Featherhead part of the raincaller quest for the tattered whig. At this point you just need to combine the trueshot once you turn in the components. I have heard this doesnt trivial until skill 235, so definitely have extra components or you will have to repeat thinfs, which I find highly annoying. Now all you have to do for your raincaller is go into kedge and get the golden tresses form the golden haired mermaid. If you are not ina guild, I suggest yuo join one for this purpose. Kedge is tough, and you will die by yourself, period. Anyway, that is my suggestion for saving yourself some run around.
Hope it helps.

Microserv's
# Mar 09 2002 at 8:48 PM Rating: Decent
The microservos drop MUCH more frequently off the runaway clockworks than the giant clockworks. I have a stack in the bank from killing the runaway's. Another option is to, while killing to collect your own, offer 2-5pp to anyone who will let you loot one. Make sure you remind ppl they are no drop in your auction.

Ok three times now I've taken the materials to
Maesyn Trueshot and handed them to him in the
bag given to me. All three times all I get are thank yous and nothing else. I thought maybe it
had to do with the "wood shards" I get from Jyle rather than "Treant wood," but someone seems to
be saying this is the proper item... what am I doing wrong?!
RE: Am I Doing Something Wrong?
# Mar 07 2002 at 7:50 AM Rating: Default
I hope you 'combined' the items after placing them in the bag before you handed it to him. I'm sure that if you handed him an uncombined bag, he would react in the way you are describing. Try it again... the treant wood shards, spiderling silk, dwarven wire, and the micro servo. Make sure you have a micro servo as well, it has 5 points on it.
Made it!

My level 15 Ranger was successful today at making his Trueshot bow. I set out with the goal of gathering enough components for 10 attempts, and to attempt it with a fletching skill of 100.

The most annoying part was the 3 days hunting I spent in Steamfront tracking down enough Clockworks to get a full stack of Microservers, you need 2 per attempt.

He as successful on his 6th attempt.

Total Raw components needed to be bought or hunted:

20 Microservers
10 Spiderling Silks
10 Small Lanterns - for the wood
40 Kiola nuts
20 Flasks of Water.

Rangers that buy their Trueshots are lame. Its easy enough to do if you are persistant, and its fun. Nothing feels better than knowing youve earned your items.
Trueshot
# Mar 03 2002 at 1:15 AM Rating: Decent
Wood shards are the correct item.

I have sold many Trueshots for 150pp each. One downfall is you can only have one at a time. And only one staff as a backup once you sell the bow itself.

Are the staffs lore as well? Is that why you can't have more than one?
Do they sell well?
# Feb 25 2002 at 11:34 AM Rating: Default
How well do these bows sell? Can you regularly get 150pp per bow? I want one for myself, but would also be willing to do the quest again if I could earn that kind of plat per bow.

I have yet to successfully make the bow. My fletching skill is at 139. Does anyone know the trivial on making the Trueshot bow?

hey folks......justed wanted to let you know my thoughts on this quest.

i gathered enough materials for 6 trys and failed all six. then i had to go back to freeport and isle to get more treant wood and kiola nuts. then to steamfront for more microservers. on the 7th try, i finally made the trueshot bow at 141 fletching skill. i spent about 12 hrs from beginning to end gathering materials. most of my time was spent in steamfront trying to get microservers. one evening i killed approx. 40 rogue and runaway clockworks and only one microsever drop. the next day i spent 1 hr killing the clockworks and 5 dropped. then, the next day i spent about 2 hrs and collect 6 more microservers. let me know if you have any questions about the quest. you can email me at eqfun@attbi.com.
Treant Wood Shard?
# Feb 19 2002 at 2:14 PM Rating: Default
So I found Jyle Windshots and gave him the small lantern and in exchange got some wood shards. However, it doesn't specifically say Treant wood shard, just wood shard. Is this the right stuff, or do I need to do something else?
RE: Treant Wood Shard?
# Feb 23 2002 at 11:13 AM Rating: Default
they must have messed with this quest somehow, i think. I also have only gotten wooden shards and a wooden hart from Jyle Windshot. I played a Ranger on another server before and he gave me treant wood. Guess we may have to hit South Karana and buy some from those killing treants.

Looking for any advantage I can get.

From what I've seen during my attempts to make a Trueshot for my Ranger, everyone seems to concentrate on the giants. I don't think they realize that any Runaway Clockwork will drop Micro Servos. I think I got more off the little ones than I did off the giant ones.

As for the Kiola Nuts, my Ranger kept getting jumped while buying them. So I had my Druid pick up as many as he could (and kill each of those #@#$@#$# pirates), turn them in for the Tonics, then go out to a private spot and transfer the Tonics to my Ranger.

And for the record, it took me about 10 tries with a Fletching skill of 107. I went out and accummulated about 3 stacks of each component and got lucky on my 10th try. Then I suffered from reverse frustation - I had all this No Drop stuff I didn't need anymore!
Unlucky?

I have been reading about the success rates some people have with this and I am particularly cheesed off with the person with 50 fletch who suceeded on the first attempt.
So far I have had 23 failed attempts with skill 140-150. The really annoying thing is that I had 140 fletch at lvl 17 - and now I'm lvl 30 and I still don;t have a trueshot. =(
Anyway, I'm heading back to Stone soon for another session of mass slaughter - wish me luck.

If you are hunting down rogue clockworks for micro servos you'll get no where fast. I spent hours using track to hunt down these I decided to look more for the runaway clockworks. I got a micro servo off the first one I killed. A good place to hunt for them is by the druid rings and the entrance to the mino caves. Make sure you stock up on them too if you plan to do this quest more than once because you'll need one to turn in to Trueshot as well as to make the bow with. I made the Trueshot 1st time with a 50 fletching skill where my friend with a 140 still hasn't made it after 7 tries so get out there as a young ranger and give it a shot.

I don't think you should be having any trouble with faction, although I suppose I can't be sure. It could be you didn't try the right person. I had a bit of trouble actually finding her at first. There is only 1 vendor in the Inn on the Isle of the Sisters. I believe she is generally nearby the door of the Inn, behind a desk. The Inn, by the way, if I recall, is the building near the docks and on the left (facing away from the docks). I didn't find her for a short while myself, and was quite confused by it. Just a thought. I hope this helps.

You're at the wrong island! If you leave East Freeport the ship goes North for a bit then North West, if you have your tracking on you will notice you can track Sisters of I***!!?? and the island they are on has a place where you can buy kiola nuts, it was the first stop after leaving East Freeport. Beware of the pirates at 10th level. I went to the island you mention more than once and it's got nothing doing! But by chance I left my tracking on as above to find the island.

has anyone found out how to get the enchantment which supposedly makes trueshot bows even better?
The guy in the ranger guild mentions something about koada dal or something like that, are they the high elves in Felwithe?
RE: Trueshot buff

He's talking about making your Trueshot the Rain Caller. I believe the person he is talking about is in Felwithe, enchanter hall. There is a quest guide on this site. JUst do an item search for "rain caller" and a description of the item should appear, along with a link on the quest to get it (and it certainly seems to be no mean feat, by the way).
I have my Trueshot Longbow
# Feb 07 2002 at 6:36 AM Rating: Default
Just thought I would put in my two cents about this quest.
I have succeeded at creating a Trueshot Longbow at Level 15, with Fletching 140, on the 5th attempt.
Yes, Those Microservos are a pain. Lukily I never really had to deal with any other people desperately after microservos or anything else, so I just ran around Steamfont and killed every clockwork that spawned. Mosly just ran between the windmillls and the zone to Lfay, and occaissionally back toward Ak'Anon to check for Runaway clockworks. I had enough after a couple days of somewhat lax searching.
As far as getting Kiola nuts, yes there is a good chance of death if your alone at the level I was (14). A pirate conned yellow, and killed me (it was close though...). Someone earlier recommended you drag the corpse onto the boat, and I would say this is a bad idea entirely. YOu can not loot on the ship, or drag when it's moving. I ended up losing my corpse for a while, and falling through the world as well. I don't know if the corpse automatically ended up on the Isle of the Sisters again, or if that crazy GM moved it there, but eventually I found it, with some help from some charitable higher level characters, who rezed me, buffed me, and one of which accompanied me back to Butcherblock.
My biggest piece of advice, obviously: Don't Drag Your Corpse Onto the Boat!
I then kept my components for it in the bank for a while, while I upped my fletching skill more.
I finally gave it a try, and succeeded on my 5th attempt at Level 15, with 140 fletching skill.

Servo Hunting
# Feb 06 2002 at 11:18 AM Rating: Decent
Dont quote me on this, but I think the elementals around the mino caves are on the same spawn table as the big clockworks. I'd gotten about 15 servos in several hours of camping, when I noticed that the elementals and the clockworks basically move around in the same way--they stay still for long periods with occasional moves, unlike the other creatures in the area, which mosly move constantly. So I tried attacking them while bored and waiting for spawns, and it seemed to me that not long after killing an elemental a clockwork often showed up on radar. I actually saw four in the mino area simultaneously at one point, when before I'd never seen more than a pair. I got my last 5 servos in about an hour.

Hope that helps.

And for the record, my Trueshot took 2 attempts at 136 fletching.

This is a really good question, and one I saw asked a long time ago. I have one of these too (I got one of these out of the ten lanterns I gave Jyle.) An answer I'd seen posted (from maybe six months ago)was that the wooden heart could be used to either make or upgrade another bow. I've never tried it, but would be really interested in knowing if anyone else has.

Otherwise, it's just taking up room in the bank.
