Introductions

Maesyn Trueshot may be found in the ranger guild in Kelethin at -451.03, 520.32, 116.28.

You say, 'Hail Maesyn Trueshot'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Welcome to Kelethin, ______! I am Maesyn Trueshot, commander of Faydark's Champions. We are the finest marksmen in all of Norrath. With our trusty [Trueshot longbows] we can miss no target regardless of the distance or the conditions.'

You say, 'What Trueshot longbows?'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'The Trueshot Longbow was created by my famed father, Eldin Trueshot. It is quite accurate and takes a ranger's skill to wield. We use our new recruits to [gather materials] needed by my father. We shall soon begin to release the formula to good elves so all may fletch such a bow.'

You say, 'I will gather materials.'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Take this pack. Go to Kaladim, find Trantor Everhot and ask for dwarven wire. Then go to Freeport to meet Jyle Windshot. Search the inns for him and ask him for treant wood. Then, collect some spiderling silk from spiderlings and finally, in Steamfont, we have the permission of the gnomes to use any micro servos we find while destroying rogue spiders. Combine them all and return the pack to me.'

You receive a Material Pack, a 4-slot MEDIUM container.

Dwarven Wire

Trantor Everhot may be found wandering around North Kaladim.

You say, 'Hail, Trantor Everhot'

Trantor Everhot says 'Yes, yes!! I am a very busy man. I've got blueprints to work on, [dwarven wire] to perfect and formulae to calculate. In between those tasks, I have to find time to head down to Irontoe's and down a few Tumpy Tonics.'

You say, 'What dwarven wire?'

Trantor Everhot says 'Oh!! Interested in my dwarven wire, are you? Many are. I have no problem letting you use a spool, but I have to warn you that I have not perfected the strength of it yet. I will make you a trade. A couple of [Tumpy Tonics] for a spool.'

You say, 'What Tumpy Tonics?'

Trantor Everhot says 'Aaah!! I love Tumpy Tonics. They were created by Tumpy Irontoe. He was once a member of the famed Irontoe Brigade. Since they disbanded and left for parts unknown he decided to stay in Kaladim and open Irontoe's, the finest well in Faydwer.'

You can get Tumpy Tonics from Tumpy Irontoe or brew them yourself (1 Kiola Nut + 1 Water Flask in a brew barrel, trivial 135). You'll need four of them for the quest, so make sure you get enough. Give two to Trantor Everhot unstacked.

Trantor Everhot says 'Hey!! Only one?!!'

Trantor Everhot says 'Great!! I did not have the time to get down to Irontoe's today. Here. Like I said. A spool of dwarven wire. Now go away. I ain't sharing these tonics.'

You receive Dwarven Wire. Give him another two Tumpy Tonics unstacked for the second piece of Dwarven Wire.

Treant Wood

Jyle Windshot may be found in West Freeport (a different version of him may be found in East Freeport, but that's for a different quest). Make sure he cons amiably or above.

You say, 'Hail, Jyle Windshot'

Jyle Windshot says 'Hello. Might I ask what you are looking for?'

You say, 'I am looking for treant wood.'

Jyle Windshot says 'You are a new courier from the Faydarks. I am sorry I did not stay closer to the docks. I hear that part of Freeport is dangerous and is filled with many rogues. I shall require a new Small Lantern in trade for the Treant Wood.'

You can buy a Small Lantern at many vendors, including Innkeep Palola in North Freeport and Innkeep Harold in East COmmonlands. Give Jyle the lantern.

Jyle Windshot says 'Thanks, friend. I have run a long way to get here in time. Mostly at night. I lost my lantern in a card game in Highkeep.'

Your faction standing with Faydarks Champions has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Clerics of Tunare has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Soldiers of Tunare has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Crushbone Orcs has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience!!

You will probably receive Wooden Shards, which identifies as "Treant Wood Shards." Occasionally you instead receive A Wooden Heart, which identifies as "A Treant Heart." This is used in the subsequent Rain Caller quest.

Other Ingredients

Spiderling silk drops from spiders around the world. Rogue clockworks in Steamfont drop Micro Servos. You'll need at least two Micro Servos, so make sure to collect spares.

The Finale

In the Material Pack, combine 1 Dwarven Wire, 1 Wooden Shards, 1 Spiderling Silk, and 1 Micro Servo to craft a Pack of Materials. Give this to Maesyn Trueshot.

Maesyn Trueshot says 'I shall see that my father gets the materials. I hope this can be of use to you. It will serve as your starting point toward fletching a Trueshot longbow. It is unfortunate that we are unable to enchant the bow to its [next incarnation], but it is still a fine weapon. You do know the [correct components] needed for fletching such a bow, do you not?'

Your faction standing with Faydark's Champions has been adjusted by 25.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Clerics of Tunare has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Soldiers of Tunare has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Crushbone Orcs has been adjusted by -6.
You gain experience!!
You receive 6 gold from Maesyn Trueshot.
You receive 1 platinum from Maesyn Trueshot.

You say, 'What correct components?'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Now that I have crafted the Treant Bow Staff, you shall need one Planing Tool, one Treant Bow Staff, one Micro Servo and one spool of Dwarven Wire. These items will be used with your Fletching Kit as all other bows. Be forewarned, only a Master Fletcher can create such a bow and even a master fails from time to time. Good Luck.'

You receive a Treant Bowstave. Combine this in a fletching kit with a Micro Servo, a piece of Dwarven Wire, and a Planing Tool to craft a Trueshot Longbow (trivial 235).

People say that they've made this bow at a low level, or that they've had problems. I made this bow at level 21, but I've been trying since level 10. It was just an exercise in frustration! You may want to save you time, get your fletching up, and try when you're a little higher level.

Good luck!
RE: Made in finally!

Your level means nothing. Level one character could conceivably make the combine. Fletching is everything on the combine, but even that is relative.

I was successful at 120 fletching on the first try (or first few, I don't remember). See my other post on this thread.
Micro Servo
# Oct 17 2003 at 11:08 AM Rating: Decent
They may have changed the zone, but it is still possible to get the micro servo's. Did this part of the quest the other day. Got 10 micro servo's in less than 45 min. I had help from a friend, and just clear'd their spawn points. They rogue clockworks share spawn points with just about everything north west of the windmill's. Just start killing everything that moves, and you should have no trouble getting them. Once again. I got 10 servo's in LESS than 45 min.

Any Help will be greatly appercated.

I fletched my first Trueshot on my first attempt at skill of 72, and sold it for a good price. I fletched my second at a skill of 98 on about the 5th or 6th attempt. Just to show that it *is* possible ;)

My Personal Trueshot Saga:
I'd heard that you needed a fairly high fletching skill (120+) to succeed in fletching the bow. I, being the hardcore masta ranja foo that I am, did it with a fletching of 80 on my first try, largely due to my prior performance of the neked uber good luck dance. The whole quest took me approx 4 hours from start to finish. A perfect and time-effecient walkthrough is at http://www.angelflame.com/ranger/trueshot.html And BTW, the best way to get microservers in my experience is to clear Steamfront Mts. of anything that dosent start with "a" and ends in "clockwork", then go do something else for a few hours. Later, rinse repeat. Got 5 servos first wipe, 6 the second. Hope this gives some hope to ye fledgling fletchers, and good luck.
Jyle: real and not
# Aug 09 2003 at 3:12 PM Rating: Decent
Just thought I would bring this point to the top. DO NOT give your ranger guild tunic to Jyle in East freeport, he is an imposter! instead search for the one in... west freeport. This will give you the treant wood and the faction.
Micro Servo's Everwhere.....

If you go to the windmills and go over 3 hills southeast from the third (3rd) windmill, there are Rogue and Runaway Clockworks everywhere. I was there for 1 hour and walked away with five (5) Micro Servo's.

Hope this helps...

why not?
# May 14 2003 at 6:57 AM Rating: Decent
I am debueing in Norrath as a human ranger. I'm of 34th season now with a fletching skill of 132. I was exploring the minutaur caves when I came across my first clockwork anything. I was curiouse about the drops, so I killed every one I found. (I just liked the sound it made when i hit them.=) It was'nt long before I came across a micro servo, something I'd heard of as part of the Trueshot Longbow quest, so I figured... why not?

I started looking into the things it would take to complete the quest, and it seemed within my reach. Unfotunately, I'm missing anything regarding the Champions of Faydark faction standing requirements I will need to get Maesyn Trueshot to find me worthy of the quest.

Any input on that would be met with gratitude!
(I hope it's not a racial thing!) p.s. I am indifferent to him.

Do not be afraid to fail at the combine. Just make sure that you multiquest all the non-lore items. Keep in mind that the components on this are relatively cheap, at least as far as plat goes. I have STACKS of the components in the bank. Due to the Lore nature of most of the components, I usually have one of each stage of the bow (raw components, open bag, completed bag, bowstaff, bow in shared, bow on trader).

When I manage to sell one, I filter them down. Trader retrieves bow from shared, Ranger (travels to Kelethin bank for items then to ranger guild) crafts new bow from bowstaff, turns in completed materials pack for a bowstaff, completes teh combine for a new completed materials pack, talks to Trueshot for new materials pack. Sounds much more complicated than it is.

That is the beginning of the Raincaller quest. Which uses Trueshot as a component.
just one tunic?
# May 02 2003 at 5:17 AM Rating: Decent
Just wondering why wood elf rangers have to turn in their first tunic to get the treant shards for the trueshot material anyway? I have tried to give Jyle a small lantern but he keeps saying he doesnt need it. We only get one tunic so it makes it difficult to get the treant heart from him without taking another poor unknowing rangers chance from him by buying or trading for his first tunic.
RE: just one tunic?
# May 14 2003 at 12:00 PM Rating: Decent
to get the tunic why don't you make a new character as a ranger and do a transfer of his tunic to your main. then delete the new character. you can do this for as many tunics as you need.
RE: just one tunic?
# May 12 2003 at 7:50 AM Rating: Decent
I did this part of the quest last night with no problems. You hail him and Jyle asks something like "what do you want?" You have to reply "I want treant wood." He then goes into a dialog about what a wussie he is and he needs lanterns. I came prepared with 4 lanterns and got all the treant wood I needed.
RE: just one tunic?
# May 08 2003 at 7:10 AM Rating: Decent
And besides which, I just gave him my tunic, faction hits as follows:
Faydark Champions WORSE
King Tearis Thex WORSE
Clerics of tunare WORSE
Soldiers of Tunare WORSE
Crushbone Orcs BETTER

Why on earth would you get such faction hits?! I certainly hope it wasn't too much of a hit, I'm on my way back to Gfay to find out...
Lore Bowstaves
# Apr 29 2003 at 10:19 AM Rating: Good
One thing you need to know if you are collecting enough materials for multiple tries - which I learned the hard way, much to my dismay. The treant bowstaves that Maelyn gives you are LORE. You can only have one at a time. So don't sit there and combine multiple bags of ingredients expecting to get multiple bowstaves - you will only get one, and all your hard-earned materials will be gone forever!! Thankfully, my fletching is 201, so the one staff I ended up with gave me a bow...

Trying this with second ranger. They've changed Steamfont with the new armor quests for the gnomes of Ak'Anon. The rogue clockworks spawn very sporadically now and the runaway clockworks drop microservos very very rarely now... Been averaging about 4 microservos in 3 hours...or about 2 shots at the bow. Suggest getting fletching above 120 before attempting or being very very patient hunting microservos. Hunting microservos the first time wasn't quite so time consuming.

Just wanted to put the info that if you don't have a good enough faction with Maesyn Trueshot, you can give lanterns to Jyle and raise your faction fast with Maesyn. If your faction isn't good enough with Jyle you can give muffins bought in FP to Pandos right down the hall from Jyle.

This is an alternative to killing orcs in crushbone or Greater Faydark.

You need this faction to start the Ranger Epic anyway.

53 stacks of muffins to Pandos gets you to Ally (it also gets you one fat Dwarf - and RSI - you gotta give them to him in 4 lots of single muffins, no stacks).

Didn't cost that much either.

I've now got 132 skill in fletching, and have failed this bow well over 20 times.. so I decided that the satisfaction of making my own wasn't worth it, and went to the bazaar to buy the bow for less than half of what it cost me to get my fletching skill this high -_- only Verant can make one feel so violated.. my Ranger cries herself to sleep at night in a fetal position..

Some tips on Steamfont

Since any way of doing this quest without a fletch of several thousand involves spending a long time in Steamfont looking for those Micro Servos (don't know if they've changed the drops since some people posted here, but they're not as frequent as suggested), here are ten tips on things to do if bored...or if not, really.

1. If you are still trying to get your fletching up, supplement the massive amount of money it needs by killing young plague rats whenever you see them. They usually travel in groups of 4 and drop plague rat tails about 25% of the time, which you can sell for 1.5 plat. Not bad for common mobs which are green to most people doing this quest.

2. When looking for the spiders on track, be aware that only 'rogue clockwork' or 'runaway clockwork' are spiders. If you see 'a rogue clockwork' or 'a runaway clockwork' that will be a little gnome clockwork. So if it has 'a' in front of the name, ignore it, because it won't drop servos.

3. The best place to find the spiders is in a line from the entrance from LF to the entrance to the Minotaur caves where the Kobald Missionary runs around. Your track should pick up all along that route (for reference my track is at 70)

4. Watch out for that Missionary there if you're less than level 25.

5. The size of the spider seems to have no relation to the probability of a drop - ie you may as well go for the small ones given a choice. Certainly don't ignore them and simply camp the large ones around the Missionary.

6. Read up on the Hero Bracers quest on this site - if you can get a group together, or run into a generous high level (40+) who is willing to help you out, try and take out the Minotaur Hero when waiting for spiders to spawn. You will have completed the most difficult part of the Hero Bracers quest.

7. Take all the scrap metal you have found on the spiders and use it in the Scrap Metal quest (search here under the Ak'kanon zone). If you have been killing green clockworks for days like me, you may be glad of the xp.

8. Remember, there is a clockwork fletcher in the middle windmill if you want to raise skill and kill time.

9...er...

10. That's it.

Finally finished my quest...notes:

The big VERY IMPORTANT UBER NOTE is before trying any Trueshot combine GET A HIGH LEVEL DEX BUFF. Shamans of 40ish up have this, gives you +40-50 dex. I don't care what people tell you about only fletching skill affecting a combine, I say to them ********* This was what finally allowed me to fletch my bow, someone I know fletched 2 at 131 skill because of this buff - there are other stories out there as well, just get the thing.

Firstly, don't plan to do this quest alone until you have finished it. Continuous Trueshot questing is liable to lead to a killing spree. No, not in the game. 90% of the time on this quest will be spent hunting clockworks in Steamfont, which is entirely maddening, gives you no xp, and is tedious to solo (around mino caves) if you are under lvl 16-17, due to the long downtime involved. Faydwer is a large island with lots of lovely things to do, go explore it inbetween micro servo hunting sessions. Get money in Butcherblock, get xp in Crush, get killed in Lesser Faydark, just do something else inbetween failed Trueshot combines to take your mind off it.

Secondly, part of the usefulness of this quest is getting your fletching up high, don't understand why people are complaining about that here. Yes it is expensive, but it is also very USEFUL. I now have a Fletch of 161, and am starting to make some good money from it. Don't give up at 132 like muggins in the post above - around 168 you start to trivial on some really worthwile bows that you can sell to high lvl players with lots of money...see how this works? Any lower, you risk loosing the (very expensive) components of more difficult bows, or can only trivial ones which higher levels will not buy. The money you spend during the Trueshot quest can be made back quickly selling a few shaped oak bows a week or two down the line. Broke? Go to ButcherBlock and /ooc camp check.

Thirdly, I recommend trying 6 combines (12 micro servos) every 10 fletching lvls from 112 (however much you want to start at 102, don't - it's too low). Those 12 servos are a good 12hrs hunting in steamfont.

Fourthly, Micro Servo spawning...had a lot of time to work this out. Over all clockwork spiders, there seems to be the same rate of drop - ie the big ones don't drop servos more often. See previous post for more info like this on clockwork spiders. There are 4 spawning grounds for them; straight ahead (past Gorehorn encampment) out of the LF zoneline; the newbie area between the Druid stones and the Grikbar camp; the low level area off the windmills (on other side of hill encroaching mino cave area); and the mino cave area. Easiest place to hunt them is the mino cave area (if you are 16+), for which there is a spawn cycle - kill Lesser Ebon Drakes and you will make Rogue Clockworks pop, best time to do it is between daybreak and 12pm. God I've spent too much time there. DO NOT believe what you read on here about the drop/spawn rates of the servos, even from very good posts like that of Woneye below (great post mate, helped a lot, cheers). As of Feb 2003, the drop rate crawls along, expect to hunt for at least a day to get 12 servos. I and several other people have also noticed that if you come into a clean Steamfont (ie clockworks haven't been hunted for a while, quite a few wandering around) you can get 3-4 to drop clearing up the zone, but once you have done this the drop rate will plummet. Aha you may say, but that's just because you are now picking up individual spawns, which is bound to take longer. Nope - after thinking I was just imagining this for a week, I tested it; when clearing up the zone I got 3 servos in 10 spiders - it then took another 15 spiders to get 1 servo, and only 2 in the next 10. Tried this on 2 separate days, got roughly the same result. As I said, other people have found the same. Moral is, clean up in one big sweep then bugger off for a few hours and let it respawn.

Finally, addition to the 'things to hunt for fletching money' bit above; mountain brownies in the mino cave area are loaded, kill them lots, and minotaur blood can be sold at the Bazaar for 10-20PP to tradeskill PC's, so have a crack at those slavers.

I managed to finally fletch my Trueshot at 161 afer 40 odd attempts (I lost count) and at least 1KPP on fletching. These things are easily forgivable once you a) have your Trueshot and b) have a spanking fletch of 161. What was harder to bear was two weeks of fruitless, boring, frustrating, idiotic, unfair, [insert derogatory adjective] hunting clockworks in Steamfont. Personally, I'm quite happy I made the thing myself in the end, but more out of a bloody-minded refusal to give in than as a result of the quest. If this isn't your thing, buy one, and us True Trueshots shall laugh at your puny fletching. If it is, probably now is a good time to clear your desktop of anything fragile...

I'm a bit late here, I know, but I want to clarify something before anyone new to the game starts getting the wrong impression.

[quote=Orientis]I don't care what people tell you about only fletching skill affecting a combine, I say to them *****************
I'll say the same to you, sir.
Baseline, any tradeskill uses Intelligence or Wisdom (whichever is higher) to determine if a combine will produce a SKILLUP, not a successful attempt. In the case of Fletching, Dexterity will be used in place of Intelligence or Wisdom, provided it's higher than the two.

This small fact can be checked up on the character creation screen in-game, by clicking on the stat for more information on what effect a higher or lower score has on your character. :P

As far as the combine goes, you will find that the closer your skill is to 200, the chance of success will step up a good bit. My personal recommendation is to have a fletching skill level of 190+ to attempt this, unless you have backup materials on you, or are willing to spend the time to get more in order to save money on working up your fletching.
RE: Some tips on Steamfont

Great notes and tips, Orientis. You too Woneye. I didn't have Orientis' tips when I did my Trueshot quest...just Woneye's...but those were plenty. I am one of those fortunate few who Karana favored with a 'first-try' Trueshot bow fletching experience. Not bragging, don't know why it happened for me, it just happened. Things I did to help:

1) Got my fletching up to 153 before trying. Spent a ton of pp doing this, but I know it helped.

2) Got a KEI as Varnerja did; INT was 97, WIS was 102 and my DEX was 101 when I tried. Don't know if these stats are even used when fletching but again...it worked.

The thing Orientis said about the clockworks is true...kill 'em all, loot your Micro Servos and get the heck out of there for a while. If you insist on camping/farming the clockworks and you are high enough level, the Kobold Missionary pops often and is fun to take out, the Mountain Brownies are good for sport, and I was even able to decapitate Meldrath the Malignant (with the help of my good friend Shahndel, a level 40+ druid) for my Etched Ivy Tunic. Then again I was level 32 when I started this quest. Finished at level 34. Can you say "frustrating"? I like to think I grew as a person...hmmf.

This post isn't meant to instill ire in anyone struggling with this quest, but rather to instill hope. Get your fletching up. Get lots of backup materials together (any extras can be converted to more Trueshots which sell for 200 - 300 pp). Take a break from it every once in a while to work on other skills, quests, level up, have fun, whatever. Get your stats up with whatever buffs you need right before you attempt to fletch it. Be prepared to fail the first few times. Be prepared to feel really friggin' good when you do succeed! I have to admit I celebrated with some Tumpy Tonics I had left over when I made my bow. Take two, they're small :P

Good luck all. And if you're not lucky, follow the tips posted by the smart, friendly, helpful people on this board. They help take luck out of the equation.

As a total newbie to EQ, it made me more than a little irritated to find out that there's basically no possible way to make this bow until high levels. I spent my first 10 levels running around getting the ingredients, thinking it was my "opening quest," only to fail when I tried to fletch the bow. I almost had a heart attack when I saw all my hard-earned ingredients disappear from the fletching kit.

That's when I started doing my research online and found out the real story. And that's also when I found out about how to increase my fletching. I'm now at 17 with a fletching of about 75, and looking for ways to make enough money to bring up my fletching enough to stand a chance.

Well, if any of you veterans are on Xev and have money you want to throw away, find Lendiian and give it to him!

All I can say is that when I finally finish the bow I am going to either jump with joy or beat myself over the head for spending so much time on it. In either case, I will really feel like a ranger when I finally have my trueshot longbow in hand.

p.s. Do I have to have an exceptionally high archery skill to use it?

This quest does not have to wait until high lvls. I had mine by lvl 16. This quest does however require that your fletching skill be quite high on the combine for the bow. Do the quest and work on your fletching skill as a ranger.

As for platinum, at low lvls, loot everything and sell everything. Save the pp. At lvl 5, I took my ranger to Blackborrow and lvled to 13 there. The gnolls dropped armor and the paws and some skins sell for gp's and some armor for a pp. Alot of the paws, backbones stack. Easy to save up the money. I did this quest with a non-twinked ranger. Read posts on suggestions of how to raise your wisdom and charisma and you will find that fletching (and any other tradeskill) will dramatically decrease in cost with high wisdom and charisma.

Hope this helps all the rangers out there. Finaly, do not discourage over this. Trade skills, including fletching and this quest, require patience and dedication.

Regards to all, Aliannon

With only a few (and I mean a few) exceptions, items in EQ have no skill requirement to use. Many newer items have recommended and/or required levels to use, but skill requirements are extremely rare.

The arrival of the Skeletal armies adds another problem to the finding of the microservos. At level 15/16, I can't stay in the zone at night. Add to that I can't hunt Butcherblock goblins for PP to raise fletching the way I used to, and it's getting very frustrating.
Tried about 10 times so far, last 2 with a Fletch of over 145 and still haven't got one.

Never mind, finally got it Yesterday! Yipee! Fletching was up at like 151, and it seemed the last couple days runaway and rogue clockworks became a bit scarce, but as long as it's finished...
Wait, still have the raincaller part. Oh well, long time for that.

Do you have to be a wood elf ranger to complete this quest? There was something in a post below about needing to be wood elf before you could make any of the bows. I am also a follower of Karana. Should i reroll as a wood elf rng of tunare? Im only 11 atm, although ive started so many toons lately ,i know it doesnt take long to get to 10 but it gets so unbelievably boring:P

You do not have to be wood elf or Tunarean to get/make a trueshot. You have to have good faction with the wood elf Ranger's Guild (Faydark's Champions, I believe). Whether you're Tunarean or Karanan ranger will determine what bow it is upgraded to. Karanan rangers get the Rain Caller. I believe the Tunarean equivalent is the Blessed Faydark Stinger (although I am unsure about this, I rarely pay attention to the tree huggers, /wink)

no no no...
The upgrade to the Trueshot is the Rain Caller. You do that via this quest.

The Blessed Faydark Thunderbolt is a wood elf cultural fletching recipe that creates a Tunare-only bow. The equivalent Karana-only bow is the Eternal Tempest Compound Bow. There are other Tunare / Karana only bows that have lesser stats, too: Tunare - Blessed Faydark Stinger/Cloudburster/Swiftbolt & Karana - Blessed Gale/Hurricane/Squall Compound Bow.

I am looking to buy a trueshot long bow from anybody on Fennin Ro server. I think it will be cheaper than working on my fletching skill for now. At level 9 my fletch skill is only at 45. I make all the arrows I need, but want a good bow. Rough Hickory is not all that great. Send me a tell sometime if you have one to sell. I'll try making one another time.
Advice and Micro Servo info
# Jan 02 2003 at 12:26 AM Rating: Decent
My 2cp. The long post below is an excellent reference to complete the Trueshot Longbow quest. I'd just add the following: First I've made 4 Trueshot bows and failed at least 10. All my attempts were made between 100-135 fletch skill. Second, below is my input on getting the micro-servos.

The micro servos still drop off the runaway clockworks and the rogue clockworks but there are now two sets of these mobs in the zone. The ones that dropped the micro servos before and still do are the clockworks that appear as spiders. There are little gnomish robots in zone that have the same names (runaway and rogue clockworks). I killed several of these little gnomish robots and no servos dropped. To make it a little easier for the "track" dependant ranger the spider type still haunt the NE corner of the zone and the little gnomes the SW corner near the gnome city. The spider clockworks and the servos remain relatively uncommon. Be patient and prepared to hunt for a couple of days to get the servos. I'd recommend no fewer than 10 for the Trueshot quester with fletch below 120. Good luck.

Making it

I heard making the bow is just random chance of succeeding, just like when a mob drops something you need its random. I could be wrong, but since people with high or low skill of fletching still make the bow, I can only assume its random creation. As far as being trivial or not, maybe it's the same as doing newbie armor quests; you gain some skill in smithing if you make melee-type armor in a forge, maybe its the same with the bow except its Fletching. Just my 2cp =)

All trade skills are random. Even with the highest skill, there's always that five percent chance of failure. Even at a very low skill, there's SOME chance of success (made a Halas 10lb meat pie at baking 58 once, and ONLY once). As I have somehow become my guilds resident Trueshot producer for everyone that makes a Ranger alt, I can say my success level has definitely increased as my skill increased.
fletching gain

Anybody know if this would be a good alternative to get fletching past 202? *giveing that one had the patience to gather materials*

If you have the time to hunt for the Micro Servos this quest is the cheapest way to trivial your way to 235. It takes 2 stacks of Micro Servos to do 20 attempts at the bow. So be prepared for a lot of useless hunting in Steamfont. The rogue spiders near the minotaur mines are the best source for the Micro Servos that I have found hunting in the last couple months. Though this does not mean they are easy to get. I usually hunt around 2 hours at a time there and get 5 to 10 to drop. If Im lucky more. Best way to get the rogues to spawn is to kill all the other mobs in the area as fast as possible. At 53 this is easy for me and I kill prob 50 spiders an hour or more along with all the other mobs it looks like death warmed over as I run around. This leaves about a 10 percent chance of getting the micro servos to drop. I am at 203 fletching now and I got the last triv on my 7th attempt at the Trueshot. Considering its 250+p an attempt on the next bow in the ******* to get over 202 and the Trueshot costs me only the time to make tons of tumpys tonic, turn in 100s of lanterns, and farm these micro servos the only real big cost is the plane used in the final combine. It costs 12pp each or so and is lost on success of the bow. I have attempted 30 times and made 24 Trueshots and got 1 trivial point so far. At this rate it cost me my time and about 300pp per trivial. If I had tried 30 times with the 250+pp bows Id have used up over 7kpp. Considering the time it takes for the micro servos some may say this is a slow way to do it but costwise (since Im always broke) Its the cheapest for me to get to 235 since that is the minimum trivial for the Trueshot. Ill let you know if I ever get there.
