Introductions

Maesyn Trueshot may be found in the ranger guild in Kelethin at -451.03, 520.32, 116.28.

You say, 'Hail Maesyn Trueshot'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Welcome to Kelethin, ______! I am Maesyn Trueshot, commander of Faydark's Champions. We are the finest marksmen in all of Norrath. With our trusty [Trueshot longbows] we can miss no target regardless of the distance or the conditions.'

You say, 'What Trueshot longbows?'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'The Trueshot Longbow was created by my famed father, Eldin Trueshot. It is quite accurate and takes a ranger's skill to wield. We use our new recruits to [gather materials] needed by my father. We shall soon begin to release the formula to good elves so all may fletch such a bow.'

You say, 'I will gather materials.'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Take this pack. Go to Kaladim, find Trantor Everhot and ask for dwarven wire. Then go to Freeport to meet Jyle Windshot. Search the inns for him and ask him for treant wood. Then, collect some spiderling silk from spiderlings and finally, in Steamfont, we have the permission of the gnomes to use any micro servos we find while destroying rogue spiders. Combine them all and return the pack to me.'

You receive a Material Pack, a 4-slot MEDIUM container.

Dwarven Wire

Trantor Everhot may be found wandering around North Kaladim.

You say, 'Hail, Trantor Everhot'

Trantor Everhot says 'Yes, yes!! I am a very busy man. I've got blueprints to work on, [dwarven wire] to perfect and formulae to calculate. In between those tasks, I have to find time to head down to Irontoe's and down a few Tumpy Tonics.'

You say, 'What dwarven wire?'

Trantor Everhot says 'Oh!! Interested in my dwarven wire, are you? Many are. I have no problem letting you use a spool, but I have to warn you that I have not perfected the strength of it yet. I will make you a trade. A couple of [Tumpy Tonics] for a spool.'

You say, 'What Tumpy Tonics?'

Trantor Everhot says 'Aaah!! I love Tumpy Tonics. They were created by Tumpy Irontoe. He was once a member of the famed Irontoe Brigade. Since they disbanded and left for parts unknown he decided to stay in Kaladim and open Irontoe's, the finest well in Faydwer.'

You can get Tumpy Tonics from Tumpy Irontoe or brew them yourself (1 Kiola Nut + 1 Water Flask in a brew barrel, trivial 135). You'll need four of them for the quest, so make sure you get enough. Give two to Trantor Everhot unstacked.

Trantor Everhot says 'Hey!! Only one?!!'

Trantor Everhot says 'Great!! I did not have the time to get down to Irontoe's today. Here. Like I said. A spool of dwarven wire. Now go away. I ain't sharing these tonics.'

You receive Dwarven Wire. Give him another two Tumpy Tonics unstacked for the second piece of Dwarven Wire.

Treant Wood

Jyle Windshot may be found in West Freeport (a different version of him may be found in East Freeport, but that's for a different quest). Make sure he cons amiably or above.

You say, 'Hail, Jyle Windshot'

Jyle Windshot says 'Hello. Might I ask what you are looking for?'

You say, 'I am looking for treant wood.'

Jyle Windshot says 'You are a new courier from the Faydarks. I am sorry I did not stay closer to the docks. I hear that part of Freeport is dangerous and is filled with many rogues. I shall require a new Small Lantern in trade for the Treant Wood.'

You can buy a Small Lantern at many vendors, including Innkeep Palola in North Freeport and Innkeep Harold in East COmmonlands. Give Jyle the lantern.

Jyle Windshot says 'Thanks, friend. I have run a long way to get here in time. Mostly at night. I lost my lantern in a card game in Highkeep.'

Your faction standing with Faydarks Champions has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Clerics of Tunare has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Soldiers of Tunare has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Crushbone Orcs has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience!!

You will probably receive Wooden Shards, which identifies as "Treant Wood Shards." Occasionally you instead receive A Wooden Heart, which identifies as "A Treant Heart." This is used in the subsequent Rain Caller quest.

Other Ingredients

Spiderling silk drops from spiders around the world. Rogue clockworks in Steamfont drop Micro Servos. You'll need at least two Micro Servos, so make sure to collect spares.

The Finale

In the Material Pack, combine 1 Dwarven Wire, 1 Wooden Shards, 1 Spiderling Silk, and 1 Micro Servo to craft a Pack of Materials. Give this to Maesyn Trueshot.

Maesyn Trueshot says 'I shall see that my father gets the materials. I hope this can be of use to you. It will serve as your starting point toward fletching a Trueshot longbow. It is unfortunate that we are unable to enchant the bow to its [next incarnation], but it is still a fine weapon. You do know the [correct components] needed for fletching such a bow, do you not?'

Your faction standing with Faydark's Champions has been adjusted by 25.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Clerics of Tunare has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Soldiers of Tunare has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Crushbone Orcs has been adjusted by -6.
You gain experience!!
You receive 6 gold from Maesyn Trueshot.
You receive 1 platinum from Maesyn Trueshot.

You say, 'What correct components?'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Now that I have crafted the Treant Bow Staff, you shall need one Planing Tool, one Treant Bow Staff, one Micro Servo and one spool of Dwarven Wire. These items will be used with your Fletching Kit as all other bows. Be forewarned, only a Master Fletcher can create such a bow and even a master fails from time to time. Good Luck.'

You receive a Treant Bowstave. Combine this in a fletching kit with a Micro Servo, a piece of Dwarven Wire, and a Planing Tool to craft a Trueshot Longbow (trivial 235).

how long to complete!!!
# Mar 06 2001 at 1:17 PM Rating: Default
Fair play, i started this quest last November and finished it last night (although i don't play as much as i should!) The main reason? i had to build my Bowyer skill up to 156 before i could make it, and i didn't have a spare 800pp around to do this. Make sure you have a wedge in the bank and time to spend outside the local bow and arrow merchant before attempting this little venture, as i levelled really slowly whilst concentrating on this quest!

Faction with Faydarks Champions
# Mar 01 2001 at 9:59 PM Rating: Excellent
There is a quest you can do in Freeport to get your faction with Faydarks Champions up.
There is a Dwarf upstairs in the Inn in West Freeport who wants muffins. Give him a couple of stacks of muffins and the Champions will love you.
I think that the quest is detailed on this site.
Question about combining
# Jan 24 2001 at 11:15 AM Rating: Default
After getting all the ingredients and putting them in the material pack, do you press the combine button on the backpack? or do you simply give the backpack to Maesyn? Also, is it one dwarven wire or 2 to put in teh fletching kit to make the bow? I dont want to get this wrong and have to circle the globe again hunting materials
RE: Question about combining
# Jan 24 2001 at 10:19 PM Rating: Default
Yes you combine the components before giving them back to Maesyn. It only takes one dwarven wire to make the bow.
RE: Question about combining
# Jan 26 2001 at 4:39 PM Rating: Default
That's true, but somewhat misleading. It takes one dwarven wire to make the bowstave, and then another one to make the bow itself. Thus for each attempt at making the bow you will need two dwarven wires (and also two microservos).

I have been trying for my Trueshot off and on now since lvl 18. Every time I attempt to create the bow it keeps telling me I have made an alternate item and puts the plane in my hand but no bow or message saying I failed.

I have been placing the Treant Bowstave, Plane, 1 Microservo, and 1 Dwarven Wire in the kit.

Any suggestions on how or why this is happening, or how this should work will be greatly appreciated.

Your skill is not high enough but not so low that you would loose your tool. You might get lucky but you might want to work a little more on fletching.

Level 6 Wood Elf Ranger Lithana with 82 fletching skill on the 3rd try, woot! Had been saving servos from hunting in Steamfont and had ten. Decided to go ahead and try it for kicks and lucked out. It should be noted that getting one this low is rather fluky and a skill of around 160 is recommended. The Trueshot Bow's trivial has not been found but is over 202 and thought to be well over 202.

Suppina, Lithana, Aanylee, etc.... :)

Success at 143 skill
# Jan 12 2001 at 9:35 PM Rating: Default
Got my Trueshot at 143 skill (required 3 attempts). From what I can tell from previous posts, I was expecting at least 5 failures before a success. Consequently I have some extra treant wood, servos, etc. ;-)

The big rogue clockworks near the Minotaur Caves seemed to drop servos more often than the small ones, or the Runaway Clockworks. They also spawn very quickly, so if they're comfortably green I recommend hunting them there.

One thing I noted, don't know if it was a bug or not: Maesyn had to be targeted when telling him "I will gather materials" to get the bag for staff components. I usually deselect NPC targets after hails just to make sure I don't inadvertently attack (never remapped autoattack key). He wouldn't say anything or give me the bag for successive attempts unless I said it with him targeted.

Good luck on the quest, it is worth it. My Trueshot hits consistently for the same dmg my old bow did on criticals. Whoopee!
RE: Success at 143 skill
# Jan 13 2001 at 9:11 PM Rating: Default
It's not a bug. There are many quests that will not give you an item unless you keep them targeted. It's annoying, but a necessary evil.
what is a guild tunic?
# Dec 18 2000 at 8:13 AM Rating: Default
Windshot asked me for a guild tunic and two gold for the treant wood. I don't have a guild tunic and I don't know where to get it. I tried giving him a small lantern, but he just took it and said thanks. What should i do?

I did the same thing - the Jyle we talked to was an imposter by the docks in East Freeport - apparently the one we need to see is Jyle in West Freeport. (logging in now)
RE: what is a guild tunic?
# Feb 23 2001 at 1:21 AM Rating: Default
Just verified it - The Jyle Windshot in East Freeport is a scam artist. The Jyle Windshot you are looking for is in the Hogcaller's Pub in West Freeport. Handed him a small lantern - got a piece of treant wood - it is Not lore or no drop and is stackable.
RE: what is a guild tunic?
# Dec 27 2000 at 9:06 PM Rating: Decent
Forget about your tunic. (It's the one you got at level 1 when you gave the note to your guild leader. Most people destroy them.) I tried giving him mine even though he didn't mention it. No go. The real Jyle wants only a small lantern for the wood. That's works every time.
First Try WooHoo!

Hiya Folks,

I gathered up all of the required items really fast by starting in Freeport and moving East. Be really quick when getting the nuts and you can buy them and get back on the same boat instead of waiting.

To make a long story short, bingo, Trueshot Longbow on first try with an embarrasing 101 fletching skill. I realize that this is a fluke, but I am SO excited WooHoo!

anyone know what this heart if for??
RE: what's a wooden heart for?
# Jan 13 2001 at 8:30 PM Rating: Default
Note: every few times you give Windshot the small lantern he gives this heart instead of the wood chips. No biggie, just keep giving him lanterns and he will give you wood chips. You will probably need to try to make the Trueshot more than once anyway, so you'll need more than one wood chips -- especially if your fletching skill is below 160+. The Trueshot bow is never trivial to make.
RE: what's a wooden heart for?
# Dec 23 2000 at 8:26 PM Rating: Default
The Wooden Heart is for the "Enchanted Longbow" quest in Felewithe. It converts the Trueshot Longbow into the Raincaller. The Wooden Heart is the easiest part of the quest; you have to already possess the Trueshot, Fairy Dust (not Pixie!) and 3000 gold (can't be 300 plat!) See the Felewithe quests for details on the Fairy Dust acquisition (this is an enormously difficult acquisition!)

Good Luck with it!

Having a problem getting treant wood from windshots somthing about getting there trust
RE: help with treant wood
# Jan 13 2001 at 8:26 PM Rating: Default
Here are some things I would suggest:

1. Look for Jyle Windshot (this exact spelling) in the Hogcaller's Inn in West Freeport.
2. Make sure you give him a Small Lantern. They're available at many merchants, I got mine from the Inn in East Freeport.
3. Check faction with him. If you're less than indifferent, there are quests you can do (listed elsewhere on this site) that will raise Faydark's Champions faction.
Easiest way to get the treant wood

there is a single treant spawn in wk i dont know the exacty location but it is along the zone wall the wood is a very common drop and it is usualy camped(atleast it is on solro) so if you dont want to lose your faction just have someone else kill it
Selling Trueshots

Can I make a Trueshot, put it in the bank, make another and sell it?
RE: Selling Trueshots
# Feb 04 2001 at 12:58 PM Rating: Default
If you already own a trueshot have a freind hold it then make one, sell one etc. That way in the event your not successful you don't sell yours and end up without a bow. Had a freind gather componenets sell his bow then try to start making them to sell, needless to say he failled every time and ended up without a bow.

Every one uses abbreations and stuff. what do you mean? What is SoW and DOT? What do you mean by LORE and NO DROP? And how many wood chips do you need to make the Trueshot bow stave?
RE: What are you talking about?!!

If you are confused on abbreviations, go to the 'chat terms' section of this very website under 'Commands' on the left hand side. This will save you money on buying the guide if you haven't already done so.

Buy a Prima's Official Strategy Guide to Everquest, either Kunark or Velious...

RE: What are you talking about?!!
# Jan 13 2001 at 8:22 PM Rating: Default
You need one Treant Wood (wood chips) PER ATTEMPT at creating the bow. Each time you try to make it, you need a bow staff from Maesyn, which requires one wood chips.
RE: What are you talking about?!!
# Dec 12 2000 at 7:58 PM Rating: Default
SoW is a spell called Spirit of Wolf, which makes you run faster.

DOT stands for Damage Over Time, which is a reference to certain types of spells (such as Tainted Breath, which poisons your target and causes continual damage until the poison wears off).

No Drop is an item that cannot be dropped or sold, only destroyed - like the book you start off with that you can give to the POD (Priest of Discord) to become a PVP (Player vs. Player).

Lore is an item which you can only have one of at a time, such as the Trueshot Longbow.

RE: Tumpy Tonics

It's a quest item - you have to give Tumpy Irontoe in South Kaladim a Kiola nut and a flask of water. He hands you back a Tumpy Tonic. You must take two of these tonics to Trantor Everhot to get each piece of dwarven wire. = 4 nuts per attempt so take several bags with you to sisters isle.

Completed the quest last night. I was hunting, err dying in unrest after my third death I decided to hit steamfront and get servos to finally get my TS. Last time I attempted it was at lvl 13 with a skill of 115 in fletching, failed four times. This time I was up to 172 in fletching, failed on the first try because I forgot to put another servo in the fletching kit(doh), the second time I made sure I had all four components in the kit and BAMMO got me a trueshot! Can't wait till I do a crit hit with it, that'll be sweet. I think this quest was ok, worst part was getting the micro servos. The only tip I can offer other rangers is don't focus on this quest you're just setting yourself up for failure. Just level up in fletching and gather components if they're near where you're hunting(i.e. spiderling silk and wood chips in FP). Most importantly, don't get discouraged!

if one have been so stupid as to have deststroid the ranger tunic, how do i get the treant wood?
RE: Made Mine!!!!
# Mar 31 2001 at 2:16 PM Rating: Default
You don't NEED the Ranger newbie tunic to get chips from the dude. Just buy some small lanterns in EFP and give them to him. You'll get wood chips, and every 5th or so small lanters, you'll get the Treant Heart. Not tough.
This quest is really easy if you start in WFP. Go to EFP, buy 10 (or so)small lanters, give them all to Jyle Windshot in the Hogcallers inn. Then head to EFP and ride the boat to OOT. As SOON as the boat hits the dock, run to the biggest hut, go int he door and turn left. Buy Kiola nuts FAST. If you were fast enough, you can dock the boat again, and head for BB.
Then in Kaladim, make the tumpy tonics, then hand them to get Dwarven wire. Once you get a lot of that, then run through BB and go to Gfay, and go through Lfay to Steamfont, and hunt there for 8 hours trying to get 1 micro servo :P Then run back to Maesyn Trueshot and say "I will gather materials" then combine the Spiderling silk, Micro Servo, Wood, and Wire in the bag, give them to Maesyn. You can't do this over and over again, becuase the staves that he gives you are lore. So every time you give him the backpack, make an attempt at the Trueshot, if you fail, the planing tool will be salvaged, so you really don't have to go anywhere. I tried MANY times at a skill of 27 hoping that I would get lucky enough to make it. I didn't :P The quest itself isn't hard at all, just getting the Fletching points to do it is ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A word on pricing. Average has been 200pp and many out of desperation for cash, as most rangers ar not rich sell their work for 150pp. I really think the work is harder than we are giving credtit for.

Cost: silk is easiest part; treant wood is cheap at a small lantern per wood; nuts for tonic are less than 1pp no matter how they don't like you but you need two and water, so about 2pp for wire; Servos cost nothing unless you use arrows to hunt them. Planes are 12pp or 10pp with best con.

Time: yet again silk is easiest; a boat ride if you get to it with no waiting is about 15 min, then buy the lanterns and go get wood. If you are a fast runner and do it under 15 min you might catch the boat and only spend 45 min total, however usually you miss the boat =) ; on the way back you stop at sister isle and get off boat to buy nuts, you should be able to buy nuts and be waiting for boat in time, unless a pirate stops to chat with you. about 20 min to get nuts, but dont forget to buy water here because Kal has no water in Tumpy Eats or that zone.; Tonics, you can give a water then nut water then nut, as long as you do not stack water. Most people fill ther bags with all the nuts they can about 52 if you get bags, so making tonics takes a while as well; Dwarven Wire, you can stack 4 at a time in four slots so not much time to get wire, you already did the hard part with tonics, so about 26 wires after double shots for our freind. I wish he would drink them where we could see him, I gave him 120 trumpy tonics, his wis and int would but -100 =); Servos are the most time consumming aspect. 1 in 10 servos on small clocks was the most optimistic rate I saw yet. it takes a bout 3 min to find one and 6 sec to kill it. After you start hunting it becomes a whait on spawns, HINT rats are runaway space holders, KILL RATS. If I have 26 wire I would want 26 servos as it takes two of each, so if this was a perfect sience 3 min per kill * 10 kills for 1 = 30 min/ servo. Now if you're going all out in hunt these servos you might get better odds, Sow is a god sent. I average 4-6 servos an hour. So about 5 hours to get 26 servos by yourself.

Total cost about 13pp-16pp
Total time for one try about 2 hours.
For the 26 of each no drop which is 13 tries is about 6 hours

I am giving best hopes out of 26 tries:
at skill 100---1 possible Not likely
at skill 110---1 possible doubtful
120---1 likely 2 possible
130---2 likely 3 possible
135---3 likely 5 possible
140---3 likely 7 possible
145---4 likely 8 possible
150---4 likely 9 possible
160---5 likely 10 possible
165---7 likely 13 possible
<at this point based on wis you might get 1 out 3>
I am now 180+ I get about 1 out of 2 average. I look at the effort to get to this point and sell bows for 300-350pp, Yes not only will people pay it they are given opertunity to get items them selves to save 100pp, I will trade a treant Staff and 200pp to make bow. I am asking All Fletchers to reconsider their pricing as not because we high fletchers can make more at less risk but because the lower fletchers work to hard to get the bows. I could flood the market with bows at 125pp a bow and cover my time. I am not a greedy bastage I am helping the smaller fletcher ask more for their work. There is little to no profit to cover the hundreds lost to get fletching to master. And for those that strive for 1 out of 3 trueshots hundreds more to get there. Please do not look at the 13pp and 2 hours as a cheap way to make 150pp, because chances are slim.
I am on Seventh Hammer trying bring about a better awareness of the Fletchers Skills and the Value back to the Trueshots. If you hear a shout at 300pp-350pp send a tell to the person before Laughing at them openly in a shout about their price. We are all In this for the betterment of the Skill and game.

I don't know were you get you info but there are two places you can buy water in Kaladim. One merch by the Cleric guild, and there is a merch in one of the buildings in BB.

The scale given is for 26 Tries which is double the figures given in cost and time. So either take half the likely results and possible OR double cost and time....
Thank you.
First try

I made the trueshot on the first try with a lvl 122 fletching and a lvl 19 ranger I thought it was a pretty fun quest and the bow is great, well worth the time

Not everyone is so lucky. I have done quest three times starting at level 15 and now 19. Results are 0-5 at 105, 0-4 at 121, and now 0-5 at 135. Frustrating when you think you're setting up for resonable chances.
And of course you hear tales of some folks creating TS when fletching is at 55. Hard to believe looking at my results.
Words to get backpack?
# Oct 14 2000 at 11:26 AM Rating: Default
After speaking with Maesyn Trueshot the first time and getting the bag to combine the items to make a Treant bowstave, I cannot get him to give me another. I hail him, he says "blah blah blah [Trueshot longbows] but he doesnt respond after that.
Thinking I could not have two Treant bowstaves at once, I used the bowstave and tried to make my first Trueshot. (attempt failed at 101 fletching) Thats ok, I will try again, but he will not answer when I hail him and say "Trueshot longbows" or any variance of those words. He just wont answer. Still he con's amiable to me so I dont know what to say to get him to give me bag to combine the items to make the bowstave again. any Suggestions?
BTW I think I remember after you say "Trueshot longbow" you have to say something else to get him to give you the backpack to combine the items. Anyone remember what to say?

Say "I will gather materials." Not sure if this was a bug, but I had to keep Maesyn targeted when I said these words to get the material bag.

#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 12 2000 at 3:29 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think I can speak for everyone on this topic. Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.

Track the guy - he ended up being on the other side of the town by the mushroom garden building when I looked for him

Is it Tratnor or Trantor? Anyway, he is usually outside the Everhot Forge near the bridge, but sometimes he wanders over to the Greybloom farm (look upstairs). Also, bring along several Kiola Nuts from Sister Island since he seems to give the wire about half the time you give him the Tumpy Tonic.

It is Trantor. He conned apprehensive to me, and gave me a wire every single time I gave him the Tumpy Tonics (gave him about a two dozen for 12 wires, fortunately didn't need anywhere near that many).

Actually, Tratnor wanders around. I looked all over then just sat down in front of Everhot Forge and he showed up after about 10 minutes

he is in a different building really close to the forge, fi you're facing the Evverhot sign turn around and walk past the building to the wall look right and follow that hall and you will find him.
A few thoughts

First off, I want to say that I thought this quest was a pretty good quest, even though I failed a few times before I got the bow. When I finally combined the required materials and was standiing there holding my very own Trueshot Longbow, I was exhilerated. I didn't look at it like I had wasted several days of my EQ life failing on attempt after attempt. I looked at it from a Role Playing perspective. The first time I tried, I didn't think I would succede, but I tried it anyway. And failed. Then I tried several more times and failed. So, I figured I my bowyering wasn't up to the task. So I shoved off and went to making arrows and arrows and arrows blah blah until I felt it was ok to give it another shot. When I was about to try to make the Trueshot, I asked the people in my guild to send up a prayer to their deity for luck and it worked! When it did work, I wasn't thinking "about frikkin' time" rather I was thinking "YESSSSSSS!!!!!!" and now I have a Trueshot Longbow. I think it's pretty cool that they added the element of you having to know what you're doing to get this quest (tbe bowyering part). Shoot, paladins have to be good smithy's to get their quest armor. I think more quests should be like this. That would add another dimension to the secondary skills (as well as the new armors they've added to smithing).

Now, on a non-role playing note. My fletching skill was less than 140 when I failed the first time. Then I went and raised it to a little over 140 and failed a few more times. Then someone told me that he had heard that at a skill of 160 it was almost 100% success rate. So I went and got my skill up to 162 and succeded the first time.

Also, that fools name in West Freeport is not Windshots it is just Windshot. I say this because in the quest description is says not to be fooled by imitators, that this is the real one, so a correct spelling would be nice. :P AND you have to be better than indifferent to him. I went up to him indifferent and gave him the lantern and he said "Thank you. However, although you are not an enemy of Faydark's Champions, you still have yet to prove yourself to us." and I didn't get the treant wood. I had to head to Crushbone and raise my faction with Faydark's Champions. And, you have to give him a SMALL lantern, not a large one.
