This quest is for good aligned casters.

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'Oi there! Its nice to meet you Celebus, you must excuse me for I am currently working on a special spell for my studies. I would love to talk but I have to teach a class very soon to the new [initiates] and I don't have my lesson prepared yet. Are you also a [young initiate of the Eldritch Collective]? If you are then I hope you will be ready for the lesson.'

You say, 'I am a young Initiate of the Eldritch Collective'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'Excellent. You must understand that I am very pressed for time but if you are a young initiate of the Collective then I always have time to share my knowledge with you. If you are interested I have some [training] for you to begin. These tasks will help you prepare for the upcoming lesson as well!'

You say, 'what training?'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'I have a number of tasks that I ask new recruits of the Eldritch Collective to complete. These task will test both your ability to fight as well as your navigational skills, 2 very important factors on your road to infinite knowledge. When you are ready to begin your journeys I will present you with a Tinkered Sewing Kit that you will use to gather numerous [important components].'

You say, 'what are the important components?'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'All right then Celebus, here is your Tinkered Sewing Kit. In this sewing kit you will combine a number of recipes that will be used for creating your Eldritch Collective Initiate Armor. When you are ready to craft a certain armor piece all you must to is tell me which piece you [want] to craft. I will then present you with the component recipe along with the applicable pattern for [Caps], [Bracers], [Sleeves], [Sandals], [Trousers], [Gloves] and [Robes]. When you have completed the material for whatever piece you asked for you will combine it in a sewing kit with the appropriate pattern to fashion your armor piece. I do suggest though that you attempt your robe last as the components are more difficult then any other piece to collect.'

You say, 'I want to craft gloves'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'Its is very important that your hands are well guarded while you are attempting to practice magic because your hands will channel your energies thus having them injured would put a great burden on your training. To create your gloves material you will need to combine 3 Grikbar Kobold Scalps, 1 Grikbar Kobold Fur, 1 Giant Rat Pelt, 1 Giant Rat Ear and 1 Brownie Leg in your assembly kit. Once you have created the proper material take it to a sewing kit along with this pattern to fashion your very own Gloves of the Collective Initiate.'

NOTE: For these you do NOT need cloth gloves. You just do the items and hit combine.

When you combine something you allways have to put every thing in an own slot... it wont work if you put 2 or more things in the same slot. Its the same with tradeskills.

well i have had this trouble with my pally quest in Fp but what i did is that u have to seperate all of the ingredients like....3 grikbar kobold fur=1 grikbar kobold fur, 1 grikbar kobold fur, 1 grikbar kobold fur -- put them all in seperate slots and it worked...atleast it did on my pally...diff ingredients btw for my pally quest )

Are you combining all the items EXCEPT the pattern in the tinkered sowing kit, then combining the material you get with the pattern in a regular sowing kit? You must do it this way or you get a 'cannot combine' message.

Notice how the recipe does not say it needs gloves? I had the same problem until i took them out, and presto, it worked
Same Problem

I've been having the same problem myself. I got my book first. I'm thinking that I'll destroy the book and then try to make the armor...I can kill the gnomes again with a friend so lets see if that works...

Having major dificulties with this quest, I put all the materials in the gnome sewing kit and it tells me cannot combine in a container of this type. I'm using all the parts as per recipe, bought the med cloth in EC, still no go.

The only thing I can think of...is that I did the quest in the wrong order. I did the final quest for the book first, that time it worked and I have my book, but now I can't get the other stuff. Any of you guys do the book first? Im about to give up, dont really need this stuff, but thought the stats seems fairly good on a few of the pieces to warant doing the quest.
Giant rat ears and pelts?
# May 29 2002 at 6:57 PM Rating: Decent
I have been hunting those giant diseased rats near the minotaur caves for a while now. Since these are the only giant rats I can find in Steamfont, I'm guessing I'm at the right place. Haven't seen any giant pelts or ears drop yet. Would a large pelt and normal rat ear do? Can anyone tell me where to get the giant ones?

I've got same problem. Been killing Giant Rats near mino caves and around the windmills. Killed close to 100 giant rats (and female rats, and giant diseased rats,) but the pelt wont drop. I've gotten about 20 giant rat ears to drop, but the darn pelt just won't drop.

Having same problem with the mountain lion pelt. Killed tons of those too, and no pelt.
Cloth items

This is FYI:

I think the reason why 'ordinary' cloth - and not small cloth - items are required for these quest, is that they drop off the skellies around the clockwork dragon skeleton
Brownies in Steamfont
# May 15 2002 at 11:36 AM Rating: Decent
They are listed as Mountain Brownies - they drop their leg as an uncommon (still haven't seen a brain) in 8 kills. The all con'd white or yellow to a level 9 mage, had around 200ish hp's, and I was never cast on by the 8 I killed.

Also, Brownie leg IS Droppable.

Hope this helps

What drops the giant rat ear, I tried using a regular stackable rat ear and it was DNC as a result. Only need the ear to finish this quest for my wizard.

Is there really no cloth needed for this quest? ALl the other wanted the cloth counterpart for the armor.

I have both a High Elf wizard and a Erudite Magician and haven't seen any new gear to fit them. They have new gear for the classes but not for these reaces? If someone knows something I don't could ya let me know.
RE: Races
# May 11 2002 at 11:33 AM Rating: Default
Because they are newbie quests for the newbies who start in those zones. When they get around to revamping Gfay and Toxx there'll be ones for High Elves and Erudites.

New Brownies

Brownie leg

RE: Brownie leg

From what I have seen, the Brownie Legs and Brownie Brains are fairly rare. In all the mountain brownies I've killed I've had 2 brains and 1 leg drop. They do have good cash loot for low level ppl though (I've seen around 3-4pp in gold). Some of them are druids and will cast, but those seem to be few and far between. Most of them I've dealt with are just a plain melee class.

Mountain brownies are a new spawn in Steamfont. I saw them outside the Minotaur caves and in the valley that runs parallel to it (from the windmills). They did seem to be uncommon. Although they are small (even for a gnome!) and hard to see. Teaming with a tracker would be a big help. At least one of the brownies I killed (killed 5 or 6 total) was a caster. I have heard reports that the brownies in G Fay and possibly L Fay also drop these quest items. Gfay ones are possibly a bit higher level. The Lfay ones are deadly at all levels.
