This quest is for good aligned casters.

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'Oi there! Its nice to meet you Celebus, you must excuse me for I am currently working on a special spell for my studies. I would love to talk but I have to teach a class very soon to the new [initiates] and I don't have my lesson prepared yet. Are you also a [young initiate of the Eldritch Collective]? If you are then I hope you will be ready for the lesson.'

You say, 'I am a young Initiate of the Eldritch Collective'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'Excellent. You must understand that I am very pressed for time but if you are a young initiate of the Collective then I always have time to share my knowledge with you. If you are interested I have some [training] for you to begin. These tasks will help you prepare for the upcoming lesson as well!'

You say, 'what training?'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'I have a number of tasks that I ask new recruits of the Eldritch Collective to complete. These task will test both your ability to fight as well as your navigational skills, 2 very important factors on your road to infinite knowledge. When you are ready to begin your journeys I will present you with a Tinkered Sewing Kit that you will use to gather numerous [important components].'

You say, 'what are the important components?'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'All right then Celebus, here is your Tinkered Sewing Kit. In this sewing kit you will combine a number of recipes that will be used for creating your Eldritch Collective Initiate Armor. When you are ready to craft a certain armor piece all you must to is tell me which piece you [want] to craft. I will then present you with the component recipe along with the applicable pattern for [Caps], [Bracers], [Sleeves], [Sandals], [Trousers], [Gloves] and [Robes]. When you have completed the material for whatever piece you asked for you will combine it in a sewing kit with the appropriate pattern to fashion your armor piece. I do suggest though that you attempt your robe last as the components are more difficult then any other piece to collect.'

You say, 'I want to craft sandals'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'Sandals are always a wise idea because you never know what you where your adventures will take you. To create your sandal material you will need to combine 3 Grikbar Kobold Scalps, 1 Kobold Tooth, 2 Harpy Wings, 1 Russet Oxide and Cloth Sandals in your assembly kit. Once you have created the proper material take it to a sewing kit along with this pattern to fashion your very own Sandals of the Collective Initiate.'

For those who jsut cannot 'combine', please read this

For those who are having trouble actually getting these combines to work, let me clarify. This newbie armor seems to be different from other newbie armors I have made, in that each piece takes two combines (I only made three pieces). I know it has been stated somewhat in another post, but let me elaborate.

First you have to make some 'material'. This material looks like a rectangular sheet of metal. It is made typically with the raw components specified, but does NOT include the pattern. Some material also requires a similar piece of cloth armor, for example, Cloth Sandals. In these cases, Small Cloth Sandals will not work, even though you may wear a size small. You must locate the regular Cloth Sandals to make the material. This was not too easy, but the cobbler in N Qeynos (near the Temple of Life) has them. Some material is made without a piece of cloth armor. Note that these materials are combined in the 'Tinkered Sewing Kit' even though some places it says 'assembly kit', or something of the like.

Once the material is made, combine it in a regular sewing kit that you can buy from any tailor, along with the pattern. I'm sure a loom works too.

As for the components, be smart. You will find that if you check the vendors, even in the safer areas or zones, you will see that a LOT of these components can be bought for very little. There is no need to go taking on a Harpy at the early stages when the wings are plentiful on the vendors. The hardest thing to find was the Cloth Sandals, beleive it or not. Even the Russet Oxide I saw on several merchants.

I thought that maybe because I was agnostic I could not make the combinations, let me tell you that they made just fine, once I realized that you did not put the pattern in the with the raw components.

Anyway, the best of luck to you. I realize some of you will say 'just read the words... it says it', but I'm hear to tell you that I was conditioned by making other armor and even though I read it over and over, the suttlety did not sink in. The other problem was that someone had posted a list of the items needed and how to combine, but did not specify the two separate combines, which added to the frustration.

When ya get tired of running around looking gor the oxide try the merchants. The lower levels of most other classes immediately sell the stuff for gold right after they find it. I found several of them in the merchants in the gears of steamfont Mtns.

If youre enchanter of the 8th circle. High elves like Half-Elves better then gnomes (IE:illusion) Even the clerics that hate my short agnostic butt offered me the bone quest.... before they had tried to show me the door. By the 8th circle you have illusion AND alliance. Take your small cloth. Sell it and buy normal sized. :) Not TOO bad of a price hit... also. Now a days cash is way easy to come by, plaged rats tails selling for 1.7p... bah. But if you like, trade up, your gonna sell that 'small cloth' in a heartbeat for the stats of some of this stuff anyways. Im just saying to make back some cash...

I found it last night right behind the pillar next to the mino caves. Picked it up and there was another one laying there. Just go check, its worth a try

Medium Cloth is easy to get. You can buy it in Felwithe which isn't all that far from Ak'Anon.

Not sure How often this drops spent about 4 hours last night killing everything including elementals and haven't seen it yet. Spawn rate for Brownies also seems extremely low I have yet to see brownie legs and have only seen 1 Brownie brain and several brownie parts. if my addition is correct all of the initiate items add up to these stats: Int+14 AC+19 Dex+4 Agi+3 Sta+3 and 63 mana. Seems well worth it for a group of quests that you can get xp while completing

I found russet oxide from hunting Steam Elementals. But I know that it can be found on all elementals near the minotaur caves in Steamfront. ALso It can supposidly be found on the ground. It is a rare drop because I hunted elementals (and avoided that darn Kobold Missionary) for hours before I got 1 russet oxide.

To get the sandals, go to Butcher Block mountains. Then go to the Goblin Warrior camp over near the Bandits. Kill the Goblin Warriors they drop medium cloth. Or go into Crushbone and kill centurions. They drop medium, sometimes, too.

Anyone want to give a bit more specifics on where to find the Oxide at? I couldn't find it on the cogs anywhere. =( Looked around 3 times now. Would be a great help, thanks in advance.

This was the hardest item for me to get.The scalps, the wings ,and the tooth, are self explanitory. The russet oxide was at the base of the right pylon outside the mino cave.If you dont find it there I heard that items also appear on and around the big gear.
The hardest part was the sandals.I must have killed 150 Skeletons but they never droped any so as far as I know sleletons only drop cloth wristbands, sleeves, and caps but anything they dropped worked.I bought sandals at felwihte and kelethin but they didnt work.I finally found them in Qeynos at the cobbler shop.
The key is when you right click on the item it must say Cloth Sandals not Small Cloth Sandals .The size on both reads small but the title must say only Cloth Sandals.

okie doke....lemme tell yall where all the ground spawns are that i can remember....

there is one by one of the two little water pump? looking things outside the minotarur cave...i believe its the one on the right.

there are 2 on the leaning tower of piza looking thing...one on the lower side where you can jump up, and one opposite that on the higher side.

there is at least one on the big gear standing on edge...on the right side near the ground.

there is one inside the gear laying on its side, next to the merchant, and one on top of it.

hmmm i know theres a couple more but that oughta do yas =). since this quest came out people doing them, and master smiths alike, have been scrambling to pick them all up. and they are a very long spawn =/ somewhere in the neighborhood of 24 hours. so if they arent there...dont freak out =) just come back later or kill the legless flying freakazoid elementals.

i just got my sandals last night with my gnome mage...and the medium sized sandal thing is just retarded. you cant wear them....then you sew some kobold scalps and harpy wings on em...and hey! theyre your size. *sigh*

also got the book last night...but i had to cheat a lil bit to get that =/ *sniffle* im so ashamed...but it rocks =)

anywho...good luck to ya all...and if your on cazic thule, look for me in steamfont. got 3 characters there at the moment. ill help yas out.

I have not seen any Russet Oxide spawn on the ground in a very long time. I used to pick it up a lot, so I do know what it looks like. I am pretty sure they took the ground spawn of it out.

I found an Iron Oxide on an Earth Elemental, but this is not the stuff -- it does not combine in the Assembly Kit. I will just keep killing elementals until I get lucky, I guess.

This quest is maddening!
Cloth Armor
# May 21 2002 at 5:38 PM Rating: Default
NOTE that cloth armor sometimes drops on skeletons at the backbones, that is where i got my armor from, but im not sure how rare of a drop it is.
Assembly Kit
# May 21 2002 at 5:35 PM Rating: Default
Assembly Kit is the kit that the quest giver gives you that looks like a chest, you have to combine all the components except the pattern in that first and then take teh combined components and pattern and place them into any sewing kit and combine them.
Assembly Kit?
# May 20 2002 at 11:40 PM Rating: Default
It says I can't put together the components in the Sewing kit he gave me... Then I looked back and he says I should combine the compoents in my "assembly kit" and then use that material with the pattern in the sewing kit... Well I don't have an assembly kit and I have no clue where to get one. I looked all over Ak'anon.

OK at the risk of looking stupid.. where are the Grikbar Kobold scalps from and also where do you get the tooth from. I've never seen ethere but then I haven't gone on a kobold killing spree in quite some time :)

the scalps, tooth, and fur (all componnents needed for the line of quests) are all either uncommon or rare drops off of the Grikbak Kobolds in Steemfont, there's a whole camp of them near the druid ring... I have killed probably a hundred of these things and only gotten 2 fangs, 4 furs, and maybe 10 scalps... you have been warned... lol
RE: Kobold parts
# Oct 08 2003 at 6:44 PM Rating: Decent
this is almost a year since last response but they made all the drops common now so you can get parts in like fur and teeth in like under 10minutes.You can get all the scalps in less than an hour now as well.
Russet Oxide
# May 16 2002 at 12:45 AM Rating: Decent
Unable to find any Russet Oxide as a ground spawn. Russet oxide did drop, however, from the 22 earth elemental I killed in the area near the big gears.

russet oxide
# May 14 2002 at 3:23 AM Rating: Decent
the russet oxide doesn't drop off of anything. It is a static spawn on the ground over by the merchant in the gear near the minotaur cave
