This quest is for good aligned casters.

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'Oi there! Its nice to meet you Celebus, you must excuse me for I am currently working on a special spell for my studies. I would love to talk but I have to teach a class very soon to the new [initiates] and I don't have my lesson prepared yet. Are you also a [young initiate of the Eldritch Collective]? If you are then I hope you will be ready for the lesson.'

You say, 'I am a young Initiate of the Eldritch Collective'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'Excellent. You must understand that I am very pressed for time but if you are a young initiate of the Collective then I always have time to share my knowledge with you. If you are interested I have some [training] for you to begin. These tasks will help you prepare for the upcoming lesson as well!'

You say, 'what training?'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'I have a number of tasks that I ask new recruits of the Eldritch Collective to complete. These task will test both your ability to fight as well as your navigational skills, 2 very important factors on your road to infinite knowledge. When you are ready to begin your journeys I will present you with a Tinkered Sewing Kit that you will use to gather numerous [important components].'

You say, 'what are the important components?'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'All right then Celebus, here is your Tinkered Sewing Kit. In this sewing kit you will combine a number of recipes that will be used for creating your Eldritch Collective Initiate Armor. When you are ready to craft a certain armor piece all you must to is tell me which piece you [want] to craft. I will then present you with the component recipe along with the applicable pattern for [Caps], [Bracers], [Sleeves], [Sandals], [Trousers], [Gloves] and [Robes]. When you have completed the material for whatever piece you asked for you will combine it in a sewing kit with the appropriate pattern to fashion your armor piece. I do suggest though that you attempt your robe last as the components are more difficult then any other piece to collect.'

You say, 'I want to craft a bracer'

Xalirilan Zarinokosalio says 'Bracers are a wise idea and will keep you well guarded young Celebus. To create your bracer material you will need to combine 1 Grikbar Kobold Scalps, 1 Plague Rat Tail , 1 Minotaur Scalp and a Cloth Wristband in your assembly kit. Once you have created the proper material take it to a sewing kit along with this pattern to fashion your very own Bracer of the Collective Initiate.'

IF you are NOT a wizard class...

Open find window (control + f), unclick the box 'Only show destinations I can use' in the lower left. Now you can find him in the search window.

Sup all,
I can't seem to find Xalirilan. I thought he was suppose to be in the Library in Ak'Anon. Can't even find him using FIND. I'm in the Combine server lvl 8 agnostic gnome mage. Any ideas?

This is a bit late, but someone else may want to know this answer.

Minos can be found in the cave near the rusty wheels north of the Windmills. There is a small area just NW if you go beside te 3 windmills. You will find a bunch of undead, harpies, elementals, clockworks, and brownies. Plauge rats and a few others also roam in this higher level area. This is a great spot for around 10-16 or so to hunt.

You can get russet oxide and iron oxide as ground spawn here as well. The Mino Hero also spawns here as a random spawn I think. So beware cause he is almost instant death for the level that hunt here. The last danger here that is common is a high 20ish kobold shaman class. He has killed me so many times ... I can't count that high.

Hope this helps!!

I found it!

Ok, for those who have helped me THANK YOU! Seriously, I was going nuts trying to locate whom I had to talk to, to get started. I found this one female Gnome who somehow got me started and I kept looking for her but I found the right one to speak to. Again everyone, thank you for all your help. ;-)

When you follow the quest text, they will give you a container. Combine the items you collect in that and you will get a "material" or something like that. Then you take that material and the pattern you received and combine that in a loom or sewing kit for the final item. It requires no skill in tailoring, it is no-fail, but you can still get skill-ups for the combines.
about the cloth wristband
# Jul 24 2002 at 10:14 AM Rating: Default
OK heres the deal, i went to felwithe and they sell "cloth wristbands" meaning under the name when u right click it says "cloth wristband" NOT "small"clothwristband". BUT though the name of it says "cloth wristband" where it says the size below the name it says "small". i havnt yet got all the other items so i havnt testsd it yet but does the name just NOT have to say small or does the actual "size" have to be "medium"? thx

It should just be "cloth wristband" if it says small, med, or large then it won't work. I bought a "cloth wristband from one of the vendors in Keli and it worked fine.

As of 7/11/04:

Mt. Lion Pelt: Depopulated the surface of Steamfont several times, no drops, no vendors selling it.

Mino Scalp:
Killed 8+ mino's, no scalps. Again, no vendors

Kobold scalp:
Oh, if only the mino scalps would drop as often!!!! No problems finding scalps!

Killed 10+ runaways:
No motors, but just about every other gizmo!
And yes, once more, no vendors!

Brownie Brains:
Haven't killed many yet, no drops, but I think that one will surface before any of the others!

Young Ebon Drake Bile:
Seems every drake in steamfont almost always drops 2 of these!!!!

Old post but I must correct this person and anyone else thinking they are twinking their caster at this level with high INT / WIS.

You get more mana on +mana items than on high INT / WIS.

At low levels the mana per INT / WIS point is much less.

I have Everyone thing i need BUT the cloth wristband thing. I went to felwith, becuase everyone said it was in their shops. Well, it was, but it wasnt MEDIUM!!!!! I spent an hour waiting for the Skeletons to drop them near the dragon skeleton in Ak'Anon, and I recieved a cloth shawl, and cloth gloves, but NOT the cloth wristband. Where do U get the cloth wristbands???? HELP!!!!
RE: Help!
# Aug 27 2002 at 9:10 PM Rating: Decent

Medium Cloth Wrist bands (or medium sized anything for that matter) are NOT listed as Medium Cloth Wrist bands. They are listed as Cloth Wrist bands. Notice, the name of the item does NOT say large or small. If it does not say large or small in the name of the item, then it is medium in size.

And before anyone asks.... About halfway down the item description (when you right click on it) on the same line as the items weight, it will have an entry for Size. This is not (REPEAT NOT) the size of the item. That is the size of the container it will fit into. I.E, if a container's description says it will list a size capacity. If a container has a size capacity of small, and an item has a size of medium, guess what?? That item can not be place in that container.

What I find a bit perplexing is why on earth a quest that can only be done by the tiniest physically smallest race in EQ requires the use of medium size armor.

Look calm down and relax. Two things you can do, panic like there isn't a tomorrow, OR use the guides in Ak'Anon to find merchants to buy from. Really you need to calm down man not that big a deal.
Eldritch Initiate Bracers
# May 30 2002 at 6:58 PM Rating: Good
The skeletons drop the cloth wrist bands for this quest. You have to get 2 and you have to make them one at a time. The other stuff was easy to get .
The Cloth wrist bands must right click as Cloth wrist bands not Small cloth wrist bands. I
think you can buy them but I got both mine from the Skeletons. Everthing I got off Skeletons worked but as far as I know htey only drop sleeves, wristbands , and caps. The best plce to Skeletons is by the Big skeleton as they spaun there.
The Gnome, and Decaying skeletons didn't drop anything only the Skeletons but you have to kill them as they are placeholders for the regular Skeletons.
RE: Eldritch Initiate Bracers
# Jun 12 2002 at 10:08 AM Rating: Default
You are correct. They can be purchased in Felwithe for a few silver. I completed the cleric bracers by doing so as I tired of waiting on the cloth ones to drop =).
Have the parts but not working
# May 27 2002 at 3:48 PM Rating: Default
I have gathered the parts to create the Bracers but have been unable to combine them into the material needed. I have a large sewing kit and the tinkered one. Niether works to combine material. Is there something else i am missing?

Here is the solution to your dilemma methinks.....

Do NOT use "Small Cloth Wristband" for a component. It must be a normal (medium) sized wristband.

This should solve the riddle friend; best of Luck to ye.

The GK scalps are just a fairly rare drop, an a pain to get. I think i've spent an entire day just hunting them and i've still only got 11.
but then i got 2 within 5 minutes of each other on Kobold scouts - go figure.

And you need no tinkering skill for these quests (i'm only 10 and i've gotten three of seven pieces. Unless of course that makes things drop faster :)

The combines for these 'newbie' armor quests are all no-fail, regardless of your tradeskill ability. And on a side note, the combine is in a sewing kit or loom, so you may get skill-ups in tailoring. Tinkering is not involved.

Minotaur scalps

What drops the mino scalps? Slavers are red to me at 8, so I can't exactly get them off of those things.
RE: Minotaur scalps
# May 21 2002 at 10:02 AM Rating: Excellent
If the minotaurs are red to you still, spend your time killing Grikbar Kobolds, Young Ebon Drakes, Plague Rats, or other lightweight monsters you can handle. Collect some extra bits, and trade them with someone who can get mino scalps. I just helped a gnome friend complete this quest - we collected extra mino scalps and traded them for kobold scalps.

minitaur scalps
# May 14 2002 at 10:04 AM Rating: Decent
Where are the minitaur scalps dropped at.One post said not off the mino caves. Are there any little minotaurs around somewhere? any help would be apreciated.
RE: minotaur scalps
# May 21 2002 at 10:08 AM Rating: Excellent
You can loot scalps from the cave too. Lurking inside are the Minotaur Hero and Meldrath, so you have to practice a bit of caution in the cave, and not run around like I did (and get beaten to a pulp). Usually you don't have to venture far in to see a minotaur slaver.
RE: minitaur scalps
# May 19 2002 at 10:03 PM Rating: Default
I camped a group of mino slavers by the zone to lfay and got 2 scalps in 5 kills. The slavers conned light blue and dark blue to me at lvl 14 and Gorehorn (who spawns in the back of the camp) was even to me. I doubt you'll be this lucky cuz it took about 15 more kills to get a third, but they do drop there. If you attack the closest one, you should be able to fight them 2 at a time. Hope this helps.
Which Minotaurs?

Grikbarks are Kobalds that spawn in steamfront mountains i would say that the scalps are a drop item from them like the orc scalps that drop in FP

What are you TALKING ABOUT??? The scalps that drop in Highpass off the orcs have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS QUEST!!!!! And for that matter, NEITHER DO THE BELTS IN EAST COMMONS!! *sigh* Ok, for those of you WITH half a brain that want the accurate information, it has already been posted, but here goes again.. the scalps you need ARE somewhat rare, and they only drop off the kobolds in Steemfont.
