    You say, 'Hail, Geeda'

Geeda says 'Are not the woods of the Faydarks a lovely sight? Tunare has truly blessed us. It is unfortunate that the orcs of [Crushbone Citadel] have chosen to invade our lands.'

    You say, 'What Crushbone Citadel?'

Geeda says 'Within the Greater Faydarks can be found the entrance to Crushbone Citadel, home of the orcs. They have increased their raids on our lands. We do not know why. The High Elder of Kelethin has instructed us to keep tabs on the orcs' movements. Hmmm.. How would you like to [assist the scouts]?'

You say, 'I will assist the scouts'

Geeda says 'We trust this operation to high standing rogues of the Scouts of Tunare. Easy it may be, but the reward is a scout cape. The scout cape is meant for Scouts of Tunare only. Have you [contributed to the Scouts' cause]?'

You say, 'I have contributed to the Scouts' cause'

Geeda says 'So we have heard. Here, then. Take this coin. Venture into Crushbone and find our scout, Kelynn. He is posing as a slave to gain information. He tries to work very close to an opening in a cave near the moats. Find this point and wait for him to appear. Give him the coin and he shall give you the information you are to return to me.'

    [Receive Useless Token]

There will be an elf slave next to where Rondo spawns. Randomly this spawn will be a generic elf slave or a named one Keylynn. Giving the Token to Kelynn Produces the following message:

Kelynn says, 'You were sent by Geeda! Here. Take the information. Maybe next you shall earn your [scout blade] from Laren. Quickly! Leave at once!'
Your faction standing with Tunare's Scouts has been adjusted by 10.
    You gain experience!

Now that you have the information, you need to return it to Geeda. Upon giving here the information you get the following message:

Geeda says, 'Fine work. We are very grateful. Take this scout cape. May you use it to serve Kelethin.'
Your faction standing with Tunare's Scouts has been adjusted by 20.
    You gain experience!
You receive 3 silver from Geeda.
You receive 1 gold from Geeda.

    Triggering Kelynn
    # Jul 23 2002 at 2:03 PM Rating: Default

I got the cape yesterday with my level 9 woodelf Rogue. I had a friend position himself in CB near the slaver tunnel while I went to Rogue guild to see Geeda. She was outside behind the guild hall. Being an Agnostic, I thought my chances of doing this quest were not too good. I hailed Geeda and she gave me the quest! I ran over to CB where my friend was. We sat and stood around for a while...no Kelynn. We moved in further and decided to sit right near the opening with the moat right outside. If you go past the opening you will be in the moat. There is a wagon near here with 'an elven slave' standing by it. I had read in one of these post that the slavers have keys that you can give to the slaves to free them. So to cut down on boredom and because they were hitting me, we started killing the slavers (not the slaves) and they had keys on them. I tried to give the keys to the nearby slaves and none would take. <<These keys are numbered so try all keys>> The last slave I tried the keys on was the 'an elven slave' near the wagon by the opening to the moat and voila! She vanished and Kelynn popped in her place. I handed him the coin, the note for Geeda appeared in my inventory, he vanished and another 'an elven slave' popped in his place.

I hope this helps clear up some confusion. It was easier than I thought it would be.

    How I did this quest.
    # Jun 22 2002 at 8:26 AM Rating: Default
I completed this quest with a level 11 agnostic wood elf rogue, with a party consisting of a barbarian tank, a Chanter and a bard, all of us about the same level 'cept the bard, which was 13th.

Basically, we mowed down everything in the camp for about two hours and freed slaves when we found corosponding keys. So then it was just a matter of controlling the spawns in the pits, and freeing slaves till Kelynn spawned.

Trying to do this quest at a super level will get you killed. Legos and slavers are everywhere, and Rondo doesn't make this easy.

Getting a decent party together and waiting a few levels is the way to go, I think. Kelynn definitely a random spawn, and mowing down orcs to get those levels you need obviously improves the faction you probably need (Mine's all ready "Couldn't get any worse" with the CB orcs).

Control the area and waiting out the spawn isn't so nerve-wracking. That's why you get a group together--doing this alone is probably possible, but more difficult than you need to make it.

I am a half elf rogue from Kel and I cannot do this quest. Here's why. I never gave that little note to my guild when I started. I fell and died or soemthing and lost it. Anyway, be careful when your'e starting out. Make sure you get your guild that note.

Otherwise, you'll be like me and wander the world with no guild to call home :)

    Coin May Trigger the Spawn
    # Apr 11 2002 at 1:38 PM Rating: Decent
I also think that getting the coin may trigger the spawn. The first time I tried this quest, I got the coin and ran straight to CB. Kelynn was there the first time I looked, but I screwed it up by trying to give him the coin with my hide and sneak still turned on.

Second time I tried the quest, I got another coin but didn't go to CB right away. Maybe an hour delay. When I did finally go, I hung around in the slave cave, hidden so I wouldn't get aggroed, waiting for Kelynn to spawn.

I waited for 2 hours and he didn't show. The random elf slave spawn seems to last about 13 minutes before it disappears and there's a delay of about 5 mintues before another one pops.

I kept the 2nd coin I had received and tried the quest again the next day. Again, waited for about 2 hours and Kelynn never popped. I kept myself busy fishing in the moat at the end of the tunnel in the meanwhile. :)

So I'm going to try destroying my coin and getting a new one, then running immediately to CB and see how that works.

I gave up on this quest. I tried it two nights in a row. First I had to give Tylfon like 80 rusty daggers - and two bags of Pixie Dust to Expin - to get the coin from Geeda. Then I went to Crushbone and waited about 2 hours, then thought, well, maybe I didn't get to the spot fast enough. Bah, log off. The second night I got a new coin and booked to the slave cave - didn't take longer than 15 minutes, probably more like 10. Then I waited about 5 hours. Fought slavers, freed slaves, etc.

Finally Keylynn popped. I literally gasped. Nearly dropped the coin in my excitement. I gave it to him - and he gave me that old song-and-dance about a few less orcs would prove my worth! WTF! I killed so many damn orcs while waiting for him, I don't know how many more I would need to kill! You'd think he'd be glad to see someone on his side, he's a slave! I really think Geeda shouldn't give you the coin if you don't have enough faction to complete the quest, because it was utterly annoying to wait for 5 hours and not be able to finish. They should change this quest so that if you give Keylynn the coin AND free him, he'll give you the thing.
    Try again like this

I am not so sure that the spawn is a triggered event. I think it is a random event instead. Here is how I figure. I am lvl 46 Iksar warrior and I have been farming all the slaves, rhondo, the smiths, Kelynn, and the gnome caster Retlon Brenclog, for some time for their meat for baking and blood for brewing. Kelynn spawns in the cave for sure, always the same spot, the one to the right in the back by that tunnel that leads to the water. He has been a regular visitor, (meat/blood supplier) about every 8th spawn or so, about the same as Rhondo. Rhondo and Kelynn share the same spawn so if Rhondo is up you will have to get him gone some how in order for kelynn to show.

The spawn is a random event. I have completed this quest 3 times trying to raise my faction enough so I can do the Scouts' Blade quest. Rondo spawns right next to Kelynn. I have seen them both up before. I just like to kill Rondo every chance I get. I actually had someone start the quest while I was waiting to see if it was a triggered spawn & it was not. If anybody is interested I have at least 1 extra cape.

This quest can only be done by followers of Bristlebane and Tunare. If you were unfortunate enough to go agnostic (like myself) of follow Karana you can never do this quest. The only way to raise faction with the Scouts of Tunare is to do their quests which can't be done unless your faction in better than indifferent.

To clear a few things up: Kelynn is not on the same spawn as Rondo Dunfire but rather the slave which spawns next to Rondo. I can confirm this as i have seen both spawned at once. If i were really desperate to get kelynn to spawn i would most likely just kill the slaves that spawn next to the broken wheelbarrow in the slaver caves.

As for kelynn being a triggered spawn, this seems highly unlikely to me. I of course can not confirm anything regarding that as i cannot even get a coin. It would be my inkling that as with all other mobs with a place holder, he cannot spawn until that place holder dies or despawns. His place holder is almost always up because no one every kills the slaves and, as far as my experience would lead me to believe, the only way for them to despawn is to be given the correct key.
    Getting Kelynn to Spawn
    # Mar 07 2001 at 12:14 PM Rating: Default
The earlier post was correct...once you get the coin run IMMEDIATELY to CB. Getting the coin triggers Kelynn's spawn, so if you get the coin and wait too long he won't be home. Also WARN others upon entering the zone not to kill Kelynn and that he is a rare spawn needed for quest, don't give too many details or somebody else might take him...lol. The first time I tried this method or getting coin and running directly over, someone (a dark race) killed him to raise their evil faction...hard to believe that people would do this but I have seen people random kill the slaves twice. This is also easiest done if you have a SOW because then you can outrun all the baddies when you give the coin to Kelynn.

The spawn cycle for Keylynn or his placeholder elven slave is 1060 seconds. This may help a little but I've been frustrated trying to find him at home.

This darn quest frustrated me for over a week a while back, then I gave up and went over to the mainland. I tried waiting for 3 or 4 hours at a time and nothing. Well, last night I returned to CB to attempt the quest again. I went and got the coin and went straight to the cave....and there was Kelynn! I did in 10 minutes what I hadn't been able to do in over a week.

This makes me wonder if there is truth to getting a new coin each time you logon. Getting the coin from Geeda may indeed create Kelynn's spawn. In the past, I had just been using the same coin, although I think I did try to new coin once also. Try destroying your old coin, and get a new one.

Or maybe it was just dumb luck that Kelynn was standing there when I did it last night.
    RE: Spawn
    # Sep 27 2002 at 8:41 AM Rating: Decent
One problem may be that if someone is camping the Slavers in the same room where Kelynn spawns, he will assist the Slavers and may be killed before you get to CB. This happened to me and a friend when we were camping the Slavers and we killed him, so it may be a good idea if you go to CB and ask if anyone is camping them BEFORE starting the quest. I've never done this quest (not a Rogue), so I didn't realize that Kelynn was such an important spawn. I apologize if someone triggered his spawn for the quest, and didn't make it to him before we hacked him up (if asked, we would have left the room while the quest was in progress)...

I tried this quest and got the "The scouts of tunare have no quarrel with you..." response. I killed dozens of orcs and still no change. I tried the newbie quest to raise my faction and I got the "The scouts of tunare have no quarrel with you..." response from Tyflon when I hailed him. I gave him two rusty daggers and two gp and he just took the stuff! I thought i could do the Pixie dust#2 quest but i didn't have enough faction to get the correct response or the pouch from Expin. How do you get faction with the scouts of tunare to start these quests? Im a lvl 8 half-elf rogue.

I too gace the coin to Kelynn after waiting for him to spawn. When I did, he also told me that I needed to kill more orcs. So, I have.

Tylfon doesn't give you the scouts cape quest...go behind the quild. There is someone back there (I forget her name) that gives you the coin to do this quest.
    RE: faction?
    # Jan 22 2001 at 9:47 PM Rating: Default
I don't believe you have to even talk to Keylyn to do the quest...just give him the coin. However, the first time I tried the quest, I had enough faction to get the coin from Kelethin, but didn't have enough for Keylyn to give me the note. He took the coin then replied by telling me to kill more orcs, or something like that. Since that time, I have never seen Keylyn after spending hours and hours in that damn cave....goes to show how random his spawn is.

    # Dec 11 2001 at 10:55 AM Rating: Default
I tried the Scout Cape quest twice. The first time I found Kelynn, he told me to kill more orcs..
I did nothing to improve my faction with the Scouts before my second attempt..Other than killing the Slavers to get the keys..

On my second attempt I hailed Kelynn first. He told me that I should leave before I become one of the slaves. Then I presented the key and he gave me the note. Which I promptly returned to the Scouts.

Perhaps one has to hail Kelynn first before you give the coin. Worked for me.

    Enjoy the game!

    # Jul 12 2001 at 8:22 PM Rating: Decent
I have had the same experience. I even timed the spawn -- "an elven slave" pops, then (if no one frees him) de-pops 13 minutes later. There's a 4.5 minute gap before the next pop, during which an orc centurion strolls casually down the tunnel to the moat and back (good pickpocketing practice, assuming that someone else is clearing out the slavers!). Then, "an elven slave" pops. Repeat. :(

I tried fetching a new coin too, but didn't work. Hopefully tomorrow... Keep your fingers crossed for me?

I waited for 3 days for Kelynn to finally show up. I didn't get the tip about getting a new coin to make him spawn. Someone also told me he will spawn if you kill the slave in his place, but I didn't want to destroy my faction like that. On the plus side, the Slave cabin is a great place to camp, especially if you join up with some other campers (I went from 9 to almost 11 waiting for Kelynn). It is fun to kill Rondo and the Slavers over and over again(as long as you have so help), and no one bothers you if you sit on the tree and rest. As you can imagine I was sooo happy to see him. This was the first fun quest I've done in Everquest.

OK Guys this is a really random one, I've waited I've seen Rondo Got killed by him, killed him given money to find key number of slave etc, I know Im waiting at the right spot because every guide says so. I guess you just have to be lucky.

Needless to say I havent been got bored after 5 days in there killing slavers( good for keys & belts btw) but No Kelynn.

Kelynn spawns at the spawn spot shared by rondo, the he/she woodelf spot right by the wheelbarrel where the cave leads to the Mote DUH !Geeda tells you this!!as for spawn time...if rondo is klled he will spawn next,or if ya wait he will appear usually within about 20 minutes.
oh and you will appear after you give him the coin and if ya havent killed enough orcs than stick around the entrance to CB avoid the trains and take on some Cents and Pawns it wont take to many to get faction YA COWARD and you call yourself Fier'Dal </cry>

    The answer is 'NO'.
    1) wait for Kelynn to appear with hide/sneak on
    2) hail Kelynn with hide OFF
    3) give him the coin with hide OFF
    WTF?
    # Aug 15 2000 at 3:39 AM Rating: Decent
Well after reading all this I went into Crushbone with my lvl 5 W/elf rogue, some points of interest.
1 Getting the coin doesnt trigger the spawn of Kelynn. I repeatedly went back & had the relevant conversation with Geeda & still no Kelynn.

2 I tried this quest to the exclusion of anything else for 6 hours, & didnt get anywhere.

3 Dont forget that Hide / Evade skill is not impregnable. Its works like a spell, in that mobs get a chance to resist it @ lvl 5 with Below av hide & bad or vbad (cant remember) sneak I was killed on several occasions by mobs that saw thru my hide / sneak.

4 As there is only 1 cave in CB I can assume I was in the right place, there was 1 permanant female Elven Slave (who asked me to get a key with no 22 on it).
& 1 male Elven Slave a liitle way off (aking for key 16). No Kelynn.

    Moral of this story...

After wasting 6 hours in which I gained no xp, no money, lots of deaths, & hypertension I was truly angry with this quest. In particular the fact that it is a low lvl quest so y should I have to slog thru it with so much difficulty? 6 hours was literally wasted in which I could have watched a film, cooked a nice meal, relaxed, had sex... want to know the worst of it? Tonight after work Im going to go Norrath & do it all over again... Please save me Im addicted, even when Im really really really ****ed off Im still going back to try again!!!!

The wood elf in question is a random spawn sometime he spawns every few mins some times once a day. I've waited hours for him to spawn and one time he spawned faster than I could go back to get another coin. it's all about timing, and allakazim is wrong I wouldn't do this quest unless you were of a high enough lvl to defend your self from the roaming orc cent.

Notice the singular scout. She will give you the token. Also, I did this quest 6 times last time I logged on with the quickest being he was up when I got to the mines and the longest being I had to wait for 40 minutes.
When you get the token it puts Kelynn in the spawn cycle so he is usally either the next or second spawn.
So make sure that when you go do this quest, get a new coin every time you log on. Don't camp him with the coin you had when you logged off. Believe me I waited 8 hours for my first cape that way. :(
