You say, 'Hail, Lendel Deeppockets'

Lendel Deeppockets says 'Its nice to meet you Makkinry. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Lendel Deeppockets master Assassin of Rivervale. I am personally in charge of all [training] we have the new recruits go through before they are sent out on specific missions. '

You say, 'What training?'

Lendel Deeppockets says 'There are many steps that young rouges must take on the road to stealth. The most important part of your training is learning how to use the tools around you such as the forge. From the looks of you I can tell you could use some more [enchanted armor] as well so I think this would be a good learning experience. '

You say, 'What enchanted armor?'

Lendel Deeppockets says 'I am pleased to hear that you are interested in making your own armor Makkinry. I have some instructions for you so please listen closely. First, I will present you with your Dusty Mail Assembly kit when you are ready. After that, simply tell me what piece of Slickfinger Chainmail you [want] to craft and I will give you a pattern along with a recipe for [Coifs], [Bracers], [Sleeves], [Boots], [Legplates], [Gloves] and [Tunics]. The recipe I will give you for specific items will need to me combined in the assembly kit to create the magical material necessary. Once you have this material and pattern that I gave you when you told me what item you wanted to craft, put both in the nearest forge to create the armor piece you asked for. Here is your Dusty Mail Assembly Kit. '

You say, 'I want to craft the Tunic'

Lendel Deeppockets says 'I'm happy to see that your training is coming along so well Makkinry. I have no doubt in my mind that you are ready to craft your tunic. Please collect 5 Bricks of Crude Iron Ore, 1 Giant Wood Spider Femurs, 1 Embalming Dusts, 1 Dark Elf Skins and 1 Giant Yellowjacket Thorax. Come back after you are finished, I have a [job] for you.

EQ Traders says two Dark Elf Skins, but ZAM correct

Tunic requires only one 'Dark Elf Skins', as stated here. EQ Traders website is wrong/out of date. That said this must be the easiest ever loot drop required for newbie armour - every single 'a shadowed assassin' drops one, and they're not a tough fight. No spells, debuffs, or healing. Even as a rogue I could pull a group of five - four conning dark blue, one white - and kill every one without losing more than 50% health. Almost too easy, really...
GYJ Thorax
# Oct 18 2004 at 10:43 AM Rating: Decent
Perhaps things are fixed now, but I just finished the warrior newbie quests. I killed 5 GYJ or so to find my thorax, was not too much trouble. The Giant Fruit Bat Wing was the hardest thing to find for me. I finished all the Warrior Newbie Quest Armors by age 10 solo. I did team with a level 11 druid to camp the orc camps to get my weapon done - took 4 kills to find the 4 pages, this is the same place to get the bone and jaw pieces for the rogue weapon, and I saw this junk on nearly every cent we killed there in the camp.

Killing the wandering Cents in the Misty only resulted in a couple of DF belts, never any of those other things.

I rate the difficulty of the MT quests along the same as some of the other newbie quests I have run thru. The easiest by far was the druid armor in Kelethin - my druid finished it all by lvl 5. All the hard parts drop in the throne room in CB, and is left to rot by the folks that camp there. It was easy to walk up, ask to loot what yer needing, and finished I was.

The GYJ Thorax is indeed the hardest part.
# Jan 13 2003 at 5:00 AM Rating: Decent
I helped a friend with these quests and it took hours and hours of non stop killing to find one Thorax. We got countless stingers, tergites and others. When we finally found the last Thorn Drakeling Scale for the sleeves, he accidently deleted his character when he was logging out. It couldn't be restored since the backup was from when he was lvl4 and had NONE of the equipment we worked so hard for.

Doing everything over again was not an alternative. It's still easier than the quest for Shadowwalkers (Gnome Rogue) armor when you dont have to hunt brownies that rarely spawn and clockworks which never have anything on them.

Giant YellowJackets
# Oct 19 2002 at 6:52 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, Finally got Tunic. It took killing YellowJackets to level 13 to get the Thorax to drop:

181 Yellow Jackets
Tarsus Drops: 26% of time
Sternite Drops: 5% of time
Pristine Stinger Drops: 3% of time
Tergite Drops: 6.5% of time
Thorax Drops: 0.5 %

I would start hunting yellowjackets about 7 am until about 7 pm. They rarely spawn at night. I tended to hunt them back to Runnyeye or pull them that way because of the gaurds who are gauranteed to tick you off by killing your mob (after you've taken all the damage of course).

Tried to find Embalming Dust EVERYWHERE in FreePort, but wasn't there. Found some in South Ro fishing Village - was on my way to Oasis.

I have all pieces now except for the Bracers and not sure I'll try for them. Spent 13 levels in Misty - seen 5 large yellowjackets in total. 1 The bug collector killed, I killed other 4 with no drops. *sigh*

Good hunting!
omg this sucks

i've been hunting the zombie's all day long i need the embalming dust, the tarsus and sternite oh and a femur too. i shoulda read the post about the embalming dust though....crap i guess i'll hafta start on the yellowjackets and spiders then this quest is harder than the new dwf and elf quests with the crazy forest drakeling scales....i wish it was easier and i hope it's better than the armor i got on now.

the stuff
# Jul 14 2002 at 7:32 AM Rating: Good
heres how u get all the stuff for this thing, i know cause i got the entire set and im happy im done with it. the bricks of crude iron ore come off of goblins. every other one has a brick usually and they weigh 15 pounds each and are non stackable so be prepared for a long walk back. the giant wood spider femurs come from giant wood spiders (duh!). they are a rare drop so just kill every spider u see including the small ones to spawn the giant woods. keep on killing them and u will eventually get one. i got lucky and got 2 in a row but heck im lucky. the embalming dust i heard drops from zombies and the like but i just bought mine in a store, much easier. the dark elf skins come from shadowed assassins in the misty thicket. follow the path to the wall and go through and to the left over the big hill. there are like 5 i think in a circle. they are mostly level 7 and 8 but there are a few exceptions. they will aggro so u might need a partner. most will drop dark elf skins and they all drop money. the giant yellowjacket thorax is from giant yellowjackets (duh! again). it is a fairly rare drop. some days the yellowjackets are way common but sometimes way rare. yesterday they were more than common they were like freeekin common, u could kill one and see another from that spot kill it and see another etc. during all this stupid killing u should auction that u want to loot this stuff, i personally auctioned 5pp to loot the embalming dust and thorax, but i ended up buying the dust for a few gold 8). and if anyone wants to know about the thorn drakelings, they fly around the inner section of misty thicket. they are a rare spawn and it helps very much if u get a ranger buddy who can track them for you. also auction to buy these things because sometimes people come along auctioning 10 scales! i dont see how but o well take advantage of these cases. i hope this helps everyone and good luck on getting the whole suit, it definitly takes time.

/e shuts up finally

I was helping me friend do thing quest, and well, DAMN! You'd have more luck camping the GBS. The wasp things aren't too rare (1 out of 40) but the spider thing in near imposible to find. I've cleared the zone multiple times and killed spiders for days and still no femur. Calling these "newbie quests" is like saying The Sleeper "hurts". I wish much luck to all, hope you have better luck than me. /stangles Verant staff

I have now got the combined magic material and pattern for both the bracer and gauntlets but when i put a material and its pattern into the RV forge, neither wants to combine. Am i doing something wrong or is this an eccentric forge?

Kinda makes me mad.

Halflings have -great- stats for a Rogue, as opposed to Human, Wood elf and Dark elves.

They gain experience faster than most. Start off with great hide and sneak skill levels. Have a nice starting location, and great over-all faction with other races.

Hell, Halfling Rogues are actually respected in their towns.

So, let's give them the best looking armor, with the best stats. That's not enough, so let's give them the best weapon too. What the hell, let's NOT give the races with 'lame' stats, and 'lame faction' quest armor, just to make it "fair!"

Hell, while we're at it, let's make the human quest armor ten times harder to 'obtain' -- isn't like anyone plays human rogues anyways, so what the hell, let's discourage them from it even more.

God, I love how the Coalition Trader armor looks. Hell, normal leather looks better. There's leather, then there's "Coalition Trader" armor -- looks like it's covered in Cow Manure.

You get more stats from one piece of Slick-Smacker armor, than you do from a whole suit of "Coalition Trader" armor.

It's okay, though. Half Elves get a 'l33t' 3/21 dagger, that they can't use. Because they can't worship Innoruuk -- Does Verant intentionally try to **** us off, or what?

okay, I can take care of the rest of the junk eventually, at least I know what it drops off of. I just don't know where the things which have DE skin are!! Someone tell me pleeease? This quest is going to drive me insane
RE: Dark elf skins???
# Jun 16 2002 at 3:40 PM Rating: Default
dark elf skins drop off of the shadowed assassins in misty thicket. once u go through the wall onto far side, take a left and stay next to the wall. go past the hill and u will see about five shadowed assassins standing in a circle. most are about level 8 i think. they drop money and dark elf skins

Some stupid higher level ranger was there killing the giant fruit bats faster than I could find them, and when I found ONE a guard KSed me. Blaaaah. Ah well, who wants to be an edible miget (sp) anyways?

i think the confusion is the name of the component is "Dark Elf SkinS" making it plural... you still only need one
embalming dust
# May 24 2002 at 4:53 PM Rating: Decent
There is a rare spawn zombie mixed in with the diseased rats that might have a rare drop of embalming dust. But ... ***** that. Quicker to walk to EFP and buy some from whatshername Charcoal near the NFP zone entrance.

Rare drops off of rare spawns and competition for those with other classes. I'd like to shove a dwarven work boot up someone's rear.
Femur

Yellowjacket Thorax
# May 18 2002 at 11:07 AM Rating: Decent
I can honestly say that I have been hunting for the Thorax for 5 whole entire levels on my Rogue.

I have killed COUNTLESS YJ's and have seen SEVERAL other 'rare drop' pieces, including Pristine Stinger's, Sternites, Tergites, and Tarsus'. I have obtained several wing's which I freely give out to people doing the 'Bug' quest, and have even looted a few regular stingers from the YJ's.

If someone says that the Tunic was easy, count yourself to be EXTREMELY lucky!

The wasps only spawn at a certain time, killing everything in the zone to get them to spawn doesn't sound like Verant's 'Vision' to me, as you would take away from other's.

Then you have the factor of the ROAMING DOMINO guards from HELL! Who have been known to travel all the way to Runnyeye entrance because they keep aggroing a good distance than normal other newbie guards, so even if the wasp spawns, and it happens to spawn near the guards, guess what ...

I have all the pieces of the armor except the tunic, the worst thing is that they call this a 'newbie' quest. 2 classes searching for the same piece, ultra rare drop, and the roaming guard factor.

And you said this was easy? This isn't a newbie quest ... this is insanity!
RE: Yellowjacket Thorax

i haven't had a time with the thorax... maybe that's what my mistake is in combining my items......................................
RE: Yellowjacket Thorax
# Jun 10 2002 at 6:03 AM Rating: Default
i must say, as i read this i kept laughing harder and harder : )
i whacked the guards several times in attempt to kill them, but it didnt' work...

but yeah these aren't easy! THESE are HARD! too hard if you ask me...
AHHHHH!
# May 16 2002 at 5:42 PM Rating: Default
I cant combine the bracers sleeves or coif, i get cannot combine message. WHAT THE HELL?
Spawn rates
# May 12 2002 at 8:20 PM Rating: Default
Part of the problem is that some of these items are used for other quests, so you've got druids and rogues looking for things, the other problem is the mob's dont' spawn enough. I wouldn't mind killing a hundred of 'em to find the right part, if I didn't spend more time looking for them than killing them.
RE: Spawn rates
# Jun 12 2002 at 12:58 AM Rating: Default
i think the spawn rates need to be increased a BIT more! this quest is driving me nuts, insane, for an obsessive compulsive person, this is hell BTW.... same is for getting to level 60 : /
