You say, 'Hail, Lendel Deeppockets'

Lendel Deeppockets says 'Its nice to meet you Makkinry. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Lendel Deeppockets master Assassin of Rivervale. I am personally in charge of all [training] we have the new recruits go through before they are sent out on specific missions. '

You say, 'What training?'

Lendel Deeppockets says 'There are many steps that young rouges must take on the road to stealth. The most important part of your training is learning how to use the tools around you such as the forge. From the looks of you I can tell you could use some more [enchanted armor] as well so I think this would be a good learning experience. '

You say, 'What enchanted armor?'

Lendel Deeppockets says 'I am pleased to hear that you are interested in making your own armor Makkinry. I have some instructions for you so please listen closely. First, I will present you with your Dusty Mail Assembly kit when you are ready. After that, simply tell me what piece of Slickfinger Chainmail you [want] to craft and I will give you a pattern along with a recipe for [Coifs], [Bracers], [Sleeves], [Boots], [Legplates], [Gloves] and [Tunics]. The recipe I will give you for specific items will need to me combined in the assembly kit to create the magical material necessary. Once you have this material and pattern that I gave you when you told me what item you wanted to craft, put both in the nearest forge to create the armor piece you asked for. Here is your Dusty Mail Assembly Kit. '

You say, 'I want to craft the Tunic'

Lendel Deeppockets says 'I'm happy to see that your training is coming along so well Makkinry. I have no doubt in my mind that you are ready to craft your tunic. Please collect 5 Bricks of Crude Iron Ore, 1 Giant Wood Spider Femurs, 1 Embalming Dusts, 1 Dark Elf Skins and 1 Giant Yellowjacket Thorax. Come back after you are finished, I have a [job] for you.

Had the same problem when I first tried to combine. Read further down, and you will find that the two dark elf skins SHOULD BE STACKED. That did it for me.

There is no special embalming dust for this quest; can drop from any of the mummies in Antonica. Check vendors in zones where there are mummies or in nearby cities.

Where exactly?
# May 02 2002 at 9:37 PM Rating: Decent
I heard people say the embalming dust can be gotten from FP but which one? North, west or east? Also, which merchant can it be bought from? Thanx in advance for info.

I found embalming dust (lots of it) at merchants in the oasis of marr. Most players hunting undead there sell it to the merchants.
HELP PLEASE

Ok, I have the exact ingrediants, the box, hit combine to make the "magic material" and get a cannot combine message. Any ideas/suggestions? (Gauntlet Quest...easy ingrediants(

i must be adding extra components or something because i thought that the bracer or the sleeve or the tunic (can't remember which one) took more than 10 spaces

/em wonders where the "send correction button is"
this is correct, you only need one dark elf skin, the NPC says one, so unless he's bugged, you only need one

Just finished getting the last piece for a complete set of slickfinger gear today after my rogue reached level 12. As far as I can tell, this is the easiest of the halfling newbie armors to acquire (I also have a warrior and ranger, so I can't speak of other classes from experience).

Total stats are: AC 46 STR+12 DEX+21 (including the dirk, which is a very nice weapon for this lvl). Will undoubtably acquire better pieces in the future, but this is good stuff to get started... will look to fill the open slots with STR gear first though.

As far as questing for the pieces, here are some important considerations:
- bricks of crude iron ore are a common drop on goblin warriors, and because they are heavy and don't stack those classes that do not need them let them rot, so don't worry about stocking up unless you have lots of bank space. Same is true for other common items (such as fire beetle eyes) which you can pick up when you need them -- focus on getting the rare items first.
- plan your hunting so you are not wasting time killing green MOBs looking for that last item. You should have the Dark Elf skins before level 10 because the assassins are green at that level, but you can continue hunting giant wood spiders and yellowjackets until level 13.
- the rarest items -- in my experience -- are the drakeling scales (for sleeves) and lg. yellowjacket sternites (for bracers). To get these MOBs to spawn, you should start killing everything you see in the newbie zone. Best time to do this is early AM (U.S. time) when there is no one else in the zone to compete with.
- Kalish (for legplates) is a rare drop on goblins, or you can brew it with foraged veggies. I just ran to FP to buy it and the embalming dust as soon as I was born. No SoW or camo required...
- to obtain the weapon, just see if anyone is hunting orcs, and ask if you can loot the bones (most people don't mind). Took about 5 minutes of 'work'...
- Finally, some people don't announce when they find a rare item on a corpse because they can't be bothered; I make it a point because people are very appreciative, and they always tell me when they find something themselves that I can use. Grouping is not necessary, but cooperation is essential to complete these quests while maintaining your sanity.

Happy hunting.

I've been trying to get my tunic for 3 days now...playing about 8-10 hours a day... and have yet to get the embalming dust or giant yellowjacket thorax. Decided to get the dust from the commons, but not sure what I'm going to do about the thorax.

Also, anyone have any ideas on how to get the large yellowjackets to spawn? Does killing everything in the newbie area do anything besides make the Queen Klaknik spawn?

Verant has taken a fun newbie quest and made it into a time consuming task. I have been hunting the thorax for 3 days, can't tell you how many yellow jackets I have killed. This is simply a way to keep you on-line longer. I want a game not another job, VERANT listen to your customers.

recently, the very word "thorax" has excited an invoulantary twitch in my eye. you see, i have been killing these yellowjackets for a week with nothing. now, im not just running around looking for them, i am tracking them and spot sniping all of them with dogged determination... i think thaty if verant wants to make newbie armor, amybe they should make the quests newbie doable. it has been nearly impossible for even a lvl31 to do this, so ive said it once, ive said it a million times. /rude verant

Dust does not drop from zombies, but from mummies only... there is a lesser mummy that is a rare spawn on the skeleton hill just outside the wall gate.

Can also go somewhere else to get the dust. I just ran to FP to buy some (a little over 1pp) along with the kalish required for the legplates (sold by vendor at the top of the city office).

Tunic is easier to procure than the sleeves or bracers, which require rare drops from rare spawns.

I wish I wasn't such a giant ******. I spent like hours camping those stupid diseased rat ruins trying to make halfling zombies spawn, because I thought they had a specific dust you had to use. In like 3 hours I got like 7 to spawn, none had dust or anything. It'd make sense for them to have some, but it wouldn't make sense to sit and kill 50000 diseased rats every half hour trying to make them spawn.

Pretty sure it drops off mummies in NRo/Oasis and, therefore, probably WK and anywhere else you find them (Commons, I guess). Think that's where it comes from. Common drop

Where?

Where does one find dark elf skins?

Shadowed assassins or whatever they are in the southeast corner of the west side of Misty Thicket perhaps?

Thanks.

When combining the materials in your box, make sure that you stack the two dark elf skins or else the contents will not combine.
Thank you

If you aren't willing to spend time working for something, then you obvioulsy don't need or want the item enough.

I have been working on this quest since Wed. morning and the Giant Yellowjacket Thorax is next to impossible to find. I have heard rumors that it does exist.. but it's very rare to drop. :-(

So no WAY will this take an hour to accomplish.. more like a week.

Smithing Skill?
# Apr 11 2002 at 4:18 PM Rating: Decent
I haven't done any of the rogue quests yet, but I am wondering if you need any smithing skills, since you need to combine the magical material and the pattern in a forge?

Thanks in advance :)

No skill is required as I did this with my rogue last night. I have never worked smithing using him, but I did see my skill improve to 1 after the 1st piece was fashioned.
BTW, I love the look of this armor! I looks even better in DE form =~)
Kinda reminds me of Lambent, but using chainmail textures instead... very nice work, Verant.
Is it just me, or does anything else think VI is just trying to make up for the price increase by releasing cool armor attainable at lower levels...
