You say, 'Hail, Hibbs Rootenpaw'

Hibbs Rootenpaw says 'Hello! I am Hibbs Rootenpaw, Master Druid of the Storm Reapers. If you have not yet ventured beyond Rivervale beware of the [dangers] that lurk through out the lands beyond our shire. There are many evil beings that would not hesitate to end the life of a young druid of the Storm Reapers. '

You say, 'What Dangers'

Hibbs Rootenpaw says 'The Teir'Dal, or Dark Elves, to the east have slain a number of brave Storm Reapers that are attempting to cleanse the Nektulos Forest of the corruption caused by the Teir'Dals evil magics. To the west, the human farmers in the Plains of Karana are beset upon by vicious tribes of Gnolls and must valiantly defend their farms. Closer to home the Death Fist Orcs and Goblin Clans Runnyeye and Pick Claws all attempt to control the Misty Thicket and chop down its sturdy trees for lumber. If you are planning on leaving the safety of Rivervale I advise you to deliver this note to Bartle Barnick. He will help you get yourself outfitted for survival in the wilds. When he has outfitted you in a suit of protective leather return here for [further instruction]. '

You say, 'Further instructions.'

Hibbs Rootenpaw says 'If you feel you are ready for the responsibility of an important task then you may assist with the [investigation] of the ancient cursed fields in the Misty Thicket. The crumbling walls that surround the cursed fields are believed to have been constructed around the same time as the ruined tower and the great wall of Cetelt. We Storm Reapers believe that the walls once surrounded beautiful and fruitful gardens. The arrogance of the caretaker of the gardens offended the Gods and in turn the gardens were cursed with disease and an evil power that animates the corpses of the dead. The Scarecrow, Old Gourdhead, stands in one of these two fields and warns passers by that it is an accursed place. Recently someone has been placing rats in the fields to become diseased. '

*Hand note to Bartle Barnick*

Bartle Barnick says 'It is good to see another of our young people choose the humble life of a druid of Karana. I have assembled that will allow you to construct some protective leather garments to keep you comfortable in the wilds and help turn aside the weapons of the Storm Reapers enemies. The required components for the leather vary according to which piece of Moss Toe Leather you are planning on crafting. Do you wish to craft a [moss toe cap], a [moss toe bracer], [moss toe gloves], [moss toe boots], [moss toe sleeves], [moss toe leggings], or a [moss toe tunic]. '

You say, 'Moss Toe Leggings'

Bartle Barnick says 'To assemble Moss toe Leggings you will require three [silk thread], two mossy rat pelts, and two giant wood spider femurs. Once you have the necessary components combine them in your Mail Assembly Kit with this Tattered Leggings Pattern. '

the hardest part of this piece is the pelts not the femurs. what i did was go to the ruins and hit a few rats and then once i got a few on me, LIGHTNING! keep it up and they will die. if you spell keeps getting interupted then melee or get a tank to go with you. of course always auction that you want to buy the pelts and want to loot the femurs because if someone finds them chances are that they dont need them. of course if you get tired of killing rats go past the wall and kill every single spider in sight, even if it isnt a giant wood spider. the other ones will make them spawn. the femurs for me were a easy find, although this might not be the case for other people. hope this helps all you little druids.

another thing, the silk threads are tailored from spiderling silks, which, incase you didnt know, come from SPIDERLINGS! put two in a tailoring kit and combine and you get a silk thread. this is possible after putting only one point into tailoring although you may fail a little. and if anyone is having trouble combining these items, be sure that you have GIANT wood spider FEMURS, regular mossy rat pelts, and that the silk threads are not stacked. also make sure the pattern is in the box along with all the materials.

2 things. You don't have to put a point in tailoring to start and you never fail on threads or silk swatches, which is 2 spider silks combined.
All this trouble!

Sheesh, I decided to take my druid to rivervale today to try out this newbie armor quest. But if it is this difficult to find these darn pelts/femurs I might just change my mind. At fist I couldn't find any Giant wood spider hairs. Then I couldn't get any Mossy pelts, so I said "Lemme go online to see what's up". I'll give it another hour & hope that Karana is by my hairy side on this one. =)

See you around =)

I have been hunting these Giant Wood Spiders now for over 40Hours.I have had 3 people helping at most times and still not 1 femur has dropped. Now the phrase "COMMON" has got a new meaning LoL!!!I hope verant would take a look at this quest.I have talked to (2)different people who have gotten (1) Femur in 2 weeks time.I guess this is the latest uber twinking armor.Well enough ranting and raving.I hope all the new class specific armor is not this difficult to obtain.
Femurs - oops

I meant for people on the Rallos Zek server to send the feedback, sorry for not mentioning that.
Thx again.
Femurs - WHAT THE HELL!!

I have all the moss toe armor pieces now except for these leggings. I've killed dozens of giant wood spiders. I spend about 3/4 of my time on eq now just killing these spiders hoping they'll drop femurs. I've found 3 thoraxes, 3 hairs, 2 patellas, 3 tarsi, as well as multiple Large wood spider tibias and plenty of giant thicket rat skulls- but not _ONE_ giant wood spider femur! _Ever_! I asked around and found out a few others were having the same problem. I suppose it could be just that the item only drops rarely- fine. Or that there are a lot of people hunting for the same items- fine. But most likely it must be a combination of the two, making it damn near impossible lately to get the two giant wood spider femurs required for the moss toe leggings. This post is getting way too long, so I'll just put out my suggestion now:

Everyone (low level druids in rivervale especially since this concerns you) please send a feedback asking them to make giant wood spiders spawn more frequently in misty thicket, as this is a problem that needs fixing asap.

Thanks all, let me know if you have any luck with this quest- or if I'm just having really crappy luck with this. =P

#Anonymous, Posted: May 15 2002 at 10:22 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) femurs drop off LARGE WOOD SPIDERS NOT giant wood spiders
RE: Femurs
# Jul 11 2002 at 1:11 PM Rating: Good
femurs drop from the giant wood spiders, thats why they are called GIANT WOOD SPIDER femurs. yes large wood spiders do drop femurs but the ones you need are from GIANT and NOT LARGE

Mossy rat pelts
# May 01 2002 at 9:11 PM Rating: Default
What do these drop off of? Diseased rats? Large Thicket rats?
RE: Mossy rat pelts
# May 23 2002 at 12:45 PM Rating: Good
Diseased rats drop all kinds of mossy rat pelts, undamaged, regular and ruined. Good luck, you will love your full suit.
mossy rat pelts
# Apr 21 2002 at 6:22 PM Rating: Default
They take forever to drop, I've killed over 200 rats and got 40 ruined mossy rat pelts and 4 undamaged mossy rat pelts, but never a mossy rat pelt. I've got both femurs needed, but they also take alot of kills before they drop.

I must have killed about 50 or so giant wood spiders. I have gotten 1 femur , 4 hairs, and 3 thorax, along with spiders silk. Getting very frustrating. Still need another femur and the patella, which I have not seen, nor has anyone with whom I have talked. You would think they would drop a bit more frequently for newbie armor quest items.

Has anyone found out if the "two mossy rat pelts" for the leggings are Undamaged or Ruined? I hate to combine the wrong things....

There are pelts that are just called "Mossy Rat Pelts" they drop about as often as Undamaged ones do.
