You say, 'Hail, Megosh Thistlethorn'

Megosh Thistlethorn says 'Greetings _____! I am Megosh Thistlethorn first Ranger of the Storm Reapers of Rivervale. I journeyed many years ago to the Surefall Glade far to the west of our lovely shire. It was there I trained with the human and half-elven rangers that like the Storm Reapers are faithful disciples of Karana. I have returned now to Rivervale to teach our interested young people the ways of a ranger of the Storm Lord, so that we may defend our shire and the wilds of Norrath from the [evil forces] that would see it destroyed.'

You say, 'What evil forces?'

Megosh Thistlethorn says 'Currently the Death Fist Clan of Orcs, a race of bloodthirsty humanoids concerned only with expanding their territory and slaughtering all who stand in their path, threatens our homeland. The Orcs have long had a minor presence in the Misty Thicket but lately they have been amassing in greater numbers. The Death Fist has been chopping down our trees and quarrying rock from the nearby mountains. We know only that they have been shipping the materials to the commonlands and stockpiling it for what purpose we do not know. As rangers of the Storm Reapers it is our duty to [stop the desecration] of the thicket.'

You say, 'I will stop the desecration'

Megosh Thistlethorn says 'First you must outfit yourself for battle with the Death Fists. Seek Bipdo Hargin here in Rivervale and give him this letter. He will instruct you further on getting yourself outfitted for the tasks ahead. Once you have been outfitted in a suit of Thorn Mail Armor return to me and I will instruct you for your [next task]. '

Find Bipdo Hargin at location -222.35, -71.61, -21.81 and give him the note.

Bipdo Hargin says 'Pleased to meet you _____! You must be one of Megosh's new trainees. Megosh has asked me to help get you outfitted in a suit of armor to protect you from the vile weapons of Rivervales foes. I have assembled a kit for you that will allow you to construct the armor pieces once you have gathered the necessary components. The required components vary according to which piece of Thorn Mail armor you are planning on assembling. Do you wish to craft a [thorn mail coif], a [thorn mail bracer], [thorn mail gloves], [thorn mail boots], [thorn mail sleeves], [thorn mail leggings], or a [thorn mail tunic]. '

You say, 'What next task?'

Megosh Thistlethorn says 'If you feel you are ready to face the Orcs of Clan Death Fist then journey to the Misty Thicket beyond the protection of the Wall of Cetelt. Hunt the Orcs that are cutting down the trees of the thicket and bring me two of the Orc Lumberjack Axes and two of the Orc Lumberjack Machetes. '

Hunt orcs in Misty Thicket until you get two axes and two machetes. Bring them back to Megosh.

Megosh Thistlethorn says 'Excellent work young Storm Reaper _____. Now take this Dull Storm Reaper Machete to a [forge] and sharpen it with a sharpening stone. It may take several attempts to get the blade to an adequate sharpness if you are unfamiliar with the process. Once it is sharpened give it to Bodbin Gimple with a ruined thorn drakeling scales and he will put the finishing touches on what will be a fine weapon! '

Bodbin Gimple says 'I require the Sharpened Storm Reaper Machete and a Ruined Thorn Drakeling Scales for the Storm Reaper Thorn Machete. '

Bodbin Gimple fashions a grip out of the thorn drakeling scales then tests and polishes the blade of the machete. 'Yer another one of Megosh's trainees I suppose. This here's a fine weapon for a young Ranger of the Storm Reapers like yerself.'

Thorn Mail Crapchette.

I would say all the other Thorn Mail items are worth while to a new player stating out... However the time required to obtain this item, You would have gotten better from another player, or threw the Bazaar in less time.

NOT worth the time to go after.

------------------------------------------

As to What to do to actually obtain it?

Well, me at 40th level, and a BST friend at 55 went threw Misty killing everything that spawned. After about 3 hours, I had 2 axe's and 2 machette's. The Orc Lumberjacks are rare spawns comparably... and dont always drop an axe, or a machette. Id say about 1 in 8 dropped one or the other.

Time consuming, to say the least.

Oh, as to the item image, it looks like a Machette in your hand.
Bad luck?

Maybe I am just having bad luck, but I have yet to see a single axe from these lumberjacks. I have gotten like 6 machettes, and untold rusties, but no axes. Anyone else had this problem?

True enough they are giving better armor for newbies but I think it is a fair shade cruel in the respect that it is so difficult to get a primary component for the ranger gear. Put a couple more drakes in at least so people don't have to spend a week (RL) tracking for enough scales. Aside from that good-on-em'

the reward is a storm reaper thorn machete, lore, item 4 27 1 str 1 dex 1hs, has the graphic of a centi short sword, both hands, ranger halfling only

I'd take it for roleplaying reasons... any newb worth his weight in copper pieces could afford a tentacle whip (4/25 Effect: Lifetap, procs at 4 or earlier)... not the greatest weapon, but it only costs 1 or 2pp to get.

It is also non-magical which makes it useless against critters such as willowisps and ghouls.
