You say, 'Hail, Talorial D`Estalian'

Talorial D`Estalian says 'On what grounds do you think you are welcome to address me like that vermin? I am afraid you will have to prove yourself to me before I can treat you with any respect. Do you feel that you are [worthy] to stand before me? '

You say, 'I feel that I am worthy'

Talorial D`Estalian says 'Very well then, you are lucky that I have been looking for some sort of an apprentice to help me out in gathering some hides from those nasty halflings. I did have a young one as yourself working for me before but unfortunately they didn't work out as you can see by looking at this autopsy table. I would hope that you will complete my [tasks], for your sake. '

You say, 'What tasks'

Talorial D`Estalian says 'If you are willing to [gather some items] that are needed for specific halfling hides I can offer you with the resources necessary to fashion your own armor. '

You say, 'I will gather some items'

Talorial D`Estalian says 'Excellent Nenriu. Please take this Old Enchanted Tailors Kit. It contains magical power that is able to fashion specific components into a magical version of whatever the core material is. If you are a Necromancer you will need to gather halfling hides that have been infused with many different elements that you will collect and combine in this box. Simply tell me what pattern you [want] and I will present you with the recipe necessary for [Gloves], [Robe], [Trousers], [Sleeves], [Skullcap], [Bracers] and [slippers]. I would recommend you fashion your Robe last due to the difficulty and complex nature that is involved with finding the items necessary. '

You say, 'what final test'

Talorial D`Estalian says 'The final test that I require one to complete before I am content with them being knowledgable in the early ways of Necromancy is one that will test your determination. Are you ready to be tested? '

You say, 'I am ready to be tested'

Talorial D`Estalian says 'Very well child. There is an ancient tome of Necromancy called the Writ of the Fallen. I have kept the binding of this sacred tome for a very long time however I have never searched for the pages that form the writ. If you are able to recover the 4 pages of the writ I have faith that you posses the power to bind them to this empty tome that I carry. Seek out these pages and bind them to this tome. I assure you that you will learn much from this writ shall you construct it once again. I believe the pages were in the hands of spirits that haunt the Ultricle still to this day. Good luck and excellent work. '

Talorial D`Estalian will not give you the Ancient Book Binding on live servers.

This is a known bug that has never been (probably will never be) fixed.

Quite frustrating - I spent two solid weeks trying to get the scout scalps for the bracers and hat just so I could do the final part.

About a 9 hour or so camp for the 4 Tome Inserts.

Followed Candlelight's suggestions; here what I observed:

Looking toward zone out to Lavastorm, there is not any runic columns visible. Moving West (over a rise), you come to the Ultricle (column with rune on it), and two Tier 'Dahl. Slarn K'Vekn states that this is the place where the sick, weak, dying, and dead that have not earned a nobel death are left to rot.

This is the aforementioned graveyard.

Placeholders for all Undead Stewards are Rotten Citizens, as far as I can tell, with the exception of Tome 3.

Standing on ridge South of the Ultricle, facing North, a little to the North West is a tree on a hill behind the Tier'Dahl that have been staked out for execution. This is the point where Tome 1 starts its journey from (1661.37,1083.13,37.39) to (1760.09,1009.84,21.53) and back. So, basically from the tree to midpoint between it and the staked out folks (around a line of rocks) and back.

Tome 2 and Tome 4 Have odder routes. Both begin at (1628.71, 126.13,2.73)by a stump about midway across the zone to the East outside the grey area from the meteor path to Lavastorm, classically referred to as the Graveyard. Two starts a little South, Four to the North. Both path towards the Ultricle. Tome 2 ends roughly between the ridge overlook and a stone outcropping (1789.31,853.91,18.42). Tome 4 ends closer to the Western side of the Ultricle (1786.04,924.57,27.43).

A second Tome 4 spawn (possibly) South of the Ultricle (1601.66,969.48,7.06) and paths to North of the Ultricle (1961.35,924.37,23.52).

Tome 3 had me stumped. Per Candlelight, Tome 3/4 are from same spawn and did not have a drop. I had been killing random mobs around the surrounding area, and had killed a Rotten Initiate far East of the Tome 2/4 spawn point. He was located on a hill overlooking the area, and had not seen one path to the Ultricle. Not sure how many mins later, I was in the area when the Steward popped at (1576.33,-336.69,144.13).

Great guide by CandlelightofHammer, thank you.

I followed this guide to the letter and, got all 4 pages in 2 days of camping. I did notice something buggy though. I have not done the armor quests and, went straight to this one. When I try to get the Final Text from Talorial, after saying, "I am ready to be tested", he doesn't say it. So, do I have to have all the armor pieces done to do the final task?

For two days now all that pops at the location listed for Tome 3 is a Rotting Initiate. Oh well, maybe time to buy a book, where is the nearest book store, lol.

EDIT: No sooner than I post this, the Steward spawned at the exact spot mentioned. I guess patience is a virtue!

In the new Nektulous there is an undead area to the left of the bridge coming from Neriak. There are a lot of Undead Stewards there. I was able to get all 4 pages in about 20mins.

I really want to thank CandlelightofHammer for her great post on the Stewards! I had been fighting here for the past few days, hour or so per day, and had quickly gotten pages 1,3, and 4...but 2 - no luck. I read her tips...went to the area she mentioned, and voila - I had page 2 within 10 minutes!!!

Thanks again - it was indeed a wonderful help!

# Mar 16 2004 at 2:15 PM Rating: Decent
This quest is broken. I spent nearly 4 weeks camping this guy for 8 hours a day everything here is green now. I have seen close to 1,100 page 1, around 400 page 3 and 200 page 4 not one single page 2. Don't waste your time. I have seen epic camps easier then this one. The item is just not worth it.

Got several pages 1, 3, and 4 in an hour and a half hunting, and page 2 dropped off the first Undead Steward the next time I logged in. Who knows, maybe someone saw your post and tweaked the drops.
Unfortunately, some of these guys also were dropping "a tattered journal" pages 1, 2, and 3, and I haven't a sweet clue what these are for. Anyone know?

Hope that helps.

Maybe it depends on the server... I am on Tunare. I spent a whole night hunting there... Well actually 1 hour and the rest of the night waiting (in vain) for the stewards to re-spawn...
Anyway I got two pages 1, two pages 2, and one page 4... And you say there's tons of pages 3, so I can't believe I won't get it next time I hunt there...

just did some of this quest tonight, mar 24th and got page 4 and 2 in 3 kills. hope the rest fall that fast. but page 2 is falling.

Update: got all four pages with little trouble. For me page 1 was the rare drop but found it twice in 3 kills today.

Did you finally get this, or have you not gone back to it? I am looking to see if anyone recently has completed this before I try it.

Do pages from a journal differ to the tome pages, I got pages 1-3 but they are journal pages, and I got page 4 but that is a Tome page, so should there be 1-3 of a tome pages?
RE: Hmmmmmm
# Jan 02 2004 at 6:52 AM Rating: Decent
They should be something like Tome Insert (1-4) , the journal pages are for something else..

AFAIK, the tome pages only drop from Stewards, and the journals come from Annalkeepers. Both of which vary in level, but so far have hovered around 10-12 for the stewards, and 11-12 for the Annalkeepers, basing this on my own cons at level 11.

# May 25 2003 at 4:31 PM Rating: Excellent
I did this quest at lvl 9 with my necromancer. I had been fighting at the graveyard place for the last level, and it only took about 45 minutes of playing to get all of the pages. The stats on the tome are great for a newbie quest, and I'd like to recommend this quest to all necros who fight in the "graveyard" area.

Good luck to everyone for doing this quest.

where exactly are these people that drop these pages, what zone and how do you get there from plane of power
RE: where
# Jan 02 2004 at 6:45 AM Rating: Decent
Where they are is explained very well in another post here, but as to how to get there from planes of power..

Take the Neriak portal, follow the road first south, then east, and you'll hit a T-Junction, head right (north) and follow the road right to the lavastorm zone - marked with a single guard. The area begins just to the left (west) of the road at this point.

Hope this helps.

It's the parts to quests like this that make me want to hunt down the Sony programmers and do nasty and violent things to them. But I will refrain this time cause I made my tome. But during the 14 hours I camped those blasted steweards, I think I noticed something.

I've come to the conclusion that there are actually 4 different stewards. They all path, somewhat, differently, and each drops a different page. There PH's run the same path they do.

So we're all orientating to the "graveyard" the same way, I'm standing on the path from Neriak (that goes into Lavastorm zone) between the two rock columns and facing West.

Move due west towards the graveyard (no tombstones, don't get excited. It's just a gray rocky area with runed obelisks and undead wandering around.. zombies, skellies, the usual suspects, in the northwest corner of the zone.)

Page 1: as you approach the edge of the rocky area, a skelly will spawn or there might be an undead wandered a short two step path back and forth. It could even be a steward. Kill the PH's til the steward pops then kill steward. Bingo! page 1. This mob sometimes walks there from the far west wall but once there, does that little 2 step dance back and forth til someone puts it out of my misery.

Page 3 and 4: on your left is a small rise. There are two obelisks along that rise. One mob will pop between them (note: many of these mobs pop when you cross the trigger loc on the map). If you watch awhile, you'll see undead (sometimes a pair) wander eastward along that ridge, come almost to the edge and wander back westward. These are the stewards or their PH's. Kill PH's until stewards pop. Kill both stewards. One will drop pg. 3 and the other pg. 4.

Page 2: Obtain a prescription for a good nerve pill or sedative or choose your favorite form of self medication. This is the rare drop part of the quest. There is an undead councilman, an undead Annalkeeper, misc undead things and, sometimes a steward that walks a diagonal along the west end of the graveyard from the southwest corner of the gray area and cuts across in a north east past just east of the camp fire. Kill whatever spawns along this track and eventually a Steward will pop and take that track. He'll drop page 2.

I hunted this zone from level 8 to 12 with my level 8 pet the whole time with only a few ugly incidents. Watch the path that 3 and 4 take... you can get multiple spawns along there of citizens, skellies and mummies. Pull your mobs the north or west wall or to the grass. Use all your dots, tank, heal pet, impart strength on pet, ward undead and lifespike yerself silly. Smack the occasionaly decaying that walks by to grab a weapon for your pet. It makes a difference to the amount of damage he does.

Talorial Destalian will give you a combine kit, the name of which eludes me but relates to a "an ancient tome binder". Put the 4 pages in. Hit combine. It creates your Writ.

And in case you're not paying attention, Talorial is the npc that gives the quest. (See top of page.)

One Steward spawns in a clearing, on the grass right of the LS zone. When it spawns a bug in pathing makes it walk 2 paces forward, turn around, 2 paces, etc etc, the place holder does this also. PH is a rotting citizen i think...its a very distinctive spawn since its not on the rocky area and is like 20ft from the path

This quest is well worth doing: at 36 my Necro still hasn't found a better item for the secondary hand that's available at an affordable price. Maybe I was lucky, but back when I was doing the quest (around level 12 AFAIR) I only took a couple of hours to find all the pages, and was getting decent XP from the skellies too; just keep killing Stewards and eventually you'll get them all.
Holy crap

Ok, here's a tip. Use sense the undead in the area to the right of lavastorm zone when looking into the forest. I got very very very lucky and the first 4 stewart's I killed gave me tome 4, then 1, then 2, and finally I crapped my pants cus it gave me tome 3 like 2 minutes later. I even destroyed these pages before until I knew about the quest and the total time spent on this was about 17 minutes. :p Do this quest and use sense undead, it helps tons.
Takes awhile to finish
# Oct 18 2002 at 7:14 PM Rating: Decent
All of the 4 Tome Insert pages come from the Undead Stewards which walk around the northwestern part of Nektulos forest. The small area they are pretty much confined too is the stone covered hills to the left of the exit to Lavastorm.

After hunting for several days for them to show up, I realized that hunting the Leatherfoot Scouts made the Stewards spawn sooner. I went through several hours of nothing, went to kill several halflings, and when I came back there were 2 Stewards walking by.

Long quest to complete, but the Writ is worth it!

i have found that killing halflings is not the only way to get the steward to spawn the Undead Annalkeeper is its place holder

I'm not sure if that's true because I've seen multiple annals and stewards up at the same time. I'm pretty sure you just keep killing undead and they will spawn. As long as you have your lvl 8 pet you should have no trouble clearing the calcified, greater, and other ones as well as the zombie citizens and stuff. Although I've seen a steward in a little ditch really close to the marked stone near the lavastorm zone. It's probably just a stopping spot for all mobs but I've seen one there like 5+ times even when I wasn't killing them.

just finished this quest today; took me about 8 hours all told (2 hrs a day ofer 4 days >.<) on luclin at least, i found that page 4 drops the most common, while page 2 is the rare drop. ended up finding 8 or 9 page 4's, maybe 4 page 3's and 2 page 1's, but the only thing holding up my operation was page 2...but i got it and i must admit that in addition to looking cool, the stats on the writ are awesome. i can see using this till level 30 at least. very nice newbie toy.

I completed the quest tonight with my lvl 15 Necro.
All you do after you get the Tome to combine the pages in is go near the entrance to Lava Storm Mountains. To the left of lava storm mountains(if you are heading toward that zone) is where I found the Undead Stewards. I got the first 3(in no particular order) rather fast, the fourth appears to drop at a much lower rate. Total time to get all 4 was about 2 hours and i would say 1 hour and 45 min's of it was waiting for 1 to drop the fourth.

One comment on getting the Stewards to spawn.
I did not kill Halflings to make them spawn,HOWEVER, at the time i was killing them there were a few people trying to get halfling hides so i know they were being killed.

Hehehe i just wanted to say i got this book last night! it was fricking kickass! but the only way to camp the ruins safely is not to be in the rocky area medding.. sit over on the grass and have your pet guard there as you pull with your undead spell.. it is safe! and i didn't die one time doing this.. and when the steward pops you will see it!
