Visit Ulraz S`Lon in the Lodge of the Dead, Neriak 3rd Quarter. He is one of the Shadow Knight guildmasters in the center room on the first floor of the building, this is in the room your newly created character appeared in and he is listed in the find function.

NOTE: You only need to do this part if you need a Mail Assembly Kit container. If you have the container from a previous combine, you can skip straight to Krivn S`Tai.

You say, 'Hail, Ulraz S`Lon'

Ulraz S`Lon says 'So you are the next pathetic maggot I have the displeasure of training to be a useful Shadowknight of the Lodge of the Dead. First you must get yourself outfitted in a suit of [armor], those rags you wear can not even contain the stench of your miserable hide and will do no good protecting it from the edge of an enemies blade.'

You say, 'What armor?'

Ulraz S`Lon says 'Seek Krivn S'Tai in the Commoner quarter of Neriak and give him this request parchment. Krivn S'Tai has been paid in advance by the Lodge of the Dead for the requested service. Simply give him the request parchment and he will instruct you further. When you have outfitted yourself in a suit of armor return to the Lodge of the Dead and I will grant you [another task].'

Take the Parchment he gives you to Krivn S`Tai in the Blue Flame in Neriak Commons (65, -885, -40, he is listed on find as an armor merchant).

When you hand him the note:

Krivn S`Tai says 'So you are one of Ulraz's new recruits. You are to assist in the construction of the armor you will don as a new Shadowknight of the Lodge of the Dead. I have assembled a kit that is used in the crafting of Bone Mail. You must travel beyond Neriak into the Nektulos Forest for the [materials] that compose the armor.'

You receive an 8-slot container called a Mail Assembly Kit.

You say, 'What materials?'

Krivn S`Tai says 'Many species of dangerous creatures and even the walking remains of the dead inhabit the Nektulos Forest. You must defeat these creatures and undead in order to obtain the materials. The materials you seek depend on the piece of armor you desire. Do you desire to craft [gloves], [boots], a [bracer], a [coif], [leggings], [sleeves], or a [tunic]?'

You say, 'Tell me about the tunic'

Krivn S`Tai says 'To craft a Bone Mail Tunic you require four [silk thread], a medium quality wolf skin, a calcified sternum, and a calcified ribcage. Once you have the necessary components combine them in your Bone Mail Kit with this Tattered Tunic Pattern.'

You receive a Tattered Tunic Pattern.

You say, 'Where does silk thread come from?'

Krivn S`Tai says 'Silk Thread is sewn by a tailor using a [sewing kit] or a community [loom]. Two spiderling silks combined in the sewing kit or loom will create one silk thread.'

You say, 'What is a sewing kit?'

Krivn S`Tai says 'A sewing kit may be purchased at the Furrier Royale in Neriaks Third Quarter or at the Silk Underground in Neriaks Foreign Quarter. A community loom may be found at the Silk Underground in Neriaks Foreign Quarter.'

You say, 'And where would I find a loom?'

Krivn S`Tai says 'A sewing kit may be purchased at the Furrier Royale in Neriaks Third Quarter or at the Silk Underground in Neriaks Foreign Quarter. A community loom may be found at the Silk Underground in Neriaks Foreign Quarter.'

Gather the items and armor pattern, then combine in the Mail Assembly Kit.

NOTE: The container isn't consumed in the combine, so you can keep it for other armor pieces.

Ribcage is a hard drop
# Jul 07 2005 at 9:47 AM Rating: Decent
Hey for all you calcified seekers, I am having a tuff time getting a skelly drop for a calcified ribcage. I have a sternum but ribcage is not showing up. Still on the hunt for it in the Nektulous Forest, alot of "a skeleton" rarely any "calcified skeleton". East commons is great for xping alone alot of blues when your 6th level. As well as things you need for quests and whatnot, check there for skellies, fire beetle's eye, ruin cat pelt and whatever else you need for quest items. Hope this helps who reads!
Bone Mail Quest

I had my SK complete the Bone Mail Armor Quest long after he had any use for the items just so I can have a complete set of newbie armor as all my other characters have done. The most difficult piece was the Calcified Sternum. I had gotten all the others pieces long before I got this piece. It does in fact drop (as of last nite, 3/12/04) and it dropped off a Greater Skeleton at the monolith by the EC zone. I figured I spent approximately 30 hours just for this piece alone. Interestingly this morning I was hunting for the Basilisk Hatchling Hide at the Ultricle for the shield and lo and behold a Greater Skeleton pops and upon dispatching he dropped a guess what.... a Calcified Sternum. To bad I was only one in the zone at the time.
Be aware of several things with this quest. The wording given by the quest givers Ulraz S`Lon, SK guildmaster, and Krivn S'Tai, armorer, is slightly off. When Krivn S'Tai speaks of either pelts or skins, they are used interchangably as the alternate worded item worked just fine. The same goes for Ulraz S`Lon when he speaks of Basilisk Hatchling Skins whereas it is the Basilisk Hatchling Hide that he speaks of. Evidently the grammar police haven't gotten this far in the last patch. So don't despair when you think you haven't gotten the piece you have, the slight wording difference is a little misleading.
Oh and please use your class spells. SK's are NOT pure melee they have a battery of useful spells at their command. When hunting for the pieces I recommend using Sense Undead spell. It helps locating the mobs you need for the drops. A bonus here is its a Divination skill spell and using this spell often will see a steady progression of skill ups. Also I recommend using Ward Undead. Its a great spell to use for pulling especially where mobs are close together. Its causes little aggro but its a Evocation skill spell. Use it early to get that up. Why, well its works great in a place like Mistmoore LDoN dungeons when where you need to be careful not to train multiple mobs.
Hope all this helps.

Never saw a sternum
# Jan 02 2004 at 1:01 PM Rating: Decent
I've been on this quest for 15 levels now. I've kill literally hundreds of calcified and greater skells, seen dozens of every other bone needed. I have yet to find a sternum. It is really bad now because everything is green now and seems to be a waist of time now to even look for it. But I still spend about an hour a day trying to get it. Last piece needed for full set. LVL 15 SK.

Must have sternum. I have had many ribcage drop, but no sternum. Most of my bone parts needed came from the monolith near EC zone. Don't know witch class it is but there were quite a few halfling bones drop here as well. Have been calling in /ooc all the peices I already have. I have one tibia for the legs and the pelvic bone. Need one more tibia and the sternum, and the aror will be done. I have spent a few hours, for the past 3-4 days camping the monolith. Most of the stuff is now green and light blue to me. I have been killing other things that give better exp, pretty much anything that roams around there. I just want to be done with this quest. Very frustrating.

newbie armor stinks
# Jun 01 2003 at 10:17 AM Rating: Default
this is a further example of why most of the newbie armor quests stink .
its way to hard & takes way to much time for what you get !
i say the heck with it . just lvl till 6 around the newbie area the go to p. caverns on shadeweaver thicket side & kill shrooms & beetles... then fiends till about lvl 15 or so then go to hunt bandits, shrooms, & fiends on the shadowhaven side & you will lvl VERY fast , get bronze armor off bandits and/or have money to buy as good if not BETTER armor than the newbie quest items.
instead of wasting time doing the quests & taking a long time to lvl , this way you can buy or kill for armor & get on to more interesting quests or fights at a much higher lvl .
good hunting!
Drop Rates
# Dec 17 2002 at 10:04 AM Rating: Decent
My level 13 and half shadow knight has been working on these quests since about level 3. I have yet to see a single Humerous bone drop. I did see three Calcified Ribcages drop in a row off Greater Skeletons at the monolith near the EC zone. Too bad there were no other Shadow Knights in the zone.
List of Components
# Mar 31 2003 at 9:08 AM Rating: Good
Made a list of the items required to make a full set of the armor. This does not include the appropriate patterns required.

17 - Silk Threads which equals 34 spiderling silks
6 - Ruined Wolf Pelts
2 - LQ WOlf Pelts
1 - MQ Wolf Pelt
2 - Calcified Footbones
2 - Calcified Fingerbones
2 - Calcified Ulnas
2 - Calcified Tibias
2 - Calcified Humerus
1 - Calcified Skull
1 - Calcified Pelvis
1 - Calcified Sternum
1 - Calcified Ribcage

If ya want to add the Bonemail Shield to the list you need (4) Petrified Femurs

On Wolf Pelts and the difficulty of this Quest
# Oct 05 2002 at 10:40 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, wolf "skins" will work in place of "pelts." Actually I don't think it'll work any other way.
Anyway, as to the difficulty of this Quest; well, yeah, it sucks. BUT, when we all create our character we are all told a little something about the High Difficulty of playing said race/class combination. I dunno, maybe that has something to do with it. That's my opinion, I could be wrong.

I believe that the race/class difficulties are more for npc interaction than for newbie quests. I might be wrong....well actually I'm not.

Doggie pelts, the big mystery.
# Aug 29 2002 at 12:17 PM Rating: Decent
There seems to be a lot of controversy on my server regarding SKINS and PELTS. Does anyone know if skins will work for the quest? I've killed at least a hundred black wolves and shadow wolves, and I've only come across low, medium quality SKINS, not PELTS, which is what the recipes call for. An higher level SK told me that he tried using a skin and it didn't work. I've people tell me that they have a pelt, only to realize later that it's actually a skin. Has anyone had success using skins or do you have to go elswhere to get the quality wolf pelts?
ribcage

I've been working on these armor pieces for about 8 levels now, and if I didn't think it looked so cool, I would say it wasn't worth it. I'm only a ribcage away from completing the full set. Since the patch that let you keep your stuff when you die until 9, this is a great way to work on exp, and collect cool armor before heading out into the light infested world beyond Nek. My question is: Does anyone know who drops the calcified ribcage?

Sick of killing Greater skels
# Jul 30 2002 at 8:43 AM Rating: Default
I have been killing greater skels for a week and a 1/2 the drop rate is terrible for the calcified ribcage, sternum, humerus bones to complete the "Newbi Armor". I've camped every place in the forest the best place by far to camp is the monolith by the EC zone ,i'm 2 peices short A humerus and the sternum .... Guess i'm a glutten for punishment becouse I will complete this set
it seems if you break the spawn cycle once and as they pop takem out the chance for greaters to pop are more likly this is my observation only so take it at that good luck..

VI Needs to Update these Quests
# Jul 26 2002 at 8:40 AM Rating: Decent
Man being one of the first classes to get these quest we got screwed. I've been working on the Bone Mail quest for more time than I care to admit to. I have never seen 2 of the bone's I need to finish my complete quest and the others are so rare it's not funny. I started a Dark Elf Mage and in 5 hours of Leveling and questing She got a full suit of the Caster Armor. A friend of mine started a Human Wizard and in one night has a full suit of Human Newbie Armor. I was just looking over the new Druid armor from Faydwer and in a few hours you can get 90% of the gear just from looking at the venders or killing crap around Kelethin. I think VI needs to kick up the dropps a bit.

I have every thing except the rib cage. The ulna seems to be the commonist drop. The best place to hunt is near the ec zone if you are after the helm or sternum.

I have hunted at the dead zone by lavastorm mountains when I could first start killings skellies (about 8) to now (14). Some of the pieces of the armor take forever! I have camped for hours there and ended up with maybe 3-5 pieces. Mostly all the stuff ya want will drop off calcified skels or greater skeletons; some off decaying council skels or decaying initiates. Some is very rare, after camping for hours I pulled just a few more the last one was a greater skel that had the ribcage! First time I ever saw it, made me freak out for a sec, it was like winning a jackpot. The armor is very cool looking I gotta say when you have it all. =D

I'm relatively new to the game and after a lot of confusion with Krivn S'tai (you need to be on the same side of the counter as him) i noticed the other shadow knights questing for the Bone Mail were above 9th lvl, im lvl nine when writing this and here is what im doing to solo. The pet is one of the most important things you'll need to survive, it will take damage while you DoT the skeletons, I notice that the bones drop off greater skeletons and calcified skeletons. I know this isnt very good advice to the seasoned player but to a newb getting used to the game, this is the way to do it. I currently have the boots, bracer, gloves and helm. after I finished i,m going to leave Nek Forest for the first time with this character, ah well, enough of my ramblings and happy hunting fellow newbies :-)

Hi, a friend of mine found a calcified sternum on a greater skeleton near the entrance to the Lavastorm zone. It must be an extremely rare drop, because I've been camping greater skeletons for days and have yet to see any (I have the complete set of armor otherwise).

A good tip is teamwork. Find another shadowknight camping the other camp and tell them which bones you need, and tell them you will give them bones they need. I got half of my armor that way :)
