This quest is the next step for the Vah Shir Shaman after completing the Vah Shir citizenship quest.

Elder Spiritist Grawleh says 'Present your acrylia slate to spiritist Fehril and he will guide you through your early training. May the strongest of our ancestral spirits be your inspiration.

Give your Acrylia Slate to Spiritist Fehril.

Spiritist Fehril says '_____! So good to see you! It is my honor to guide you for a time. May the spirits inspire my words that you might grow wise in the hearing. You are young and need to be strengthened. Bring me three hairless hides of rockhopper young. You can find them in the crater surrounding our city, formed when the portion of Norrath our city is built upon came to rest in its current location.'

Kill needle clawed rockhoppers in the outskirts of Shar Vahl until you've looted three Hairless Rockhopper Hides. Take these to Spiritist Fehril.

Spiritist Fehril craftily places the hides in a circular frame and hands you the product, 'You've completed my first task and as a reward I present you with this small token. May it serve to protect you from our enemies.' Spiritist Fehril says 'As a member of the sacred Dar Khura, you will be asked to become proficient in the art of brewing. Sweetwater is produced by combining xakra bile and scorpion blood with a flask of water in a brew barrel. Pour two flasks of sweetwater into this cask and return it to me.'

Elder Spiritist Grawleh says 'I know many of the taverns and eateries have their own barrels, but you may want to try Jakhal and Kahala's Brewery. You can find it in the southwestern section of the Merchant's Quarter, or Corridor of Heroes, as I like to call it..

You receive a Hopperhide Buckler and a LORE / NO TRADE Empty Cask.

Brew 2x Sweetwaters and combine them in the Empty Cask. Give the resulting product to Spiritist Fehril.

Spiritist Fehril takes a sip from the cask and furrows his brow, 'Well, it's a start I suppose. With a little practice you are certain to get better. Here is some hide treatment I just made, it will make your buckler stronger. It just needs some time to ferment before I apply it.'

Spiritist Fehril says 'Citizens often need assistance and the Dar Khura must be available whenever possible. Merchant Ayyad has requested someone to run an errand and I am sending you. Return to me with Ayyad's seal, the hide treatment, your buckler, and your initiate's cloak.'

You receive a Hopperhide Treatment.

You say, 'Where is Merchant Ayyad?'

Spiritist Fehril says 'The Merchants' Quarter lies in the middle of the city just east of the Royal Palace.

Merchant Ayyad is just outside the palace walls, standing in a corner another merchant.

You say, 'Hail, Merchant Ayyad'

Merchant Ayyad says 'Hello _____, sorry but I have no time to chitchat. I'm looking for the help of a citizen.'

You say, 'I am a citizen'

Merchant Ayyad looks at you excitedly, 'Show me your acrylia slate and I'll explain my situation.'

Give Ayyad the Slate.

Merchant Ayyad says 'Some of my wares are spoiling and I must place them in a container to preserve them. I cannot afford to take the loss that would result if they were to rot. Please _____, take this bowl and combine two lumps of gray mud with a flask of water and xakra bile. Take the resulting clay and this sketch with another water flask to fashion an unfired gray jar. Fire it in a kiln with a firing sheet and return to me with the product as soon as you can.

You receive Ayyad's Bowl and a Reusable Jar Sketch. Follow Ayyad's instructions to make the gray jar. The Bowl does not go away when you do the combine to make the clay. The sketch is returned to you when you make the unfired gray jar on the pottery wheel. Give the finished gray jar to Ayyad.

Merchant Ayyad says 'Excellent! Please accept this knapsack as payment for your trouble. Here is my seal as well. I can always use more jars and if you give me four of my seals I will share with you a family secret.'

You receive Ayyad's Knapsack, a 4 slot LORE container that weighs 1.5 and can hold medium size items, and also receive Ayyad's Seal.

Go back to Spiritist Fehril and hand in Ayyad's Seal, the buckler treatment, the Hopperhide Buckler, and your Initiate's Cloak of the Shar Vahl.

Spiritist Fehril says 'Well done you _____, your deeds will not go unnoticed. You will now be known throughout the land as an official recruit of the revered Dar Khura. As your status improves so will the rewards for your service. Here is your treated buckler, your new cloak, and a spell I trust you will find a use for. Show your buckler to Fharra Cawfeet and she will continue your training.

Spiritist Fehril shouts 'My fellow Vah Shir, I present to you the newest recruit to the sacred Dar Khura. Kitakata has shown great potential in the service of our sect. Please join me in thanking this citizen for service to our people!

Hide treatment?
# May 14 2021 at 11:55 PM Rating: Decent
No! I don't have a Hide Treatment!?!? I have a Hopperhide Treatment though. I've been doing all the quests for Vah Shir. Doing the shaman now and closing in on the sonic bane weapons for all. I'll have to look through the quests again. There are a few spots where the exact wording could be fixed. I stumble over them and it's like a bad reading comprehension test result but it's not the reader's fault. I brain fart for a while over the input output error. smoke comes out the ears. It's not good for my high blood pressure. Ok the Hopperhide Treatment worked.

There are several items that you can collect while doing these quests. I
Have put together these listings in the hope it will save you a little time
going back and forth to areas or zones.

The items I have marked Tradeskill are the basic items required. To account
for combine failures, you will likely require many more than just the basic
number. The final four items are needed to create items for trade with the
other Vah Shir classes. You will need at least 5 of each. One for yourself
and four to create the items you will need to trade for the other class items
you require.

You will want to get pottery to 54 doing the Gates of Discord freebie progression tradeskill quest. Then you are set to craft the unfired grey jar with sucess. Also do the Gates of Discord freebie progression tradeskill quest for brewing up to 54, get your trophy for it from the halfing in freeport and level it to 140 at a minimum to successfully do all required brewing combines for this questline. Farming ingredients in Hollowshade moor sucks, so do your crafting homework first, so you only have to slog through it one time. Cheers!

Shaman Newbie Gear?
# Nov 14 2004 at 9:34 PM Rating: Decent
I hate posting this question on this particular forum, but I don't know where else to post it. Every other race in EQ has a newbie gear quest where you gather components to make an item for your head, wrists, hands, arms, feet, legs and chest and then after all that you do a quest for some sort of weapon. Is Shar Vahl the ONLY starting city that doesn't give a newbie gear quest to Shamen?

Vah Shir Shaman Epic

Here is the next step of the quest to upgrade the recruit cloak to an apprentice cloak.

As mentioned in the recruit quest, you next go see Fharra Cawfeet. She is the Dar Khura (nurse) attending to the sick scouts in the building accross from Deval, the button girls father, and accross from the 2 forges as well.

Give her your new recruit buckler.

It Looks like she has been up for many hours. She Looks up and says, "Are you here to assist me with these sick citizens? I was told that a few of our newest Dar Khura recruits might be coming to aid me. I could definitely use the help. Here, take this JAR while I explain. Were you told about the tasks that I need help with?"

You say, "NO"

Fharra Cawfeet says, "I was called to this house a few days ago because several members of a recent scouting group have been running slight fevers. The fever is nothing that should alarm you, but we need to tend to them. Tendign to the sick is one of our duties as Dar Khura. Would you be willing to run some errands for me? I cannot leave the scouts unattended."

You say, "I will run some errands for you."

Fharra Cawfeet says, "I need you to make a tonic to help alleviate their fevers. Please head into the cavern system just beyond the thicket. (Paludal Caverns) Gather the hearts of the muck diggers that roam those caverns. (Just go in as far as the first lake area and or the first section of the tunnel beyond it) Their hearts seem to regulate the temperature of their body and can be used in potions and tonics to control temperatures in similar fashion. BREW 2 of those hearts with a flask of water and it should produce the tonic I need. Please fill a blackened clay jar (the jar container that she gives you) with the tonic. (you need to make 4 tonics to "fill" the jar, then hit combine) Try to make it back before I fall over with exhaustion.

OK, you need to go to paludal caverns, from the thicket entrance. Go to the first lake area, and kill Muck Diggers. You may have to kill some of the other Muck mobs first as they are the place holders. While you are here, look for a bluish or purplish mushroom ground spawn in the middle of a white cluster of larger mushrooms. Get one or 2 to save yourself a run back here for one. The hearts seemed to be a faily common drop. I was barely lvl 13 when I went in after them, and after about 40 minutes I dinged 14, and was halfway to 15 before I got all 8 hearts needed to make all four tonics. They con'd DB to me at 13 and at 14. I can't tell ya the trivial to make the tonic as I worked brew to 200 before I started the quests. Same with pottery. I have learned from previous Vah Shir that doing quests over and over because of low trade skill SUX and wastes tons of time. After you get your 8 hearts, head back to Shar Vahl and go to the Brew Barrels near the arena. The recipe is:

2 hearts, 1 water

After you make 4 tonics, put in the Blackened Clay Jar (4 slot container Fharra gave you) and hit combine. Go back to Fharra and give it to her.

Fharra Cawfeet perks up when you hand her the jar. "Many thanks," she excaims, as she digs in her medicine bag. "Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Please take this tincture. It will help to strengthen your buckler. Mydi Darjik can help you to apply it. She is a friend and a wonderful alchemist. Tell her that you need her to treat your buckler. Take care, friend!"

Mydi Darjik is located in the potion shop behind the bank.

Say, "I need you to treat my buckler"

Mydi Darjik says, "Sure, I can help you with that. You'll need a specially soaked cloth to help the tincture set into the material of the shield. Please let me see the buckler so that I can give you teh appropriate size of cloth."

You give her your buckler.

She gives you a long folded cloth.

Mydi Darjik cuts the cloth big enough to cover your buckler twice over and folds it neatly. She puts the cloth on the buckler and hands it to you. she looks around for a moment and says, "Sometimes I feel as if the spirits are playing tricks on me. I'm out of spores. I never seem to run out of spores until the times when I need them most. You'll need to gather them on your own to make the soaking solution."

You say, "How do I make the soaking solution?"

Mydi Darjik say, "It's really not as difficult as it sounds. The spores required to make the solution that you'll need are easy to find. They grow in the dulfis mushrooms that are found in the caves beyond the thicket (paludal caverns). You'll just need to throw the whole mushroom into a flask of water to brew. Once the dulfis has boiled in the water for awhile, you'll get a murky gray liquid. Boil the cloth in that liquid for a bit in the brew barrel and then wrap the steaming cloth around the buckler and the tincture that Fharra gave you. Let the cloth cool and you should see the desired results. Bring the buckler to me once you're done and I'll tell you if you did it correctly."

Put in Brew Barrel:

1 Dulfis Mushroom, 1 flask of water

You get a Murky Gray liquid.

Put in Brew Barrel:

1 Murky Gray liquid, 1 folded cloth

You get a 2 slot container called Steaming Cloth

Put in Steaming Cloth container:
1 buckler, 1 tincture

You get Imbued Hopperhide Buckler
AC 9, Wis +1, SVP +5, wt.3.0 Vah SHM Lore, NO DROP

You give buckler to Mydi Darjik

Mydi Darjik says, "Quite impressive! Quite Impressive indeed! To be honest, it took me a very long time to become that good at imbuing items and enhancing their natural properties. You show a great deal of promise. If you would be willing to help me with another task, I could recommend you for a possible promotion within the ranks of the Dar Khura. I need you to take this bag and fill it with Wet Fang eyes. Just find a stagnant pool of water, spear a wetfang, and pop its eyes out!"

you get a small slimy bag, 8 slots.

Go to Paludal Caverns again, but this time, enter it from Shadow Haven, or fight your way all the way through it from the thicket. But you need to reach the shores of Recondite Lake. It is the lake between the 2 Reconite bandit camps. I was only lvl 14 when I went, but dinged 15 and a bit before I was done. I just casted enduring breath on myself and went for a swim. I found that the eyes dropped in pairs, from a large wet fang. 2 spawned near the center to south end of the lake, and 3 spawned in the covey under the ledge of bandit camp 2, north end of the lake. Took me about 2 hours to get all 8 eyes. Seemed to be a bit less common than the hearts were.

You give Mydi Darjik the combined small slimy bag.

Mydi Darjik says, "Thank you very much! I was almost out of those eyes and I'm sure you'll agree they arn't easy to come by. Your assistance will not go unnoted. Here is the blessing I promised you. Take this token to Spiritist Fehril along with your recruite cloak and your wonderful new buckler. He'll know that I sent you with my blessing. Take care and may the spirits guide you, young Dar Khura."

She gives you a token.

Go give your cloak, buckler, and the token to Spiritist Fehril.

Spiritist Fehril says, "Your progress fills me with pride. Please take these things as a sign of our appreciation. I hope that they help you as you have helped us. When you are ready to continue your training, please contact Jaima Seyel. You'll most likely find her in the Dar Khura Guild hall. (she is right behind you near the door in) She will train you from this point."

Spiritis Fehril Shouts, "Fellow Citizens, may I present to you with our newest Apprentice to the sacred Dar Khura. !@#$%%^ has assisted us for some time now and we can only hope that this assistance doesn't go unnoticed. Now, please join me in thanking !@#$%^ for such a selfless service to our people."

He gives you back your buckler, and upgrades your cloak to an apprentice cloak with a 2 pct modifier now. And this ends the Dar Khura Apprentice portion of the quest.

I have just about completed the next portion, but I am having trouble getting the last piece I need to make the shaman portion of the sonic bane weapon. I need owlbears in the moor, but every time the zone is reset to fix the war, some lvl 60 a holes keep breaking the war so they can farm acrylia from grims. If sony ever fixes the zone so that the war can not be broken, or I can get to the owlbears after a server reset before the zone is broken, I will post the next portion of the quest in its entirity. If not, then you are on your own to fight with the GM's to reset it or help me report the bugged broke zone to get it fixed and just figure it out by yourselfs.

Thanks for the additional info Wirebite, it's been VERY helpful in proceeding on the quest. I have found a link that helps to further explain the quest path for the Vah Shir. Here is the link:

http://www.eqtraders.com/quests/luclin_sonicwolfbane.htm

It would appear that at this point you need the assistance of all the other Vah Shir classes in order to advance to the Journeyman's Cloak. Once that is completed, the quest NPC expalins how to proceed to the next level. I'm not sure what the next level is, or how many levels there are but I do know that each class gets a cloak, based on the Vah Shir sub-diety (SHM's are Dar Khura, etc..). I have found that there are 2 higher end cloaks for SHM and BST. Not sure on the other classes but the 2 that I have uncovered are the Garrison Cloak and the Officers Cloak. I know that this info isn't exactly what everyone is looking for and I'm not sure why it's missing. But, I guess we all will have to either wait for the reposts or do it the hard way. I'm opting for the hard way, sad to say. If I find any further info., I'll be sure to submit it and hopefully we can get them reposted a bit quicker for everyone else.
RE: Vah Shir Shaman Epic
# Jun 28 2003 at 3:18 PM Rating: Decent
Follow the posted link around, and you will get a pretty thorough walk-through up to the Officer level - a cloak listed as Dar Khura Officer's Cloak, AC 12, STR 3, DEX 5, AGI 8, STA 8, WIS 10, HP 50, mana 50, skill mod: brewing 3% (wt 5.0, medium, LORE, NO DROP, VAH/SHM. Pretty nice, but, Lord, the work to get there. Being a barbarian shaman, I am stopping at this point, with just a buckler, as the drop rate for some of these items is just silly.

RE: Vah Shir Shaman Epic
# Jul 23 2003 at 3:01 PM Rating: Decent
Just to let everyone know, the final cloak is called Officers Cloak of Service (or something close to that), Vah Shir only and one cloak for all classes. Send Sony a nice thank you note for doing away with the super sweet cloaks, (bsts had flowing thought IV or better on it, dont know about the rest of the classes). It is AC 18, Str 8, Dex 5, Sta 6, Wis 8, Agi 8, HP 50, Mana 50, and +3 to all resists. NO skill modifiers. Still nice, but hardly a just reward for all the BS you have to go through to get it.
Final turn in for this is the Garrison cloak and the Grimling Documents I, II, and III. The NPC (Veteran Darznel, I think) and the docs are in Grimling Forest. Documents drop during any of the camp raids, or if they are unavailable the Coin Courier can drop them. To get him to spawn just pick a camp and start killing the thugs, thieves, and whatever else may be there. They are around lvl 40ish mobs. Have fun.

There used to be links on Allakhazam that revealed this quest and all the Vah Shir race epics in their entirity. But not now? Where did the data go? Not even the quest items themselfs are listed anymore. Where do I find digested night palm, an ingredient to making the shaman piece of the sonic bane weapon that this quest leads to after you upgrade your cloak to apprentice rank. Which, by the way is not listed either as an item in EQ. It used to be. Where did it go? What comes after this quest? I have my apprentice cloak now, but why is there no links showing this quest in its entirity?

It took myself a while to find the details on this quest becuse I inadvertiently started with Merchant Ayyad' and his bowl. Once I realized which quest this is and checked the quest listed here, all the final rewards are for shaman, and I am playing a beastlord. This is not listed as a shaman's quest but as "all". I guess I can still make bowls...
