This quest is the next step for the Vah Shir Shaman after completing the Vah Shir citizenship quest.

Elder Spiritist Grawleh says 'Present your acrylia slate to spiritist Fehril and he will guide you through your early training. May the strongest of our ancestral spirits be your inspiration.

Give your Acrylia Slate to Spiritist Fehril.

Spiritist Fehril says '_____! So good to see you! It is my honor to guide you for a time. May the spirits inspire my words that you might grow wise in the hearing. You are young and need to be strengthened. Bring me three hairless hides of rockhopper young. You can find them in the crater surrounding our city, formed when the portion of Norrath our city is built upon came to rest in its current location.'

Kill needle clawed rockhoppers in the outskirts of Shar Vahl until you've looted three Hairless Rockhopper Hides. Take these to Spiritist Fehril.

Spiritist Fehril craftily places the hides in a circular frame and hands you the product, 'You've completed my first task and as a reward I present you with this small token. May it serve to protect you from our enemies.' Spiritist Fehril says 'As a member of the sacred Dar Khura, you will be asked to become proficient in the art of brewing. Sweetwater is produced by combining xakra bile and scorpion blood with a flask of water in a brew barrel. Pour two flasks of sweetwater into this cask and return it to me.'

Elder Spiritist Grawleh says 'I know many of the taverns and eateries have their own barrels, but you may want to try Jakhal and Kahala's Brewery. You can find it in the southwestern section of the Merchant's Quarter, or Corridor of Heroes, as I like to call it..

You receive a Hopperhide Buckler and a LORE / NO TRADE Empty Cask.

Brew 2x Sweetwaters and combine them in the Empty Cask. Give the resulting product to Spiritist Fehril.

Spiritist Fehril takes a sip from the cask and furrows his brow, 'Well, it's a start I suppose. With a little practice you are certain to get better. Here is some hide treatment I just made, it will make your buckler stronger. It just needs some time to ferment before I apply it.'

Spiritist Fehril says 'Citizens often need assistance and the Dar Khura must be available whenever possible. Merchant Ayyad has requested someone to run an errand and I am sending you. Return to me with Ayyad's seal, the hide treatment, your buckler, and your initiate's cloak.'

You receive a Hopperhide Treatment.

You say, 'Where is Merchant Ayyad?'

Spiritist Fehril says 'The Merchants' Quarter lies in the middle of the city just east of the Royal Palace.

Merchant Ayyad is just outside the palace walls, standing in a corner another merchant.

You say, 'Hail, Merchant Ayyad'

Merchant Ayyad says 'Hello _____, sorry but I have no time to chitchat. I'm looking for the help of a citizen.'

You say, 'I am a citizen'

Merchant Ayyad looks at you excitedly, 'Show me your acrylia slate and I'll explain my situation.'

Give Ayyad the Slate.

Merchant Ayyad says 'Some of my wares are spoiling and I must place them in a container to preserve them. I cannot afford to take the loss that would result if they were to rot. Please _____, take this bowl and combine two lumps of gray mud with a flask of water and xakra bile. Take the resulting clay and this sketch with another water flask to fashion an unfired gray jar. Fire it in a kiln with a firing sheet and return to me with the product as soon as you can.

You receive Ayyad's Bowl and a Reusable Jar Sketch. Follow Ayyad's instructions to make the gray jar. The Bowl does not go away when you do the combine to make the clay. The sketch is returned to you when you make the unfired gray jar on the pottery wheel. Give the finished gray jar to Ayyad.

Merchant Ayyad says 'Excellent! Please accept this knapsack as payment for your trouble. Here is my seal as well. I can always use more jars and if you give me four of my seals I will share with you a family secret.'

You receive Ayyad's Knapsack, a 4 slot LORE container that weighs 1.5 and can hold medium size items, and also receive Ayyad's Seal.

Go back to Spiritist Fehril and hand in Ayyad's Seal, the buckler treatment, the Hopperhide Buckler, and your Initiate's Cloak of the Shar Vahl.

Spiritist Fehril says 'Well done you _____, your deeds will not go unnoticed. You will now be known throughout the land as an official recruit of the revered Dar Khura. As your status improves so will the rewards for your service. Here is your treated buckler, your new cloak, and a spell I trust you will find a use for. Show your buckler to Fharra Cawfeet and she will continue your training.

Spiritist Fehril shouts 'My fellow Vah Shir, I present to you the newest recruit to the sacred Dar Khura. Kitakata has shown great potential in the service of our sect. Please join me in thanking this citizen for service to our people!

Turned in shield and didn't get cloth
# Jan 18 2002 at 7:11 AM Rating: Decent
I have completed this quest up to the point of giving my shield to Mydi Darjik after getting the tincture from Fharra Cawfeet. I turn the shield in and she only gives the shield back, no cloth. I tried combining the shield, tincture, and murky gray liquid in a brew barrel in various combinations since that was all I had but no luck. Was she also supposed to give me back a cloth to put in the brew barrel with the tincture and murky gray water? I assumed from her description when she gave me the shield back that she had already put the cloth on the shield or something since I didn't get back a cloth. I am on Firiona Vie server and I read that part of this quest is broken there, but at a different step. Wonder if this part is broken, too?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What is the Sonic Wolf Bane quest? I hear people talk about it, but I have no idea what it is, or how it is performed. Would someone please tell me?

Ah yes the hidious "sonic wolf bane weapon" quest...
with a little help my lvl 14 shaman is already working on this one...but I'm afriad it can't be finished till a much later lvl.
to begin with you are "supposed" to buy the 3 books on sonic wolves from one of the historian librarian people in the SouthEast area of the library (down the steps from the palace)..there is a merchant who sells only these 3 books (plus whatever players have sold him)..they run for just about 5pp each...if you don't have the cash then don't buy the first volume, Shamans, rogues, and (I think) beastmasters need the 2nd volume and warriors, bards the 3rd volume...but I could be mistaken on that.

each class has to collect around 4 RARE items, for shamans, I know that 1 item drops from owlbear grapplers in hollowshade.......the others I don't know....you need a rogue's posion making skill, so this is NOT a low lvl quest.....shamans also need a "sonic wolf brain"...I haven't seen one drop but I assume it's from the sonic wolves in hollowshade which are high 20s to around 30s....basically I wouldn't expect to finish this quest before lvl 30....better get lvling

sorry I don't have any info for the other classes :-(

but buy the books as soon as you can so you can keep an eye out for what you need
RE: Forgive my ignorance, but...
# Jan 26 2002 at 1:17 PM Rating: Good
It's actually the baking skill for rogues, not poison. Sonic pups and some wolflings were green to my 25 rogue and they dropped the brains, molars, blood, etc just as much as the upper level wolves and guardians. I know this because I brought my 55 druid there to kill the others hoping I'd get more drops. Went back to getting exp since the lower ones dropped just as much. If I could find the classes that have their parts done, I could finish it now because I have the rogue part done

The Sonic Wolf Bane quest is part of the series of quests for the Vah Shir. Each class has to make a weapon component. After making your component you trade with the other classes for theirs and when you have them all you create your weapon. If you are doing your quest you eventually get to this part of it.

HELP!
I am midway thru the Sweetwater Quest, but could not mix the three elements needed properly (well, at the time had gotten confused & forgot to add water... :(). Now I've got two sweetwaters mixed, but in frustration, destroyed the LORE NO DROP cask.
What's a young Shaman to do? Does anyone know if there's a way to redo the quest, or should I just give up this char & start from scratch?

I have just completed the Sonic Wolf Bane Quest and all I can say is up to this point the quest string isn't broken. The important thing is to combine all items that can be before turning them in to the NPC. When you complete trading with the other classes for the components you will then make your weapon which is an ATK DEL 21 DMG 4 DMG Sonic Wolf 3 Sonic Wolfbane Spear. Your cloak will also be upgraded to the Cloak of the Dar Khura Journeyman AC 7 Skill Mod Brewing +3% STA +2 WIS +3 AGI +1 HP +10.

Hmmm... So everyone eventually has to make 5 of their class's component for the sonic wolf bane quest because you have to trade with the other 4 classes right?

I'm still in the low levels but I'm interested in getting my skills up. What type of weapon is the spear? 2HB? Piercing?

And I will need the brewing skill to make the shaman component, right? No other trade skills?

just wondering.

Thanks for reading this far into my post.

I have completed the portion of the quest where you collect four wolf paws and combine them in the container given by Jaima Seyel. I was then given a note and a ceremonial strainer. The note is to be delivered to Amat luziq in the Library of Spiritual and Natural Studies who will instruct me further. However, I have no idea which zone the library is in. I went to the library in Shadow Haven, but there is no such NPC there. Anyone know where this library and NPC are located?

It is in Shar Vahl, as you face the palace steps he's in the building to your right. He will send you to another NPC who is located in a building on the opposite side.

Thanks for the info Catballou. Amat luziq was indeed in the Library to the right of the palace. I gave him the note and he gave me a voucher and sent me to Qua, who is in the Library to the right of the palace steps. I was told to purchase the books on Sonic Wolf Lore from Qua, but these books are 5+ platinum each and there are three of them. I did not purchase the books, but completed the final step in this series, which involves giving the voucher (from Amat luziq) to Arrin Murij who gives you a staff needed for completion of your weapon (he is in a bldg just NE of the arena). Now I just need to earn some coin to purchase the books to obtain the recipe to make the weapon. I add more once I complete this step.

Apprentice Cloak
# Jan 07 2002 at 1:01 PM Rating: Excellent
I just wanted to post what I know about obtaining the Apprentice cloak. After recieving the recruit cloak it is taken to Fhara Cawfeet as stated. She is in the NW corner of town in a room full of sick people, accross from the two forges outside. The cloak is given to her and she gives a black jar to fill with tonics made from 2 muck covered hearts brewed with water.

The hearts are fairly easy to find in the Paludal Caverns off muck diggers or similarly looking but more powerful creatures like grime tunnelers. The hearts can also be found on stoneclaw diggers in the tunnels leading to Paludal from Shadeweaver's Thicket but don't seem to be as common of a drop. My brewing was only around 40 when I made the tonics, but I failed about half the time, too.

After giving the full jar back to Fharra she says to speak to Mydi Darjik who can be found in the building just west of the bank. Mydi will improve the hopperhide shield if some ingredients are gathered for her. First a gray liquid must be brewed from a dulfis mushroom and water. The shrooms are found on the Shadeweaver's side of Paludal. They spawn on the ground and look like tiny blue capped mushrooms. Also, they usually spawn within clumps of the decorative scenery mushrooms so they can be hard to spot.

To improve the shield the gray liquid is first brewed with the cloth givin by Mydi to make a steaming cloth. That in turn is brewed with the shield and a tincture(also given by Mydi) to give a 9ac +5 Sv vs Poison shield.

That shield is then given back to Mydi and now she wants a bag full of eight wetfang eyes. The best place I've found to hunt these is in the large lake in Paludal next to the Recondite bandit camps. They weren't too hard at 14 with enduring breath, and they almost always dropped 2 eyes each. I think I only had to kill five of them. So then, give Mydi the bag full of eyes and she gives in return her seal.

The seal, buckler, and recruits cloak are then given to Fehril who will then give the apprentice cloak (I forget the stats, but something like 6ac +2str +2wis +2%brewing). Fehril then says to talk to Jaima Seyel who is in the same room. She just wants to see the apprentice cloak and then will give the quest to fill a bag with four wolf paws from the wolves in Hollowshade Moor.

That is as far as I have gotten at level 15, but I'll try to post again if I learn more.

# Apr 04 2002 at 2:57 PM Rating: Good
Please please PLEASE be careful what you post about the quests. It states in your first paragraph to give the CLOAK to Pharra Cawfeet. You DO NOT give the cloak to her. You give her your BUCKLER. I gave the cloak and she took it without somuch as a bat of an eyelash. I had to petition 3 times with no luck and ended up talking a friend into making a mule for me to restart the quest all over again...so PLEASE!!! Reread what you post because others are going to follow the directions you are giving them.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 05 2002 at 8:34 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok, once you get the Ayyad quest, all you have to turn in to Fehril is the seal. You don't need anything and he'll give you the cloak, and the buckler as well as the spell.

According to http://www.eqtraders.com , the potterry wheel portion of this trivs at about 41. You may want to do some simple pottery, like skewers or small containers, to get your pottery up, or spend some of your practice points, to reduce the chance of failure. Or just pray and hope you'll get lucky. I succeeded on my third try with no previous pottery skill (my attempts brought my pottery up to 3). As for firing it, if you succeeded in the pottery wheel, it's very unlikely to fail in the kiln, as firing always requires much lower skill. Use a plain (not quality or high quality) firing sheet.

Well, I have spent hours upon hours trying to get the crap for this quest. After four hours of no xp just getting biles for the pottery part, I finally got everything made. I go to turn it in and you know what?
Spiritist Fehril ate everything without saying a word, and without giving me anything back at all.
I petitioned, but you all can guess the answer I got from a gm. Nothing, no gms on and I had to log.
Now as far as I know there is no way for me to complete this freaking quest with a character that I have put a lot of time into already because there is no way I can get back the Cloak.
Anyone have any ideas on what to do?
RE: VI screwed up
# Feb 24 2002 at 7:32 AM Rating: Decent
I am not going to comment on whether or not there is always a GM/Guide on. I have done all the class quests and am almost done collecting all the compponents for each class to make there part in the wolf bane weapon. NONE of the quests are broken to this point but I will tell you I screwed up as well on one class pretty far in and afer reading my notes I realized there was no break in the chain for me to re-start from. This is not so with all the classes.. but I concluded I needed a newbie letter to start over.... so I petitioned got into an argument with a guide and finally asked to escalate to GM... no GM on got GM's email addres and emailed the entire conversation (eq log on). The GM took 2 weeks to respond offered to give me back the item(s) that were unreplaceable that I admitted to ******** up without making me redo everything. By this time of course I had read about multiquesting and had a friend make a mule to help me get back my first cloak to start over. So in short if you need to start over DON'T delete your char (what a waste of time from working on your skills and plat, at the very least) find a friend to help you multi-quest your first cloak. Once you find a willing helper it should take under 10 minutes to get you back on your way. Or you could email a GM and wait 2 weeks :) good luck all,at this time I am finishing the quests just to be able to say I did it, I have read the wolf bane weapons aren't worth the trouble.

Yep, I'll second that, you may have done something wrong... I did this quest and thought I turned everything in, and started getting upset and turned a few other things I wasn't supposed to in. Then I got my head out of my butt and realized I hadn't turned in the hopperhide treatment which then TADA, got everything I was supposed to back and only thing lost was the acrylia slate, that I shouldnt have given in the first place.
Anyway, since this quest is working for most people, I would check my own efforts before I jumped down VI's throat...

There is always a GM on. But the who all GM command might say there's not; that's because GMs oftem make themselves anonymous to stay out of the /who listings. So petition anyway. They might not help you if you petition, but if you don't petition, they DEFINTIELY won't. There might have been a possible bug with the quest. Then again, it may have been your own fault, becuase you turned in the wrong items or gave them to the wrong NPC. I've done this quest, and know for a fact it works if you turn in the correct 4 items to Spiritist Fheril: Ayyad's Seal, the hopperhide buckler, the buckler treatment, and your Initiate's Cloak. Since you didn't petition at the time, the only way you'll get help now is if you saved the log, that will show whether it eas a bug or your own error. Hope you saved the log... I do believe if you hal the registrar, there is a way to repeat the Initate's Cloak quest, check it out. Make sure to bring your acrylia slate with you, but don't turn it in unless it's asked for.

I have finished the quest up to brewing the tonics to give to Fharra Cawfoot and she gave me a tincture to treat my buckler with and sent me to see Mydi Darjik who is a bldg around the back of the bank in Shar Vahl. Mydi told me to go get dulfis mushrooms from paludal caverns to make a murky grey liquid and gave me a cloth. I'm supposed to brew cloth and murkey grey liquid to make a steaming cloth which I then wrap around the buckler with the tincture. So far I havnt found the dulfis mushrooms but have heard they are a pick up item off the ground in Paludal that looks like a bag. Would appreciate any help with possible locations for spawns of this item. Also does anyone know how I am to wrap the steaming cloth and tincture around the buckler? Would appreciate any help as I can go no further until I find these stupid mushrooms hehe.
RE: dulfis mushrooms
# Jan 02 2002 at 11:05 AM Rating: Decent
The mushrooms spawn in the mushroom clumps and they look like the blue capped from the pit in the city. What you'll need to do is put one of these mushrooms and water into a brew barrel till you get the liquid. And after you combine it with the cloth the cloth then becomes a container which you put the buckler and the tincture in.

Anyone knows what comes next after getting your recruit cloak. The NPC next to the stairs in the Shaman guild master room (i forgot her name) asked me to show her my apprentice cloak but all i got is my recruit cloak. Fehril didn't give me any one else to go see or not even a hit as to what to do next. Has anyone been able to follow up on the Shaman quests? If you read the quest post above, you'll see that the quest that Fehril sends you on will eventually lead to your recruit cloak (Cloak of the Dar Khura Recruit). You have to get the hairless hides of rockhopper brew some sweetwater, and then to assist Ayyad. After all this, you will end up with the cloak that you seek. I'm not sure why these other guys are talking about Ffarra Cawfeet. She doesn't have anything to do with this quest.

I was really frustrated the first time I started this quest. By happenstance, the first xakra larva I killed dropped Xakra Blood (same graphic as Bile). So I just ignored that graphic for oh, maybe 8 drops further along. *Sigh.* The bile is much more common than the blood

If you want to continue Ayyad's pottery quest (it is optional, but will lead to a weight-reducing jar), save up all the bile AND blood you come across. You will need it eventually.

Fharra Cawfeet can be found in the north section of town, in the residential area. She is tending some sick Vah Shir and asks you to brew some soothing potions for her. You will need to collect Muck Digger Hearts from Paludal Caverns, and you will need a brewing skill of around 80-80. The potions trivial at around skill 65, but the next step will require more skill. I would recommend about level 9-10 before starting on the diggers.

You will also need eight Wetfang Eyes, from the Wetfang Fish in Paludal Caverns. These fish are around level 11-14 and can be fairly challenging. Enduring Breath will help tons on killing them, so level 14 is a good age to attempt them. You can fish for scales while meditating up from each fight. If you are still struggling with brewing, you can use the fresh fish to brew fish wine, which trivials near 90.

Or do I need to put more than one potion in the jar that she gave me and give it back to her? Im having fun on these quests!

Though i'm sure the nodrop paws from wolf pups were intended for the quest, the droppable paws from sonic wolves also work. So just put out an OOC in zone and ask anyone hunting wolves to pick these up for you, fairly common drop.

I finished this quest at level 7,
After the Hardship I endured Let me make a few recommendations.
1. Train some points into brewing and maybe brew something else before trying to brew the sweetwater. (not trivial at 20).
2. Get your pottery upto about 40 by making Bowls, bowl sketch+small block clay+flask of water, don't bother firing them(not worth it).
You will increase in pottery skill on almost every attempt.
Trust me on this... Xakra Bile is very uncommon drop and you need it for both the brewing and the pottery.

I submitted the quest for Kitakata, who finished the quest at level 5, and I agree, Xakra Bile is a pain to get. Get your brewing into the 20's or higher (Kitakata's was low 30's, and it still wasn't trivial). And the Grey Jar is confirmed to be trivial at 41, so if you don't want to spend extra time hunting the Xakra worms in the pit after failures, get your pottery up to there or higher.

Fortunately, Shar Val has everything you need to raise these trade skills early on, so you don't have to travel to do it.

I was a little disappointed that a spell was the reward, instead of a weapon, like the other classes get (most get a cloak, shield, and a weapon/instrument), but it was fun to do nonetheless.
