This is the OLD version of the Grimling War quest series which is no longer available on live servers.

This is one of 4 or 5 quests which results in a key for entry into the castle area of Acrylia Caverns. It is designed for a group of about 10 Level 40 players.

You say, 'Hail, Scout Danarin'

Scout Danarin says 'Hello Illia, welcome to the front lines of our war against the bastard grimlings. As I'm sure you know, we Vah Shir shun violence, but with this enemy there is no other way. Let me know if you'd like to see some action.'

You say, 'I would like to see some action.'

Scout Danarin smiles, 'I can escort you to a camp rich with enemies. With my help you can take possession of their camp. They'll try desperately to reclaim their lost territory and, if we're lucky, an officer will show up. You'll want to bring about ten soldiers as powerful as me. When you're all here and ready for battle, give me a marbled acrylia sphere.'

The sphere can be bought from Shopkeeper Chirrin in one of the huts in the Val Shir outpost for 72p. Handing Scout Danarin the sphere will have him respawn with weapons, and lead you to the camp.

Scout Danarin says 'May the spirits guide us Bobbybick. Now summon your friends and all the courage you possess, this won't be easy.'

Follow Scout Danarin across the bridge towards the grimling camp.

Scout Danarin says 'As we approach the camp it's important that we remain silent. I'm sure you're aware of the advantages we gain with the element of surprise.'

Continue westward, following the Scout to the camp he chooses at random.

Scout Danarin says 'Here we are, now half of you stay here with me and the other half quietly swing around to the ledge south of the camp. Make your final preparations and wait for my command. It is vitally important that I stay alive, the camp will fall to the grimlings if I am slain. Fight well friends.'

Scout Danarin shouts 'For the honor of the Vah Shir, Attack!'

You must keep Scout Danarin alive in order to complete the quest. After the initial attack, you'll need to continually fight off waves of grimlings before the Grimling Officer will eventually appear. Be warned that the Grimling Officer is stronger than the others and cannot be stunned, mesmerized or the like.

NOTE: The "a grimling officer" appears to be completely random as to how long he will take to spawn. He will eventually pop inside one of the waves of grimlings that charge the camp but we saw it take anywhere from 2 to 40 waves.

Kill the grimling officer and loot "Grimling Officer's Tooth" from him, hand this in to Scout Danarin to finish the assault.

Scout Danarin says 'Congratulations Bobbybick, this medal signifies that you have successfully completed a raid on this encampment. Continue conducting missions like this and we're certain to prevail over the enemy. Leave now, as this place will fall again into the hands of the enemy. May the spirits grant you good fortune!'

He gives you the "Silver Lined Copper Medal of War" and walks back to the Vah Shir base camp.

and is part of the beastlord epic -- at lease beastlords have to do one of the raids to do their epic. He says "greetings Wyveri, are you [here to help]? You've no doubt heard of the issues with the Grimlings throughout the forest. I fear we may not be able to push them back enough this time to keep our people safe from the dastardly deeds of those vile things. Reports have come in that they may be trying to come at us from the North. While it wouldn't be unheard of, such a move might prove to be a decoy for oth4er attacks coming from the West.

Wyveri says, I am here to help.

Scout danarin says I'm glad to hear it. From our reports they have a rather small group of soldiers north of here, comprising of two encampments not far from each other. We must begin pushing the Grimlings back to their mines so they cannot continue to have a stronghold in the area. for now, you must gather a group of soldiers to venture with you to help us clear one of the camps out. When you are [ready to go]inform me of such and i will lead you to the camp where you can make preparations for battle.

I will let you know what i find out when i take the next step.

after the first round he leaves but you continue to do the rounds every 3 minutes until the boss spawns-- all of these raids are still available, just not needed for the key but to spawn the bosses needed for the beastlord epic.

This quest is also no longer available. Prior to the revamp of Acrylia Caverns in 2003, this was part of a series of quests which led towards eventually obtaining the key to Inner Acrylia. As the key no longer exists, neither do the quests to obtain it.

Just completed today, was exact same as Husman's raid, read my write up under that quest.

Salient Points: Easily doable by solo 57 BST, was as easy as Husman's though startin level listed as higher. Copper Medal of War dropped off of last mob (Arcanist Ukigit) along with no drop Staff of the Horde, Desecrated Bracer (sic)and Grimling Officer Toes. No other mobs dropped Copper Medal

I just this quest.. not sure if I am finished yet, but the text at the top is correct. A few notes.. first I am a 60 Bard and this was cake. 2nd, you can't target the casters on the hill untill you kill all the melee. I did find some melee on the hill mixed in with the casters. The casters spawned for me twice. The office this time dropped the copper medal, officer toes, short sword, dagger, and vanbraces. I just wished I would have parked a low level alt near by. Now trying to figure out if there is more, or if this scout just triggers this one quest now.
FYI

Having tried to start Hussman's Raid unsuccesfully I contacted my local friendly GM and was informed that all the 'Grimling wars' now no longer work the only way for a Beastlord to gain his copper medal of war is by talking to someone out at the camp in front of the mountains. This presumably triggers a quest that results in the medal needed for the BST epic. I hailed everyone in the camp and managed to start a quest to pick up shards from inside AC, not really an option as before a 55 BST could solo this first part of the epic and now you require a full group to get anywhere inside AC. I got my group together and we pushed our way through AC, the shard I needed to collect 6 of only dropped once in the zone. Gave up after 4 hours of wading knee deep through adds and decided that the epic just isn't worth my time. Good luck to anyone even thinking about starting their BST epic since the patch. So in summary: The zone will never reset the camps will always be held by thugs and bandits. No grimlings will spawn for the mini raids.

fYi the medal is recieved by hailing a scout or vetran. follow the text or just say ready to go if you are. then follow the scout or vetran to a camp. read the text carefully so you know what your doing. eventually a named will spawn and might drop the medal.

This sword drops from the named sk at the 7th camp. Hail Captain Necil and tell him "I am ready to go". He will pick one of three quests. 6th 7th or 8th mini war quests.

Camp nearest AC (acrylia caverns) with a platform is where the battle takes place.

Peeps on the ledge arnt targetable till everything on the ground is killed.

Then everything respawns and the tower is attackable. With this respawn a NAMED SK pops.
He is untargatable the 1st round. Kill all others, and try to stay out of aggro range cause he will summon you.

After you kill all the other gremlings, the full camp spawns again. This time the named is targetable. KILL!!!...

Seems to drop the Sword as common.

Hope this helps. If you have questions and On Mith Marr ask me.

Is there a way to get the grimlings back in control of the zone, or do you have to wait for a patch to reset the zone? Or is it on a timer?

Does anyone know how long it takes for the quest to reset itself? I went into grimling several times and different times several hours apart, but the quest was done already. I don't know if it was just done or not, but I've not been able to trigger it because they were. Any info would be most appreciated. Thanks

let me see if i understand this correctly, i'm considering tryin' this. 1)trigger the quest, 2) follow NPC to camp and clear it (keeping NPC alive), 3) fend off multiple waves of attackers, 4) kill Officer...loot what he drops and turn it into Scout to get the reward items?
all help appreciated

That is the general ideal of it. There are 3 raids in this part of the quest(s), first and second raids are fairly easy since only 4 to 6 Grimlings are in each wave, the last one should be done with a minimum of 4 characters, (we did it with 4 45+ beastlords and had a lot of fun), not that the Grimlings are a higher level just a lot more of them. Main objective is to keep the Scout alive, so when the Grimlings start coming, just get the aggroes from the Scout as quickly as possible, and then start worrying about killing them. We tried and found out that we weren't able to buff or heal the Scout, and for some strange reason, couldn't target the Scout and use assist. Looting the officer and handing in the item asked for (think it is some kind of body part) ends the raid.
Hope this helps a little

I thought i read a while back in a patch message that they fixed the bugs but i might have been smoking something good in my pipe too. Anyone know if these quests have been fixed?

They were working when I was helping a fellow Beastlord with his epic. Another group was doing Danarin's raid, although they were not having much luck with keeping Danarin (or themselves) alive. This was in early Jan.

My guild did this last night, with the following: 50+ cleric, 50+ ench, 50+ dru, mid40 rogue, low40 War, 39 shammie, high 30's druid, 32 bard, low 30's ranger. Realize they go after npc by default.

My recommendations: if you have the meat, or enough high levels, med around the guard b/w spawns, sometimes the grimlings will aggro you, as a druid with PoN & C1 or 2 on, i was fine toeing up with one of their caster classes. Like others have said, the guard cant be healed, and you can, so dont be afraid to get aggro if you see any on him. We had a smart war (thank god), so once he had aggro off npc, he'd come pick up your add if it was still around. even with our group, second raid the guard was down to 1 bubble (and it took 30 minutes after that before the officer spawned).

My druid's wind/stun spell seemed to work ridiculously well on the casters, and was nice to alternate those with combust, usually at cost of 1 bub health and 35-40% of my mana. As far as melee npc's, snare and root if they came my way. Just don't be an *** like me and root one too close to your NPC guard.

You're medding casters (if on fringes of camp, another reason to just med in the middle and take one for the team) will probably pick up an occasional wandering sonic wolfling or owlbear. So if you're a melee, think about facing the casters once you've picked up agro from the grimlings. Our rogue took care of this while our tank held aggro from grimlings.

Both officers dropped boo collars i beleive. First raid time was under 5 miutes, second was closer to 35-40 id say. Be ready to clear camp upon leaders word, after turn in, the whole camp will respawn full, and nothing good can come of it. You need to turn in {whatever the hell the officer drops} to the scout, and get your {thingit}, and run to merchants, bingo, no deaths. :)

P.S. I Remind you to always snare your bard(s), because it just really pisses them off.

Hmm sounds like I am going to be hard at work on this one, maybe it'll prove a tough enough quest to get my guild synchronized for actually tough raids... Sounds like fun either way

My 52 Druid , a 52 Necro and a 54 Necro took camp with ease but it took 20 waves for him to pop and he dropped 2 mangled fur bracelets (ac 3 wis int 4) along with dirk and tooth but scout died before i could get him the tooth. Tried starting raid over and then give him tooth he wouldn't take it. No Rent so have to do raid over.

If this happens, restart the quest and wait for Danarin to get to his spot in the grimling camp. Once he is there, you can turn it in for your medallion.

No wonder you all are getting bored, bringing 40's and 50's on this raid. The scout is L28 and says to bring 10 people of his level i.e. 10 x L30ish Why is this listed as L40 and then why are the items it yields listed as L45 and L50?

we did this quest with a group of 6 41 mage fazyen and pet 42 pally torad 42 chanter sondilla 46 druid kelvena 43 wizzie heisenberg 41 bst katzeye and pet there were waves of 4 evry 1 to 5 mins for hours the pally camped the mage had to gate because of scout aggro and the final wave with the officer was fought by the rest of us with the chanter dieing
the waves afterwards made it hard to turn in cause the scout was aggroed. the village respawned within a min or two of turnin makeing the situation worse. This coulda been done by a weaker group the entire time we had no troubles what so ever except for the last battle with the officer and that was more from sheer boredom than anything

Grimlings of course drop their usual collection of noobish stuff... the etched acrylia runes and the sub-fine steel weapons. Officer in this case dropped one piece even useful to some of the 50+ we had in attendance:

Carved Bone Nose Spike
EAR FACE
MAGIC LORE
AC4 mana35 hp35 disease5
ALL/ALL

Also dropped his tooth, a no-drop "grimling plans pt. 2," a no-drop 10/32 h2h claw, and

Mangy Fur Bracer
MAGIC ITEM
AC4 wis4 int4 mana15
ALL/ALL

Looks black when equipped.

We had 6 54+ at the camp just to see what it was all about and we were terribly bored most of the time. Some of the SK-class grimlings will sneak an HT or a nuke off against the Scout though, which can give you a bit of excitement. It's really FG callers junior. This quest is markedly easier than the Derrin scout war which has a muuuch shorter interval between waves.

Much like the quest before this one (the lower level equivalent) the officer is completely random.

There is no set number of waves after which he shows up. You could be there for 10 minutes. You could be there for 3 hours. :(

I was able to keep the scout alive solo (have to move fast though).

I was very tempted to shell out the money for an marbled acrylia sphere the other day, knowing I'd get my *** kicked by the resulting onslaught. I really wanted to see a "dynamic" quest and I still might trigger it with my 30 Shaman just to watch...death, yeah, but who cares?
