(This is a long quest with a lot of TEMPORARY items involved to begin with...but it's a very fun quest with a really cool Roleplaying element...the Whisperlings! Who knows what other quests will get us "closer" to them, and be able to use their abilities.)

Tiamon Aroo is the Tailoring Merchant in the Building near the bard's camp fire in Shadeweaver's Thicket.

    You say, 'Hail, Tiamon Aroo'

Tiamon Aroo says 'Greetings _____, watch where you step for the [needle clawed hoppers] are just about everywhere!

You say, 'what needle clawed hoppers?'

Tiamon Aroo says 'Those wretched vermin swarm to our city and trade routes in search of the refuse left by careless travelers who pass through these parts. They are just about useless and their stench brings bile to my throat. I would have set out to poison the whole lot of them if it was not for their unique [claws].

    You say, 'what claws?'

Tiamon Aroo says 'The claws of the hoppers act as a [spirit anchor]. They are specialized in tearing into the fiber of the shadow beings that roam the thicket. I find these claws useful in [binding] the silk fashioned by the [shadeweavers].

    You say, 'what spirit anchor?'

Tiamon Aroo says 'A spirit can only materialize within our realm by binding themselves to an object that is a spirit anchor. Some bones and stones have such properties. A spirit anchor can also do the most damage to the material form of such spirits when used as a weapon. I use the claws of the hoppers as a sewing needle of sorts to [bind the silk] made by the [shadeweavers]. A standard sewing needle would only pass through the substance of the silk. The hopper claws can pierce through their ethereal fabric effectively.

(The previous part of this quest doesn't need to be done, but rather gives insight into what Groo McManus means by the "Spirit Anchor")

Groo McManus is in the White Building on the left following the road out of Shar Vahl into Shadeweavers Thicket. He's a Barbarian.
    You say, 'Hail, Groo McManus'

Groo McManus says 'Greetings adventure seeker. I have come from afar to study this strange thicket. The spirits are strong within this region, but they are secretive as well. I am willing to impart my wisdom to those who will aid me in my exploration. Are you [interested?]

    You say, 'I am interested'

Groo McManus says 'Very well then! Let us begin. First you must attune yourself with the nature of spirits. For this you must learn to find a spiritual anchor. Find such a thing within the crater that surrounds Shar Vahl and return it to me. Then we may continue. I cannot tell you more, but there is a Vah Shir who has the knowledge that you seek. Seek him out in this thicket to learn what you can.

Give GrooMcManus the "A Needle Thin Claw"

Groo McManus says 'Excellent! You have done well. I can sense that you are in tune with the spirits around you. Take this, for you will need it in your next task. When you are [ready] for your next lesson let me know.

    You gain experience!!

    You say, 'I am ready'

Groo McManus says 'You have learned a fraction of the nature of the spirit. To exist within our realm they must become a part of our realm by binding themselves within material. The hoplings claws have evolved to tear spirits from their material anchors. A disrupted anchor will normally send a spirit to the planes in which they belong, but sometimes the spirit becomes lost. This has happened within the crater that surrounds Shar Vahl. We must do what we can to [help] the lost spirit. The lost spirit had found the nearest anchor to take refuge in when its own anchor was destroyed. The spirit now lies trapped within the very claws of the hopling that had tried to destroy it. Will you help?

Groo McManus says 'Near the south bridge of Shar Vahl city, a mysterious rock formation hangs precariously within the crater. When you have arrived, you stand beneath the rock and call to the wind, speak the word 'Lumanes', be sure to clear all thoughts from your mind when doing so. If we are not too late, a kindred spirit will speak with you. Take your discoveries to my friend Shavra in the crater, she will know what to do.

(Again, doesn't need to be done, but who can say no to free experience?)

    Your Location is -852.56, 890.03, -343.91
You say, 'Hail, Dar Khura Shavra'

Dar Khura Shavra says 'Lo there wanderer. Something is amiss within the region, have you not felt it? I sense a [whisperling] nearby.

    You say, 'what whisperling?'

Dar Khura Shavra says 'A whisperling, who brings us dreams, you cannot see them. They do no harm, but I sense anger in them. They have made an enemy. If you are willing to aid us in our research, please seek Groo McManus in the shadeweavers thicket, he has some insight on these whisperlings.

The Whisperling can be called (not found, but called) under the glowing rock formation NEG580, POS560
    Sit and say "Lumanes"

    You say, 'Lumanes'

a whisperling speaks softly, 'Lumanes _____, Our cousin, a spirit of frost, is trapped. We may not intervene. Only one of flesh may aid us. Are you one [able to help]? '

You say, 'I am able to help'

a whisperling speaks softly, 'Then we thank you. We will lure it here. But beware, it uses our cousins strength to protect itself.'

    A frost covered hopling attacks

He has about 30 Hitpoints, hits for 1 damage 99% of the time, Burst of Flames (not often) for 4 damage
But, I couldn't do much more than 1 damage to him 90% of the time, and did maybe 3 and 6 the other 2 times I did do more than 1 damage. In other words, VERY easy fight.

You have slain a frost covered hopling!
    You gain experience!!
--You have looted a A Frosted Claw.--
    (A Frosted Claw - NO TRADE/TEMPORARY - Primary Piercing - DMG:2 DLY:25 SV COLD: +1)
    TEMPORARY!

(Note: The frost covered hopling can be summoned any time by saying "Lumanes" in that spot! It's basically a newbie Monster Generator! I got experience at 4, and with the easy fight, he can be killed over and over for experience. Hopefully Verant doesn't realize this and change it -=| )

Go back to Shavra (who is very close) and give her the "A Frosted Claw"

Dar Khura Shavra says 'Oh _____! This is a whisperling, and she is beautiful! You must find a way to free her of this anchor. Take her to Ragnar, he may know what to do. Let me put her in this bag to keep her safe for now.

Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl has been adjusted by 1.
    You gain experience!!

You get a "Frosted Bag" from her. It's a 0.0 NO TRADE object

Spiritist Ragnar is in the Var Shal Alchemy Shop west of the Bank

    You say, 'Hail, Spiritist Ragnar'

Spiritist Ragnar says 'Well hello... How may I help you?

Give the Frost Bag to Spirit Ragnar

Spiritist Ragnar says 'Eh? What have we here?'' Ragnar examines the frosted claw carefully. He closes his eyes and begins to chant while holding the claw cupped between his hands. As he opens his eyes he nods at you and begins to speak. ''You have done well to bring her here _____. This is a whisperling, her name is Siver. She is very young, so it is hard for me to understand her. From what I gather, she has an important task to fulfill, but I am still unsure what that task may be. Please take her with you for now, I think that is her wish. Perhaps Grawleh will be able to assist us further, and maybe even find a more suitable anchor for her. I think it would be wise to show her to him.

    You gain experience!!
You also get Claw of Frost.

    (Claw of Frost - NO TRADE/TEMPORARY - Primary Piercing - DMG:3 DLY:25 SV COLD: +1)
    TEMPORARY!

Elder Spiritist Grawleh examines the contents of the bag carefully. This is no ordinary spirit _____. It is a whisperling, a bringer of dreams. You are quite lucky, I think she will go with you. She will be able to protect you from cold magic. If you need more protection you can call on her to help you endure the cold. This is how the Dar Khura weave their spells, we ask the spirits for their aid. This scroll will show you how to call on her for her protection. You will also need to construct her a more suitable spirit anchor. This claw will not contain her much longer. Please hurry to Ragnar with the claw and a fresh [bloodling carapace]. It may buy us some time before she fades away.

    You gain experience!!
    He gives back "Siver's Claw"
    (Siver's Claw - NO TRADE/TEMPORARY - Primary Piercing - DMG:3 DLY:23 DEX:+1 SV COLD: +1)
    TEMPORARY!

You may also receive a minor spell.

    You say, 'what bloodling Carapace?'
(I may have done something wrong like cancelled the conversation, because he didn't answer about the carapaces, but they drop from "a Cht`Thk bloodling" in Shadeweaver's Thicket newbie area...you may want to collect 8 in total, you'll need 7 more later. You've been warned.)

Bring Spiritist Ragnar a "Bloodling Carapace" and the Claw of Frost.

Spiritist Ragnar says 'Well done _____, I hope it isnt too late.'' Ragnar begins to chant over the carapace and the claw, holding each in opposite hands. A soft light travels from the claw to the carapace as the claw turns to dust. Ragnar opens his eyes and begins to speak, ''It has worked, but all we have done is buy ourselves more time. While you were away, I have been speaking to Master Barkhem. He has a shield frame that can support these carapaces. You will need to craft such a shield by including this carapace and into the frame along with enough to fill each slot. You are doing quite well young _____, Siver has grown a little stronger. You can make use of her innate dexterity by weaving this spell.''

Spiritist Ragnar hands _____ a scroll before he continues to speak. ''When you have completed the construction of the shield, return it to me and I will strengthen the anchor.''

Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl got better.
    You gain experience!!

He gives you a Strengthen Scroll (bug?) and a "Frosted Carapace".
It's only a 0.0 NO TRADE item! You can actually pause at this part of the quest! (but why would you want to?)

Master Barkhem is in the Armory to the North of the Pool in front of the Palace
    (I believe his Loc is "202.18, -167.21, -187.62")

Master Barkhem tells you, 'That'll be 3 gold 2 silver 4 copper for the Carapace Shield Frame'.

Buy the Carapace Shield Frame (this quest makes me wonder what else can be put in this frame)

Now head to Shadeweavers and get ready for a long time of running around and killing Cht`Thk bloodlings. The carapace is a pretty uncommon(rare?) drop. This may take over an hour.

Place the "Frosted Carapace" in the Carapace Shield Frame along with 7 Bloodling Carapaces and combine. You'll get a "Dull Frostweavers Shield!"
(Dull Frostweavers Shield - AC 3 DEX: +1 SV COLD:+3 5.0 wt SHM BST)

Ragnar said he'd make the shield stronger when you brought it back to him, so do that. Give the Dull Frostweavers Shield to Spirit Ragnar back in the Alchemy Shop.

Spiritist Ragnar says 'Nicely done _____. This anchor should be sufficient to keep Siver bound to this realm for a while. She is strong enough to blind your enemies with a bright flash of light now, all you have to do is call on her spirit. I still cannot make complete sense of her thoughts, I think she is trying to tell me of another whisperling entrapped within the crater. Keep an eye open for the whisperling Scorpialis.

(Scorpialis is a weapon from the TailFang Quest. I don't know if he's just giving you info on a seperate quest, or if he wants you to finish that too)

Spiritist Ragnar says 'In the meantime, you can seek out a shield made of Xakra. Xakra made of the ethereal fabric of the spirit realm. I know the Shak Dratha within the thicket are weavers of this rare form of shadow silk. Such a shield can help us strengthen the anchor, making it easier for Siver to aid you. It will also improve her health greatly. She has been through a lot and is in rather poor condition as it stands now.
Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl got better.
    You gain experience!!
You also gained the stronger version of the Frostweavers Shield
    (Frostweavers Shield - AC:4 DEX+1 SVCOLD+4 MAGIC NO TRADE)

(This appears to be the next part of the quest, but is still unsolved from what I hear)

Need all dialogues (these are transcriptions), current faction hits, /loc of all mobs, solution to this quest!

this quest is bugged anyway. when you turn in the dull frostweaver shield, you're supposed to recieve the spell flash of light (currently not sold in shar vahl), but instead you get beserker strength (listed on the one i got as an enc spell, which it's not). i /bugged this and talked to a gm about it, and was told it would be turned over to the testing department to look at.

i haven't found anything about the xakra shield yet, but to get scorpialis, give tailfang's tail to the guard under the south bridge. this dagger is unusable by shaman's (which is retarded). i tried giving scorpialis to all the npc's you give siver to, but they just returned it, so i don't think there's anything else you can do with it.

maybe i'll take my rogue down to the tunnels and have a chat with this shak dratha smith...

I am also trying to get the Xakra Shield. Originally I thought it was a drop off a Shak Dratha mob, but after reading your post..I don't think this is the case.

Maybe after you kill a zillion Gor Taku, you could have faction high enough to get a quest for the shield from the Shak Dratha Blacksmith? Or perhaps, one of the Shak Dratha is a merchant that sells it? Has anyone tried increasing faction with an enchanter spell like benevolence on the Shak Dratha to see if they will give quests or are merchants?

    Just my thoughts...

I have tried the getting a chanter to incress my CHA to see if that would help. but my BeastLoard is still "they look threating to you" at this moment. and I was able to get a better faction by filling the Gor Taku. but the last patch messed this up and I am having to start all over again on this faction. anyone seen anything else that rasies faction with the Shak Dratha?

ok.. I am playing a lvl 16 Beastlord and I have a few Problems with this Quest. "I have been tring for over a month now to finish it.

    here are my problem's

1st. Posted Message. "After completing Ayyads 4 seal part of the quest and gaining the basic runequill set, I have yet to figure out how to use it. I've tried every way I can think of to combine a grey jar with the runequill set and bile. I've tried the bowl, the pottery wheel and even the kiln. Always get the "cannot combine in this container" message.

I NEED HELP!! How do you etch a grey jar??

    TIA"

Problem. what does this have to do with the Frostweaver shield Quest

2nd. Posted Message. "I was reading the message posts in the bestiary here and someone says they looted a "vacuum worm hide" from a mob called "a Xakra Shah" in the Grey. It seems that many of the progressive quests for Luclin move on to bigger, badder, nastier mobs; perhaps this has something to do with it. The mob is listed as level 45-46 though. Since I don't have a character over 25th level, hands-on research is currently a little out of my league. ;-) Does any one else know of other zones with Xakra mobs in them?"

Problem. Again what does this have to do with the Frostweaver Shield Quest.

3rd. Text from Spiritist Ragnar says the following.

Seek out a Shield made of Xakra.. Hmm Made of.. dosnt this mean that they shield is not Droped by a Mob.. but instead it is Made..

I know the Shak Dratha whithin the thicket are weavers of this Rare form of Shadow Silk.

OK. so to me this means. to have the Shak Dratha Blacksmith make this Shield of Xakra but I could be worng.
but if you kill the "Gor Taku" this rases the faction with the Shak Dratha. but I still havent been able to get good enoough faction to talk to there blacksmith. "note when you kill a Gor Taku it is replaced by a Shak Dratha. and there is a Shak Dratha Blacksmith at the Forge in the Tunnel. I feel that in order to get this shield made from Xakra you need to have the Shak Dratha Blacksmith make it for you. or he tells you how to make it"

So here is my 2 Cents worth of Information on this quest.

now I know this shield dosnt Drop. playing on my Main character. I have killed over 1000 Gor Taku and no shield has ever dropped. I have killed almost everything in the Zone. and never seen a shield Drop. just Xakra Armor.. and the Misc weapons. "note the Poacher are not counted in this as there is a ingina that looks like a shield that they drop. but this is used in another quest.

at this point I am thinking about giving up on this quest. I have filed a Bug report on this Quest to make sure it was not Broken. and the answer I got was "this quest is not broken. and the Shield dosnt Drop from a Mob" now the Gm may be trying to mislead me on the "Not Drop" part of the message. but I think he is right.. the Shield dosnt drop.

so this leads me back to what I think i already know. and to what I think needs to be done

the Shield made of Xakra means you need to have good faction with the Shak Dratha in order to talk to there Blacksmith.. who will either Sell you the Shield. or give you a Quest to have the shield Made. and this is located in the Thicket. but this is my stopping point. I cannot get a good enough faction to talk to there blacksmith. and I cannot find a mob to kill that rasies this faction beside killing the Gor Taku which only gives a small faction hit. "note the Blacksmith and Forge is located in the Tunnel in Area 6 where "Warlord Gok Thok" spawns at.
6 Warlord Gok Thok also cons deep blue to a lvl 51 Mage.

Now I have talked to about 50 People who are working on this quest as well. and we are all stoped in the same spot.. trying to get this Shield made of Xakra and from when I was talking to them. none has a good enough faction with the Shak Dratha to talk to there blacksmith. and from what I can see Nobody has finished this quest. or if they have they are not Talking about it.

    Xakra anchor
    # Mar 10 2002 at 8:13 AM Rating: Default
Just a thought. The first quest a shaman does is for a buckler made of hairless rock hopper hides.
So in theory maye this is the anchor that xakra is to be attached to. Since its made of hides the needle might work. The fact that frostweaver shield is for shaman and beastlords they may have to coopperate to complete the quest. Againjust some thoughts.

    What about the bloody hopper???
    # Mar 07 2002 at 4:35 PM Rating: Default
I am not sure if it has anything to do with this, but EQ Atlas lists the "Blood Drenched Hopper" as a notable NPC and the "serrated Hopper Claw" as a unique item to the. Since you give Aroo and McManus hopper claws, what if you one of them the serrated claw? Also, McManus tells us the "first" leason about spirits and spirit anchors. What about the rest of the lessons? If we show him our spirit anchors, being the sheild and dagger, would he teach us more? I will try a few things tonight and post what I find.

    Xakra Kel Armor
    # Feb 24 2002 at 9:24 PM Rating: Default
Xakra Kel armor pieces drop off lesser shades, and can be combined with an equivalent tattered piece, and a claw needle (tiamon Aroo - in exchange for 4 needle thin claws), to make armor a bit better than tattered hopperhide. Don't believe that has anything to do with the whisperling quest, though. It seems reasonable that the shield must be acquired from the Shak Dratha, in some way, as those are kind of the instructions given... May try boosting faction with them (killing Gor Taku?), to get to neutral or better... However, as far as one or the other being good guys, there are several quests requiring you to kill Shak Dratha - two of the captains in ST seem to have a disagreement over which need to be exterminated....

I am following this quest closely as it still unsolved. Even the other web sites are at the same point that Al's is.
Just out of curiosity I have just started killing Shak Dratha to lvl up from 11th onwards. However, during my killings I have started to come across drops of "Chunk of Condensed Shadow". These have an icon the same as ore, and are stackable, and the are also NOT No Rent. I cannot find any reference to these items on ANY website. I will collect a few more and see whether they combine within the Sewing kit or Forge. I am hedging my bets that a Shakra Shield (as it has still yet to be a loot drop) is actually a "built" item using Tailoring (doubtful) or Smithing (more likely as other shield quests are smithing orientated).
I will post more shortly with findings (or not).

The condensed shadow has a know use as a substance that can be smithed into magical arrowheads. There is also condensed Fire and condensed Ice. Granted, that doesn't mean there are not other uses for it yet to be discovered. ;-)

    More Stuff to think about:

There is a quest, given by one of the Trainers in the Tents on the left side. The Captain tells you to bring him 4 Gor Taku Earthcaller Stones. If you kill GT Earthcallers, they drop "Gor Taku Heart Stones", which are not the item this guy wants. (gave him 4 - he said thanx and my stones were gone :-) These stones are dropped by GT earthcallers and GT spiritwardens.

Has somebody found an "earthcaller stone" yet?

It seems that in the northern part of the caverns there are either SD shadowweavers or GT Earthcallers wandering around - maybe one is the reverse spawn of the other?

The named GT, "Seetheker" drops a spear. Although it says "primary only" it can be equiped in ranged slot. This spear is a little "newby" - the mob has about lvl 13-15.

What language do these Gor Taku / Shak Dratha speak? What language do the lesser shades speak? Is it Erudian / Old Erudian??? ( Never played one - so I can't check it out)

In the caves are "poles" and "campfires" that can be clicked and start spinning around. Does this do anything or is it just grafix?

Nough to think about for today. Good luck, xakra-shield-searchers :-)

    About languages
    # Apr 23 2002 at 3:41 AM Rating: Default
The languages used by the Gor Taku, Shak Dratha, and the shades are un-intelligible to player characters. The way to tell is because they text is always the exact same. If you hear someone else talking in a different language the text will be jumbled, but in a different way every time. The shades say the exact same combination of latters every time you begin fighting them, and when they die. Same with the Gor Taku and Shak Dratha.

This isn't a critical point, I know, but I have mastered almost all the languages of Norrath, and I enjoy figuring out puzzles like these.

    # Feb 21 2002 at 6:12 AM Rating: Good
I have followed the diskussion so far with great interest. Altough my attempts to find a Xakra-Shield have been futile.

But I have gathered a couple of interesting facts for you to think about:

    1. There are two Types of Xakra Armor: Xakra Kel (which as we know drops from Shades) and Xakra Dat (which was confirmed to drop from Shak Dratha)

    2. The Shak Dratha "Shadeweaver" has been spottet oftenly in the Tunnels near the Loda Kai camp. When killed, he until today did not drop more then coin. There is no reportet attempt to hail/trade/interact with him yet, since noone had (enough?) faction with the Shak Dratha.

    3. When you kill one race of "little Aliens" the other race spawns in its place, meaning: If you kill the Gor Taku blacksmith, who is known to trade with you (if you have faction with them) the shak dratha blacksmith spawns. Yet it seems unclear if he will trade with you too, since there was always hide/sneak or invis or bad faction involved in the reportet tries.

    4. It is commonly believed that the whisperling quest starts with the Claw Needle action. Yet neither that Claw Needle nor any of the involved Items seemed to be of any use with the whisperling quest until now, which makes me, as a passionate RPG-Gamemaster very suspicious.

    5. It is unconfirmed, that shades drop anything else but xakra kel armor pieces. They have not yet been seen to drop Weapons or Shields.

6.1 If you assume that there is a logic and a "grand strategy" behind the Vah Shir quests, you can assume too that the Gor Taku are the "bad guys" and the shak dratha are the "good guys". To get the "Blessed Championship Cloak of the Vah Shir", you gotta kill zillions of Loda Kai, therefore ruining the faction with the Gor Taku.

6.2 Many quests in Shar Vahl and Thicket are about "Xakra", "Whisperlings" and lastly "Ruining Faction with the Gor Taku". Unless there is a diabolic twist in the plot, it looks like the quest-designers wanted to lead you straight into a "bad gor-taku faction" and so opening the way to get "good shak dratha faction", since most questers wont attack somebody, they already have a good faction with. Why did they let us start with a good gor taku faction when the quests will ruin it anyway? Maybe so we can finaly befriend the shak dratha?

    7. Just because some ppl are dubious to the shak dratha, doesn't necessarily mean they will help you. Maybe you'll have to be even higher in their regard.

    8. All shields made of carapaces or the like have been named after the mobs/items they are made of. It does not seem logical to me, that a swirling shadow/condensed shadow/etc. shield would finaly be called a Xakra Shield.

    9. Regarding Scorpialis, I don't think that we'll need that dagger at that moment of the quest. Ragnar and the others mentioned it, but said nothing about bringing it or even needing it. They just say it would be out there.

Finally it will come down to that:

Is the shield dropped, or built/bought?
If it drops, it will drop from the shak dratha. If it's bought or hand-made, the knowledge or quest or merchant for it will also come from the shak dratha.

    Questions:

    1. Have Shak Dratha or Gor Taku been seen in other zones?

    2. Have any mobs been seen in other zones, which have anything to do with xakra or weaving?

    3. Has anyone seen Xakra Kel or even Xakra Dat Armor Weapons?

    4. Can anyone definetly confirm the existens of silk other then shadeling silk, namely the rumored shadow silk or has their been just a confusion in the names?

    5. I always read about about a tatterd buckler?!? Enlighten me! How can it be made?

    6. Has there been a positive contact with a Shadeweaver or the shak Dratha Smith yet and what faction did the contacter have?

    7. It was said, that Scorpialis was a dead end quest with a broken end. Did I miss something? I did the quest, got the dagger, but I didn't realise there was more to come. It seemed finished to me, but if somebody knows/suggests more, it could well be the hint we need!

I have completed the quest up to the point hat you have here and have read your posts and have also been trying to figure out what is the next step.

Ragnaar tells us we need to get an xakra shield made from the etheral material the shak dratha make.
Tiamoon aroo mentiona shadeweavers... he says the shak dratha hunt the shades in the thicket.. i have hunted the shades and found that they do drop a no rent no drop item called swirling shades.. could it be this that we need to make this etheral material with?
i just dont know what else you would combine with it. I am going to try to combine a swirling shadow with a soirit anchor using the needle tiamoon gave me... will let you all know if it works.

just another thought does the silk quest have anything to do with this quest?

ok i killed a couple lesser shades yesterday and they also drop the shadeling silks.. remembering tiamoon aroos words and those of jala i went to jala and hailed her.. she talks of making xakra armor.. when you use the loom it acts just like a sewingkit.. i couldnt combine more then 2 silks and the result was thread.. combining the thread makes bandages.. however both jala and tiamoon mention rockhopper hides as helping to hold the xakra together.. im wondering now if we need to combine a certain amount of thread with the a certain amount/kind of rockhopper hide using the needle tiamoon gave us..
    RE: idea...
    # Feb 21 2002 at 10:38 PM Rating: Default
corection jala mentions using rockhooper hides taimoon mentions using stone or bones.. stones such as those used to build the city would make a good spirit anchor.. that would be acrylia..
im soo confused... i think that to make xakra we have to somehow combine the silk with the rockhopper hide but which one and what formula works, i have tried a few different ideas but it just says i cannot combine them in this container usied both sewing kit and loom... if im right then after we have xakra it wold meake sence to combine it with acrylia using the needle from tiamoon i think.. although i dont know what the result would be.. then somehow maybe put that material into the shield frame? im kinda just rambling but i figured that maybe someone might take my thoughts and figure this out with the other thoughts on this subject....

The only thing I have seen so far is that the claw needle, along with rockhopper hide is used with the xakra armor pieces.

Make a tattered armor with the damaged hide and combine with the needle and matching Xakra armor piece to make a Shaded Armor piece (gives Sv vs magic +1 per piece and same AC as the armor)
    Another Idea
    # Feb 10 2002 at 10:30 PM Rating: Decent
There is a possibility that a Xel Xakra shield drops rarely thats no rent and needs to be combined with tattered buckler. I would imagine thats the missing piece. Also one may try using black smith to make shield from the blocks of condensed shadow.. most likely its tailered. thats just my thought.
    Hopper Invulnerable?
    # Feb 05 2002 at 2:10 AM Rating: Default
I tried this quest tonight. I got the Frost Covered Hopperling to spawn, but I couldn't attack it. Every attack I hit it with, I got back a message that the hopperling was Invulnerable. Anyone have any ideas? I had a hopper claw in my inventory and I had spoken to Timan Aroo, Groo McManus, and Dar Kura Shavra.

If you are a shaman, you can't use Scorpialis, but you do have burst of flame (if from nowhere else, then from turning in the needle thin claw). You should be able to demolish the hopper in short order with that or frost rift.

frost rift doesn't work, burst of flames does

The Frosthopper requires a magic weapon or fire spell to hit it. Try getting Scorpialis. That is the easiest magic weapon to get at low level.

Magic boots and magic gloves such as Wu's work well in killing the Frosted Hopper.
    maybe ?
    # Feb 03 2002 at 8:34 AM Rating: Default
something i picked up from another quest
Jala says 'Xakra is the mystical ethereal silk woven by the Shak
Dratha, I believe they use the mystical ethereal shadow silk woven by
the Xakra worms. Although this magical silk is quite beautiful, it is
also highly unstable if you weave them in large quantities. I have
discovered that the hides of rock hoppers manages to hold the silk
    together fairly well.

maybe this can be used for something. ie sew them toghter, and use them in the xekra kel shield frame ?

    Xakra shield and Scorpialis
    # Feb 02 2002 at 2:01 AM Rating: Default
I've been killing gor taku and shak dratha, my general philosopy being if they don't like me already, they're not safe around me, especially if they are good experience!! So I'll just keep on killing them, and watching here for more info on the shiled and on Scorpialis. Got the weapon, guess I'll hang on to it for a while. And in case anyone was wondering, getting Tailfang to pop is quite simple, just keep slaying scorpions and he will pop up right near you and attack. So just be ready and make sure you can kill him. I'll post if I find out any new info on this stuff. Good luck and happy hunting to all!!

What a kick in the sack....just to warn you if you non-twinked shamans or beastmasters wait till level 6 to kill the frosty hopper and make your nice shield. TOO LATE.....trivial at lvl 6, no frosted claw for you. (firiona vie server)

I too play on the firiona vie server. I killed this thing around level 4. There is a merchant in Shadeweavers Thicket by the firedancers that sells a decent magical hand to hand weapon for about 5 1/2 SILVER. I even used it until I finally got my claws from the beastlord quest.

Well, if you'll notice our anonymous friend mentioned at the end of this post that he plays on Firiona Vie. And of course Firiona Vie has the (formerly) Warrens loot rules in place. If the critter is green, you don't get any magic or lore loot. So if you play on Firiona Vie and the hopper is green, yes you get no claw. However, you can pay a low level to get it for you since almost nothing on Firiona Vie is nodrop.

I didn't even start the quest until my beastlord was lvl 7 and I was able to get the frostweavers shield with no problems. I have been through my logs and am positive that I was lvl 7 3 days before I started the quest (might of been 8 by then, but I'm not going to search any more).

I've only played on the Vazaelle server, so the rules can be different on the other servers.
    my ideas
    # Jan 24 2002 at 6:59 PM Rating: Default
ok i have a few ideas on how to continue but as I have no scorpialis and am still somewhat low at tailoring I must ask you guys to try them out. Here they are:

-try combining in a forge scorpialis, palocht, and frostweaver shield.(dont forget trying it with AND without flask of water)

-try combining in a forge the needle used in making shaded hopperhide armor with palocht, and frostweaver shield.

-try giving ragnar the palocht, frostweaver shield and needle, or the shield, palocht and scorpialis.

-or, try the above mentioned things i said to smith in a tailoring kit/loom and try to combine them.

Those are my ideas that no one has posted doing yet, please post on whether they work or not as i got the shield.
    smithing?
    # Jan 24 2002 at 5:02 PM Rating: Default
Since no one had ever heard of "weaving" a shield, could it be possible that the condensed shadow is used to smith one? I know there is a Shak Dratha smith in the tunnels and a forge as well, maybe these guys also have something to do with the quest?
    Just maybe
    # Jan 24 2002 at 9:16 AM Rating: Decent
I have a idea but it may take a while to do. This seems to be close to every other quest for the vah shir race is to work together with other clases. Just like the claws need to be done. Now if you take this in mind the you would need a warriors help if he was to do his part correctly or just a good smith. From what I have read you can make some shadow disk's (trivial >90) form swirling shadow drops. if you could make 8 swirling shadow disk and combine them in a shield frame you could get a xarka shield. Just posible. maybe the disk are like sheet metal and need to make one from the mold.

Other than that with the recent patch it says shak draka should now be droping shak draka hearts. Maybe that is something may something else. The only other option I can think is to get good faction with the shak dratha and hand a shak dratha shadeweaver some silk threads and he makes shadow silk and then you make the shield from shadow silk. Don't know would be cool though.

Well thoughs are my thoughts. I will get back into my beastlord again and see what I can do. I'm only a lvl 10 right now but hey got my first char to lvl 30 woohoo. Till then cya and keep trying should be worth the effort.
    Re.: Chunk of Condensed Shadow
    # Jan 24 2002 at 3:44 AM Rating: Default
    Hi.

Yes, I've looted a Chunk of Condensed Shadow from a Shak Dratha Seeker.

According to http://www.eqtraders.com/secrets/recipes_luclin.htm#smith it's used to make condensed shadow arrowheads...

chunk of condensed shadow, flask of water, file = yield 2 magic arrowheads, trivial at 135

hope this was what you asked for...
