Arbogast and Miller spawn in the Inn near the bank on level 1 of Katta.

    You say, 'Hail, Arbogast'

Arbogast says 'Hello there ______, do you come seeking the truth?'

You say, 'I seek the truth.'

Arbogast says 'The truth is a precarious thing, twisted and torn by those that would deceive for their own nefarious purposes. That is why there are people like me to guide the ignorant masses that know no better than to believe that which they are told.'

Miller says 'Yeah, you tell em Arbogast! I bet this one doesn't even know what's going on right under his nose in this here city. Like for example, you probably don't even know the truth about about his importantness Phenic Dionicas do you?'

You say, 'Who is Phenic Dionicas?'

Arbogast says 'He that battles what he truly is only truly battles himself. Phenic Dionicas for years has made quite a show of his war on the Vampyres of Tenebrous. This misdirection of truth serves only to keep people from discovering that he himself is a foul demon of the night. Miller and I, for our singular vision of that which is true, are not well liked in this city and so cannot obtain proof for your disbelieving eyes.'

    You say, 'What proof?'

Arbogast says 'You wish to see the truth for yourself? That is good, you will be taking your first step down a winding road to the only fulfillment this existence has to offer: enlightenment. Take this flask of water, I have blessed it such that it will singe the skin of the unholy. Go to Phenic Dionicas and give it to him, then you will see... you will see.'

Miller says 'Yeah, splash it right in his unliving face!'

You get "Arbogast's Holy Water." Go to Phenic in the main government building, 2nd floor, left going up the steps, and give him the water.

Phenic Dionicas looks at you and smiles despite the fact that you have splashed water all over him - he does not appear to be burning at all. 'Oh, excuse me. You seem to have spilled your water, here have some of mine my friend. Good day to you, ______,' he says.

You get "Phenic's Water." Return to Arbogast and give it to him.

Arbogast says 'He simply gave this to you? Cunning indeed for him to cover his weakness so thoroughly - he must have powerful protective enchantments in place, no doubt put in place by his good friend and associate, Tsaph Katta!'

Your faction standing with The Truth got better.
    You gain experience!!

You get a "Silver Wrapping Paper" container.

You say, 'Who is Tsaph Katta?'

Arbogast says 'When you fake your death to discredit another you only discredit yourself when another sees your death was faked. Yes, you heard me correctly, Tsaph Katta lives on here in this city, can you guess who it is he pretends to be?'

Miller says 'Ooh! I know, I know! Nathyn Illuminious!!!'

Arbogast says 'Yes, yes, I know you know... very good Miller.'

Miller beams a smile your way.

Go get "Memoirs of Nathyn Illuminious" from behind the locked door in his castle on the table. Combine it in the Silver Wrapping Paper and return the resulting "A Silver Wrapped Book" to Arbogast.

Arbogast says, 'Ahh, you have retrieved the memoirs, let me see.' Arbogast opens the book and starts flipping through pages, 'Yes here, you... no, wait it must be back... hrmmm, maybe he... but it must... Well, that was pretty clever of old Tsaph Katta, removing any record of who he truly is- probably did it to cover up the fact that Norrath does not really exist.'

Your faction standing with The Truth got better.
    You gain experience!!

    You say, 'Norrath does exist.'

Arbogast says 'You are beginning to see the truest truths as the only true truths now, are you not? That large blue orb that hangs in the Luclin sky from time to time is nothing more than an overgrown comet. What appear to be land masses and other geological features are in actuality powerful illusions cast upon the comet by Tsaph Katta himself so that panic does not spread amongst the ignorant masses. I am not one to spread conjecture, but it is possible that Katta's astronomers have discovered that the comet is hurtling slowly toward Luclin and will destroy all life on the planet, so you can see why he would want to keep the truth about the [Exodus] from his journal.'

    You say, 'What Exodus?'

Arbogast says 'The Exodus is the single biggest lie propagated onto the people of Katta Castellum in the known history of the intelligent races. Hogwash I tell you.'

Miller says 'A bloody, boldfaced lie!'

Arbogast says 'A story told to children. Tsaph Katta wove together a tale of Seru trying to kill him on the fantasy world of "Norrath" and how the entire combine fled here to escape from him... a wheel of lies, do you see how they interconnect? Why, I'll bet that even in Shadowhaven, the very site of this alleged "Exodus" and home to one of the grandest libraries you will ever see, not a single shred of reliable evidence regarding such an event could be found. HA! You bring me a book on this "Exodus" and Miller here will eat his hat! Especially if the book is wrapped in that gold paper I gave you...'

You get a "Gold Wrapping Paper" container. At this point you go to ShadowHaven to the Library and find Beriol, or just skip and go to Rianna.

Beriol Talorakoir says 'Hail ______. And good day to you. What brings you to my quarters today? Do you wish to learn more about the [magic] that we study in our hallowed section of the Shadowhaven?

You say, 'Do you know of Exodus?'

Beriol Talorakoir says 'Ahh, the event that started it all it was the strife between Seru and Tsaph Katta that ultimately brought us here to Luclin. Those must have been interesting times but, being over twenty generations Luclin born, I could only guess. One of these days I would like to read up on the subject, but what little we do have about it is always checked out. If that's what you came looking for, good luck - check with Rianna, she is usually up on those things.'

Go to Rianna Birchard, to the right of Beriol by the wall.

    You say, 'Hail, Rianna Birchard'

Rianna Birchard turns to you and smiles brightly, 'Hello, ______. Lots of work to be done - books to shelve, lessons to learn... I know it sounds a bit ridiculous, but I feel so at home here.'

You say, 'Do you know of Exodus?'

Rianna Birchard says 'Wow, what an interesting subject - almost impossible to gather hard evidence on, even for me. It seems that everyone was so taken off guard by the sudden change of scenery that no one bothered to keep any written record of the time. First they had to figure out where they were and once they did there was so much disagreement as to what they should be doing - try to get home, stay where they were and settle in or put some distance between them and Seru should he and his people try to follow, which, of course they did. All this lead to the formations of three of the four major cities here on Luclin, all with... oh listen to me go on, sorry. We have only one book on the subject, but Peqi borrowed it just the other day.'

    You say, 'Where is Peqi?'

Rianna Birchard frowns a bit for the first time this conversation, 'Peqi... Let me tell you, I like just about everyone but if that little gnome never found his way back to this library I wouldn't be too disappointed.'

The book on the Exodus comes off Peqi Biato, who spawns in Shadow Haven in the buildings near the entrance to the casters' guild. Combine this book in the gold paper Arbogast gives you and return the resulting "A Gold Wrapped Book" to him.

Arbogast says 'Ahhh, excellent... I am glad to see your interest piqued. It is the truth that will liberate the masses when the masses fail to liberate the truth. To continue to divine and demystify the truth from the mistruth, I employ a powerful component known to the Akheva as 'Akuel xi ans Vius' which translated means 'Thing that tells Truth.''

Yavik Teralin says 'It translates to 'Gift of the Dark' you fool!'

Arbogast says 'Oh, the foolish and naive, they are the salt of the land... anyhow, bring me two of these wrapped in the black paper you have and I shall reward you, my new ally of truth, with a cherished robe that was given us by Seru himself. Isn't that right Miller? Miller...'

You receive "Black Wrapping Paper." The Akuel xi ans Vius are tradeable, but TEMPORARY, and do drop in Akheva. Combine 2 unstacked in the black paper Arbogast gives you and return the resulting "A Black Wrapped Item" to him.

Arbogast says 'Oh, would you look at that?'

Miller looks a bit distressed and says to Arbogast, 'You said he would die getting these and we could keep...'
Arbogast silences Miller with a kick under the table and smiles broadly at you, 'Well done and my very sincere thanks to you. The cloak is in the bank, Miller and I each hold a piece of it. We will go get it for you now.' Miller and Arbogast lean in close to each other and discuss this in whispers for a moment before getting up and heading out, Miller looking most dejected.

Arbogast says 'Right then, let's get going Miller.'

Miller and Arbogast do their business with the bank, Miller retrieving a heavy brown cloak and Arbogast a beautiful golden clasp. They look up at each other, unable to bear the thought of actually parting with their treasures when Arbogast says, 'You know what? I think we'll keep them. Thanks for your help, don't be a stranger. Come now Miller, let's not be a bother.' With that, they both tear off out the door.

    Miller says 'Wait for me!'

You will have to kill both Miller and Arbogast. Miller is approximately a level 47 warrior, Arbogast a level 49 cleric. Miller drops a Heavy Drape, as well as 2 NO TRADE/TEMPORARY swords, Arbogast the clasp (called "Ornate Carcanet"), a NO TRADE shimmering mace (Akheva Bane, +6 wis, 11/24, I believe). Both also drop a piece of Baleen Plate. Place the clasp in the drape, hit combine, and lo and behold! A Cloak of Truth.

Upon turning in the "Black Wrapping Paper", here is some missing dialogue:

Arbogast says 'Oh, would you look at that?'

Miller looks a bit distressed and says to Arbogast, 'You said he would die getting these and we could keep...'
Arbogast silences Miller with a kick under the table and smiles broadly at you, 'Well done and my very sincere thanks to you. The cloak is in the bank, Miller and I each hold a piece of it. We will go get it for you now.' Miller and Arbogast lean in close to each other and discuss this in whispers for a moment before getting up and heading out, Miller looking most dejected.

For, me, it had taken them 42 seconds this time to get up and head to the bank. Just a friendly reminder from someone who had to redo the quest: You must let them get to the bank and run out before attacking, otherwise you will need to start over.

Also, earlier in the quest Rianna Birchard would not talk to me when I said 'Exodus'. I moved on to saying 'Where is Peqi?' and the quest continued.

    Tips & Notes:
Get the door open by doing the camping thing enough to agro the servant...he will open the door for you by attacking you. He's the easiest of mobs you face here. He only dropped "Padded Sandals" 3AC .6 stone no other stats. Grab the book and exit fast enough or you will be locked in...be prepared....
Peqi has a lot of hp's for level, but is still relatively easy as he isn't an offensive dynamo, unless your resists are really are low. Turns and flees at low percentage. The 32k hit mentioned below, was for me my monk's Finishing Blow aa, that's probably what you saw from the rogue. (Last I knew assasinate disallowed the loot.) While he threatens to call the guards, the guards never agro'd inside or outside the building. The building is on the left, one or two (second or third door on the right) down, not right next to the bridge entrance.
Let Miller run back to the tavern, wait and tag Arbogast it's that easy to fight them one at a time out in the courtyard for any class.
The clasp is called -- An Ornate Carcanet, and looks like an old black and red shield icon.

In reviewing this quest recently, I find that this item (listed as a quest item as of this typing), is not.

The image iof the item is from me and I am pretty sure I got it during the Vampyre Troubles (LOYALIST SHIELD OF HONOR) quest.

    Completed Quest
    # Mar 30 2004 at 11:09 PM Rating: Decent
Here's some advice I can give from completing this quest:
    - Pretty fun quest(65 Druid)
    Natlyn's Memoirs:
    - Tried the trick of camping next to the door and relogging in wolf form....Got aggro from guards the first time and didn't work the other two times. When I got through with a rogue that picked the door, the book was on the table grabbed book quick and took out spawn of Coterie(light blue)...Heard to camp this guy because he drops a gem worth 450 PP's if anyone's interested...Believe he has 16 minute spawn time....Necros and Bards would have a leg up on this part because of Shadow Step...

    Peqi(Dark Blue):
-Wish I had more to offer, but I got a 65 rogue that was in zone and buffed him with everything I had....Fight took less than a second...He assasinated him or something...I checked my chat and the rogue had hit him for 32k hp's...

    Akheva Spectres(light blue):
    - Doesn't have to be The Protector, just the spectre guys that look like him....They seemed far in but the mobs for the most part don't see invis and I had pretty good luck getting around in there....

    Arbogast and Miller(light blue):
-Solo'd this...I did hand in and waited for them to take off from bank....I snared both of them and rooted Miller(warrior first)...DoT'd Arbogast and then Miller...Pretty easy fight...

    Good Luck & Good Hunting)

So the memoirs have a spawn cycle? Or is there a trigger? I am bound in room but never see it on desk. Does the door have to be opened or am i ok just porting in?

Do you have to camp here and kill the coterie?

    # Sep 11 2003 at 2:51 AM Rating: Decent
I am not exactly sure at what level you can open this door. My rogues first attempt to open it didn't work at skill level 140. But I ran to Befallen and clicked away for a bit. At skill level 175 I was able to pick the lock without an issue.
    Quest facts
    # Jul 29 2003 at 2:04 PM Rating: Decent
1- Bard cannot pick the lock, must be a rogue. not sure of the skill level but a rogue must pick the lock

2- The wizard in Shadowhaven does not affect any factions. 40k HP is about right. If you stun him constantly, he's relatively easy.

3- When you turn in the final piece, you must wait for BOTH Arbogast and Miller to go to the bank and get their pieces. We pulled Arbogast (the cleric) after he got his piece to the furthest point from the tavern in the courtyard. Had him down to half health when Miller walked out of the tavern and agro'd. Quest ruined. Since +5% meditate only improves meditate to 253, it's really not worth the reward for the risks taken. If I happen to get 2 of the NO-Rent stones (yes, they are still no-rent) I might try this quest again if I happen to have a rogue already in Katta.
    Final Fight
    # Mar 11 2003 at 4:51 AM Rating: Decent
I did the final fight tonight with myself, 55 warrior, and botted a 58 shaman. First pull, I got both of them to zone line where they proceeded to beat the crap out of me, and I zoned. Healed, medded up, zone back in. Waited until Arborgast reset and Miller was left standing by himself in the corner. Slow, dot, dot, melee, dot, dot, melee he went down fairly easily. Medded again, healed up, went back down to tavern and pulled Arbo, slow, dot, dot, melee, repeat.

What made the fight particularly interesting is that the shaman I use is KoS in Katta, so each time I zoned out of Katta, I had to immediately zone back in, so that I didn't get the crap beat out of me by the guards outside.

Handed the last piece into Miller, not Arbogast, waited about 1-2 minutes before Arbo headed to the bank, Miller lagged behind. Both spent a couple of minutes at bank before they took off running.

    Hope that helps anyone,

We used the camp next to door trick the first time someone in my guild tried this and it worked great. However the last time we tried, about a week ago, we couldn't get it to work and we tried about 10 times each (3 of us). I'm guessing they fixed this little trick. So does anyone know what skill it does require? Even if someone can still do the camping trick would be nice to know what skill is required.

Sorry for the double post. As a follow up on this. I got my Rogue to level 40 and Lock Pick skill of 200. He was able to open the door so 50 was not required. The coterie servant conned dark blue to me. Had a 58 druid with me and of course the servant was cake. So still not sure what skill is required for the door but 200 at most.

    # Jan 02 2003 at 9:59 AM Rating: Excellent
If, like me, you have too little inventory and bank space to keep around a useless 2-slot container (the black, gold and silver wrappers given by Arbogast), and don't want to have to worry about losing the NORENT Akuel xi ans Vius, don't hand in the wrapped items until you are ready for the next step. I actually did this quest in a bit of an odd order, I killed Peqi first of all, then I went to Katta, got the water from Arbogast, gave that to Phenic, got Phenic's water back. Now, I had to try and get the book from Nathyn's locked room, and I couldn't get hold of a rogue to open that door at the time, so I hung on to the water from Phenic until I had that book a few days later. Only then did I get the silver wrapper, in which I combined that book. I gave that to Arbogast, got the gold wrapper, and combined the Exodus (the book from Peqi) in that. The next step needed the Akuel xi ans Vius, so I did not hand in the gold wrapped book at this time, I just kept it in the bank till I finally had the 2 NORENT Akuels. I then went to Katta, gave the gold wrapped book, got the black wrapper, and combined the 2 Akuels in that to make a non-NORENT "a black wrapped item". I kept this in the bank till I was ready to try killing Arbogast and Miller, and only then did I turn this in to Arbogast.

    RE: Druid Solo?
    # Jan 02 2003 at 9:27 AM Rating: Decent
Might be do-able, as long as you kill Arbogast (the Cleric first). When I did the fight, I rooted and snared Miller, then I got Arbogast to chase me (by Anulling his buffs) to where a 60 monk and a 65 paladin took care of him... Arbogast was almost dead by the time Miller wandered up. (I had to drag Arbogast away because the Monk is Iksar and still KoS to the people in the Bar where Miller and Arbogast hang out). I think I probably could have soloed them at 61 in any case by kiting first Arbogast and then Miller through the tunnels and then the walkways in Katta - no-one else will help these two traitors.

12/7/02 finished quest today, was told might be broken quest. just wanted to let all know that after u hand in last item it takes about 2 min before they start walking to bank. arbogast walks first then a min pause, then miller walks to bank. they both stand there for another min. then run back to starting place.

Yes, this worried me too, I /reported the text in case it was a bug, then I ran to the bank, in case they repopped there; they weren't, so I started running back to the Bar to /petition when the door opened and Miller walked out. The rest went as the walkthrough indicates.

    Details on:

---Go get Nathyn's memoirs from behind the locked door in his castle, it is on the table. Put it in the silver wrapping container and return to Arbogast.---

Loc Pos 350 by Neg 753 (top side)

    helpful directions,
The room is the locked door on the secound lvl. Go in the front door, then go through the doors (right ot left does not mater) up the central stairs. At the top of the stairs turn right door will off the landing.

Once inside cross the room to the desk opposite the door. The book will be sticking out of the desk spine side up on the left side (not the large book laying down). Do not stay, in 15 sec the servent will spawn.

Does anyone know if the No Rent stones, once combined in the wrapping, are no longer No Rent?
I just was thinking that if they are...people would be able to collect them, do the combine , and then be able to log out if Arbo and Miller are not up. Unless the combined item is also No Rent (which would suck). Thanks.

Looking at the map on http://www.eqatlas.com/luclin/shadowhavenmap.html he is at about loc p400 n50 or so.

    Hope that helps.

I turned the black wrapped item in to Miller instead of Arbogast and the quest completed normally.

It was a fairly interesting fight for me dual boxing 60 warrior and 58 druid. Used Willsapper for slowing the mobs, and Arbogast nuked himself oom on the druid who kept him rooted so there were no CHs. If I'd bothered with little things like getting haste and crack it would have been easy.

Haven't found anything that raises "The Truth" except the turn in's while doing the quest. A druid, Shaman and myself (rogue) have done this quest seven times using sneak to do the turn in's to Arboghast and have not dropped below dubious yet.

    Best of luck.

Also drop off the Shadow reavers in Ahkeva. We got 5 in less than an hour doing it this way. Made a duel mule to hold them so they wouldn't poof and just waiting for Joe Bob and Billy Bob to spawn in Katta to do the quest a third time.

Waiting for the protector to drop these could take all day... Shadow reavers are a trap of sorts in the north wing. Walking around the corner just after the stairs to pick off the shaded anishers will spawn one pair and another trap just before the rocks in north as well.

I did this part of the quest today, and didn't have a whole lot of info on the locked door in katta, so here is what happened; took a group of 50+ to the manor and our rougue unlocked the door.. I'd read that he would get stunned right away, and we'd have to draw someone outside. However when he unlocked the door we could see no one. He unlocked it a couple more times and still no one inside. So finally I went inside the room, and picked the book up off the table... still no MOB! I came outside the room and we chatted for a bit, then about 15 seconds after i'd picked it up, a Coterie Servant popped at the door and attacked us. We killed it easily, and I even got experience. It appeared to be about the same level as the common coterie in Tenebrous, and dropped Boots of Night, ROG only, I don't remember the exact stats but it was AC, DEX, AGI, all around 5 or 6 with sneak +3%.
It appears to me that this part could be done fairly easily, without even fighting... unlock loot evac/succor!

Just got mine yesterday. A few minor details and or suggestions. Peqi is indeed a 48 to 60 hour spawn sry I cant narrow it down a bit more. As far as killing him, I did it 2 ways. First time we did it with 54 Druid (Iilene) 52 Druid (Foeseeker) and myself 51 Pally. Foeseeker healed while Iilene began to DD him after I had gotten him down to 4 bubbs of health. When he reached 2 bubb of health they both began DD'ing and Fight was over. Peqi has a Rune and a DS (Fire). Second time was 52 Mage (Falelron) 51 Pally (DracoKo) and Myself. This was easiest as The Pally's played Baby Clerics and healed the Tanking mage pet while the mage threw some big DD's. We jumped in when peqi had 2 bubbs of Health and Draco and I sucked all of his mana out (Thanx Verant for that sweet Karana spell). This in my opinion is the hardest part of quest. Due to the spawn time for Peqi. Miller and Arbo where tough but they are on a steady 24 hour spawn timer.

Ok now on Miller and Arbo. In short the first run at them we got wiped out. Very importent to have someone who can mezz or Ghetto mez (Means someone pulls agro and just keeps him rooted away from Arbo. In the first attempt we had 57 Mage (Nadarr) 54 Rainja (Oldpinetree) 50 Pally (Phelore) 52 Beastlord (Cheetoe) 52 Druid (Kias) and a 58 Cleric (Pharquart) We also has a 50+ Wizzy and Me outside group. Great Group bad start and we all got wiped out.

How we beat him. Finally the best strategy i think would be to simply have the puller target Arbo and when they begin to run have puller jump on Arbo and mezzer jump on miller. Everyone beat on Arbo and do it fast He is a cleric. We killed him and he did not get one CH off. Then the rest was easy Miller went down Quickly. This is group we had. 51 Pally (Me) 58 Bard 56 Warrior 50 Monk (Qianxun) 58 Cleric and 55 Druid. It was CAKE! Took less then 10 min from start to finish.

When they wiped us out they stand in an area in the courtyard for a min or so then say something like "I think we better go" "I think your right" then poof they gone for 24 hours. They did not return with the Items on them. U must do the quest all over again. I know this for sure GRRR. =o)

    Key Points:
Have someone there to Mez or Ghetto Mez Miller. He quads for lots of points I think 134 max each hit.
Have a Pally for Stun and Thunder of Karana. Mana suck Arbo and Stun him so he has not a chance to Heal.
A Monkey is huge. Keeps him stunned
    Have a shammy for slows.

    Loot:
Arbo drops a descent Sword that has a nice +6 wis mod on it. Save that for them druids that save all of our ******
Miller Drops 2 No drop Swords that are 17dmg 24 delay with +5 STamina and +5 StrEngth. Very nice. Nice when they are 1h slash. that would be 10 str and 10 stam.

I hope this helps. I am enjoying mine =o) Thanx to Orion Council for the Help =o)

Swords are 6 / 24 with stats and Dmg bonus on them was 11 - big diff between 17/24 swords, So dont get some wars hopes up by telling them you get the cloak and they get to keep the swords :)
