This is a wonderful quest to build faction with some of the denizens of Shadowhaven. It is relatively easy to complete since you can run invisibly between the questmasters if need be and should be very handy for saving up money for that new steed!

    STEP 1

The quest begins at Trade Commissioner Henry, adjacent to the warriors guild in Shadowhaven. Location -297, 392, -24, in the building by the bridge leading to Paludual Caverns.

You say, 'Hail, Trade Commissioner Henry'

Trade Commissioner Henry says 'Hello there, traveler. I don't believe that I have seen you around these parts before- then again, I could have and simply forgotten since there have been so many new faces around here. However, if you are a newcomer to Shadowhaven, please make sure that you [register for trading] in the Haven. Registering with the Traders of the Haven will legitimize you in the eyes of local merchants and customers.

You say, 'I will register for trading'

Trade Commissioner Henry says 'It's great that you are interested Ashwith, you will surely be glad you did. I have some simple deliveries that I need completed if you wish to be a registered trader in Shadowhaven.

    You say, 'What deliveries?'

Trade Commissioner Henry says 'The deliveries are simple enough, I just need you to bring some letters to some merchants of the Haven that are currently working in other locations. Will you [deliver these letters]?

You say, 'I will deliver these letters'

Trade Commissioner Henry says 'I surely do appreciate the help, Ashwith- clearly you understand the value of solid relations with the locals. First, I will need you to take this newsletter to Sateal. He is currently on assignment in the Bazaar and has been out of the loop on the happenings of Shadowhaven because of his heavy workload. Bring this to him and then return to me with his sales report. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Trade Commissioner Henry gives you a Tattered Newsletter.

    STEP 2

Hand the Tattered Newsletter to Sateal Deirosap who can be found in the middle of The Bazaar zone in the merchants' area. Location 0.5, 14.8,1.66.

Sateal Deirosap says 'Ah great, I have been meaning to go and pick one of these up from the Trade Commissioner but I have been very busy with my work. I'm sure Henry has been waiting for my sales report so here it is. Please return it to him for me if you could and thanks again!'

    You gain experience!!

Sateal Deirosap gives you a Sales Report.

    STEP 3

Return the Sales Report to Shadowhaven and hand it in to Trade Commissioner Henry.

Trade Commissioner Henry says 'Great to see you back so soon Ashwith, you looked like a dependable person from the start. The next thing I need you to do is a bit more dangerous, but by the looks of you I doubt it will be a problem. Go to the Shadowhaven outpost in Fungusgrove and give Thar this book. Thar is a great merchant but I have seen his sales steadily declining, so I figured this book full of selling tips will help him regain his confidence and help him produce the kinds of numbers I know he is capable of. If his economy report is ready please, bring that back to me when you return.'

    You gain party experience!!

Trade Commissioner Henry gives you a Book of Sales Secrets.

    STEP 4

You'll need to locate Thar Anton in the Fungus Grove outpost. Location -1317, -847, -272 in the second building on your left after you zone in from Echo Caverns. You can travel to Fungus Grove from Shadowhaven by going through the Echo Caverns. Thar Anton can be found on a raised platform about midway through the Fungus Grove outpost. He's wearing a white robe and sells basic provisions. For amusement purposes, I hailed him... as you can see, he's quite the confident salesman. *coughs*

    You say, 'Hail, Thar Anton'

Thar Anton says 'Hello there traveler. I have many wares for sale so please take a look at what I have. If you think all my goods are junk and wish to buy from someone else though I'll understand.

Hand the Book of Sales Secrets to Thar Anton in Fungus Grove.

Thar Anton says 'I see you have brought a book from the Commissioner. Well I'm not much for reading but I will surely try anything that may increase my sales. Anyways I'm sure you aren't that interested in how bad my sales are and would like to be on your way so here you go.'
Your faction standing with Traders of the Haven has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with House of Fordel has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with House of Midst has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with House of Stout has been adjusted by 1.
    You gain experience!!

Thar Anton gives you his Economy Report.

    STEP 5

Return the Economy Report to Trade Commissioner Henry back in Shadowhaven.

Trade Commissioner Henry says 'Excellent work Ashwith, I knew that you were someone that I could trust to get the job done. The trader's union of Shadowhaven will hear of your solid work ethic. Perhaps a courier job is in your future, I couldn't have expected anyone to make these deliveries as fast as you did! Please take this amulet as a symbol of your dedication to Shadowhaven's booming economy. While wearing this you are sure to get all the greatest deals from the merchants of the Haven both here and in the bazaar. It was a pleasure meeting, you and thanks for all of your help.'
Your faction standing with Traders of the Haven has been adjusted by 200.
Your faction standing with House of Fordel has been adjusted by 20.
Your faction standing with House of Midst has been adjusted by 20.
Your faction standing with House of Stout has been adjusted by 20.
    You gain experience!!

Trade Commissioner Henry gives you the Amulet of the Haven.

    Hiya!

I have done the quest 4 times and I can now buy and sell from anyone, BUT the trainers wont have anything to do with me.

How many times do I need to do this quest before I can get trained in SH?

    Thanks!

Just completed the quest for the first time with my 25 lvl BST and trainer went from scowling to amiable. Traders in that building also all con'd amiable.

This item has been nerfed due to a bug. Apparently the item was giving positive faction hits to everyone, not just the Traders of the Haven. Or, so the rumour mill states. Verant decided it would be better to just remove the faction modifier than fix it.

The Amulet now has a +2 cha modifier and that's it. The quest does still add very good amounts of faction. But, I believe most merchants are not only on the Traders of the Haven faction, but also on the appropriate house faction.

I did go from indeifferent to amiable after one run on this quest, however merchant cons stayed the same. I will try raising my faction with the varying houses to see if that works later on.

This quest raises faction with only one group of merchants. They are the ones in the NW quadrent of town. The merchants in the east and in the short quarter are on stout faction, which is raised by other quests.

Yes folks, this quest can be done by very low level chrs. I am a level 9 Vah Shir Beastlord. I have done this quest 2 times so far without any problems (Aside from a nasty needler that attacked me).

If you do get attacked just run for the guards in the tunnel. They will make short work of any Needlers.

As for the spores, follow all of the sugestions made by the others here and stay as far to the oposit wall as you can. Good luck and good questing!

@*#&(*@ I finally heard of sn object that would help me as a quest prize. Being an Innoruuk Dark Elf Mage is probably the hardest faction I can think of other than Iksar...heck the Ogres won't sell to me cuz I am a mage and most others won't because I am a DE / Innoruuk. So I was happy to hear of this. BUT after four times....NO faction chaneg AT ALL (Still Dubiuos) AND they still throw their dishes at me till I leave 8 (

What gives Verant? Did you make soemthing nice then decide it was too nice and totally nerf it?

The enemies in echo caverns that aggro you--which, by the way, you can NOT target--are the very strange looking tentacle-plants growing on the ceiling and walls. One tends to think that, since you can't target them, they're just another cool environmental effect of Luclin.

WRONG! Pain! Root! More pain! These buggers will aggro you if you move close enough, and do a continuous root/drain for about 50 every tick or few. My level 22 paladin got roasted by a couple that aggroed him at the same time. They can't move, but the "spell" is instantly casted and can be cast at a range...Just avoid these guys like the DEVIL.

By the way--There are no dangers in fungus grove if you go in through echo caverns...Just a slosh through the muck and you're at the outpost.

the tentacle-plants in the echo caverns are actually TRAPS!!! yep thats it... They can be sensed and disarmed by Rogues. This is why you can't target them normally. Verant has finally decided to make those skills more useful.

I lost a level to these nasties also. I did the quest when I was level 18/19, and was told by some higher levels (via a /shout in SH)of the secret passage in the room behind the Soulbinder. I took the shortcut, and walked my happy elven butt right into one of those Spores...I figured (being the stalwart ranger that I am...) that if I could not select it by clicking on it, and it did not show up on track...that it must be come cool scenery that Verant added for our pleasure...WRONG....

Long story short (too late...), a friend of mine who frequented Fungus Grove guided me through Echo Caverns by staying at the extreme opposite walls while going on our way....there is 'safe zones' around those spores, and if you are VERY careful, u can do it...now you just gotta watch out for roaming boglings...

Amulet is nerfed. I was looking at it in my spare time, it no longer says that it gives a faction adjustment. It also no longer changes my faction. Prices are only affected by a few coppers, due to Cha. I guess Verant nerfed without telling us. Though, it might be just broken. At least the quest gives lots of faction... too bad it won't affect horse prices.

Btw, what's the deal with there only being two horse merchants? There should be merchants hidden all across Luclin, maybe with discounts or better horses! Let's all spam with petitions! >cough< Marnek's Dagger of Blood >cough<!

The hidden door isn't a door really it's inside one of the rooms around the spires. If I remember right it's one of the ones in a corner, and when you go in, hug the right wall and run straight facing away from the door. Should drop you in on the top level of echo caverns.

And the place you will be in fungus grove doesn't have any fungus so you'll be ok =) Otherwise you'd need a full group of 55+ to help you.

    Hope that helps.

    question...
    # Jan 03 2002 at 5:46 AM Rating: Default
I have done the quest about 8 times or so with my gnome necro and am now an ally witht hte guy that gives it and wearing the necklace reduces prices ever so slightly (might just be the cha doing that though). My problem is that it hasn't changed my faction with teh bazaar traders, including horse traders at all as far as I can tell - no change in con or prices. I was wondering if they had made it so they are no longer on traders of the haven faction maybe? Anyone else have this problem? Also what npc's are on the house factions and where? Thanks in advance - Malados
    RE: question...
    # Jan 03 2002 at 6:17 PM Rating: Decent
The merchants in the Bazaar all seem to be on Beta Neutral faction now. Most disappointing after I ran this quest enough times to become Ally to Henry. I was hoping to get a bit of a break on the cost of my horse.

As for the necklace, wearing it has absolutely no effect on how the merchants /con to me (either in the Bazaar or in Shadow Haven), nor does it affect prices at all. I'm guessing it's broken.
    What's the point, then?
    # Jan 04 2002 at 9:46 PM Rating: Excellent
Let me get this straight: The merchants I'm trying to raise my faction with via this quest are no longer in the faction that this quest adjusts? Exactly who is it that I'm getting to like me better?

Considering that my Erudite Paladin is dubious to practically -every- merchant in Shadow Haven (even fellow Erudites give him the "ruined your lands" spiel,) and so has a hard time even buying food and drink, would someone please tell me what the point of doing this quest is? I can't even begin to understand it.

Glad I read this before trying a run through Fungus Grove. With my luck, I'd be halfway in, invisibility would drop, and I'd get annihilated by two dozen level 50 mushrooms.

If someone clueful would be kind enough to enlighten me, I'd much appreciate it. I don't want to be porting back and forth from Erudin just so I can eat and sell loot.
    RE: What's the point, then?
    # Mar 07 2002 at 9:07 PM Rating: Decent
No, do the quest. And a few times. Different merchants are on different faction. You'll find the merchants in the lower (northwest) quarter go up very fast - my woodelf ranger went from apprehensive to kindly with them all after the third time round. the others take longer - there's a post lower down with some figures.

My trainer wouldn't speak to me even before i did the quest. He was warmly too after three reps.

Dont worry about Fungus. No nasties if you go in through SH cos you go straight into the village. Just run through the first part of the village, go through the first big arch, and follow the next building on the left round to the left till you go up some little steps and find a door.

Lastly the wormspores in echo caverns: they nearly killed me (well, took half my hp before i got away) three times. Sneak, hugging wall etc didnt help. I now run through unmolested by simply making sure i dont stop at all. Maybe they need time to react? I have MR only 25 with current gear too, no modifiers at all. If you are having trouble, just try a run up, and dont stop or hesitate...
    RE: What's the point, then?
    # Jan 19 2002 at 9:29 AM Rating: Decent
Good question, did it 6 times myself...the commissioner loves me and so does Anton...that's it. Necklace is +2 chr +1 ac and thats all. I have a troll war, gnome enc, woody druid, erudite sk, and none can talk to the merchants.

    # Dec 29 2001 at 6:19 AM Rating: Default
I think you all missunderstand the quest, its to rase faction with the people. The necklace adds to you CHA thus making you more friendly.
IE you may have to do some of the other faction quests too to get you faction up. As I already have a good CHA and AC necklace its worthless to me. Seems like the Steaon faction quest may be better.
    RE: Not Nerfed?

If you notice on the necklace it says it has a faction modifier, so it is broken :(

Idont think it is broken myself doesnt change what they con to me but without this item the cheapest horse is 9k almost 10 with it on it drops it to 8500 or so its at least a 1k difference the charm points itself do not make that difference i am necro and alot of neg charm items take em off and see almost no difference leave em on and this item and there goes a k off the price.

i did this quest with my agnostic erudite wiz 5 times today. Myobjective was to lower the prices for the horses so i could afford one. Here are some interesting things that happenned afterwards.

    1. till the first three times i did the quest, it raised my faction to amiable. Lowered the price of the cheapest horse by about 2k pp from what it was before the quest

    2. the 4th time i did hte quest i got to warmly and the price of the the cheapest horse had INCREASED buy about 1.5k pp from what it was before the quest.

    3. i did the quest 5th time to see if it corrected the problem, it further raised the horse price about 1k pp (now 2.5k pp MORE than what it was before i started).

4 so i go damn turned off and petitioned. turned out that (quoting the gm on this) "while the faction bug was fixed for this quest so that it wont raise your faction with eeryone, some race/class/diety combinations got bugged and are now behaving erratically"

so basically its bad luck for me, i gotta wait till they fix it, (and then do it all over again) to get my horse cheap.

a very interesting fact to note here is that a DE cleric friend of mine who got to ally by doing this quest 6 times, has the most expensive horse (chain bridle) now sold to her for ONLY 28k, that coming down from around 113k (what it was for her before the quest. literally makes my cry =), coz i cant buy that horse yet ....... i dunno offcourse which class/race/diety combinations are fixed and which are bugged, but i hope someone out there has more luck in this regard than me =)

    hope this helps someone.

    Spores
    # Dec 21 2001 at 9:03 AM Rating: Decent
The spores in Echo can not be avoided with invis. The only way is to get as far from them as possible while passing them. If you get rooted, you become visible AND your blood begins to be drained. I was on my 31 enchanter running this quest WITH Rune 3 on and even that didn't help. Rune WILL NOT keep you from loosing two bulbs of health if you are an enchanter lvl 31. Keep your magic resist up (was at 86).

The amount of Shadowhaven faction you get for this quest is A LOT, especially for such a simple errand quest. There are 4 legs to this delivery quest -- the first two legs give no factions; the third leg gives small faction increases; the fourth leg gives you the lion's share of faction increases -- so completing all 4 legs of the quest is necessary.

2000 faction points takes you from beginning faction to maximum faction. So repeating this quest 10 times would maximize your Traders faction. Repeating this quest 100 times would maximize your 3 House factions.

Here is how my Iksar fared repeating this quest 20 times. (I destroyed the necklace reward; don't need it now.) Your results should be similar.

Traders of the Haven, +200 points of faction per quest completion
    begin: apprehensively
    1: amiably
    3: kindly
    5: warmly
    6: ally
    10: ally, maximum faction

House of Fordel, House of Midst, House of Stout, +20 points of faction per quest completion
    begin: dubiously
    7: apprehensively
    12: indifferently
    17: amiably

Had never been to Fungus Grove before... ran through that passage with all the plants at 45, without Sow, and nothing aggroed on me except those boglings...

Unfortuately, the "fix" they did to this item seems to have been total. The Shadow Haven merchants's faction doesn't change whether it's on or off (they were already amiable from doing the "daily reports quest" five times), and the only difference in prices could easily be attributed to the 2 CHA on it.

None of the "Short" merchants will seel to me either - they're still dubious. Another odd thing- the Haven Defenders went from Amiable to Indifferent! Maybe I'm delusional...
