Rarnan Lapice is located at -725, -85 outside the Temple of Divine Light in Erudin. Requires amiable faction to Peacekeepers to complete the final turn-in.

You say, 'Hail, Rarnan Lapice'

Rarnan Lapice says 'It is good to meet you, ______. To enter the Temple of Divine Light is to invite Quellious into your body and soul. Tranquility is our way and, as such, we do all we can to uphold it. Are you a [cleric of Quellious], or am I mistaken?'

You say, 'I am a cleric of Quellious.'

Rarnan Lapice says 'I have a small task for you then. Go to the city library and ask the librarian for the book 'The Testament of Vanear'. I shall require it for further studies. Do not return empty-handed or you shall know my rage.'

Illithi Nollith is located at -1075, -220 in the Erudin City Library in Erudin.

You say, 'Hail, Illithi Nollith'

Illithi Nollith says 'Shhhh... Greetings, ______. Welcome to the Library of Erudin. Please respect the other patrons and speak softly.'

You say, 'I need the Testament of Vanear.'

Illithi Nollith says 'Oh my!! You have not heard?! The Testament of Vanear was stolen from the library! It was checked out by a man named Moodoro. He is an Erudite, but I believe he was executed for some crime. Now the book is lost forever. You should speak with Tol Nicelot. He used to know Moodoro. Tol is most likely upstairs.'

Tol Nicelot is located at -1095, -240 on the top floor of the library in Erudin.

You say, 'Hail, Tol Nicelot'

Tol Nicelot says 'I have no time to waste with strangers!'

You say, 'Did you know Moodoro?'

Tol Nicelot says 'Yes, I knew Moodoro Finharn. He used to be a good friend until he started visiting Qeynos and indulging in human vices. He was executed for crimes against the state. Not even his sister [Nolusia] could get the charge dropped. There have been some who say he escaped execution and lives in Qeynos. That is insane babbling.'

Moodoro Finharn is located at +165, +325 outside Crows Pub & Casino in North Qeynos.

You say, 'Hail, Moodoro Finharn'

Moodoro Finharn says 'Greetings, fellow traveler! I gotta tell ya. I love this town. Especially Crow's. Although the crowd seems a bit shadier than other places of the sort.'

You say, 'What Testament of Vanear?'

Moodoro Finharn says 'So you have heard that good old Moodoro has knowledge of the Testament of Vanear. I care little for that book. Of course I have it!! If you want it, I will sell it to you for two gold pieces.'

Give him 2 gold.

Moodoro Finharn says 'HA!! I hope you enjoy the book. It is missing pages 30 and 34. It is nothing more than garbage without them. A rogue ripped them from their bindings and sold them to [Ran].'

You receive a container called Testament of Vanear.

You say, 'Who is Ran?'

Moodoro Finharn says 'Ran Flamespinner is a librarian in Highpass Hold.'

Ran Flamespinner is located at -45, -345 in Highpass Keep.

You say, 'Hail, Ran Flamespinner'

Ran Flamespinner says 'I am very sorry to have to inform you that the library is off limits to strangers.'

You say, 'What Testament of Vanear?'

Ran Flamespinner says 'So, you seek the page 30 I recently purchased from an Erudite named Moodoro? He also had page 34, but refused to sell it to me. If you seek page 34, you will first have to find Moodoro. I had page 30 for but a few days when a man swiped it from the library's shelves. I believe he wore the garb of a guard of Qeynos. He darted away so fast I did not have time to cast a single spell! I believe he is still in Highpass, I can feel it!!'

Dyllin Starsine is located at +10, +55 in Highpass Hold.

You say, 'Hail, Dyllin Starsine'

Dyllin Starsine says 'Hey!! I don't have any spare change, okay?!'

You say, 'What Testament of Vanear?'

Dyllin Starsine says 'So you heard Guard Dyllin has page 30 of the Testament of Vanear, eh?! Well, get lost!! Over my dead body will you get page 30!'

You have slain Dyllin Starsine!
You have looted a Page 30 of a Book..

Return to Moodoro Finharn.

You say, 'I want page 34.'

Moodoro Finharn says 'So, you know I have page 34. Pretty smart of me to tear the most important page out before someone else tried, eh? If you really want it, then sit down and deal in. Ante is 4 gold. I will give you one card. If it is a jester, then I will give you the page. Let's do it.'

Give him 4 gold and receive a card. You can receive one of several, but eventually you will get the Jester.

Moodoro Finharn says 'Well, what do you have?!!'

Give Moodoro the Jester.

Moodoro Finharn says 'Lucky you. We were hoping to really clean you out. Here you go. Take the page. Even together, the book is nothing more than fiction.'

Combine Page 30 of a Book and Page 34 of a Book in the Testament of Vanear container to craft a different Testament of Vanear. Return to Rarnan and give this to him.

Rarnan Lapice says 'I sent you after that book ages ago! What took you so long? I have already completed my studies. Luckily I found the original manuscript under my bedroll. I forgot I had kept it there. Take this as a token of my apology. Maybe it will aid you in your next book hunt. I know how cunning those books can be.'

HowTO for KOS Qeynos
# Dec 18 2000 at 11:17 PM Rating: Decent
Ok getting page 30 is easy, compare to those of us KOS to the corrupt guards. I am talking about Lieutenant Dagarok a 50th level corrupt guard Shadow Knight that harm touches for 800-900 points, that hangs outside of Crows. So to keep it short, you can't run and if you want to know if your getting to close to him, you probably already dead. No invis does not work unless you at a level to not worry about him in the first place. I was 26th when I started this quest and 25th when I finished. Bottom line go into Crows when the LT has moved in front of the entrance to Southern Qeynos. Once in do not leave, gate out. Kill Flynn Merrington who also probably hates you. Do not let him run and do not follow him. If he does not attack you great. Now you can give the gold to Moodoro Finharn whether he likes you or not. He will try and leave the tavern. Let him do not follow. He will come back. Keep giving him the 5gp inside the tavern do not leave until done and then gate out or have a spotter tell you that the LT is in front of the entrance to SQ you have been warned 6th deaths went into figuring this out. Good Luck.

Being bad is not a real problem kill Gnolls until the Normal Gaurds like you/ dubious is fine and then you can complete the quest. It is harder for good guys because of the LT that is near Moodoro. He kills you in one hit if the corupt gaurds dont like you, and they dont like me:)

I had a very easy time with this quest. I spent about 45 minutes killing the necro at the dock in Tox for faction. He is on a 6 minute spawn time. He's easy, Root, DoT, and then expulse summoned on his pet. I went to Queynos and the Jester card was the first card that I got dealt. I ported to NK and ran to HighPass got to the spot when Dylinn spawns and he was being camped. I camped out came back at 7:30 in the morning, I got there just as he was walking away from his post, I followed him down the waters edge. I figured it was now for never, I attacked him and he eventually ran away into the water, and died from the DoT. All in all I spent about 3-4 hrs at most and most of that was travelling.

Starshine solo at 17 - so sweet :)
# Nov 30 2000 at 10:16 AM Rating: Default
Read this board last night and decided to try the quest with my level 17 wood elf druid. Went to Queynos and talked to Moodoro. He conned dubious and told me "I didn't know that slime could walk" or some other charming phrase, but I gave him 2 gold and he forked over the book. I had 200 gold on me cause I had heard it can take a while to get the jester, but I gave him 4 gold and he coughed it up on the first try. Then i went up to highpass with a level 54 wizzie friend watching my back. Dyllin was camped by a level 29 druid who said he'd been there for 5 hours and he was going to get some level 50+ guildemates to help him in case the big smuggler aggroed. This shook my confidence a little but I bound there and went out on other business. At about 9:00 pst the druid told me that he had just killed dyllin and he is an 8 hour spawn. I got on at 6:00 AM pst the next morning and who was standing all alone next to me but Dyllin Starshine. The only other mob in sight was a smuggler who conned blue, so I decided to seize the day, despite being without my wizzie friend. Attacked him and the smuggler aggroed immediately, and they killed me:( Respawned right next to my corpse, and still no big smuggler so I tried again, with a little more strategy this time. I noticed that the cliff off to Dyllin's right is directly above the zone into the hold, so this time I levitated, put on a skin buff and damage shield, and cast harmony on the smuggler. I rooted Dyllin and then backed out of meelee range and nuked him until root broke, then meeleed and nuked. Dyllin was well over half dead when harmony broke on the smuggler and he joined in. I finished off Dyllin and looted him with the smuggler beating on me, then ran off of the cliff and zoned with half a bubble of hit points to spare! I was in the shower by 6:30 and my druid is the only level 17 on his block with a testament of vanear and 151 wisdom. Woohoo!

If you watch for the "red" or "blue" smuggler, he is on a cycle. When he heads down to the water, he is down there for 3 minutes.... Take the time and wait for him to be leaving and headed towards the water before you attack Dyllin. Works sweet :)
That Short Camp

If you really want it, and don't want to sit and wait for hours on end, then just wait until the server is patched. Patch day yesterday, I leapt straight on, as soon as the servers came back up, and there he was.

Btw, I didn't kill him straight away, if you have a little patience and wait for him to walk about, he'll walk down to the point where you enter that smuggler's place, out of sight of all the smugglers, and you'll not have to worry about the big Level 50 smuggler when you start bashing away at him... he did run, but he actually started to swim out, rather than run to the smugglers.
RE: That Short Camp
# Jan 10 2001 at 1:09 PM Rating: Default
I killed him after the 9-Jan-2001 patch, but I don't recommend patience. I camped the login screen and there were only 200 players on the whole server when I entered. I killed him straight away because I didn't see the red con smuggler. Well, I did get killed by the red smuggler, backstabbing me for 363 the second Dyllin died, but I was bound at the keep and made it back in time easily.

By the time I came back to his and my corpse, TWO other people were already standing there that had wanted to kill Dyllin. I consider losing half a bubble of experience at level 21 the better option, then waiting for Dyllin to move and having somebody else killsteal him.
Avoiding the tough Smuggler
# Nov 29 2000 at 10:35 AM Rating: Default
By the time I got my Testament I was on my third Dylin kill. The first time I'd helped a friend do the quest and the second time I stupidly forgot to hand the Jester card back to Moodoro and combined it with the page from Dylins corpse to get the dreaded 'those items do not combine' message.

Anyway, when Dylin popped, he aggro'd on me straight away which was rather worrying as the red smuggler was standing right there in his little spot. I had been planning to wait for him to start his little journey but no such luck.

When Dylin attacked me, I didn't fight back straight away - I cast harmony on the smuggler first (being a druid helps!) but note that it took a while before I could get the cast off in-between Dylin hitting me. The smuggler did not attack at all - but at this point I had not fougt back against Dylin so perhaps that was why.

Once the smuggler was harmonised then it was time to teach Dylin a lesson. At level 29 this was kinda easy =)

Assuming you're NOT kos to Dylin and are not surrounded by kill stealers then watch that red smuggler. He makes several trips. When he wanders down the pathway to your right, you're safe to engage Dylin as the smuggler with be gone for around 2 mins. If you're about level 22ish or above then you need not worry about any of the other smugglers, they'll be too low and wont aggro on you.

Good luck.
How do you get smugglers off your back?
# Nov 28 2000 at 10:10 PM Rating: Default
Well, how do you get the smugglers off your back when you're killing Dyllin? Or more precisely, how do you get the lvl 50 smuggler (the only one I've heard cares about killing Dyllin) off your back? What class is best able to calm that guy?

Also please post any other useful information that you think might help a lvl 20 Cleric obtain a most perfect Christmas present. (The Testament of Vanear of course)
How to Avoid Nasty New Smuggler?
# Nov 24 2000 at 6:02 PM Rating: Default
This guy who cons red to me at level 25, patrols the area and actually parks right where Dyllin spawns. Where is a safe spot to engage Dyllin without pulling this guy? Up the ramp has two smugglers...granted they are blue or green, but the last thing you want is more mobs to fight off. And the whole clearing area is no good because Mr. Red con walks entirely across it.
8 hours
# Nov 23 2000 at 2:24 PM Rating: Default
This quest took me exactly 8 hours to camp...got the book and jester card in about 4 seconds...camped Dyllin for about 7 hours and 56 seconds. Hope you have a TV by you when you camp. The worst part about this is a paranoia that someone is just gonna come by and kill him, when you arent paying attention to the screen...
Faction with Moodoro - check it out
# Nov 19 2000 at 11:35 PM Rating: Default
If you're struggling cuz you cant get the container and the jester card from Moodoro, because your faction is bad (and wolfform doesnt help) there here is a guaranteed solution.

Moodoro belongs to Crimson Hands faction, as I researched and tested it. So the easy way to better your faction with Crimson Hands is to go to Toxx forest and find a lvl 7 Necro named Elial Brook. Really easy to kill, and increases your faction with CH. I killed him maybe 10 times and when i came back to Qeynos, Moodoro judged me amiably. You dont loose any faction with Elial either, other then Heretics, which as you probably already found out is really bad anyway, unless you're an evil race (i'd assume).
So there you go. Hopefully that solved your problems, as it did for me

I just did the quest just recently on Nov. 16, 2000, and here's what I found:
The smugglers around him will assist, if they're a high enough level. Also the red smuggler is definately red, and does hit for 117 and backstab for 369. First time I tried him I got beat up by him, but I respawned, rememmmed spells, and then watched him better. You do have to wait until he goes down to the water, because on his normal patrolling of back and forth he will aggro on you if you're fighting Dyllin.
As for Moodoro Finharn, he was dubious to my Wood Elf druid, and refused to give me the book or playing card when I handed him money. Fortunately, I tried using wolf form. He then conned aprehensive to me, and cooperated with my gifts of gold. I had to sink about 130 gp into him before I finally got a jester, and also received zero knights. Ah well, saves a trip to OOT. =P
Anyhow, just clicked the combine button...yee-haw! +10 wis, baby. ;-)

RE: Iksars use????
# Nov 27 2000 at 7:43 PM Rating: Default
Iksar can do this quest pretty easily... I was KOS with Moodoro (of course) and had a friend cast wolf form on me. Once in my wolfie guise, every NPC in Qeynos conned dubious to me and Moodoro let me play his game with him. I don't see why this wouldn't work even if you had irreparably damaged your already dismal faction with Qeynos NPC's... killing a ton of treants comes to mind. Someone posted above that they found Moodoro to not be on Hand of the Unseen faction so I don't see how he would remain KOS to you in wolf form.

My Story
# Nov 15 2000 at 12:40 PM Rating: Default
This is the best and easiest quest ever.

First, i traveled to qeynos and located Moordoro. He was located inside The Crow. I walked up to him and gave him 2 gp and in return he gave me the book. Then i gave him 4 gp and on the second try he gave me the first page to the quest. It was Page 30.

Then as being a 20th lvl druid i ported myself to West Karana and traveled from there to High Hold.

As i got to HH , i finally found the spawn site.
And luckly no one was there. So i hurried up and camped and binded myself there.

But soon others came by and either wanted the camp or just wanted to help. I had a very long wait. It took Dyllin 7 1/2 hours to spawn. In the mean time I made friends there and practiced, practiced, practiced my skills. If you do not get lucky to be there when he spawns, you will have a very boring, tiring wait. But it is all worth what you get in return.)

I had a 32 ranger help me kill Dyllin. Mainly i wanted him there to keep the smugglers away. I killed Dyllin and hurried up and looted the page. And after that i remember someone saying RUN. and then i died by the RED SMUGGLER.

But i got the page before i died. And since i was bound there. I just came back and looted and hit combine and there it was the TEST OF Vanear.

I just did the quest -- my story
# Nov 14 2000 at 11:07 AM Rating: Default
I just completed this quest today, so I thought I'd share my experience in case it helps anyone else.

First I went to Qeynos, since I didn't want to risk being KOS to the corrupt guards after killing Dyllin. I locate Moodoro outside of Crows (by the pond) and pay him 2gp for the book (thus avoiding a trip to Erudin). Then I start giving him 4gp until he eventually (about 60-80gp later) gives me the Jester. I gave him the Jester and he gave me page 34 of the book.

Note: I also kept the Knight cards that Moodoro gave me. If you go to Eriolissi Island (aka the Sisters Island in the Ocean of Tears -- first stop off the boat from Freeport), find a campfire with a dwarf standing next to it. There should also be a hut next to it. Inside the hut is a dwarf who'll sell you armor. If you give him the Knights, he'll give you some exp and a piece of armor. Being a druid, I couldn't wear it, so I sold it back to him for a few plat. Helped recoup the money I paid Moodoro to get the Jester. Be sure to give it to the dwarf who sells armor, though. The other guy, well, he will take the Knights from ya, but you'll walk away empty-handed.

Ok, so now I've got the 2-slot book and page 34. Now all that is left is the awful part -- killing Dyllin.

Dyllin spawns in Highpass Hold. To find him, go to the pond in the zone and jump in. An underwater passage will lead to a cave. Climb up into the cave and eventually you'll see a bigger room. Inside the room there is a corner with a stove, rug, and a tent held up by some posts. This is where Dyllin spawns. One way to recognize it is that there are often people there waiting for him to spawn.

The first time I went there, nobody was in Dyllin's room. Neither Dyllin nor any campers. I wandered around until another player walked up. I asked if it was where Dyllin spawned, and he said yes. He camped soon, and I kept waiting. I bound myself there and wandered off. Came back later and someone was sitting in front of the spawn site. I came back later, and the same person was there, but so was Dyllin's corpse...without the pages. (He did have Bayle Letter III, though). I came back once more before I camped for the night. One person was sitting there, but Dyllin wasn't there. I woke up this morning and checked, and Dyllin was there. Woo-hoo! So was the camper from the night before, but she evidently wasn't at the keyboard. I waited a while to see if she would attack, but she didn't. So I harmonied the nearby smugglers and attacked Dyllin.

I hadn't been attacking Dyllin for very long when I was hit for 115 damage by a smuggler. They con apprehensive to me, so perhaps that's why they helped him. Not sure. Anyway, I had to run. Eventually they killed me out in the middle of Highpass. Since I was bound, I reappeared in Dyllin's room. I went to go find my corpse, figuring someone would wander by and kill Dyllin.

Evidently not. I found Dyllin standing over my corpse. One player was looking at him, but then wandered off. This time nobody else was near Dyllan, so I was able to root him and lightning him to death. Woo-hoo! I grabbed the pages off him, looted my corpse, hit combine, and now I have a Testament of Vanear. I started this quest one night at 6pm, and was done by 9:15am the next morning. And most of the intervening time was spent sleeping.

So here's my advice to anyone pursuing this quest:

1) Do the Qeynos part first. It's simple, and although I didn't test it, I've heard that the faction hit for killing Dyllin can make Qeynos a dangerous place for you.
2) Keep the Knights that Moodoro gives you, if any. Helps cover the cost if you end up giving him a LOT of gp before you get the Jester.
3) Don't just sit and camp Dyllin. For one thing, as like as not, other people will know the time when he is supposed to spawn. They'll show up just before he appears and steal him from you. Someone explained to me that this was their plan when I was talking to them last night. I warned the people camping Dyllin, and then went on my merry way. If you want to get the spawn to yourself, just log on at non-peak hours. At 9am this morning there were people in the zone, but Dyllin was all mine. If I had missed him this morning, I would have tried again tomorrow morning. Just bind by his spawn site and check back periodically.
4) I've heard varying reports on Dyllin's spawn time, from 6 hours and 45 minutes up to 8 hours. I don't know what is correct.

Good luck to you. And thanks to everyone who has previously given advice on this quest. It helped me out a lot.

If you know your server is going to be down for a patch or maintenance, camp by Dylin the night before. When the server comes back up, log in, and assuming no one else beat you to him, he should be there waiting for you to kill him. That's what I did, and this quest took me less than an hour to complete with my lvl 20 druid.

I never talked to him at all - when I hailed him he told me to bugger off - he conned dubiously. I just gave him the 2gp and he gave me the book then I kept giving him the 4gp for cards.
That Long Camp

It can be a long time camping Dyllin Starsine (not starshine). If you camp him during peak hours, you will have to stick very close to the spawn point to defend it from KSers. During off peak hours you can practice brewing, begging, fishing, pottery and cooking, as all the necessary items and facilities are available nearby. Since you'll probably be the only one in the zone, you can wander away from the spawn point a bit. Ironically, the only smuggler who cares if you attack dyllin is the level 50 one. I Learned that one the hard way.

What is the name of the lvl 50 one and does he always attack you?

He's just another of the smugglers... you can tell who he is by the fact that he cons RED to you. ;)
No Problems

I had no problem completing this quest as a lvl 21 Dwarven Cleric on the Karana server. Solo. Reading the previous peoples info was very helpful, the high level smuggler info was very helpful. Only thing was that Moodoros' card games took me 22 tries to get the jester. Cost me alot of plat ) Rest was easy. I gave Moodoro 2gp and got the book with 2 slots to put pages 30 and 34 into. Oh, and i gave Moodoro the jester card back and he gave me the page for the Testament of Vanerear book. I had to camp Dylinn Starshine for about 7hours and 15 minutes until he spawned under the tarp near the kiln and forge in the smugglers area. I also noticed that the short trail that dead ends facing the Hold is not that far a drop if you get into trouble. If you got a SoW and the smuggler gives you problems you could fall off to the guards or zone with little trouble. He was fairly easy to kill but i had a few fizzles and it was close. Plus a nice cleric hanging around healed me a few times for good measure. My thanks to you good Cleric, i forgot your name sorry!

Read a few more peoples threads like i did, i got all the information i needed in this forum. Hardest part was the 7 hour camp waitin for Dylinn to spawn, easy as pie for lvl 21 cleric.
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 02 2000 at 2:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) THIS QUEST WAS A PIECE OF CAKE ONCE YOU KNOW WHEN THE LAST TIME HE SPAWNED WAS. THE HIGH LEVEL SMUGGLER MADE IT INTESTING ALSO HOPING MY HARMONY SPELL DIDNT WEAR OFF BEFORE I HAD GUARD DEAD.THAT ALONE WAS A HEART PUMPER. GREAT ITEM THOUGH GLAD TO HAVE IT.
