Toresian Fhabel is at location 736.69, 803.53 on the third floor in Erudin Palace. You must have amiable faction with Craftkeepers to do this quest.

You say, 'Hail, Toresian Fhabel'

Toresian Fhabel says 'Welcome, my friend! We are the Craftkeepers. We study the circle of magic called enchantment. What circle do you [study]?'

You say, 'I also study enchantment.'

Toresian Fhabel says 'Then I welcome you into our circle. It is good to see new blood.'

There are 2 versions of Slansin that can spawn:

Slansin is a merchant that will spawn at location 683.85, 577.50 behind the counter of Vials of Vitality on the first floor of the Erudin Palace.
or
Slansin will spawn with a pet at location 683.85, 577.50 behind the counter of Vials of Vitality on the first floor of the Erudin Palace.

You say, 'I wish to assist.'

Toresian Fhabel says 'Ahhhhh ______. Slansin used to have need of those potions, however he mysteriously disappeared long ago. The only person I know of who still wants them is a cleric of the Church of Marr in Freeport.'

Receive Item: Inert Potion.

Now find the merchant version of Slansin:

You say, 'Hail, Slansin'

Slansin says 'Greetings and welcome! Please feel free to look around.'

Give the Inert Potion to Slansin.

Slansin says 'Thank you. I have been expecting this. We require it for mixing.'

Slansin despawns.

If instead you give it to the version of Slansin with a pet:

You say, 'Hail, Slansin'

Slansin says 'Greetings and welcome! Please feel free to look around.'

Give the Inert Potion to Slansin.

Slansin says 'Ha! What a fool! I have stolen another potion to add to the crate. I shall make a fortune! The real Slansin is in back. Now it is time for me to leave.'

Your faction standing with Coalition of Tradefolk Underground has been adjusted by 2.

Your faction standing with Carson McCabe has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Corrupt Qeynos Guards has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with The Freeport Militia has been adjusted by 1.

This Slansin does not despawn after turn-in.

Also you could give it to Serna Tasknon in the Temple of Marr.

Serna Tasknon says, 'I see Tonmerk has found a use for my shark powder. We agreed to this trade when we last met. Unfortunately, I am out of it. If you desire the shark powder you will have to get me three shark bones. I wish you luck. Oh. I also require a payment of ten gold pieces. The taxes in Freeport are fierce.'

Your faction standing with Priests of Marr has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with The Freeport Militia has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with Knights of Truth has been adjusted by 1.
You gain experience!

Incorrect faction?
# Jan 02 2001 at 4:50 PM Rating: Default
How do you know what factions are raised by this? it raised only two and lowered two? SO I am assumming this quest has had its factions changed. Got booted beforeI could right them down the high guard of erudin wasone that lowered.

erudin high council is one that is lowered, that means the bandit, or slansin did not spawn.. that means you got the other guy.
Can Iksar do this quest by going into wolf form?
# Dec 29 2000 at 7:58 AM Rating: Default

This sounds like an awesome quest, so will this quest work in wolf form to really help my Iksar faction out? an answer would be appreciated alot so if anyone can tell me plz do =)

they cant, when you zone into the palace you lose wolf form and will be aggroed, sorry =(
But....
# Jan 12 2001 at 3:42 PM Rating: Default
If you've got help, can someone cast invis on you (which does NOT fall when you zone), then recast wolf form in a safe spot? Or can the erudites see through invis?
RE: But....
# Jan 26 2001 at 6:49 PM Rating: Default
Wolf forms can only be cast outdoors...the castle is indoors, so you can't cast it and can't use it for this quest. You can't even cast SoW indoors, but that won't fade when you zone.
Possible Iksar Solution...

Killing elial affects your faction with the guy you need to turn bones into. Get this faction to the point it's not kos, get an invis... do the bone quest... this 2nd quest affects guard faction.

It will be slow, obviously.

Spawning Slansin!
# Dec 09 2000 at 1:14 PM Rating: Default
I figured out how to spawn Slansin today. It is not 'I follow the way of the craftkeepers'. It is 'I study Enchantment'. Do it a few times to get the right Slansin. The bad faction one will de-spawn when you give him the potion, while the good-faction one will not.

I'm still working on a way to get him upstairs without someone else's help (I'm a paladin not enchanter) though.

Can you attack him, run upstairs, root him and then camp? I know the root duration is short (48 seconds), but maybe you'll get lucky and catch him before he makes it too far...
How to get Slansin to spawn and a question
# Nov 20 2000 at 6:01 PM Rating: Default
Slansin is NOT on a spawn timer. He will spawn (well one of them) if you go to Toresian and
say 'I follow the way of the craftkeepers'.
This will make him spawn.

The question I have is what faction do I have to raise to get Slansin (the theif) to give me faction. He is dubious to me at present.
RE: How to get Slansin to spawn and a question
# Aug 01 2001 at 1:34 PM Rating: Decent
If he's dubious, just keep giving him the potion. After a while, whatever faction he is on will go up to the next level. Rinse, repeat.

Well actually the statment to get Slansin to spawn is "Istudy the way of the craftfeeper."

Everything else is correct and this has been a great help to me.

The quick way, enchanter style
# Nov 01 2000 at 3:59 AM Rating: Default
After reading "THE QUICK WAY" I decided that since I was an enchanter I didn't really need a friend so I charmed Slasin with Cajoling Whispers and had him follow me upstaris. Once I had him right next to Toresian I cast Strip Enchantments to break the charm, at which point Slasin attacked me (imagine that). so I mezed him with Entrance and cast memory blur. Check his faction and I'm his best buddy again. Then, as previously suggested I had hotkeyed "I wish to assist Toresian" and "hail Slasin" so I just targeted Toresian hit hotkey one, then drop the potion on Slasin and hit hotkey 2 to hail him. Maxed my faction in a few minutes.

Read "The Quick Way" post. It has a lot of useful info. But, a few things are different. You do not need a friend... just like in "the quick way, enchanter style" post. Also, a wizard could possibly use this way as they can port, root, and gate like druids. With the "faction bug" removed, you shouldn't need to bother with the Misty Thicket portion of the quest either. For Druids, you'll need to be at least 29th level to do this and a fast machine that takes less than 20ish seconds to zone.

First, bind yourself near Toresian.
Second, create 2 hotbuttons, as so:
1) /target Toresian
/say I wish to assist Toresian
2) /say Hail Slansin
Third, load the following spells... snare, root, Ring of Toxx (or whatever you prefer), and gate.
Fourth, pull Slansin using snare and lure him upstairs (while trying to stay out of his spell range - you will be hit... but, his spells are pitifully weak). Pull him around so he is close to Toresian and root him. Immediately Ring (port) out. As soon as you finish, immediately Gate back.
Fifth, Hit hotbutton 1 and give the potion to Slansin (you don't even need to look at Toresian as long as he is in "hearing" range when you hit hot button 1... All you need in your screen is Slansin). Hit hotbutton 1 about 7-10 times in a row, depending on the speed of your machine, before hitting hot button 2 that makes Slansin stay put and not walk off.
Sixth, repeat step 5 a few thousand times (2 - 3 hours) and you will no longer be KOS!!! This is the fastest way I know of to make faction back with FP Militia and Qeynos Corrupt Guards after going on a killing spree against them :).

Here's the Cleric's version of this technique. Get Slasin to agro and chase you upstairs. Root him at the proper location. Cast Atone. Now begin the "Quick Way".

I haven't tried this yet, but I will tonight.

It's not an exploit to use a charm spell to get an npc to follow you, it's a legitimate effect of the spell. If you were exploiting a pathing bug, or other game-flaw, then yes, but clever utilization of legitimate means is by no means a bannable, or even warning-merited exploit.

I have a negative 53 faction with corrupts.
I then did the inert potion and raised faction by 323. My standing faction is a psoitive 266. So if this is the case, why am I still KOS to corrupts?
If anyone could answer this, or post a link to a web site that explains faction better than, it goes up or it goes down. I would appreciate it.

QUICK WAY<--
# Sep 05 2000 at 7:46 PM Rating: Excellent
This is for upping the qeynos/fp factions, you need to be amiable with the Craftkeepers (Erudin Chanters). Kill Elial Brooks by the docks in erudin (take a right going out of city follow wall/water till you get there). I killed him 10 times (1 hour) and got to warmly.

Make three social keys, put them in slots 1, 2, and 3. Set 1st as: '/target toresian_fhabel00' (without quotes). Second is '/say I wish to assist Toresian'. Third as '/say Hail Slansin'.

Get a newbie to help you, there are two ways to bring Slansin from the Vials of Vitality (1st floor) to the 3rd floor by Toresian. 1st, have the newbie nuke him (don't buff newbie) and run up stairs, dying at your feet. The problem with this is he fears, and then usually won't end up where you want him, unless you get really lucky. The other way is for you to attack him, run up there, root, then zone while the newbie hails him keeping him on the 3rd floor.

Once he's there (pretty close to Toresian, 10 feet max) go to bird's eye view and get him in the lower-left by the hotkeys. Hit Hotkey1 to select Toresian (he must be selected to get the potion), Hit Hotkey2 to get the potion, drop it on Slansin and hit Trade (shouldn't need to move the mouse at all if you line it up right.

After every [6 to be safe, 10 if you're unlagged and quick] potion drops, hit Hotkey 3 to keep Slansin in place. He jumps when leaving, so you don't have a chance to stop him once he decides to go. Giving him potions will not keep him there, you need to hail every once in a while.

Once factions stop going up, you can either quit (assuming you've got the factions you wanted) or do a side-quest to lower the primary faction, allowing all the others to continue rising. Here's an excerpt to fix that problem.

---------
The problem I faced is that I got maximum faction with CoalitionofTradeFolkIll well before I reached dubious with TheFreeportMilitia. The way to know you got maximum faction is that the only faction listed will be CoalitionofTradeFolkIll. Its actually showing an increase but its reached cap.

I needed a way to lower CoalitionofTradeFolkIll. Bit of searching on Allakhazam and I found the perfect quest.

The quest is done in Misty Thicket. The quest is printed below:

-- START QUOTE --
The Honeybugger brother's hand is hurt because he was swarmed by bixies while seeking honeycombs for his employer. Give him a bandage, and he'll thank you with some XP and the following faction: Merchants of Rivervale, Deep pockets, Guardians of the Vale and Mayor Gubbin get better and Coalition of Tradesfolk III get worse.
-- END QUOTE --

The faction changes that occur from this one are:

[Sat Jul 29 19:31:10 200 Your faction standing with MerchantsofRiverVale got better
[Sat Jul 29 19:31:10 200 Your faction standing with Deeppockets got better
[Sat Jul 29 19:31:10 200 Your faction standing with GuardiansoftheVale got better
[Sat Jul 29 19:31:10 200 Your faction standing with MayorGubbin got better
[Sat Jul 29 19:31:10 200 Your faction standing with CoalitionofTradeFolkIll got worse

Every faction goes up except the one we want to go down. How perfect can it be! The lower your faction with MerchantsofRiverVale the better.

Remember, you do the Inert Potion quest first, then do this one. You want to get maximum use of the CoalitionofTradeFolkIll faction.

You'll need around 2000-2500 bandages to get from dubious to maximum warmly. I bought 500 at a time and cost me around 35pp for those 500. Cost of this section probably will be 150pp. Not a big deal.

You can shovel 4 stacks containing 4 bandages to Honeybugger at a time. Gives 16 faction increases per trade. Very fast and effecient. You will want to do this quest until you have maximum warmly faction. You can use the single faction line to tell you have it capped out.

Once you've done that head back to Erudin and do the Inert Potion quest again till you have reached the cap. This will probably require around 600 times.
-----------
Doing these two quests has the following faction consquences:

Increased factions:
CoalitionofTradeFolkIll
CoalitionofTradefolk
CarsonMcCabe
CorruptQeynosGuards
TheFreeportMilitia
MerchantsofRiverVale
Deeppockets
GuardiansoftheVale
MayorGubbin

Decreased factions:
NONE!

Goodluck!

A correction to this post. You do NOT have to have Toresian targeted to get the potion. It does seem like you have to be slightly closer to him if he isn't targeted. Therefore, you should only need one hotkey, /say 'I wish to assist Toresian' and just keep Slansin targeted, hitting 'hail' fairly often to keep him there.

Just an addition to my quick way thingy. Since Verant has now removed the bug where faction won't increase if the primary faction is maxed out, you no longer have to do the sidequests in rivervale because you bottomed out on faction. /praise Verant
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 19 2000 at 6:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You said this was the quick way well it ain't all that quick unless you have a high level druid or wizard (not sure about wizard) Teleport you to MT then tp to Tox forest (i pretty sure but not certain this has a tp ring) that is the fastest way but you need to have a druid or maybe a wizard tp you around. This is because it ain't fun to walk all the way there and back expecially if you low level cus man it sux to go through Kithicor Forest there are high level undeads there are also teir'dal reavers these hurt BAD and also there are dragoons in WC you must watch out for i know this because they have all killed me hehe i am level 9 btw

Umm, you got this wrong, it is fast. You do the quest in Erudin until you've maxed out your faction and then go to Misty. You don't do the Erudin quest and then do the Misty quest and go back to erudin again. So you're technically only going to each location once, which isn't so bad really.

uh WTH is a lvl 9 doing this quest for anyway? If you got yourself KoS in freeport at lvl 9 then you really are a noob. This is to help 40+ characters get their faction abck after perhaps hunting guards or even getting soulfire and such. Good post above very detailed.

Very easy and simple way to be KOS in 5 minutes in Freeport West doing a single mistake as a newbie : Trying to hit Sir Lucan while he's crushed by high leveled doing the Soulfire quest. If the newbie doesn't zone before Lucan dies, BAM! KOS from FPMilitia and Queynos corrupted guards.
It's a bit like : You shoot the president with a water-splitter gun, the president died : you are the killer (Oswald was a Newbie. :p).

Oh yeah, one last thing about that little prick... he LOVES his Fear spell! Watch out! Like I said, even though he was bloody green and I had insane MR, he could Fear me consistantly.
About the two Slansins
# Aug 16 2000 at 6:09 PM Rating: Decent
First of all, the best thing to do to get to amiable with Toresian is (as someone mentioned) to kill Elial Brook. Of course, he's a bit of a brat. My lvl 12 or 13 Cleric took down his pet in one hit, but even though he was 5 or 6 levels below me (he's lvl 7), he could still consistantly cast DoTs and Poisons on me, even with my DR and PR in the 40s, along with MR. Just though I'd point out that he's one tough cookie.

Second, about the two Slansins.

I myself have only seen the "false" one, who is now named simply "Slansin" and resides behind the counter with the other merchants. I tried to kill him at lvl 13, but he messed me up the Enchanter way (debuff, debuff, dd, debuff, debuff, etc.). Nasty fellow! He also must have high AC as I could only do 1 damage to him (even before the debuffs). Funny enough, though, once I DAed myself and ran out of the shop for a bit he seemed to stop following me (?) so I Gated out just in case.

Anyhoo, great quest. Took me about 40 or so potions to the fake Slansin to go from dubious to apprehensive with corrupt Qeynos guards, something sorely needed as we Erudites start off at the beginning with a very touchy dubious faction with them and turning in any gnoll fangs is just begging to be KoS to them. Not fun :(

I tried this quest for several hours this weekend. We never once found the false Slansin. The real Slansin was there, we gave him the potion and we took bad faction with the High Council and the High Erudin Guards. We then had to do much work raising those factions back up to amiable and warmly. The real Slansin disappeared when we gave him the potion, and he respawned as himself when we reactivated the quest. What do you do to get the theif to spawn? I am a paladin with Soulfire and I am desperate to find a way to raise militia faction.

I agree with Oppe Landwalker's findings...

As mentioned, if you are not amiable to Craftkeepers, you can't do the quest. But, you can go to Tox Forest, follow the waterline south until you reach a small dock. There, you can kill Elial Brook (about L8) a few times and improve your Craftkeepers faction (and some others). Note that you will lose faction with Heretics. But, at least this can get you amiable with Toresian, and you can do the quest.

# Jul 27 2000 at 10:47 PM Rating: Decent
OK, this is what I was able to ascertain about this quest. First, you need Amiable in CraftKeepers to initiate it. "I wish to assist toresian" is the quote to get the potion.

Now, there are 2 Slansins. The enchanter in the red robe will give these factions:

+CoalitionofTradeFolkIII, +CoalitionofTradefolk, +CarsonMcCabe, +CorruptQeynosGuards, +TheFreeportMilitia

Nice stuff. He states "Now it is time for me to leave" but he doesn't.

If you get the real Slansin he will look like a regular merchant. I killed the imposter to get the real to spawn. Took about 2 hours. When you give him the potion you get:

+CraftKeepers, -HighCouncilofErudin, +Heretics, -HighGuradsofErudin

He disappears when you give it to him. Sounds like they have their quest a little backwards. Unless they read this post I'm not going to tell them. =P

# Jul 09 2000 at 4:51 PM Rating: Decent
Rarely the "real" Slansin will spawn and he'll con amiable to you (Erudite Enchanter). When you give this Slansin the potion he thanks you and you get some xps, minor coin, and faction gains with the Craftkeepers and Heretics but faction hits to HighCouncilofErudin and HighGuardofErudin. Strange but true.
Does NOT raise Crimson Hands
# Jul 02 2000 at 6:33 PM Rating: Decent
I am a 4th level enchanter, with indifferent Crimson Hands. This quest does NOT raise Crimson Hands when you give it to the real Slansin.

So note that you cannot do this quest to raise Crimson Hands in order to do Servant's Staff. Note that Josper Kenshed will NOT give the Servant Staffs quest if you are indifferent.

Also, there doesn't appear to be a Gate Bandit anymore. I did this quest several times, and all that would happen is a different Slansin would spawn, who would take the Inert Potion and say something about stealing it and that the real Slansin was back. This would cause the negative faction raises (Corrupt Qeynos Guards, etc)
GREAT Faction!!!
# Jun 30 2000 at 6:23 PM Rating: Decent
For those of you that can start this faction, I myself, an Erudite Paladin, have no problem. But for those of you that hate being KoS in Freeport before you complete your Soulfire quest, this is the best quest I can think of to raise Freeport Milita Faction. It all takes place in ONE zone, and takes zero money and Zero killing. Just alot of running. You don't have to go though all the talks with Toresian, just repeat the quest by saying... "I wish to assist Toresian." You can do this quest a few hundred times if you want. It may get boring, but EQ isn't always fun and games now is it? =) -Emm
