Toresian Fhabel is at location 736.69, 803.53 on the third floor in Erudin Palace. You must have amiable faction with Craftkeepers to do this quest.

You say, 'Hail, Toresian Fhabel'

Toresian Fhabel says 'Welcome, my friend! We are the Craftkeepers. We study the circle of magic called enchantment. What circle do you [study]?'

You say, 'I also study enchantment.'

Toresian Fhabel says 'Then I welcome you into our circle. It is good to see new blood.'

There are 2 versions of Slansin that can spawn:

Slansin is a merchant that will spawn at location 683.85, 577.50 behind the counter of Vials of Vitality on the first floor of the Erudin Palace.
Slansin will spawn with a pet at location 683.85, 577.50 behind the counter of Vials of Vitality on the first floor of the Erudin Palace.

You say, 'I wish to assist.'

Toresian Fhabel says 'Ahhhhh ______. Slansin used to have need of those potions, however he mysteriously disappeared long ago. The only person I know of who still wants them is a cleric of the Church of Marr in Freeport.'

Receive Item: Inert Potion.

Now find the merchant version of Slansin:

You say, 'Hail, Slansin'

Slansin says 'Greetings and welcome! Please feel free to look around.'

Give the Inert Potion to Slansin.

Slansin says 'Thank you. I have been expecting this. We require it for mixing.'

Your faction standing with High Council of Erudin has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with Heretics has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with High Guard of Erudin has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience!!

Slansin despawns.

If instead you give it to the version of Slansin with a pet:

You say, 'Hail, Slansin'

Slansin says 'Greetings and welcome! Please feel free to look around.'

Give the Inert Potion to Slansin.

Slansin says 'Ha! What a fool! I have stolen another potion to add to the crate. I shall make a fortune! The real Slansin is in back. Now it is time for me to leave.'

Your faction standing with Coalition of Tradefolk Underground has been adjusted by 2.
Your faction standing with Coalition of Tradefolk has been adjusted by 2.
Your faction standing with Carson McCabe has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Corrupt Qeynos Guards has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with The Freeport Militia has been adjusted by 1.

This Slansin does not despawn after turn-in.

Also you could give it to Serna Tasknon in the Temple of Marr.

Serna Tasknon says, 'I see Tonmerk has found a use for my shark powder. We agreed to this trade when we last met. Unfortunately, I am out of it. If you desire the shark powder you will have to get me three shark bones. I wish you luck. Oh. I also require a payment of ten gold pieces. The taxes in Freeport are fierce.'

Your faction standing with Priests of Marr has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with The Freeport Militia has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with Knights of Truth has been adjusted by 1.
You gain experience!

What Now?
# Aug 23 2001 at 12:13 PM Rating: Default
Ok raised faction with the potion and the right Slansin....conned 'ready to attack' and said 'I will do nothing to aid beings like you' after I handed him the potion. Anyone know how to raise faction with Slansin so he will give faction for fp militia?

About the best you can do in this situation is this: If you have the sneak skill, use that to get indifferent with Slansin. If not, you need someone to invis you each time you turn in the vial.

So I was trying to fix my faction at WFP by using the tactic listed in the posts (pulling up Slanis). It was working really well, with the marcro thing going and such, until a lowbie walked in and started getting hammered by Slanis.

Well, shortly after a Guild pops in and asks us to stop. A GM wasn't around to confirm if what we were doing was illegal or not, but the reasons that were given to stop was it was spamming the zone and displacing potential KOS characters in "safe areas".

These arguments were reasonable - though not completely convincing. For one thing, Slanis spawns in a "safe area", a merchant store. The spamming i can understand.

You may want clarification from your local server's GM to see if the tactic is illegal or not.

pisser is i'm still scowling in wfp.

What I did was get a newbie to pull Toresian back to Slansin. Toresian doesn't really cast that much. Its a lot better that way since you're not spamming out in the open. And if someone's KoS to Toresian, they shouldn't be in Erudin Palace in the first place.

But it wasn't Toresian that was hammering the newbie - it was the fake Slansin. The fake Slansin is on the "Coalition of Tradesfolk Illegal" faction, which is not one that would be expected to be found in Erudin Palace - it's the Freeport rogue faction. This is the kind of thing that Verant considers an "exploit" and doesn't like - but I think it's a masterful use of the game's complexity. I haven't tried pulling Slansin up to the third floor, but it sounds like a good way to be able to walk EFP/WFP again for my Paladin char after he offs that evil, evil Militia captain.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 11 2001 at 8:52 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well, it seems that now ALL the quests you have to be better than apprehensive to do them, which really makes it suck for all the faction quests. I am so sick of the ******** who decide "policy" at VI ******** us over in chicken **** ways like this i could just scream. I hope they all die in a nasty car wreck. So now I have to go camp frigging Eliyas Brooks at the dock to get my faction up to even DO this quest!
Inert Potion Quest

This Quest is really easy once you figure out how to do it. My husband(lvl 7 bard) and I (lvl 23 druid) helped out with a Lucan raid and bacame KOS in FP, so we started this quest to try to raise faction it is taking a while avg. of 2 hours so far but found out it will take about 18 hours which isnt real bad if you know how to do it. I the druid snared the bandit and pulled him up stairs by the guy you get the potion from and rooted him ran around the corner and camped out to clear aggro while my husband hailed him to keep him there. when I came back I made hot keys 1 that says /target Toresian on 1 line and on next line I wish to assist Toresian. Then made another hot key that said on the 1st line /target Slansin and on next line Hail then i would give him the potion as long as he is hailed every now and then he will stay but if you stop he will despawn. Did this quest probably fifty times last night (probably more). There's no second Slansin, only the guy refered to here as the "gate bandit". There's also no bad faction hits when you give it to the fake guy. You just get the faction increses with the militia and guys like that. The only problem is, I probably have to do this quest a hundred more times to get off of scowling with the militia guys (even with illusions). I don't think they like that I've killed Reskin or Tolus a lot. (If I can get off scowling at all, but the guys in North Freeport love my Dark Elf Chanter for it, so really no big loss in my book)
# Jul 18 2001 at 5:14 AM Rating: Default
here is how to make the slansin you need for faction to spawn say to toresian 'i study the way of the craftkeeper' then say 'i study enchantment' the second phrase is the spawn trigger the first phrase makes the slansin that u need for freeport militia faction spawn on the trigger phrase. thats how it happened for me. good luck.

Ok ppl I have read just about all the replys from ppl in this section and did what most did. This quest rocks. I fixed my FP guard AND merchant faction doing this quest for 3-4 fours after assisting in the pally epic to kill the guard. All you do is say to toresian "I study enchantment" then "I wish to assist toresian". Thats it. The guy in the lower floor you give poition to looks just like toresian as far as the cloths. Ok now to do this quest fast bribe a chanty to charm slasian and place him next to toresian. Then when hes there in the right spot hail him. Now make a hot key saying "I wish to assist toresian" and another hot key called /target toresian. Now all you have to do is hit your target key then the words key and give slansian a potion. then hail him after each potion. EASY. I can turn in about 1000 of them in an hour. The talk about having to turn in 8000 to 80000 is SO WRONG. Do this quest of clicking for about 3-4 hours and you are dubious. GL

I have checked a couple of times since the patch and waited for about an hour, but Slansin did not show up. Has anyone else seen him since the patch on June 26?

Edit - nm, just had to trigger him by saying the phrase "I study enchantment" to Toresian. Got the "real" Slansin three times, then got the "fake" Slansin and spent 3 hours (after 2 hours spent earlier and still scowling) and got faction from scowling to indifferent.

You will have to do this quest a LOT in order to raise your faction from KOS to the militia to something as low as dubious. Reading various message boards, it can take upwards of 8000 potions to become dubious with the freeport militia. I've heard the number 80000 thrown around for what it would take to get up to warmly.

Another person said that having done the quest for four and a half hours, they were able to get their faction back up to a reasonable level.

Just depends on what kind of time investment you're looking at.

Coalition of Tradesfolk raised
Coalition of Tradesfolk III raised
Carson McCabe raised
Corrrupt Qeynos Guards raised

Guess that by giving the potion to the REAL Slansin you would:

Crimson Hands raised
High Council of Erudin lowered
High Guard of Erudin lowered

didn't see the REAL Slansin to know for sure.

The bones part to get good faction quick isnt working anymore, upon giving the bones you now get the following faction adjustments:
Gatecallers got better
HighGuardofErudin got better
HighCouncilofErudin got better
Heretics got worse

Dragged Slansin upstairs using Charm. Had Newbie hail him while gated to bind point just outside Palace. Ran back in, ran upstairs, took over hailing Slansin and started to do rapid transfer of Vial. Had "I wish to assist Toresian" hotkeyed ect. Did the quest @ 100X. Got a port from guildmate to Nro, went and checked /con to guard near inn in Nro-still wants my backside on a platter. Gated back to Erudin, used charm again to drag Slansin upstairs, had to root-gate-rezone to get him to stay there (for some reason I didnt trust my memory blur to keep his aggro wiped, but thinking about it I am sure it would), then hailed him and did the quest another 50+ times. At this point it was getting very late so I logged. The "Slansin" I was doing quest with was wearing redish-brown robes (looked alot like Toresian) and gave faction with: CoalitionofTradesFolkIll, CoalitionofTradesfolk, CarsonMcCabe, QeynosCorruptGuards, and FreePortMiltia. No negative faction.
Also-Elial (the Erudite Necro by the dock) is still giving positive factin with DWKnights, but not sure about the "bones" quest in Mage Guild.
Just thought a recent update might help. Hopefully my logging off registered lots of good faction changes to the corrupts so I will no longer be KOS in FP :)

After assisting a friend with the soulfire, I am also kos in wfp I spent over an hour killing Elial Brook to raise faction with Toresian, (he now cons warmly) I ran the quest 5 hours ( not knowing to bring Slasin up, doh) Slasin is indiffernt to me. My faction according to my screen went up everytime, however the wfp guards still con ready to attack.

You tell him, "I study enchantment". Then he'll say that he needs some help running an errand. You tell him, "I wish to assist Toresian" and he gives you the inert potion. All this is provided your faction is high enough. Killing the heretic necromancer Elial Brook at the dock in the Tox forest can raise your faction with Toresian if he doesn't like you enough to give you the potion yet.

Verant strikes again. Upon giving the bottle to Slansin, you will now receive negative factions with HighConcilofErudin and HighGardofErudin. The latter is not very healthy since there is usually a gard next to Slansin.

Nope, now its the merchant in plain clothes who is always there NOT the guy who looks like toresian.

The merchant guy in plain clothes LOWERS high guard and council and RAISES heretics when giving him the potion.

Oddly enough, he does the same thing when you kill him.. so that is also no good.

So you don't get all those good factions anymore.. only a person wanting to raise heretics would do this quest but they'd soon be kos I think.
# Mar 28 2001 at 7:13 PM Rating: Default
Not nerfed, you just had the wrong Slansin. There are two different Slansin's, one is the "real" one (a merchant in plain clothes), the other is thebandit (dressed much like Toresian)
The bandit one is the one that gives the plus faction to the "bad guards"
Iksar monk success story
# Mar 12 2001 at 8:28 PM Rating: Default
I came in as a level 51 Iksar monk. All involved parties conned threatening or worse to begin with.

First step was raising faction with Toresian. I used the Elial Brook approach, killing him a total of 45 times. In addition, I camped skeletons in the Paineel newbie zone, killing Noclin Saah some 20 or 30 times while filling 6 bags with bone chips. I also managed to kill the diseased shark and six spawned young sharks. This took me to "kindly" with all three casters guilds and the paladins (Deepwater Knights).

I was still "threatening" with the guards (High Guards). Turning in the 45 bones from Elial fixed that problem, bringing me to dubious with the guards. I also ran the servant's staff 6 times, turning in 36 goblin ice necklaces harvested from whelps in Everfrost.

For the bone turn in at the top of the mage tower, I used the standard Iksar monk approach, sneaking behind the quest target and feigning off the helpers as needed.

With Toresian at "kindly" and the guards at "dubious" I was able to use the quick way, dragging Slansin up to Toresian. I was able to hail Slansin, facing him away and then sneak behind to do the quest turn in. Once Slansin was at "threatening" I could do the quest turn in without sneaking.

Since I had done the bandaid quest in Rivervale, my starting faction with Slansin was incredibly bad. Nonetheless, I'm "warmly" now.

Raising Slansin Faction
# Feb 26 2001 at 4:59 PM Rating: Default
Slansin's faction is directly based off your Coalition of Tradefolk Illegal faction. Slansin needs to con at least dubious for you to do the inert potion quest. I raised my faction with slansin by doing the bent card quest for the circle of unseen hands in qeynos. =)
Correct, easy way to do this.
# Jan 27 2001 at 9:08 PM Rating: Excellent

In short... I goto erudin to con
Toresian Fahbel, the inert potion
questgiver and the guy i want to impress.

I am Dubious, and when hailed he tells me
i am lucky to still
be standing there alive.

Rats, need CraftKeeper faction. (erudite
enchanters) I leave
erudin, head to toxx forest.

Once i zone to toxx, i hug the right
wall until i reach the beach. turning
left, i follow the beach a few hundred
yards to the Kerra Isle docks. There i
find a erudite named Elial Brook, 5th
level paineel necromancer with less
than 100 hit points. Slay him for these
faction hits.

Factions Raised-
Craft Keepers
Crimson Hands
Deepwater Knights
Gate Callers

Factions lowered
Heretics of Paineel

Elial Brook is a 5 minute spawn and
will drop one Bone piece (not chip) at
every death. SAVE THESE, THEY STACK.

After accumulating 15-17 Bones, (for dubious)
head inside to the third floor of the
castle, to Toresian Fhabel once again.
Directly beside him is the Mage guild,
with a sign on it that says \"Tower of
the Gatecallers\". Proceed to the very
top of that tower, where you will find
the mage Guildmaster Markus Jaevins. He
gives a quest requiring you to hunt
down a escaped prisoner, (Elial) and
return his remains.

Give him One Bone at a time for these
faction hits.

Factions Raised:
Craft Keepers
Crimson Hands
Deepwater Knights
Gate Callers
High Counsel of Erudin
High Guard of Erudin

Again you will notice Craftkeepers
faction has been raised. Go down the
tower and /con Toresian Fahbel in front
of the mage guild. At amiable he will
give you the quest.

the quest itself is simple and can be
done pretty fast with a sow. Make one
hotkey with \"i wish to assist Toresian\"
as the main line and start playing
Gofer between the first and third
floors of the castle.

On the first floor you will find the
magic shop \"Vials of Vitality\". Inside
is a merchant named Slansin, who is a
spy for carson mcabe. He was
indifferent to me even tho i am low
dubious to carson, freeport, and corrupt q's.

Turn in the inert potion lore item that toresian
gave you for these yummy hard to get
faction hits.

Factions Raised:
Carson McCabe
Coalition of Trade Folk
Coalition of Tradefolk Illegal
Corrupt Qeynos Guards
Crimson Hands
Freeport Militia
High Counsel of Erudin
High Guard of Erudin

Factions lowered-

Takes me 20 seconds to turn in one potion with scale of wolf on.

I was doing this quest to become not kos anymore in Freeport( ever since I took a faction hit for helping kill Sir Lucan).
Being a lvl 60 Erudite, I already had good faction with the quest giver. The Slasin that gives the freeport militia faction conned Threateningly to me. I ran this quest straight for about 2 and a half hours without seeing one faction adjustment happen in Slasin( he stayed at threat the whole time). I got the faction messages each time I turned in the potions though.
Maybe I was not getting the faction that I was being told that I was, or maybe it takes longer to raise faction through this quest than I thought.

You rock!

Thanks, although I had good enough faction with Toresian to do this myself, some friends didn't and we had no idea how to fix that problem. You have redeemed them.

Also, a minor nit -- the factions you list for doing the Potion quest are the raises you get from BOTH versions of Slansin, but you list them together as if this quest gave all those raises each time. They don't. You get 5 faction increases from one version of Slansin, and a different 4-5 from the other version.

Nice to know how to get the faction up fast - thx )

If you have a nice monk (or caster) friend do this:

Get the monk/caster to attack Slansin, don't kill him just pull him up to Toresian then FD. Casters just root then zone.
This makes it nice and fast for those potions)

I attacked him once and dragged him round the zone to see who would aggro. There was NO aggro from anyone else. This may have been changed though.

When I tried to do this quest, Toresian gave me the bottle and I took it down to Slansin and gave it to him. However the ONLY faction increases I got were:
High Counsel of Erudin
High Guard of Erudin
Crimson Hands

I did NOT get faction raise for Corrupt Qeynos Guards or The Freeport Militia or any of the others listed on this quest review.

Movover, once I gave Slansin the vial, he disappeared and did not respawn when I went up for another bottle. I waited about an hour for him to spawn but then left in disgust.

There are two Slansins.

If you have the one in light colored clothes with a staff, give him the potion and he will disappear. Go back up stairs and tell Toresian "I study enchantment" again and he will respawn.

Sometimes I had to do this several times before the one in dark red-brown clothes (the one you want) appears.

A friend had the same problem--I think Slansin scowled at her. She clicked on him with the bottle in hand to bring up the trade window, then I made her invisible and she hit trade. This temporarily gave her indifferent faction to complete the quest. It only works if you have someone else there to cast the invis on you though, since you can't cast in the middle of a trade (and it's the first step, initially clicking on someone with an object in hand, that cancels invis).

This required Slansin to be green enough that he didn't attack her, of course. I suppose he could mezzed if necessary, though if you can do that you should also be able to charm him and get the temporary faction that way, I think.

It worked as of a couple months ago, haven't tested it lately...

I have the same problem with Toresian. He tells me "I am lucky to still be standing" and orders me awayfrom him. Have you figured out how to taise your faction with Toresian yet? If so, please let me know.

you dont get any xp at level 20 either, thats just the way it is. the faction is there, and slansin is aligned with the merchants in freeport. so whatever slansin cons, thats how the merchants in freeport will con.
