Toresian Fhabel is at location 736.69, 803.53 on the third floor in Erudin Palace. You must have amiable faction with Craftkeepers to do this quest.

You say, 'Hail, Toresian Fhabel'

Toresian Fhabel says 'Welcome, my friend! We are the Craftkeepers. We study the circle of magic called enchantment. What circle do you [study]?'

You say, 'I also study enchantment.'

Toresian Fhabel says 'Then I welcome you into our circle. It is good to see new blood.'

There are 2 versions of Slansin that can spawn:

Slansin is a merchant that will spawn at location 683.85, 577.50 behind the counter of Vials of Vitality on the first floor of the Erudin Palace.
or
Slansin will spawn with a pet at location 683.85, 577.50 behind the counter of Vials of Vitality on the first floor of the Erudin Palace.

You say, 'I wish to assist.'

Toresian Fhabel says 'Ahhhhh ______. Slansin used to have need of those potions, however he mysteriously disappeared long ago. The only person I know of who still wants them is a cleric of the Church of Marr in Freeport.'

Receive Item: Inert Potion.

Now find the merchant version of Slansin:

You say, 'Hail, Slansin'

Slansin says 'Greetings and welcome! Please feel free to look around.'

Give the Inert Potion to Slansin.

Slansin says 'Thank you. I have been expecting this. We require it for mixing.'
Your faction standing with Craftkeepers has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with High Council of Erudin has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with Heretics has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with High Guard of Erudin has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience!!

Slansin despawns.

If instead you give it to the version of Slansin with a pet:

You say, 'Hail, Slansin'

Slansin says 'Greetings and welcome! Please feel free to look around.'

Give the Inert Potion to Slansin.

Slansin says 'Ha! What a fool! I have stolen another potion to add to the crate. I shall make a fortune! The real Slansin is in back. Now it is time for me to leave.'

Your faction standing with Coalition of Tradefolk Underground has been adjusted by 2.
Your faction standing with Coalition of Tradefolk has been adjusted by 2.
Your faction standing with Carson McCabe has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Corrupt Qeynos Guards has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with The Freeport Militia has been adjusted by 1.

This Slansin does not despawn after turn-in.

Also you could give it to Serna Tasknon in the Temple of Marr.

Serna Tasknon says, 'I see Tonmerk has found a use for my shark powder. We agreed to this trade when we last met. Unfortunately, I am out of it. If you desire the shark powder you will have to get me three shark bones. I wish you luck. Oh. I also require a payment of ten gold pieces. The taxes in Freeport are fierce.'

Your faction standing with Priests of Marr has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with The Freeport Militia has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with Knights of Truth has been adjusted by 1.
You gain experience!

Well. Just happened across Slansin at his old spot in Vials of Vitality... so I ran upstairs to get an inert potion. Of course, Toresian claimed Slansin no longer needed it, but... I just thought I'd try...

Slansin says, "Thank you. I have been expecting this. We require it for mixing." and despawns...
Craftkeepers got WORSE
High Council of Erudin got WORSE
Heretics got better, but was maxed, yippee skip.
High Guard of Erudin got WORSE

Uhh. Yeah. So let's be careful out there. At least it doesn't look like they're big hits.

Now Toresian says that a priest of Marr in freeport need it. It's Serna Taskanon.

Freeport Militia got worse Smiley: banghead

The Slansin you need to do this quest can still be spawned by saying "I study enchantment" to Toresian.

I tested and confirmed this several days ago.

Well, the "real" Slansin, not the one you want for this quest, can still be there in the palace basement. He doesn't have a pet - the one you want has a pet (a low-level Enchanter pet).

If he is there, there is nothing that you can do with Toresian to replace him with the "imposter" Slansin, who is the one you want.

If the "real" Slansin is up, get the potion from Toresian and give it to him - he will despawn. Then zhmoozo's advice is correct - the phrase "I study enchantment" does spawn the right Slansin.

Quest still is there, with the same faction raises..seems they just changed the text somewhat.

+ Coalition of Tradefolk Underground
+ Coalition of Tradefolk
+ Carson McCabe
+ Corrupt Qeynos Guards
+ Freeport Militia

the only change I see is perhaps a name change for Coalition of Tradesfolk Illegal. Maybe because a lot of people seemed to think the abbreviation was III instead of Ill.

It appears that the nerf bat has finally struck a fatal blow to this quest.

Now, when asked about the potion, Toresian replies:

"Ahhhhh, <your name>. Slansin used to have need of those potions, however he mysteriously disappeared long ago. The only person I know of who still wants them is a cleric of the Church of Marr in Freeport."

Sigh.. now, Sony, if you give us a PRACTICAL way to raise these factions, maybe it will be less a slap in the face to have taken this away from us...

Actually, I thought the same thing too, but just in case I went downstairs and Slansin was STILL there.

Maybe the final nerf bat will be swung on this quest with the release of Legacy of Ykesha, certainly it looks that way, but until then do this quest while you can!

as of 12-16-02, to quickly sum up the important stuff...
you can max these factions relatively easily with this quest:
Coalition of Tradefolk Underground
Coalition of Trade Folk
Carson McCabe
Corrupt Qeynos Guards
Freeport Militia

you need to be above indifferent with Toresian.
make a single social that has
/target toresian
/say i wish to assist toresian

make it a hotkey and bind this hotkey with your 'j' key.
tell toresian "i study enchantment"
go down, tag slansin and bring him up next to toresian, then get him to stay there while you clear agro.
go up to him, press j and give potion, move the give box so its on top of him and move your cursor so when you hand him potion it will be right on top of the give button, so you dont have to move your mouse. then press j, click click, j click click, j click click etc, and every once in a while click 'h' to hail slansin, and make sure he responds so he wont walk away. you could add the hailing slansin to your j hotkey, but it produces more lag, and slows down the process overall.

to get slansin up there originally, you can do many things like root him, and log off and back on, have a friend bring him up and root him then you hail him while your friend leaves, or have an enchanter memory blur him after you bring him up. its not hard with most any casting class friend, or if you're casting class your friend can keep him hailed so he doesnt move while you leave.

after 45 minutes of this, slansin went from apprehensively considering me to considering me as an ally.

Seriously folks, this quest works exactly as Monual posted and still works to date. I only got the wrong Slansin once and he despawned as soon as I turned in the potion. I put in another hour and got to threatening, (still kos) another hour should do it and it gives all kinds of great faction. This is the best faction quest to date IMHO. Thanks for the info.

Yes, just do the quest more.

One thing I didn't mention is that before I did this quest, I had done some work with gnoll and orc scalps in HH and left goblin ears in HK. So I had a minor head start on Freeport Militia faction.

Go back and keep handing in potions. Yes, it's boring as heck. But I bet just one more hour of clicking will get you non-KOS; you should be pretty close, now that you've maxed your Coalition of Traders faction.

factions mentioned above are incorect. I did the quest today with FAkE Slanish and got folowing:

Carson McCabe
Coalition of Trade Folk
Corrupt Qeynos Guards
Freeport Militia

all these went positive.

NOTE: its Coalition of Trade Folk
NOT Coalition of Trade Folk Illigal, which is kind of confusing cuase all other 3 factiosn related to thives/corupted guards/smuglers

Yes... Go to North Freeport and Kill any and all guards you can find. They are Paladins and LoH Greater Heal and similar devices for there level. They are cake for a 50+ melee and would probably be a pushover for root kiters and pet kiters. Could also charm kite since some guards are 45 and some are as low as 35 (the wandering ones that is.) Charm a 45 one and just let him tear the lower ones a new one.

I helped a pally kill Lucan, and was therefore KOS in EFP and WFP. This is what I did to get my Freeport Militia faction back up:

Killed heretics - the one at the dock and the one in the newbie field in Paineel. Only took a couple dozen kills of each to get my faction up to indifferent or amiable throughout Erudin. Thus I was able to get the potion from Toresian.

Slansin scowled at me, though, and wouldn't give me any faction adjustments after I gave him the potion. So I went to Rivervale and did the carrot quest for a couple of hours. WARNING: this will mean that the Rivervale merchants won't sell to you anymore, but that's not a big concern to me. Everyone else in Rivervale will like you more.

I went back to Erudin, and to my dismay Slansin *still* scowled at me. Yet, this time he accepted the potion and gave the faction adjustments. I guess there's a level within "scowls" where the quest will begin to function.

There was still the matter of positioning Slansin. I attacked him, ran up to Toresian, waited for Slansin to get within melee range (takes a while, he keeps trying to cast from a distance) and then cast Atone. He calmed down, and I was able to use the dual-hotkey method mentioned below (/tar tor, /say I wish to assist; /tar slan, /say Hail).

You do, indeed, need to max out your faction with Coalition of Tradefolk and Coalition of Tradefolk Underground before you're non-KOS to Militia of Freeport. I tried going back after getting Kindly to Slansin and was still KOS in WFP and EFP. Altogether, this took me three or four hours of handing potions to Slansin.

At the end, you'll be ally to everyone in the evil tunnels and dubious to the guards, which means you'll be able to go *anywhere* in EFP and WFP without fear. And since I am still on good faction with the NFP folks, that means Freeport in general is now my oyster. ^_^

When I say "I wish to assist Toresian" he threatens me with something like "You are lucky that I don't rip out your eyes and pee on your brain." (well maybe not those words) So I am back at the dock killing the Necro. Took me five kills to get from dubious to apprehensive with Toresian, so will try another five. Coincidently, the DOCK NECRO is STILL amiable to me. (I did a lot of work in the Warrens)

I am a 51st Paladin trying to get my Freeport Militia faction back up, so I tried this quest. For the most part the information I've found here is correct, except for one part..that part of the "evil Slansin" being on Coalition of Tradesfolk Illegal faction. I have raised my faction upto Kindly with the Coalition Illegal and when I con the Evil Slansin I get the message "scowls at you, ready to attack". This is the same thing it said when I originally tried to do this quest prior to raising my faction with Coalition of Tradesfolk Illegal. Evil Slansin has to be on a different faction, however I haven't figured out which one he truely is on.

This post may seem at first a bit off topic, but I'll share anyway. When doing a quest like this where you have to repeat an action dozens, hundreds, or (gasp) thousands of times, stamina is crucial to your success (and I don't mean your character's stamina). You need to get yourself a couple diversions to keep yourself going. At the very least, plug in some good tunes in the CD player. Another good thing you can do (especially when doing a city zone quest) is auction some items you always wanted to sell, but didn't have the patience to sit in EC for hours to get the best price. You'll be here for a long time anyway, so you might as well make some money while doing it. Keep up the fight, my paladin brothers - good shall prevail in the end.

# Feb 28 2002 at 5:10 AM Rating: Decent
Quest is working.

Both slansin's spawn randomly. I found I got 2 or 3 real slansin's for each fake one.

Trigger to spawn a 'slansin' is saying I study enchantment to Toresian.

You can still drag him to 3rd floor and hail him to make him stand there. Hailing only works if you are in front of him and in trading distance.

I ahve done this about 3000 or so times as an Iksar and mave maxed the first 4 factions and gotten back to Dubious after whacking Sir Luclan.

Using the hotkey technique I got my 2000 or so FP guard hits in about 2 hours.
Quest broken?
# Feb 07 2002 at 3:15 PM Rating: Decent
I took a bard to the palace to work on my Freeport faction. I drug the fake Slansin up a few levels and had the bard charm him so I could turn the potions in. I turned a few in and had him say his "You fool! Blah blah blah!" line but I recieved no faction hits good or otherwise. I know it was the fake Slansin because no one assisted him as he was charmed ect ect.

I'll try it again, soon, with a chanter but I fear that the quest involving the fake Slansin may have been broken because it was an easy way to get both good and evil Freeport factions up wich VI clearly dosn't want to happen.

Perhaps I am stuck with the Highpass lines of quests.... wich take FOREVER.

When you charm an NPC to do a quest you will get the reward but none of the faction for doing it. In this case the faction is the reward so you dont get anything.

There are two types Slansin as the QUEST says. Sometimes the real one spawns, and in which case you'll get positive with the heratics and craftkeepers, negative to Erudin guards and one other I can't remember. Keep doing the quest and eventually the evil one will spawn. The evil one's eyelashes are dark black and very visible and the evil one is on a different faction.

Well, that depends on your actual faction rating with the Freeport Militia. If you're close enough now, you could go from apprehensive to indifferent by doing this quest only once; if you're not that close, it will take more. Faction adjustments with this quest are fairly small; I did this quest fifty times yesterday (yes, I counted ;-)) and my Militia faction is still apprehensive, and my Corrupt Qeynos Guards faction (the real reason I was doing the quest) is still dubious. However, it appears to work as advertised - I got the message indicating faction adjustments, and will soon return to Erudin Palace to do this another fifty times or so to prevent being KOS in Qeynos (I've offed too many bad guys, it seems).

When i turn in the vial he says "i will do nothing to aid beings like you". even if im invis he wont do it. what gives? how do i fix faction with slansin enough to turn the vials in?

Not only does Slansin wander back to his spawn point upon losing aggro but, to my dismay, he also sees invis. If you are not dubious+ and are unable to sneak, this quest is not completable. Very very dissapointing that I have to get non kos to even do this. I'll post something if I ever find an easy way to get Trakesfolk Ill up without horrid ammounts of time spent.

The Definitive Guide to Using this Quest to FIX Freeport Mil
# Nov 02 2001 at 4:48 PM Rating: Excellent

I apologize for the length of this post, but I thought people might appreciate all of the correct information in one post from someone who has done this quest to fix Freeport Militia faction AFTER KILLING LUCEN (we’re talking bad, bad KoS faction).

This quest occurs in the ‘palace’ or ‘center’ zone of Erudin. It requires you to be non-KoS there, and have at least apprehensive faction with the NPC Toresian Fhabel (Craft Keepers faction), and dubious faction with the NPC Slansin (Coalition of Trade Folk Illegal faction)(you trigger his spawn at the beginning of this quest). If you need to raise faction with either of these two NPC’s, there are easy quests that you can do that are covered elsewhere in Alakhazam.

Note also that this is only the first part of a larger quest, which can lead to some confusion if you trigger a later part, given duplicate NPC names, etc. Do not panic. This quest works perfectly well as of Nov 2, 2001, so if you are having problems check each step carefully and I’m sure it will work. At any rate, on with the quest:

On the third floor of the Erudin palace, Toresian Fhabel is waiting for someone to take an inert potion down to Vials of Vitality, on the first floor of the palace, and give it to a NPC named Slansin. Unfortunately, there is a spy who has taken the REAL Slansin’s place, and he will steal Toresian’s potion and sell it for cash. When you give Toresian’s potion to this FAKE Slansin, he will laugh in your face and you will get the following faction adjustments:

Coalition of Tradefolk raised
Coalition of Tradefolk Ill raised (short for Coalition of Tradefolk Illegal)
Carson McCabe raised
Corrrupt Qeynos Guards raised
Freeport Militia raised

Now the quest normally continues by you killing the FAKE Slansin, at which point the REAL Slansin will spawn, you go up, get another potion, give it to the REAL Slansin, and everyone is happy. However, we don’t want to kill the FAKE Slansin at all, we just want to keep giving him potions all day long until all of his buddies LOVE us. The trick is to get the FAKE Slansin up on the third floor, standing right next to Toresian, so you can take the potion directly from Toresian and hand it to FAKE Slansin. So here is how we do it.

First, program two macro keys so that one says “/target Toresian” and the other says “I wish to assist Toresian”. If possible put these two macro buttons in your on-screen menu bar so that they can be triggered by hitting the “9” and “0” keys.

Step One: Walk up to Toresian and tell him “I study enchantment”. He’ll say he needs help with an errand. Hit your “0” key, which should trigger the macro “I wish to assist Toresian”. This should cause Toresian to hand you an inert potion to run down and give to Slansin. This sequence ALSO triggers the FAKE Slansin spawn.

Step Two: Have an assistant run down to the Vials of Vitality shop and pull the fake Slansin up to the third floor right next to Toresian. FAKE Slansin is a caster of about level 15 or so and does not damage too much, so it is easy enough to do. I actually did this stage with a level one newby char that had ‘skin like nature’ cast on him, so he had about 300 hit points, and the newby was always able to pull Slansin up to the proper area before being killed. There are many ways to pull Slansin up without getting killed (and without Slansin killing you). Make sure that Slansin is positioned within hailing distance of Toresian.

Step Three: Hail Slansin. This will freeze Slansin in place for about one minute. Have your puller either die or gate to clear aggro. Slansin should now be standing placidly next to Toresian. Each time you hail Slansin he should respond with a phrase along the line of “Welcome to the shop, have a look around”.

Step Four: Hand Slansin the potion from Toresian. You should see the proper faction messages.

Step Five: Hit your “9” key to target Toresian, then your “0” key to say “I wish to assist Toresian”. You should have another potion in your hand. It is important to note that you do NOT have to face Toresian for this to work. Always face FAKE Slansin so you can hand him the potion.

Step Six: Repeat steps Four and Five about 2,500 times.

The key to this quest is making the minimum mouse movements and key strokes. You CAN do this quest by just hitting the “9” and “0” keys and clicking your mouse button twice, WITHOUT MOVING YOUR MOUSE. Experiment getting FAKE Slansin lined up so that when you hand the potion to him the little NPC trading window pops up with the “Accept” button right under your mouse pointer. You should be doing this quest so fast that the only thing slowing you down is the lag between your machine and the Verant server.

One important note. Every five or six trades make sure you “Hail” FAKE Slansin right after you hand him a potion (just hit the “H” key). This will keep him stuck in place. If you DON’T do this, he will eventually wander off, regardless of how many potions you are handing him, and you will have to pull him up from the basement again. Don’t hail him every trade – it is an extra key stroke and causes additional lag. Try to get into a rhythm 1-2-3-4-5-6 “hail”, 1-2-3-4-5-6 “hail”…

Once you get cranking, you should be able to do this quest between 30 and 45 times per minute, depending upon your connection. I went from extremely bad “scowl” faction (where I had even killed some of the Freeport Guards AFTER killing Lucen) and got to non-KoS “dubious” faction in approximately one and a half hours (maybe a little less). Note that you WILL max out both your Coalition of Tradefolk and Coalition of Tradefolk Illegal factions, so when you see the messages that you can’t increase either of those factions any more, you will be getting close (assuming you are starting with ‘dubious’ Coalition of Tradefolk faction). It is kind of fun to finish up with this quest and run through the Freeport sewers and see all the rogues and dark elves who are now “ally” with you.

Forget all the bad rumors about 18 hours, or 80,000 quests to become non-KoS. You can do this MUCH faster than any other quest, (Letter to Remmy, etc) and there are nice benefits from increasing the other factions as well. Note that this quest does NOT give any experience or cash reward, so if you aren't doing it to fix very bad faction problems there are probably better things you could be doing with your time :) I hope you benefit from this guide, and use it to take down that punk, Lucen, one or two more times :) Cheers!

When I did this quest I was threatening to Slansin, but he still responded to my hails and accepted the potions. He didn't attack me since he was green to me.

Yeah! i just finished this quest and it still works! this is by far the easiest way to get faction back After getting your soulfire. I just wanted to add that after both Coallition of Trade folk factions have been maxed your faction is sufficient to return to Freeport.

This is an EXCELLENT post. I have used it to max my 24 druid on sullon. I had time to ensnaring root him right beside Toresian, run into the chanters guild out of spell range, camp, log back in, and hail him. Just one thing I'de like to add. If you complete the quest while he is at his spawn point he POOFS! and then wont respawn when you try to Initiate the quest again. You will get the inert potion however he will not spawn. I tried for 2 days. They patched on the evening of the second day so all was fine and I am now maxed with all 5 factions.

I made a newbie to do this and he cons. indiff to me??? any suggestions?

I don't know, create a level 1 enchanter and try it. It worked first time for me.

Blabberpuss, your faction with the Craftkeepers is insufficient to do the quest. Amiable or better (and from my memory mid to upper amiable is needed). Unfortunately, the best method for getting the faction needed to do the quests is to kill Elial Brook http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=3396 repeatedly for the faction. Repeated killing the guy got to me:
Elial Brook screams in pain! <-- that is what did it
You have slain Elial Brook!

The default faction of a Barbarian Shaman takes killing Elial Brook about 25-30 times to get the faction needed to do this quest.

This quest does indeed require Amiable or better faction with Toresian (and the Craftkeepers) to begin. I offed Elial Brook about fifteen times and got to "indifferent"; three more times and I was "amiable" and got the potion. After doing this quest fifty times I'm still "dubious" to those nasty Corrupt Qeynos Guards (the reason I'm doing this quest, as I'm already "apprehensive" to the Freeport Militia). At least this gives me somthing to do while in Erudin. ;-)

It is probably because you created a level one char :) Some quests require you to be a minimum level before you can do them.
the real Slansin

If anyone really wants to turn this inert potion in to the real Slansin heres how it's done. First off you need to spawn the fake Slansin by telling Toresian "I wish to assist Toresian". Then go down and kill the fake Slansin. This will cause the real Slansin to spawn in the back room.
FYI the reward sucks, the faction hits you take for killing the fake Slansin sucks, and the faction you get for turning in the bottle to the real Slansin doesnt justify the means. Just wanted to answer the questions on the real slansin.
Factions.....

Toresian Fhabel is of the CraftKeepers faction. To gain faction with him, go to Toxxulia Forest and camp Elial Brook. It took me exactly 20 kills to go from dubious to amiable for my DE (60 CHA).

Slansin is of the CoalitionOfTheTradesFolkIll faction (Freeport Rogues). To gain faction with him, get a truckload of Kiola Nuts and Water Flasks (Sister Island in OOT) and give them to Tumpy Irontoe in North Kaladim to make Tumpy Tonics. Once you get the tonics, give them to Groflah Steadirt in Seafarer's Roost in East Freeport. 8 stacks got me from scowl (as a DE, I did the Halfling Bandage quest) to amiable.

Hello.

I learned about this a long time ago, and though I forget about the details, but Groflah will have a placeholder (a paladin, barbarian, or DE female)in the tavern next to the docks in E FP. Giving Groflah the tumpy tonics will raise faction with the E/W freeport merchants as well as the Paladins in N Freeport. Groflah only spawns in the evenings after killing the PH after 8pm or so.

A most excellent thing for a DE necromancer, I would think. =) Oh, it takes about level 15 - 18 to kill the Barbarian PH.
