Markus Jaevins is located at +730, +915 on the top floor of the Tower of The Gate Callers in Erudin Palace.

You say, 'Hail, Markus Jaevins'

Markus Jaevins says 'I am the overseer of the great city of Erudin. You will address me in the proper manner. HAIL!!'

You say, 'Who are you?'

Markus Jaevins says 'Markus Jaevins is the highest ranking official in Erudin.'

You say, 'What about the heretics?'

Markus Jaevins says 'The heretics are our sworn enemies. Their ancient origins are our own, however, they are the mad Erudites who chose the dark side of magic called necromancy. We, the magicians, caught one snooping in the palace just last week. He is now our [prisoner].'

You say, 'What prisoner?'

Markus Jaevins says 'The infidel was memorizing our spells to take to the rest of the heretic scum. He will finally be [purged] today. Could you please go to the cells here in the palace and ask Jail Master Lius to give you the heretic's remains?'

You say, 'What do you mean, purged?'

Markus Jaevins says 'To be purged is to take all the evil from one's body and set the soul free. Through magical means, the Erudite cleansers pull the accused's organs out through the mouth. When all is done, you can be assured the body is cleansed of all evil.'

You say, 'Where is Jail Master Lius?'

Markus Jaevins says 'The prison is on the lower level of the palace inside the City Office.'

Warden Lius is located at +560, +850 inside the City Office in Erudin Palace.

You say, 'Hail, Warden Lius'

Warden Lius says 'Hail, citizen! This is no place for you. Make sure you keep it that way. We do not need any more [hollow men].'

You say, 'What hollow men?'

Warden Lius says 'There is only one sentence in Erudin, death!! And death by purging is the most common. The insides of the criminal are literally pulled out chunk by chunk through the mouth. Then the hollow man is set adrift to float the seas of Erud's Crossing, his body cleansed of all anarchy.'

You say, 'I need the heretic remains.'

Warden Lius says 'I am afraid the heretic prisoner has escaped. There was a skirmish on the palace grounds so I went to assist. When I returned to my post he was gone! I don't know how... he was locked away in the first cell, across from that no-good, thieving gnome, and it is impossible to break the lock with or without magic. We will find him soon. Tell Guildmaster Markus he has escaped.'

You say, 'Hail, Markus Jaevins'

You say, 'The heretic has escaped.'

Markus Jaevins says 'Escaped!! This is not good. The sentinels will not find him in time. You must find him. When you find him, release his soul and rid his body of evil any way you can. Bring me proof and all will be well.'

Elial Brook is located at -365, +330 in Toxxulia Forest.

You say, 'Hail, Elial Brook'

Elial Brook says 'That was not a very intelligent thing to do.'

#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 29 2001 at 9:04 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Dont be an a** .. you have to turn in the right bones .... only the ones from Elial Brook or one of the heretics will work .. not just any bone chips dummy. They say "Bones" not bone chips... Now get your facts straight before you start getting mad and cursing at people.
Pet is easy

My lvl 4 mage coned his pet...blue although he is still red. Maybe that he has a wide range like the rest of us pet casters, but i've never seen him spawn. My friend and I (lvl 4 wizzie, lvl 4 mage) took him out in a flash. Here's how:
1) Got my strongest pet (water) and armed him with rusty *******.

2)Sicked my pet on his while my friend blasted his guts away. I finished off his pet (Blue) and got one burn in before he died.

Notice: If u plan to go into Warrens like I am, dont repeat, faction hit is a pain.

I killed Elial Brook roughtly 24 times and went from dubious to amiable with Toresian. You must be amiable or higher to do the potion quest. The bone chips are NOT Lore and if you stay there for a few hours and kill them you can turn in all the chips and every faction mentioned will be hit. =) Good luck!

The quest doesn't raise CraftKeeper faction, but killing Elial does

RE: Maybe not, BUT...

The quest may not, but killing Elial Brook DOES, and a LOT of it.
I went from apprehensive (starting faction) to amiable by only killing Brook 12 times.
for a lvl 8 mage- no problem

If you are a level 8 magician here is how to kill elial.
( This is using a water pet. haven't tried the others yet.)
stand on the small hill just north of the dock.
cast your bolt spell.
as soon as it is off send in your pet
immediatly recast the bolt.
-if he isn't dead by now. just cast burn once or twice or the shock of blades spell.

just ignore his pet till elial is dead. the pet will drop really quick.

If the 2 bolt spells hit for full damage he will be dead by the time he gets halfway to where you are standing.
- quick and easy battle.
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 20 2000 at 2:00 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This quest does NOT give CRAFTKEEPER faction, therefore, it will NOT help you get the inert potion quest..

I can't speak for every NPC with a pet in the game, but for Elias, at least, that is not how it works.

When Elias first spawns:

If he's left alone he buffs himself, and then he casts the spell to summon his pet.

If you attack him as soon as he spawns or if you're already within his aggro range, he starts attacking you immediately and never summons his pet. This make the fight a LOT easier!

I killed Elias a dozen or more times yesterday, and the only times I ever had to worry about his pet was if he had already summoned it before the fight started.

His pet does hang around and keep fighting after Elias dies, but it only shows up if Elias casts his summon spell.

Ah, good advice.

My barbarian warrior camped him solo for a while. Breaking his spawn was the worst part, but manageable, and I was never in any real danger. Then you just camp him, and jump him when he spawns. If you're dual wielding and bashing/kicking, he won't get most of his spells off. Got lots of great faction, though the only coins he drops are copper. Sigh...

My level 12 Human Ranger just started seriously working on his Erudin factions this morning. He killed Elial a dozen or more times, and turned in his boney remains to Markus several times.

Here are the faction hits for killing Elial:

Better faction with Deepwater Knights, GateCallers, Craftkeepers, and CrimsonHands (the paladins of Prexus and the three caster guilds in Erudin).

Worse faction with Heretics.

And here are the faction hits for turning in Elial's remains to Markus:

Better faction with GateCallers, High Guard of Erudin, and High Council of Erudin.

Worse faction with Heretics.

Note: the Heretic Prophet that occasionally shows up in Toxxulia Forest gives the exact same faction hits as Elial and is much easier to kill; unfortuantely she seems to be a fairly rare spawn.

After an hour or two of killing Elial, and turning in his head a few times, my ranger's faction is now amiable to all three Erudin caster guilds and to the Deepwater Knights. He's still apprehensive to the guards, though; no idea how many times I'd have to turn in Elial's bones to raise that.
faction when killing Elial

faction does not change with high guard when you kill Elial
not so bad

My level 8 enchanter and a level 7 wiz took him down easy. We jumped him as he spawned so he never got to summon his pet. I cast one DoT and had my pet go to work on him and my friend used his level 4 DD a couple of times. He managed to get one spell off on the wiz (poison bolt I think) and that was it. Down he went.
Great faction for little effort overall. A group of three level 7-8 should be able to easily take him and the pet with no problems at all. Just keep hitting him so his spells get interruped and your good to go.
Good Hunting to you all.

LOOK OUT!!!

This guy is at least lvl 8 and will buff himself and summon a pet that is lvl 8 as well.

My 12 Cleric took him while waiting for a group for the faction and all I can say was that he is a pain in the @$$. He, even though he was GREEN, would resist some of my spells and yet be able to pull off every single one he cast on me. Also, he uses Fear a lot. BAD thing, this. He Feared me once and my character went running through the woods at a breakneck pace, causing him to fall off something (no clue what it was, everything was just blurs - I was moving INCREDIBLY fast) and do 60+ damage to him. I ended up only a few hundred feet from Paineel, having run about more than half the zone in a few seconds. My warning would be to group up and have one people take the pet while one or two (preferrably 2) take Elial. MAKE SURE you keep him neutralized somehow so that he can't cast (I personally fought fire with fire and Feared the bejeezus out of him). Also, for some reason as with other NPCs, I found that I could only do 1 damage to him, so he must have a very high AC.

In short, BEWARE!
