You say, 'Hail, Rallic Aristos'

Rallic Aristos says 'Well met Daias! I am Rallic Aristos, Governor of trade and economy here in Katta Castellum. I know it sounds like a lot of parchment pushing and coin counting but maintaining good trade relations with the various Houses of Shadow Haven and the haggling Vah Shir of Shar Vahl is not as easy at it may sound. Then there is the issue of the [acrylia mines] in the Tenebrous Mountains.'

You say, 'What acrylia mines?'

Rallic Aristos says 'The Tenebrous Mountains are rich with veins of the valuable acrylia ore. Unfortunately the mines were dug and controlled by a tribe of savage grimlings from the forests to the south. Negotiations have been attempted with the grimlings but to no avail. Several of the other governors and I have been developing a [plan] to take the mines or establish mines of our own. In either case the mines will have to be defended from attacks by the grimlings unless when placed in that predicament they finally resort to trade negotiations.'

You say, 'What plan?'

Rallic Aristos says 'The full plans are not at my disposal but one of my concerns that may be instrumental in our success is the acquisition of grimling documents carried by a grimling courier who is seen frequently running from the forest to the mines. If one of the Validus Custodus attempts to obtain the runners pouch the grimlings will surely retaliate, if adventurers like yourselves obtained it however and quietly delivered it to me we may be able to move forward with our plans.'

The grimling runner is found on the southern side of the zone. He drops a pack (LORE) which you turn into Rallic Aristos in Katta.

Rallic Aristos says 'Excellent, the contents of the pouch shall be examined immediately. Take this pattern for a crafting a pack that will be sure to lighten the burden of its contents. I'm afraid I do not have the rest of the [required materials] at hand.'

Your faction standing with Concilium Universus got better.
Your faction standing with Seru got worse.
Your faction standing with Heart of Seru got worse.
You gain party experience!!

You receive a Rallic Pack Pattern.

You say, 'What required materials?'

Rallic Aristos says 'In addition to the pattern you will need to acquire a Perfect Owlbear Pelt, Shade Silk Thread, and a Shade Silk Cord. You may use any loom or large tailoring kit to craft the pack.'

Combine the Rallic Pattern (LORE), a shade silk thread (2 shadeling silks combined), a shade silk cord (3 shade silk threads combined), and a Perfect owlbear pelt (drops off higher level Owlbears) in a sewing kit to receive your Rallic Pack.

As a dwarf paladin never in Katta before, Rallic cons indifferent. But he does not respond when I hail him or give him any of the quest keywords. I finally got the runnner's pouch, but I am worried that Rallic may not give me the pattern if I just give him the pouch at this point.

Has anyone had the same experience? I'm not sure yet what to do raise faction. Has anyone just given the pouch to Rallic without him responding to the quest lines?

Just wanted to add that evil races are also KOS in Sanctus Seru - which seems a little odd to say the least.

Katta is a "good city"

If you haven't taken the time to learn a little about Luclin here is a quick rundown on Katta:
There were a bunch of people... some wanted to let Dark Elves into their little kingdom, some didn't. Those that did, now live in Sanctus Seru. Those that didn't, live in Katta. If you are an evil race you will have to work faction before doing this quest. It seems as if many of the posters here don't realize this important fact until after they die...

# Mar 12 2002 at 9:21 PM Rating: Default
Actually, it's the other way around... the people who let the dark elves into the Combine now live in Katta, and the ones who don't want the dark elves live in Seru. Tsaph Katta (the guy they named Katta after) was assassinated because he let dark elves join the Combine (among other things.)

Regardless, evil races start out kos in both cities.
Very nice pack

The runner is conned dark blue to a level 43 wood elf ranger, but was quite an easy solo. As mentioned below, he pops right by the entrance to grimling woods, I got lucky and waited all of about 3 minutes for him. As a Tunare worshipping Wood Elf Ranger, no faction problems with Rallic.

The owlbear flesh renders by/in the owlbear caves (Hollowshade) were all green with the exception of a couple of (very) light blues. Only took me 17 owlbears before I got a perfect pelt.

I didn't find any silks off the lesser shades as has been stated, but found a reasonable supply off the silkworms (perhaps one in three had silks - 1, 2 or 3). As to be expected the silkworms were all one hit deaths.

And with around a level 40 tailoring everything was trivial to make (two silks make a thread, three threads make a cord - combine one thread, one cord, the pelt and the pattern to make the pack). I believe the pack is always succesful regardless of tailoring skill.

To everyone with the possible exception of Monks I'd figure these bags (pity you can only have one) to be a more than adequate substitute for a tinkerer's bag, and a darn sight cheaper.

Well decided to try this quest out. My tailoring was at 0. collected 18 silks...combined to produce 9 threads. Now tailoring was at 2 when I moved on to combine 3 threads to make a cord. Failed all three times to make a cord. :( Going back to collect more darn silks and put a bunch of points into tailoring. So if your tailoring is at 0 when you start this....you wont be making cords. Ill post back at what taioring lvl it worked at.
possible shade silk cord nerf
# Feb 14 2002 at 1:45 PM Rating: Decent
Not sure about this but, a month ago I made 3 shadeling silk cords no failures. (cord is made by combining 3 shade silk threads) But yesterday I tried makeing a cord and failed.
Shade Silk threads are trivial to me and never have failed, my sewing skill cant be higher than about 20. So why yesterday did I fail on 4 attempts at making the cord?
Was the sewing skill on the cord raised?
I was, however, able to make a rallic pack itself using a cord I had in the bank so that still seems to use no sewing skill.

Anyone else have a problem making the cords?

I didn't know about this quest until my group was running through Tenebrous and the Runner aggroed on us. He died easily, and we rolled on the pack, and I won it. So I looted it and looked the quest up a few days later. Once I did I decided it would be best to go to Katta and see how my faction was since I have spent a few nights killing Vamps in Tenebrous, and a few nights killing them in Maidens. I had also collected ashes and blood, and had been informed you could turn these in for faction. So with ashes, blood, and runner pack, off to Katta I go. I zone in and the guards still scowl at me. Fine, I invis up off to find Rallic I go. Eventually I find him and con him and he scowls at me... I con Drenic (the ash/blood quest guy) and he scowls at me. Both con red to me at 57 SK. A 60 enchanter comes out to try and help me. He buffs the mob up... no change in faction. He tries to charm Drenic, and the mob attacks him, so he gates. I tried to hand in ashes by hiding and standing behind this guy, but he aggroed that way too. How in the heck can I complete this quest? My faction appears to have changed not 1 bit despite the fifty to a hundred vamps I have killed. The quest mobs for raising faction and the pack itself both con KoS to me. Does anybody know how an SK can finish this quest, or do I simply have to kill about a 1000 more vampires?

you can gain faction with the upper part of Katta by killing the guards at the twilight/katta zone in...you can gain faction with the lower part of katta by killing the "vampires" in the top portion of katta.

Have you tried having a non kos guildmate do the turn in for you? I see these selling relatively frequently on E'ci, and my 52 druid isn't KoS, so if none of the components are no drop, just have a guildy do the hand in for you and give you the bag when he's done.

Check faction before entering city... CON . CON . CON. Needless to say i died handing the pack over for my first quest try. Necros are more than likely KOS. I should know i am 47th necro with terrible factions.
The runner, pelts and threads are the easy part. Getting Rellic to like you is a different story.

I've seen a few people comment on great successes with low skills tailoring these beautiful bags, was wondering if anyone could comment on weither it was trival or not? and if anyone has FAILED, I'd ask you to PLEASE post for general knowledge (please do not just throw in a post saying "yeah I have 200 tailoring skill and made it first try" this gives us no useable info.

I also got the impression that the LORE/NODROP bag from the runner drops everytime, if anyone can comment on that also, please do

Info I can give you:
the silks you need are "a shadeling silk" looks like regular spider(ling) silk, combines the same way, drops off "a lesser shade" in Shadeweaver's thicket, and Xakra Worms in Shar Vahl and Shadeweaver's...they are extremely easy to collect as they like to drop a lot and usally three at a time, but not always, the perfect owlbear pelt is simplistic to get, I got mine from killing the owlbear cubs in Paludal Caverns while camping The Reshicyben. I don't think I killed more than 10 mabye 15 cubs and had two drop, gave one to newbie who seemed excited about it before I knew of this quest.

I tried it at Tailoring 0. I'm now at 1 with a pack! :)

I would expect the runner drops the bag each time. As I read somewhere, "it's his job".

I can attest to the fact that the pack is trivial at level 20.

I have a feeling that it is doable with ZERO skill... but if you are paranoid then go throw 20 points in it at your guildmaster. It worked for me at 20.

# Feb 06 2002 at 9:10 PM Rating: Default
According to EQtraders.com, the trivial for the pack is less than 17. I have a tailoring skill of 31, and it was trivial. I have killed the grimling runner at least six times while camping the grimling caves, and he had the pack every time. The rallic packs are great, but are difficult to sell on my server, since everyone and their dog has one now. I just give them away to guildies. There were several times when I was the only one in the zone, and the pack rotted on the ground, since I had a rallic pack, the pattern, and a grimling pack already. Yes, it is possible to have them all at once. Beware though, doing this quest lowers your faction with some Seru factions. I have done the pack quest 4 times, but have not gone back to check my faction in SS to see how much of a hit it took.
RE: just a few questions
# Feb 07 2002 at 2:04 PM Rating: Decent
As far as I know the pattern isn't lore. A guildie of mine has 6 patterns now and is currently hunting owlbears for those stupid perfect pelts.
The pelts seem to be the hardest part considering the runner is a very predictable 90 minute pop.

Sure there is. Make a newbie kitty, and get him to the grimling caves through Hollowshade and then through Grimling Forest. It shouldn't be difficult if you stick to the walls and can get him a SoW. Log him out near the cave, then log in your necro and kill the grimling runner. Then log in your kitty and loot the pack. Take it to the quest NPC in Katta, and he'll give you the pattern, which is not no drop. Transfer the pattern from your kitty to your necro, and there you have it.

I see several posts regarding the inability to snare/root the runner. There are several other mobs in Tenebrous that are immune to speed changes (like the darkwing bats, for example).

One thing that will help a lot of folks is that these mobs can still be feared, charmed, and mezzed for crowd control purposes. As a bard, I personally prefer to fear, dot, haste..rinse and repeat. Have dropped the runner several times with ease using this twist at low 40s levels.

If you are on the Rathe then you might hear me shout "runner down at cave 1--come n' get it" if you see me in tenebrous.

On the perfect owlbear pelts, YES they drop in the owlbear caves in Hollowshade in case you are still wondering. I'm lvl 43 so they are all green to me -- as a bard the easiest way to farm this cave is swarming 6 at a time with charm. And if you have above 45 base magic resist then their little Screech spell won't touch you. Only hits for 65 if it DOES land.

Hope this clears some cloudy air and gives you some ideas.

Most likely I have a feeling that they are going to change the WR or just put a stop to it already, but that's ok,i've already taken care of my main, my alt (yes, only 1 alt), my friends, and guildmates. Camped this guy like 7 times and only got 2 of them for me :)
Just finished this quest

We just finished this quest with 6 of us, from 45-53 range. It was fairly simple quest for us, took us only two nights of about 4 hours each to get 6 bags made. First thing we did was to camp shadeweaver thicket for shadling silks. Luckily some of the kitty alts had bunch of silks so we didn't have to hunt too many. I have tailoring skill of 109 so I converted them in to silk threads (2 silks per) then took 3 of the silk threads combined for silk cord. Total of 8 silks per person so we needed 48 silks without any failures. Made those without any failures.

Then we went to the owlbears cave to hunt owlbears. It seems like there were 2 at the entrance, about 5-6 in the tunnel, about 4-5 in the back room and about 4-5 in the little side room there. We hunted for about 30 minutes and got 2 perfect pelts. We then shouted for WTB perfect pelts in the zone and bought 3 at 20pp each. Last one someone gave to us for helping him clear a Grimling town for his quest items. That took longer than our owlbear camp. We had 6 perfect owlbear pelts in our hands.

So far nothing is no drop or lore so I kept them with me. Off we went in to Grimlin Forest. We stuck to the right wall until we saw a large grimlin town, zoned into Tenebrous Mountains zone. The zone is a long tunnel from both sides. We went to the end of the tunnel where it opens up to the zone and sat there and waited. Luckily we were the first at the camp so we didn't have to wait too long.

If you sit right at the opening of the cave, the grimlin runner literally pops on top of you. Usually he will leave the tunnel a few feet (way of pathing I guess) then comes back to attack you if you have bad faction with them. Otherwise I think you may have to get to him before he starts running. He attacked us everytime. He dropped the pouch, which is no drop and lore, and few other items of little importance. I looted the first pouch. He does pop exactly on a 90 minute cycle without fail. We just killed the local mobs and Coteries to kill time.

While the group was waiting, I ran to Katta with a SOW (most of the mobs won't even hit you if you just run past, maybe it was just me). When you zone in to Katta, go along the low wall on the right. At the first opening, make a right in to a garden and a large building with a huge double door. If you walk up to the door and click the center, it does not open. You need to go to the right side of the door, almost to the hinges, and click before the door will open. Go into the large hall, make a left. Make a next left at the hall way between rooms. Make a left at the T. The first door on the left is where the NPC who gives the quest.

I hailed him and followed the dialog, at the third dialog gave him the pouch and got the pattern. The pattern is lore but not no drop, however stackable (go figure that one out). I put the pattern, a perfect owlbear pelt, a shadling silk cord and a shadling silk thread in a tailoring kit (you will need at least a large sewing kit if you haven't already figured it out) and combine. Viola, Rallic Pack, lore, 85% weight reduction, 10 slots and holds giant items.

I went back to the zone, gave it to a guildie and waited for the next spawn of grimling runner. Did the same thing again, then logged. Two of the guildies stayed on and killed the runner twice on their own.

Next day when I logged, the guys who had the pouch needed the bags. We went to Katta and had them get the pattern from the NPC. Since the pattern was not no drop, they gave me the pattern one at a time, I made the bag and gave it back to them. Then we camped the runner twice more and I kept the last bag. I hope this helps with the quest. Good luck.

Help! I spent well over an hour killing lesser shades in Shadeweaver Thicket and got a ton of shadeling silks as they dropped up to three at a time! I put two in my tailoring kit and VIOLA! A bandage??? WTF? I did it again and again. I have a nice stack of bandages now. Is there a different silk I should be going after? There were no other varieties of shades other then the Lesser Shades on tracking in the whole zone. ARGH!

They're not bandages, they just look like bandages. Try looking at the item info with either the Alt button with the cursor over the open bag with the "bandages" in it, or just right click.

You place 2 unstacked silks togethor in a standard tailoring kit and it will create a shadeling silk thread.

To create the shadeling silk cord, just place 3 shadeling silk threads (not two) and you will get a cord. If you place 2 silk threads togethor, you will get a bandage.

For this quest, you need a total of 8 shadeling silks.

I got a perfect owl bear pelt off of Yelloweyes last night in Paludal Caverns while camping Maricella. It also dropped a shrieking substance one other time. Not sure what that is but it is yet another Luclin no-drop item so must be for a quest.
