READ THIS QUEST CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU DO IT

This quest can NOT be done solo, some of the camps can be but, the turn in battles are too much for a single player. You will need a single group of at least 4 to complete this quest. The Shield is NOT No Drop. The quest can be MQed.

Go to Katta Castellum. Go up to the top of the castle to the main building and walk out on to the red carpet on the first floor turn left and go to Loc (neg 234, pos 161)last door on your right, you will find a NPC named Roshawna Rhorer.

You say 'Hail, Roshawna Rhorer'

Roshawna Rhorer says, 'A pleasure to speak with you! You appear to be a foreigner to Katta Castellum as well. I hope your reasons for visiting this noble city are more leisurely than my own. In addition to my normal duties as a Shar Vahl Emissary to Katta Castellum there is the issue of the [Tormented Vah Shir] in Tenebrous Mountains that must be dealt with.'

You say, 'What tormented Vah Shir?'

Roshawna Rhorer says, 'Recently the skeletons of Vah Shir have been spotted wandering the Tenebrous Mountains ferociously and blindly attacking the living.'

There are legends among my people that speak of Vah Shir warriors that were murdered dishonorably in their sleep by a traitor allied with [dark spirits]. The spirits of these murdered warriors become trapped in their decaying mortal shells for often many years before they are driven mad by the despair, rage, and torturous experience.

When this negative spirit energy becomes strong enough the corpses rise and attempt to slaughter all that crosses their path in their state of eternal rage. Spirits tormented in such a manner must be assisted so that they may finally find peace in death. Will you [help the souls]find peace?'

You say, 'What dark spirits?'

Roshawna Rhorer says, 'Not all spirits that can be called upon by those who are in touch with the spirit realms are of good intentions.

There are spirits who seek to destroy and corrupt. These dark spirits are best avoided and kept from manifesting their influence on the mortal realms.Unfortunately the foolish or the weak willed are tempted by their promises of power.

Most who deal with the dark spirits are shortly driven mad by the spirits influencer destroyed by the very powers they were promised.

There are tales however of powerful shaman capable of harnessing and controlling the dark spirits and their evil powers of corruption. These wicked traitors to the Vah Shir teachings are called [Rakshasa].'

You say, 'Who Rakshasa?'

Roshawna Rhorer says, 'Like I said the Rakshasa are spoken of only in old tales. Whether they truly existed or not can not be proven for sure and the elder spiritualist insist they are nothing more than creatures of fiction.

If there truly is a Rakshasa alive today it would be a powerful creature indeed.

They are said to no longer have a physical body of their own, having traded it to a powerful evil spirit so that it may enter the mortal realm in exchange for dark gifts.
Because the Rakshasa no longer has a physical body of its own it must take the forms of other creatures and can not be destroyed with conventional weapons.'

You say, 'I will help the souls'

Roshawna Rhorer says, 'The only way for a tormented undead Vah Shir to be put to rest is to destroy its body and take its skull to Shar Vahl where our spiritualists can perform a ritual to cleanse and free the imprisoned spirit.

Fill this chest with skulls and return it to me and I will make the preparations for it to be sent to Shar Vahl.

The spiritualists there have just recently received word of the situation and will be prepared to perform the proper rituals when the time comes.'

You receive a Runed Iron Bound Chest (8 Slot)

  • Collect 8 Tormented Vah Shir Skulls. 0/8 Tenebrous Mountains

Head to the Tenebrous Mountains and look for A Tormented Vah Shir he's waiting for you.

Skulls: Just turn right when you leave the Katta zone line and go to Loc (neg1265, pos 1774) (Yes clerics you can use sense undead to target them) also the LOC given is a spawn area but all in that area from the back of the tree by the rocks to just in front where the hill starts to slop they can spawn so keep your eyes open. The second spawn area is at pos 303, neg 85.

Spawn times on the PH are every 6 min. The Mobs do roam so if you miss the pop just wait 30 min and it will reset.

The 1st Camp is a nice safe camp, no roamers only problem is that sometimes the mobs get stuck in the wall or the tree that is close by and they will despawn. (This was /petitioned and /bug)

The 2nd Camp is not so nice, it's out toward the middle of the zone and seems to be the Grand Central Station of the place, you will get lots of green agro at this camp, but if the other one is camped it beats not doing the quest at all.

There are 3 Placeholders at camp 1 that I have seen, they are these stooges here:

Yes you get a faction hit for killing the nice Grol Baku, but it's ok though it's not like they know where you live.

  • Combine the 8 skulls in Runed Iron Bound Chest.

When you combine the skulls it turns the container into Sealed Runed Iron Bound Chest.

  • Return Sealed Runed Iron Bound Chest to Roshwana in Katta.

(The skulls are so cute all in a row, makes you just want to keep them doesn't it, quote the raven never more)

Roshawna Rhorer purrs an incantation and waves her claws back and forth over the chest.

The runes inscribed on the chest and iron bands begin to softly glow with a golden light.

Roshawna Rhorer says, 'You have done a great service for these poor souls.
I have sent for a courier to come for the chest of skulls but he is quite late in his arrival.

I will keep it safe until the courier arrives.'

Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl got better.
    You gain experience!!

A Vah Shir courier says, 'Sorry for the delay mistress, I ran into a spot of trouble on the way here. I am prepared to deliver your crate to the spiritualists back home.'

Roshawna Rhorer says, 'I hope your journey back to Shar Vahl is less eventful. Please make haste the spiritualists must receive this crate as soon as possible.'

A Vah Shir courier tucks the crate of skulls under his arm and nods to Roshawna. Suddenly the courier begins to shake, his fur stands on end, and his eyes glaze over expressionlessly.

The courier runs for the gates of Katta Castellum with an other worldly howl echoing in his wake.

Roshawna Rhorer says, 'Stop him! Stop the courier!
An evil spirit has possessed him!
He must not escape with those skulls!
Catch him and bring back that crate of skulls!'

    *READ THIS CAREFULLY*

At the time of writing this walk through, I found a bug in this part of the quest(Shocking isn't it) you MUST kill the courier in the great hall, the one you first walk in to when you enter the castle with the red carpet down the center and the stair way going up, if you do not you will only get 7 out of the 8 reanimated Vah Shir and you will have to destroy your stuff and start the quest over again.(Been there done that thank you very much)

  • Kill the Vah Shir Courier.

A Vah Shir courier has been slain.

A Vah Shir Courier's corpse slams the crate of skulls against the ground with unnatural force as he falls jarring it open.

With his dying breath the possessed courier mutters a dark incantation and the skulls burst from the chest sprouting new skeletal forms.

(At this point 8 Reanimated Vah Shir's will spawn, you have to kill them, you will need a group for this or at least a melee with a chanter or bard and a healer, the Skellys con light blue to level 56.)

  • Loot 8 Vah Shir Skull's from their corpses

(Check out Tinmari line dancing with the Reanimated Vah Shir, she's such a party girl)

  • Combine the skulls in the chest and hand them back to Roshawna Rhorer.

Roshawna Rhorer says, 'It appears this situation is much more dire than we had first presumed. It would be unsafe to send this crate within the walls of Shar Vahl should another innocent be possessed and the tormented Vah Shir be resurrected once more.'

I shall scribe a note explaining the occurrences for you to deliver along with the crate to Spiritualist Roleko at the Vah Shir outpost in Grimling Forest.'

You receive Roshawna's Report of Occurrences.

Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl got better.
    You gain party experience!!

Now head over to the Grimling Forest to Loc (neg 730, neg1000) and you will find Spiritist Roleko. He is easy to find once you zone over from Hollowshade Moor as you exit the cave to your right just down the hill is a VahShir Outpost, just go in the gate and turn to your left he's standing by a big rock at the foot of the hill.

    You say, 'Hail, Spiritist Roleko'

Spiritist Roleko says, 'Greetings Traveler. If it is rest you seek then I'm sure you may rest safely within the walls of this outpost. As the sentries keep watch for physical danger I commune with the spirits of this territory to watch for less noticeable threats.'

  • Give Spiritist Roleko Roshawna's Report of Occurences and Resealed Warded Iron Bound Chest.

Spiritist Roleko says, 'It was wise of Roshawna to send you to me instead of risk bringing something so tainted by the dark spirits within the walls of Shar Vahl.

I shall begin the ritual immediately.

What is that?! Look! There is a grimling heading this way followed by what appear to be grimling undead.

Defend me while I perform the ritual.'

  • Kill a possessed grimling, loot its head.

  • Kill 3 Reanimated Grimling Skeletons, loot the skulls from them.

  • Give Spiritist Roleko the Possessed Grimlings Head and Reanimated Grimling Skull.

Give me the head of that grimling and the skulls of those undead!

Your faction standing with Dar Khura got better.
    You gain party experience!!

Spiritist Roleko says, 'I am grateful for your assistance.
I will be able to complete the rest of the ritual without danger the spirits in the skulls have been calmed.

Please take this report of occurrences to Spiritist Cholsa in Shar Vahl.'

You receive Rolekos Report of Occurrences.

Your faction standing with Dar Khura got better.

  • Run to Shar Vahl and give Scribe Cholsa, Roshawna's Report of Occurrences.

Scribe Cholsa is in the shammy guild in Shar Vahl with the other spiritualists. Enter the Palace and turn right take the stairs going down, open the first door and turn right, open the door on your right and enter the room she is on the right hand side at Loc (pos 80, pos 145).

    Upon hand in.

Scribe Cholsa says, 'So it seems there is more truth to the legends of the Rakshasa than is commonly believed.
I recall much of the tales of the wicked shaman who sold their souls and bodies to the dark spirits.
There is a ritual that must be performed to force the Rakshasa to fully materialize in our realm so that it may be slain.

I will write down the instructions for the ritual but the [components] I'm afraid may be difficult to obtain.'

Your faction standing with Dar Khura got better.
    You gain experience!!

    You say, 'What is components?''

Scribe Cholsa says, 'The legends instruct that the ritual requires an Amulet of Golden Rays crafted by a worshiper of the sun, Charcoal that burns with a Black Flame, and the Brain of a creature that can Leech the Thoughts of others.

If you manage to procure these items please take them with the instructions I have provided to Spiritualist Roleko at the Grimling Forest Outpost.

The Rakshasa shall be summoned and slain there away from the citizens of Shar Vahl.'

Ok now we are off to find 3 more items, it does not matter what order you do them.

The Amulet of Golden Rays come from deep in the Scarlet Desert, at Loc (pos 570, neg 740), it is a rare spawn off of the Burning Priest he has a PH every 32 minutes but the upside here is that the Revenants are awesome exp. You can not kite these mobs, your going to have to get melee here for this. (The Burning Priest is a Cleric he will Complete Heal)

Black Flame Charcoal comes from the Umbrous Toilers, it is a rare drop. The best place I have found to camp these guys are at Loc (pos 1680, neg967) in Maidens Eye.

(Yes I see that the Charcoal is LORE and stackable)

Thought Leech Brain from a Thought Leech in the Thought Leech Cave in Mons Letalis, a rare drop. The LOC for the Thought Leech cave is Loc (neg 1029,pos 36). Mobs in here are light blue to level 56 and I had no problem soloing them with my ranger.

(This is your brain in your head; this is your brain in my backpack)

  • Turn in Thought Leech Brain, Black Flame Charcoal, Amulet of Golden Rays and Rakshasa Materialization Ritual to Spiritist Roleko. Grimling Forest

Spiritst Roleko can be found at /loc neg 730, neg1000 in Grimling Forest.

    Upon turn in.

Scribe Cholsa prepares the ritual components according to the ritual instructions.

Spiritist Roleko says, 'I will need to maintain my concentration to keep the Rakshasa from escaping back into the spirit realm.
If you kill him while he is materialized he will be slain and his body will remain material.
Bring me the head of the Rakshasa when he is slain.'

Your faction standing with Dar Khura got better.

Rakshasa will spawn he is approximately level 51, he is a shaman of course, and unstunnable, and unsnareable but he can be slowed.

Rakshasa Karwoaro says 'Hahahaha. You can not defeat that which is not of this realm of existence!
I shall slay your feeble meat shells for your audacity of summoning me here!

    Hahahaha.'

  • Kill Rakshasa Karwoaro and loot his head.

Your faction standing with Order of Autarkic Umbrage got worse.
Your faction standing with Coterie of the Eternal Night got worse.
Your faction standing with Valdanov Zevfeer got worse.
Your faction standing with Akheva got better.
Your faction standing with Shak Dratha got better.
    You gain party experience!!

Rakshasa Karwoaro says 'I shall have my revenge! I swear it!!'

  • Give Head of the Rakshasa to Spiritualist Roleko.

Spiritist Roleko says, 'The threat of the Rakshasa appears to be eliminated.

You have the gratitude of the Dar Khura for your bravery and assistance.

Let us be wary however, the Rakshasa gained his power by allying with dark spirits that may not be indifferent to the Rakshasas death.'

Your faction standing with Dar Khura got better.
    You gain party experience!!

You receive Shield of Bane Warding.

I would like to thank Aristaeus, Tinmari & mostly Teena for helping me complete this quest.

we went in with a 55 mage, 55 druid (me), 54 pallie, 52 sk, 49 warrior, 54 druid, 50 ish ranger, 51 cleric. (no chanters cause they were all busy in fear and bigger better places so we had to do some druid mez)

vah shir courier- he comes alone then upon death (we pulled to the entrance)the 8 skeles pop, all the tanks solo'd these while druids and cleric rooted adds, was alotta running around but they stay in the area and dont run off, took about 15 mins or so. (also a note to evil races, u are kos here but the guards are cheese and are killed easily, 52 sk solo'd these when they jumped him)

possessed grimling- was a nasty bugger, the tanks jumped on him while i ran around and rooted the skeles, i had all 3 skele's rooted and was waiting on the tanks to get finished, cleric died, then i ran and checked the tanks and they were doing well on health, 52 sk was getting low so a casted a sup heal on him, then the grimling aggro'd me and proceeded to hand me my rear in a bag (you are now 54, loading please wait, hello trak's teeth) grimmie dont like no healer's. tanks killed him and finished off the skele's while i chilled next to seb, lil naked and embearassed.

rakshasa - was easy, tanks tore him up and when he got to 1/3 life we just nuked.

grimling and rakshasa - spell effects regarding change in running speed doesnt work. grimling hits for 117 or 171 and fast (cant remember went down too fast then crash to desktop) and all i did was a lil sup heal after tanks were whackin on it for a while.

i was a lil skeptical about going into these battles w/o the chanter but everything worked out well and the quest was completed.

thank you melae (55 mage) for originally doing this quest for your cleric but then gave me the shield instead. im a happy drood 8)

Taking right wall out of Grimling.. past the castle and on the left is a little hill... the " NE" Corner of the zone. Have kept the Martians and Bats and Wolfs to 0... waiting for more to spawn... started pulling Vamps to pass the time.. came back to my hill... and found a skelly beating on my pup.. (56 shaman btw) So Walla... One skull..

7 hours later... still no other pop.

Got ahold of the guild.. said come on down lets clear this Castle and see what happens..

45 Mins later Castle cleared.. Lev on.. Jeronimo out of the top of the tower.. (Wizzy Rain Spell aggroed re-pops on lower floors) and otw to Grimling Forest Tunnell.. I see a red text that says Undead Vah Shir or whatver hits you for 28... I turn... oom... 50% health.. and call in a cleric... Bam.. One spell.. dead Skelly.. Woot Skull #2.

Every time I go into the zone.. I always see at least 1 - 4 other high level WIS based types hunting the Skellies.. but no one is ever in my NE / Castle Area. After several Chats.. all say the same thing. Many Hours... no luck.

So... Any Hints.. suggestions..ideas of PH's Turn over rate... etc..

Ive spent a total of maybee 14 hours turning the place over... and havent seen another one yet.

    Any Suggestions ?

Got shield last night with no problems on skeles spawning, quest is multiquestable btw, I handed in my note for ingredients without ingredients by mistake then handed in the 3 ingredients and it still worked, thank god.

Taken from everlore:(best walkthrough I've seen, I used it to finish quest easily)

Talk to Rosahwna(sp) in the cathedral. She will give you a container to gather 8 tormented vah shir skulls found in Tenebrous Mountains. Gather all 8 and combine in box. Have a group ready before turn in box. recommend an AoE mezzer or a snarer. Turn in box. Courier spawns but gets possessed. Kill courier to get box back, 8 tormented vah shir spawn, kill them and put all 8 shulls back in the box and recombine and give to Roshawna. She gives you box back and a note. Go to Grimling Forest. find Spiritualist Rolenko at the vah shir outpost. Have group ready. Recommend a cleric, chanter 2 melee or nay combo of 6. Give note and box to Rolenko,4 mobs spawn, all grimlings, 1 live 3 undead, recommend kill live first since he is not rootable/snareable. Kill all 4 and turn in head/skulls to Rolenko. She gives you a note to take to Scribe Cholsa at Shar vahl shaman guild. Scribe Cholsa gives you a note back and tells you to collect 3 ingredients. AMuelt of the Suns Rays of burning priest in Scarlet Desert. Black flame charcoal off umbrous toilers in Maidens Eye, and a thought leech brain of thought leeches in Mons Lettalis. All no drop. Take all 3 ingredients and the note back to Spiritualist Rolenko and give to her. This spawns 1 mob.Hits for 145 tops. Blue to a 60. Unstunnable. Kill and give head to Rolenko for the shield. yes 20...read em 20 wis...hehe.

    Questions in regards to quest
    # Feb 19 2002 at 3:17 PM Rating: Decent
    Ok, minimum level 50....
Final mob blue to 59 cleric....

Just curious if anyone can discern / post the levels of mobs that are triggered a little more accurately. Just so people doing this quest have a good rationale for what they would need to have in terms of group(s) Got the materials, but would prefer to have more info before we do it so that they know what I'm dragging them into.

I ll try to aprox the level of the mobs to kill.

    - Tormented Vah Shir, usually green to a lvl 55, sometimes light blue, so i could say they are around lvl 35-37.
    - Courier, around lvl 39.
    - Reanimated Vah Shir, all light blue to a lvl 55, so a bit harder than the tormented and 8 spawns at the same time, i could say around lvl 38 or so.
    - Possessed Grimling, around lvl 47-49.
    - Reanimated Grimling Skeletons, around lvl 43-45.
    - Burning Priest, around lvl 47-49.
    - Umbrous Toilers, 48-49.
    - Thought Leech, around lvl 37-39.
    - Rakhasa Karwoaro, yellow to a lvl49, i could say he is lvl 51, bcs he can summon.

I edited that huge post which was filled with all of that crap to create the following. I HAVE NOT DONE THE QUEST. I take no responsibility for the locs of the mobs, what will spawn and agro on you if you turn anything in, etc. I merely edited that huge post. All of the parts that I added to it are in parentheses with a --- in front of them. Any place where I trailed off was pretty much PURE conjecture from me interpreting that post. That said, here's what I got after editing it:

    >Hail, Roshawna Rhorer

A pleasure to speak with you! You appear to be a foreigner to Katta Castellum as well.
I hope your reasons for visiting this noble city are more leisurely than my own.
In addition to my normal duties as a Shar Vahl Emissary to Katta Castellum there is the issue of the [tormented vah shir] in Tenebrous Mountains that must be dealt with.

    >What tormented vah shir?

Recently the skeletons of Vah Shir have been spotted wandering the Tenebrous Mountains ferociously and blindly attacking the living.
There are legends among my people that speak of Vah Shir warriors that were murdered dishonorably in their sleep by a traitor allied with [dark spirits].

Because the Rakshasa no longer has a physical body of its own it must take the forms of other creatures and can not be destroyed with conventional weapons.

    >I will help the souls

The only way for a tormented undead vah shir to be put to rest is to destroy its body and take its skull to Shar Vahl where our spiritualists can perform a ritual to cleanse and free the imprisoned spirit.
Fill this chest with skulls and return it to me and I will make the preparations for it to be sent to Shar Vahl.
The spiritualists there have just recently received word of the situation and will be prepared to perform the proper rituals when the time comes.

You receive a Runed Iron Bound Chest (8 Slot)

You need Tormented Vah Shir Skull X 8
(In the Tenebrous Mt from a tormented vah shir)

Combine them and hand it to Roshwana

Roshawna Rhorer purrs an incantation and waves her claws back and forth over the chest.

'You have done a great service for these poor souls.

    (Roshawna Rhorer)
I hope your journey back to Shar Vahl is less eventful.

    (Spiritist Roleko)
I require both the crate of tortured vah shir skulls and the report from Roshawna.

---(you hand him the box and note, i guess)

It was wise of Roshawna to send you to me instead of risk bringing something so tainted by the dark spirits within the walls of Shar Vahl.

So it seems there is more truth to the legends of the Rakshasa than is commonly believed.
I recall much of the tales of the wicked shaman who sold their souls and bodies to the dark spirits.
There is a ritual that must be performed to force the Rakshasa to fully materialize in our realm so that it may be slain.
I will write down the instructions for the ritual but the [components] I'm afraid may be difficult to obtain.

Your faction standing with Dar Khura got better.
    You gain experience!!

    >What is components?

The legends instruct that the ritual requires an Amulet of Golden Rays crafted by a worshiper of the sun, Charcoal that burns with a Black Flame, and the Brain of a creature that can Leech the Thoughts of others.
If you manage to procure these items please take them with the instructions I have provided to Spiritist Roleko at the Grimling Forest Outpost.
The Rakshasa shall be summoned and slain there away from the citizens of Shar Vahl.

---(you need the Amulet of Golden Rays from the Burning Priest in the Scarlet Desert, loc (570, -740), a rare spawn)
---(you need a Black Flame Charcoal from Maidens Eye from a umbrous toilers, a rare drop)
---(you need a Thought Leech Brain from a Thought Leech in the Thought Leech Cave in Mons Letalis, a rare drop)

    (Spiritist Roleko)
Scribe Cholsa prepares the ritual components according to the ritual instructions.

'I will need to maintain my concentration to keep the Rakshasa from escaping back into the spirit realm.
If you kill him while he is materialized he will be slain and his body will remain material.
Bring me the head of the Rakshasa when he is slain.'

Awesome post! First off, you cannot skip the first handin and the skellies. The first box you get is a SEALED box. When you kill the 8 skellies and recombine the skulls, you get a RESEALED box. Everything here was right on the mark tough, however just to clarify I have a few things. When you give the first crate to Roshawna, the courier will spawn outside and start running inside to Roshawna, leave him alone until Roshawna says to stop him. You can pull him anywhere you want, no one will aggro you. As soon as the courier drops the 8 skellies come. They are just about the same skellies that you fought in Tenebrous. When the 8 skellies spawn in Katta, the courier will go poof, you will not loot from him. Just kill the 8 skellies and loot the Reanimated skulls which are NOT no drop. Go back to Roshawna and get another box and put the skulls in, combine, and you get a REsealed box. Hand this box into Roshawna, she will give you the box and a letter. Give the letter and the resealed box to Spiritist Rolenko in Grimling. When you do, the 3 skellies and 1 grimling will spawn outside the fort and come running inside after you. These are tough. Im guessing the grimling had about 8-10khp and he cannot be snared or rooted. The skellies are alot tougher as well. Im guessing lvl 45ish. They were hitting for 120 max, I did not get hit by the grimling guy so Im not sure about him. The grimling head is No Drop, the skellie hads are not. Loot the 4 heads and turn them into Rolenko to get your report. Give it to the spiritist in Shar Vahl, he'll ask for the 3 ingredients. Give him those and the Rakshasa guy spawns, hes lvl 51ish. Kill him, loot head, and I think you hand it to Rolenko to get the shield. The Rakshasa guy is the last fight and you got a shield. Very nice

Could you maybe bypass handing the box into Roshawna the first time and just go hand it in to Spiritist Roleko in the first place? That way there is only one battle. Or do you get a different set of skulls after you kill the skellies that spawn near Roshawna?
    First battle is bugged
    # Feb 14 2002 at 9:17 PM Rating: Good
As of 14th of February 2002 this quest is bugged, did first battle twice today(second time with GM watching) 6 skellys spawned first time, 5 the second, GM reported the bug and returned our boxes of skulls tho :) Through doing the bugged quest repeatedly I managed to scrape together enough skulls to complete the first battle sequence and got my shield tonight, finally :p

Also, to correct all the previous posts, min included, after 2nd battle(in grimling forest) you run to Shar Vahl to do a turn in to a "spiritist cholsa" the text is incorrect in game, you are looking for Scribe Cholsa, she is in the shammy guild in shar vahl with the spiritists, after that you return to Spiritist Roleko in the grimling forest fort and hand the note from Cholsa and the other 3 items you need (thought leech brain, charcoal and amulet, previous posts on where and what they drop off of are correct) this spawns the rakshasa who is indeed blue to a 60, a shaman of course, and unstunnable, give his head to Roleko for the shield, sent in a pic, should be up soon I hope :)

Skulls: 14 hours seems to be the norm for getting 8 skulls. I didn't time myself since I was just logging in and gating over every now and then. But I can confirm two locations on spawns. One is turn right when you leave Katta (skellies can get stuck in wall, use sence undead to target) Second is at post303, neg85 CONFIRMED.

Thought Leech Brains: Second kill droped it.

Black Charcoal: We got none for about a hour and a half then two in about three kills. Waited about another hour for a third one.

Amulet of Golden Rays: LONG took me all day of me/a friend camping it. I started at about 1pm psf. And didn't get it til 2am psf. This is killing his ph every 32 minutes -- Upside is that the Revenants are awsome xp. Friend (59 warrior) got about one yellow killing them all day while helping me with spawn.

Alrighty, I understand I gotta turn in 8 undead Vah Shir skulls to the kitty, I kill the courier, kill his reanimated buddies, return the box (combined), get the note and bring it to the kitty in Grimling Forest. Than fight some more...

But there's one thing I don't get... Whats up with the Leech Brain, Amulet of Golden Rays, and the Black Flame Charcoal. Where do they take place in all of this?

Was sorta curious if anyone knew what the Black Flame Charcoal came off of as well. Any help would be awesome, thx!

    # Jan 11 2002 at 8:11 PM Rating: Decent
I camped this Tormented Vah Shir for his skulls last night for 9 hours and 32 minutes to get all 8 skulls. Every time I killed it I was in the SW corner near the wall. Killed multiple Dark wing bat, little soldier's, and 8 skellies. At first I got 3 right of the bat (had a necro friend killing in the SW mine when she left the spawns stopped) then killed for 5 hours and nothing. Later in the early AM as I was about to log an SK started killing in the mines and wow 4 pops of the skell almost in a row. Then he left and I waited a couple hours then people started showing up killing the runner and he finally popped on last time. I would suggest from my findings anything in the zone can be a PH/trigger but he always spawns here in the SW corner at wall by the tree. But you need people in the zone killing fast and it will pop a lot to kill.

I already have my Amulet of Golden Rays from the Firekeeper in Scarlet Desert already so I am continuing will keep you all posted.

I apologize for the 2 post have never used this board before but I forgot to tell you Druids out there that the dark wing bats cant be snared I just ran with lev along the wall and cast Starfire on them. All the others you kill including the Skellies can be rooted (I suggest also snaring for when root breaks, doesn’t happen a lot but it can) Then I casted Drifting Death and Breath of Ro on them and sit down to med. The Skell will require a bit more damage I just used my ES Vambraces right click it was plenty to kill never really went below 80m these are green and light blue cons at 52 and super easy to kill.

Regular bats arent too tough 2 maybe 3 starfires (612DD) will kill them. The named bats such as True Darkwing Bat etc can be snared/rooted.

The pathing around the zone walls is so bad in teneb that is you lev near the wall the mobs will run at right angles to you anyway and you can DD them without them getting any closer for 2/3 shots.

    i'd like to add...

when the box is turned into the cat in katta... a courier takes the box and you kill him, when you do, reanimated skelies pop.. lots of them.. kill them all.. loot the heads... loot the dead cat you killed, combine again.. turn it back in.. you get the box and a note back from that same guy who started the quest... then go to grimling and turn it into spirits rehlenko (SP?).... then a possesed grimling spawns... and 3 reanimated grimlings... the possesed is blue to 60, the others lightblue, all hit hard and are a bit MR.. might wanna get a group or 2 to kill em off.... thats as far as i got before i fail.=(

Way to go Verant make a sheild wanted by almost all Wis casters and only make one MOB that spawns that drops what you need, now you have at anyone given time there are about 6 to 8 people in zone looking for the the Rakshasa, but added to that they have a spawn time thats outragous, and yes I was running around killing stuff to see about a place holder, and now I wasted about 5 hours and not seen one spawn, when i talked to others about how long they've been here one answer was they had gotten 3 skulls in 2 days time. And when they do spawn now you've got those 6 to 8 running to kill the *******, then you get the squable about who had it first and who was camping it longest and who made it spawn, what a headache. Way to go Verant, that makes thing really fun. I'm sorry to those of you that think there is no problem but I don't have 3 accounts and all day everyday to play to camp these things, so sorry if I seem a little annoyed that this is yet another thing I'll probably never get. I'm sure there are those that agree.
    RE: Well isn't that great...
    # Feb 26 2002 at 5:46 PM Rating: Default
For the level of the reward vs. the ease of the mobs to kill, you don't really have an argument. You don't NEED the shield. If you do, and don't want to camp the spawns, buy it. If you can't afford it and don't want to camp the spawns, then you're just whining.

This is one of the greatest quest rewards I've seen in this game to date. Its a quest that doesn't require an uber guild to complete (yet people in uber guilds still feel the need to compete with me for it /shrug). I think I can live with the amount of time it takes to get the skulls.

It even brings back memories of camping the AC for JBoots.

    Ahhh...memories.

I've seen that when you start this quest and kill the guy with the box, 8 skellies pop. I've also heard you have to hunt the skellies. Since you need 8 skulls, I'm assuming any of these tormented vah shir skellies will work. Which is it? Do they pop automatically or should I expect a long camp? Also, on the grimlings that spawn in Grimling Forest....can they be snared? If so, easy as pie....just quad kite the lil bastids...
    RE: Ok which is it?
    # Jan 09 2002 at 10:29 PM Rating: Decent
Both. 1st you have to do the long camp to get the original 8 skulls. Then they get stolen and when you kill the box stealer he throws it down and reanimates the heads forcing you to kill them again. Regarding the Grimling Forest spawn... 1 of the 4 can't be snared so that fubar's the kiting.

Best to just take an enchanter to lock them down and do them 1 at a time.

This is definately not a soloing quest, attempted it tonight with me(49 bard) a 60 cleric and a 58 druid to get the shield for my pally... We pulled off the katta battle vs 8 skellies barely, I kited them all over the zone while the cleric and druid snared and nuked them one at a time, till they got agro then it was a nuthouse till we caught them all and killed them.... scared everyone else out of the zone in the process... got all 8 skulls and the box back, recombined and returned to the kitty npc in the building, she hands it back with a note to take to take to a cat npc in grimling forest in their little fort there, hand both those back in to her and bam you get jumped by 3 undead grimlings and one live one, they are WAY underconned, conned blue to me at 49, and were hitting me for 110 very fast and were fast on their feet.... we kited them around the fort for awhile till I lagged out and got caught then cleric and druid zoned to stay alive, oom from all the hps on the mobs.... I managed to run back and pull my corpse in time to agro one skelly and train him to the nearby zone, cleric pasted him.... rest of the mobs poofed before we could get back on our feet to kill them.... Take a full well balanced 50+ group if you want to succeed, I've got to start over because I didn't :(
RE: This is harder then it looks....
    # Jan 05 2002 at 2:41 AM Rating: Decent
There are 2 spawn points for the skellys as far as I have seen, one is just south of the katta zone in and is bugged as the mob sometimes spawns inside the katta wall at the corner, other one is somewhere out by the coterie tower as I was alternating tracking one from each end over a 8 hour period, yes there are PHs, kill the aliens en masse, we were pulling them for the rare cycle and spawned several of the skellies in a few hours...so yes they are rare and its not worth it sitting there camping a spot, get off your but and help clear the zone and track to them when they pop....
