Drenic Garrison may be found on the upper level on a narrow walkway, at +280, +35.

You say, 'Hail, Drenic Garrison'

Drenic Garrison says 'Greetings! I am Drenic Garrison, Governor of Science here in Katta Castellum. I am currently involved in several scientific endeavors with the other governors and am in need of assistance supplying my researchers with the proper [materials and samples] for their studies.'

You say, 'What materials and samples?'

Drenic Garrison says 'The Magus Conlegium are assisting with some studies on the physiology of the Vampyres of the Coterie of the Eternal Night and are in need of [ash and blood] samples. Maralicis Dilsm our Governor of Health is assisting in research on [counteragents] to the venom and diseases native to Luclin. Finally, there have been reports from the agents of Erikal Wolfeye that there is a civilization of [snake people] that live on the furthest reaches of the light side of Luclin in a region devoid of atmosphere.'

You say, 'What snake people?'

Drenic Garrison says 'To the west beyond the Twilight Sea is an airless grey region between the light and dark sides of Luclin. Some time ago our scouts cooperating with powerful members of the Magus Conlegium attempted to chart the expanses of the barren treacherous region. During this excursion the scouts and magi encountered a small group of strange snake like men. The magi detected no magical aid that was allowing the creatures to move freely in the airless void without danger of suffocation. When approached the snake men quickly fled. We wish to know how these creatures survive in such conditions. If they prove to be a hostile species then we will have to resort to examining their [anatomy].'

You say, 'What anatomy?'

Drenic Garrison says 'I wish to examine the lungs or whatever breathing organs these creature have. It would not be prudent to hunt and kill a living member of this species and society we know practically nothing about but there are several undead snake men in the region as well. I will require three such organs however to perform the proper experiments.'

Shissar Organs are dropped by various shissar in Echo Caverns and The Grey. Bring back three for your reward.

Drenic Garrison says 'Excellent work ____! The acquisition of these organs is a fantastic accomplishment!'

You receive Amulet of the Grey Wastes

After poking around in The Grey with a 60 monk today I came away with the three Shissar Organs required for this quest. After handing them in, I recieved this:

"Amulet of the Grey Wastes"
10sta, 4cr, 4fr
Effect: Enduring Breath

It's a perminent effect, and the item beats my old ancient fishing pole in terms of EB.

Basically, this quest gives you no excuse to hunt in The Grey for any period of time without a decent EB item. ;) Unless you're KOS in Katta, of course...

Even Kos, there are ways to do the quest still.

And what ways are those? My ogre just turned in 3 snake organs and got them eaten, and got cussed out by the NPC for his effort.

Someone I know supposedly was actually fighting the guy at the time when he handed in his three shissar organs, and he got the necklace.

So what the heck is going on here?

If it's anything like the various other quests you can do when dubious or less, as long as the NPC doesn't see through invis. Here's how you do it:

Have a friend who can invis you and isn't KOS. He doesn't have to be indiff or better, just not KOS. Have your friend cast invis on you, and go up to the NPC. Stand behind the NPC and have the friend hail spam it from the front to keep it facing away from you. Open the trade window with the NPC, then _BEFORE YOU HIT TRADE_ have your friend invis you again. Then hit trade, and you're golden. I can't recall offhand if this causes invis to drop, but if you're KOS be ready to run, just in case. Note that you cannot invis yourself once you have the trade window open, nor can you trigger any effects items with invis. You must have someone else there to cast the spell on you.

The Grey
# Dec 12 2001 at 4:36 PM Rating: Default
Since the latest patch the Grey has become a much tougher area. What levels would be best in this zone with a full group of 6?
RE: The Grey
# Dec 18 2001 at 5:13 AM Rating: Decent
They screwed up The Grey when they raised the mobs MR. It was a good zone to solo in but now you can't solo there unless you are a chanter, cause they can just tash then charm the mobs.

RE: Monk can do

What you need to do is put the items in the trade window first, then have someone invis you. Your faction will then be indifferent and should allow you to do the quest. Trading with an NPC will disengage invis (even though it may still show the buff icon, it isn't working).

# Dec 23 2001 at 12:43 AM Rating: Decent
Ok after re-reading your post again, maybe this what you tried to do (invis after handing in pieces but before hitting trade). Though this should have worked as long as the NPC doesn't see through invis.
About his loc.
# Dec 11 2001 at 3:39 AM Rating: Default
The NPC cam find in a building near Tenebroud Mt.
It's inside of a garden. After get inside the building, make a right, and hes inside one of the room there. I hand him the Organs, but I guess my factions was too low, he freaking ate all my items..... SoB

I was able to complete the quest as a human monk with indifferent faction. (not sneaking, just raw indiff)

This item is Perma EB and NO DROP...FYI
Info
# Dec 10 2001 at 7:45 PM Rating: Decent
Killed for hours.

Organs drop every 12-18 snakes, sometimes less.

All the snakes are lvl 44 or so.

The scale they drop does nothing but sell for about 12 plat, at least nothing else we have found yet.

We consistently killed golems and snakes with no problems in groups that ranged from lvl 49-57 down to a small group of one lvl 50 monk, one lvl 52 shammy and myself (lvl 57 rogue) and we still had no problem with these snakes and golems.

Pulls are easy, adds are easily rooted or feared if you have no chanter.

All in all a fun but semi easy zone.

The item is well worth the time invested.

Does anybody remember the apox location of Drenic Garrison? I am familiar with the zone if you can descibe where he/she is. A good landmark would be the bank.
Thank you in advance

Drenic is in the Cathedral, in one of halls either off the main hall or upstairs.
LVL RANGE
# Dec 08 2001 at 9:28 AM Rating: Default
With a group of 6 lvl 55+s we were able to mass pull and slaughter the various mutants in The Grey. Golems are immune to mez, so keep fetter handy in addition to mez spells. About one out of 10 snakes drops an organ. a party of 45+ could kill in the Grey, but I doubt near the temple as some of the named that spawn there are lvl 55 and would own you.

So much for the mass pulling and AOE killing. It has been nerfed :(

the snakemen are called shissar stalkers and can be found in "the grey". they look like giant cobras but with a humanoid body where the face would be.

they are blue to me at 60, so they're in the 40s.
i've killed about 15 and gotten 1 of the organs (whih is no drop) and i also got "polished serpant scale" that is magic.

this zone is pretty rough...everything is blue or light blue to me. lots of undead and some yuck caster wurms.
Guess
# Dec 04 2001 at 11:58 PM Rating: Default
Might give clicky Enduring Breath or something to travel in airless zones? Just a guess
RE: Guess
# Dec 28 2001 at 11:20 AM Rating: Default
The effect is permanent. As long as you are wearing the item you will have EB. No clicks required.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 04 2001 at 9:00 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) hmmm, there sure is a lot of twilight armor available, do you suppose one would need that armor just to be able to breath in this area? Just a thought.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 04 2001 at 6:36 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Looking at the relative levels of the snakemen from various guild sites this is probably a mid-level quest. Would venture minimum level to be 25 to 30ish depending on how accurate my information is at this point.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 22 2001 at 11:40 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) 25 to 30 huh? lay of the crack
